We open this episode with a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. The devasting news of his death came just last week, revealing that he lost his four year long battle with bowel cancer. Chadwick brought so much to the world, especially the Black community, and will live on in our memories and on our big screens. Chadwick is one of the most inspirational men we've ever seen (and no, we're not talking about cancer - get your inspiration porn elsewhere, kthanks). His tenacity, character, and genuine love and desire to support others has been a guiding light and should remain a model for others to strive to. Rest in Power, King. Next, we absolutely berate an article entitled: 25 Online Games That Women Enjoy. Insert major eye roll here. Thanks to E3 for retweeting this devastingly SHIT article that perpetuates negative stereotypes of female gamers. Yes, the tweet has since been deleted. Yes, E3 has issued an apology. And yes, the article is been gone and now redirects to a different listicle. BUT STILL. Like, y'all. What? Let's get better, E3, kthanks. Oh - and if you're going to write an article like this... let's actually talk to some female gamers, okay!? But some good video game news came out for all us Warcraft Nerds! We have an official release date for the next expansion, Shadowlands. It drops October 26th/27th worldwide. Amanda gives us the perfect update and all the information YOU need to know about this expansion. You remember our favourite underrepresented Star Wars heroine, Kelly Marie Tran, and how she was totally undervalued and not given NEARLY enjoy screentime in The Last Jedi. WELL. Disney might be making up for lost time by casting Kelly in an upcoming Disney cartoon: Raya and the Last Dragon. This film looks cute as shit and we can't wait to see her bring this badass babe come to life! Finally. You heard us mention this the other day, but the first trailer for Enola Holmes has dropped and we LOST. OUR. SHIT. 126: Peter Cetera: American singer, songwriter, bassist, and an original member of the superstar rock group Chicago who has found his summit from his humble beginnings in the south side of Chicago to an award-winning career, including 17 albums with Chicago and 8 solo albums.  Peter Cetera  Did you know that Peter Cetera also had the desire to be an athlete? But what was it that pushed this shining star to follow the guiding light of a magical music career? “I think when people ask me about singing, to me it was the emotion I think is the thing I gave, that I tried to give to everything I sang. Emotion. Feeling. I may not be the best scat singer or whatever. But, I try to sing from the heart, from the feeling. And I think that comes through to a lot of people.”    On this episode of Finding Your Summit Podcast, we talk with Peter Cetera, American singer, songwriter, bassist, an original member of the legendary rock group Chicago. What was it like for Peter Cetera during the early years of performing? “I was a reluctant performer let’s just say. You know, I never walked on stage with that, ‘I’m going to slay ‘em.’ I always walked on stage with, ‘Oh my God. I can’t breathe.’ Really. Seriously. And it is just like sports. It takes you a couple of plays to get into the game.”    What You Will Learn:   Peter Cetera started his band in high school, never went to college, and never turned back from music. But what sparked that occupational inspiration? “These two older guys, older maybe 19 or 20, took me to this teenaged rock ‘n roll club. It looked like a real thing, except no booze. This group comes on, The Rebel Rockets, from Mattoon, Illinois, and both guitar players stood on top of the amps. The lead singer wore sunglasses. And it was about the coolest thing I ever seen or heard. And that right there, I just went, ‘I want to do that.’”    What was the music grind like for Peter Cetera, making the transition from Chicago to Los Angeles, where Chicago went on to play hundreds and hundreds of shows in night clubs and colleges? “It took a little while. But we all drove out from Chicago. I drove out in my ‘67 Volkswagen, pulling a trailer, and we all went on to L.A. We lived in the same house. Eight guys in a house, seven of us and a road manager. We just started working clubs.”   Peter Cetera shares the electric excitement of opening up for Jimi Hendrix? “There is a knock on the door and it’s our road manager and he walks in and his eyes are bulging and he goes, ‘Jimi Hendrix wants to come see you guys.’ So, Hendrix walks in the room and the door opens, and there he is with that black kind of flat brimmed hat and all the accoutrements...he walks in and goes, ‘You cats are mother f**kers.’ Just like that. I was like, ‘Whoa!’ So he came in and he sat and talked with us the whole set and he goes, ‘God, you guys are so good.’ And sure enough, shortly after that his manager got a hold of us and says, ‘He wants to take you as his opening act.’ What? Let’s go!”   Peter Cetera talks about the process of contributing music to major movies, such as “Glory of Love” for The Karate Kid II that was originally written for Rocky IV. “In the case of that one, they sent me a tape. Not of the whole movie. Just a VHS tape and the script and I sat there and watched it for a couple things and, ‘Let’s see, fighting. Hmm.’ You know? And I had this chord track and I started singing and, ‘We did it all...hmmm...oh...the glory of love. Hey, wait a minute, what if it is like knights in shining armor.’ I just came along that thing...I finished it and I thought, It’s the first and only song where I thought… ‘That’s a hit. It’s got to be a hit. They got to love this. We took it back and they turned it down. Stallone turned it down.”   How did Peter Cetera’s work with Chicago come to an end? “The big thing about the whole group was drinking and drugs. I mean, that was the big downfall. Let’s state that clearly. Big downfall. And we all did it. Some of us got burned out more than the others and some of us quit. That was the downfall of it. Because nobody around you ever said, ‘Hey man, could you knock off doing that blow?’ You know? Nobody ever said that.”   Partnership with David Foster   David Foster is the mega-successful record producer that Peter Cetera considers the best piano player he ever worked with. What exactly is it that Peter feels David brings to the table in the studio? “Foster, he brought positiveness. He brought musicianship. And he just went, ‘No, those songs stinks. He was magical to work with. I loved working with the guy, and we had a good string of things and then he went on to bigger and better things”   Working with Madonna   During this episode of Finding Your Summit Podcast, Peter Cetera also talks about the interest he has had in mountain climbing, as well as the many  talented singers and musicians he has collaborated with, from The Beach Boys, Chaka Khan, to even Madonna. “When everyone gets behind that mic, all of a sudden they turn into a real person. They don’t have that, ‘Look at me mother f**ker.’ No, no, no. That goes all away. They are just as nervous as I am and they get over it. What was shocking to me was, Madonna was the most fun. She was great. She pulled up in her own car. Came in. Laughed. Talk. Joke. Learned the part. Sang. In Episode 22, I asked the question, who is the Virgin Mary. I think I shocked the audience with the answer. The answer to the question is that Jesus is Mary and Mary is Jesus. What? Let's assume that Mary's virgin birth is similar to the virgin births we see in other creatures like snakes, birds, fish, and sharks? Under these circumstances, these creatures passed their DNA perfectly to their offspring (cloned). If the same approach applies to the Virgin Mary, Jesus is a clone and moreover, he may be the offspring of a long line of women who could self conceive. I believe these women are the true #HolyGrail, including Betenos Bet (Noah's mother), Sarah (Issac's mother), Anne (Virgin Mary's mother). In each of the above-mentioned cases, Gabriel showed up to women who could not conceive and told them they would produce a child (without the help of man). Here is the exciting question, if a woman self-conceives and produces a copy of herself, is she psychically linked with her clone? There have been instances where identical twins have experienced the pain of the other twin, empathetic connection. It is this type of connection that I believe makes up the basis of the "Swarm Network" -- the universal network created by God. Is this the reason why women have been excluded from leadership in the Bible? Is this the reason why the Bible does not even mention the names of the Virgin Mary's parents? Why podcasting is beginning to crack concrete and slip beneath the door. It’s your voice. Your emotions. Your interests. Your drive to push a conversation further than the typical Tweet or Facebook Live post. There’s a lot to be said about listening to a conversation that isn’t connected to facial features. I get it. I like videos just like everybody else. If we’re comparing a podcast to Facebook Live quality plays a huge role in how it’s getting to your ears. I love Suzanne Summers and totally dig how she cooks from her kitchen via Facebook Live but 80 percent of the time the acoustics are in sad shape and my eyes see more of the story while my ears have tuned out. Who better to know the podcast vibe than FOX’s Proven Innocent? Nikki M. James is Violet Price. She podcasts directly from the law firm in what’s been dubbed the Fish Bowl. Taking your business to an entirely new level of connection. With a solid mission to keeping the community up to date with situations where your voice can be heard over and over again. For businesses. Receiving a new product and sharing it with others with the same interests can lead to sales. Videos have been doing it a long time. So what makes podcasting different? You can’t watch a video driving in traffic or sitting at your desk at work. I was with Brian Lamb from C-Span the other day. Dudes been interviewing people on the network for 30 years. He spoke highly about their podcast department. We covered two incredibly important points. With one hundred thousand podcasts available now how do people find you? I thought for sure he was going to say it’s time to thin the herd. He went the opposite direction with we need two to four million podcasts. It’s giving the power back to the people. But how long will “The People” keep up the power? Somewhere along the road someone decided to introduce the idea of creating seasons. Ten to twelve shows then we’ll see you down the road. How’s that podcasting? In radio if we didn’t show up for our daily shift he was shown the door. We hate it when Netflix and Hulu do it. Why are we playing the same game as podcasters? It kills me to hear someone brag about how great their show is then follow it with “We have a new show every Thursday.” What? Let me put your show down on my Google calendar and hope to God it vibrates when your show drops.Podcasting isn’t an overnight fad. It grew from blogging and will continue to evolve into areas of huge chance taking. But it’s going to require a lot of elbow juice to keep it on a long term highway. Six years ago my coworkers thought I was insane that I was putting so much drive into developing a platform. Some saw it as a way of keeping a former drive time talent busy and not complaining while others stood by with hopes that it would move a little faster than it does. More today than any time I talk with celebs that do nothing but listen to podcasts. Comedian John Caparulo totally digs them but won’t take the leap of faith and start his own. It’s just another platform. Like bowling and riding a bicycle everybody can do it. Those that stick with it develop incredible connections with listeners as well as PR people paid to get their clients air time. You’ll never hear me say don’t do a podcast. It’s your voice. It’s your emotions. It’s your connection and can make you more popular than the popsicle man selling ice cream on a stick on a 110 degree day in Carolina. Stick with it. Don’t do 12 shows then run to another church. A life with rules equals freedom - What?? Let's live a life inductively with some rules that aren't rules but are needed, confused??? I was until I took some time to think about a sentence I heard. It all started with " you're living in the danger zone if you're living in a life without structure" and initially I shouted to myself NOOOOOOO! But then I took some time to think about firstly my reaction and then to look at this from the inside out. I enjoyed this thinking and examples came to mind that seemed to go against this then to come back to it and that was confusing. Examples such as my NLP trainings and the processes contained in them, the way I learnt and the way I was trained in hypnosis, Yoga, my gym workouts and well you fill in the blank - Yep I want and challenge you to think of things you have learnt or do that has a structure and is needed to give you freedom. Yep it gets even more confusing. I'll also share ways to be free to become the most successful you with a structure by following what successful people do and how you can incorporate and adapt them into your life What I came to was that there is something special that has to happen and is included with structure and freedom. Well, when she goes, I've got all five kids to myself, which a lot of people are like, oh my gosh, I didn't do that. Well, you know, I actually liked my kids, so it's not a big deal for me. I actually used it as an opportunity to maybe do something with them or watch a movie that maybe he's not completely kosher with the lady friend and uh, and uh, you know, we have this great man time bonding experience because it got all five boys. There's no girls in our household... So one year we watched the entire Lord of the Rings series, which was great. A lot of learning lessons like, um, like a, you know, what happens during an ORC decapitation I'm like being true to your cause and perseverance, uh, you know, there's ways to spend the violence to make it like, you know, to make it sellable when, uh, when your wife comes back in town, you know, they learned all these virtues here. Next year we watched Braveheart, which is a, you know, a step up with real live decapitations had a couple, a couple of bad dreams from the kids. And that might not have been the best decision of mine. But that is a great movie about freedom. And, uh, and I'm, I'm staying, I'm sticking to my guns on that one. But at any rate, this one particular weekend, I loaded all the kids in the car because we had to go to a soccer game and as we're driving my second oldest son, Everett, he says, dad don't feel so good. Well, I've heard that before. So I rolled down the back right window. You sitting in the back right? And I said, well, just just get, uh, get some fresh air. Maybe. Maybe you'll feel better. Michelle: 01:47 Oooo, what does that mean? But what does it mean? Brandi: 01:49 That sounds confusing? Yeah. So, um, I'm sure that all of you know that there are other, other kinds of designs. So there's not only graphic design, which is probably the most elusive of design to define, which is why we're here. But there's also an automobile design. There's fashion design, there's interior design, stage design. Um, set and costume design and like there's, there's so many different areas of design that honestly like it's like a big web but they're all related. It's like seven degrees of Kevin Bacon, but it's designed. Michelle: 02:24 Is it seven or six, it might be seven. Is it six degrees? I think it's six degrees of Kevin Bacon. So yeah, I guess the point is that redesign, graphic design is related to more things than you realize. And that's part of the, one of the goals of this show is to not only talk about graphic design and you know, answer questions about more specific things. But also to really show you guys like that you interact with design in some form. Maybe not exactly graphic design, but something related to it from literally the minute you open your eyes in the morning, really think about it. What do you do when you first wake up? Have you ever played or heard of the game bigger and better? You start with something small and keep trying to trade for something bigger and better. The bigger, the better. Bob Goff tells the story of one time his son and his son’s friends played this. They all started with something small and went out into the neighborhood. Golf’s son started out with a dime. The first house he went to he said, I’m playing bigger and better and I was wondering if I could trade you this dime for something bigger or better? The man who answered the door yelled to his wife,  Honey we are playing bigger and better! What do we have that we can trade for a dime? They had an air mattress that they were no longer using- so they swapped that… Now that’s pretty great. A large air mattress is pretty big. However, he kept going. He traded the air mattress for a ping pong table. He traded the ping pong table, and made a dozen more trades as he made his way through the neighborhood… When he came home, he drove home in an old pickup truck, that he had traded for!  Goff said, he didn’t need a truck so he gave it to a local church to give away to a person starting over… That trade was the best, because trading the dime up for bigger and better all the way to a pickup was nothing in comparison in trading the pickup for the great sense of joy and love that came from helping someone in need. In this section of Corinthians, Paul talks about money and how we can trade it for something bigger and better. God is always giving us chances to trade up and be part of something bigger and better than ourselves. Money often creates controversy, and it was causing an issue between the Corinthians and Paul. But it’s not what you would expect. It was creating a problem, not because Paul was requesting funds but because he was refusing them. What? Let’s read this passage and figure out what’s going on. Read 1 Corinthians 9:1-14 Intro: Paul hadn’t needed funds from the Corinthians. He had a means of support that he had worked out through tent making with Aquila and Priscilla- and some of Paul’s critics were using this against him. They were saying that he wasn’t the real deal- that he wasn’t even a full time minister- that he couldn’t be a real apostle if he wasn’t doing this full time. Paul responds defending his apostleship and saying that he did deserve to receive material goods, but that he had forsaken that right because he found he could go farther, faster without relying on the financial support of the church and God had given him an alternative means of income in making tents. Paul’s point is that he not any less of an apostle because of this, he has simply chosen to fund his own ministry efforts. Currently in the FWB partnership of churches we have 2 churches that are on the rebound. They were very near the brink of closing. They had large amounts of debt and had lost just about all of their people. In both instances the pastor who came there had been uniquely gifted in that they had great skills for and opportunities in the secular workplace. James Lindsey in Ft Wayne runs a furniture factory. Travis Penn is a an IT guy and run the IT department for the school corporation in North Indy. Both of these men are not less than pastors. We do not look at them any differently except that we admire their willingness to pastor these churches and work regular work weeks at the other job. Because of their skill set and unique calling, the church is able to afford to move forward. Paul’s response to his critics is strange because he starts by saying I deserve to be paid, even though I’m not. Paul was defending his authority as an apostle, but he wasn’t trying to establish a precedent that all church leaders should find other employment. So he builds the case for his apostleship and the support of church leaders. So the first point here in chapter 9 is Material goods should be supplied to church leaders. 4Have we not power (the right) to eat and to drink? 7Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? 9For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? 10Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. 13Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. Verse 9 is a quote of Deuteronomy 25:4 Refers to the practice of an ox dragging a sledge over grain separating the kernels from the stalk. They were not to muzzle the ox so that he could reap benefits from the grain he was treading. Then Paul asks, is God concerned for the ox? Paul is saying, If God is concerned about the ox, I’m sure he’s concerned about people- about the leaders of the church. Paul is saying, if God wants to make sure that the ox who helps harvest the grain gets a share of the fruits of his labor, surely your spiritual leaders and pastors should receive a share in the harvest- the fruits of his labors. In this passage Paul highlights that fact that every church leader is different, every scenario is different. Paul mentions that some of the apostles had wives that they were bringing along with them in ministry. Obviously Peter’s responsibilities were different than Paul’s. Paul had argued that though he didn’t marry, that was well within the rights of a believer. Paul is now arguing that though he doesn’t receive financial support from the church, that is well within the rights of the church leader. The next two points are what I want to get to… Material goods pale in comparison to Spiritual Benefits. 11If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? 12aIf others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? In verse 11, Paul uses yet another rhetorical question- if we sow unto you spiritual things, is it a big deal that we reap or harvest carnal or material things? In other words, Paul is saying the seeds that we have planted in your lives are producing peace, joy, love, restoration, and purpose. All of these are much greater than what we ask for to support our families and take care of ourselves. Now Paul isn’t calling this a trade. You don’t get the spiritual help because you give financial support. You don’t have to give an offering to receive spiritual benefit. If you call me for counseling and help, I will not discuss payment plans with you first. When you come to the altar, your benefit is not contingent upon the offering. So it isn’t a trade, however, Paul is saying that if we compare what we receive with what we are asked to give, the deal is a pretty good one. However, many people fail to see it this way. For many, because the spiritual benefits are intangible- they can’t bring themselves to give their money which could purchase them tangible things- something that they can hold, or sit on, or ride in, or watch. None of the tangible stuff you have purchased in this life comes close to the value that is in the intangible goods you receive through God’s grace.  We struggle with this. We struggle to give and make an investment in the kingdom of God because we can’t see what we are purchasing. “Faith isn’t a formula or a business deal. In Short there’s nothing on the other side of the equal sign, just Jesus.” - Bob Goff We’ve traded our broken lives for something bigger and better. If we’ve trusted Jesus with our lives and received something far greater- why don’t we trust him to trade our material goods for something bigger and better? My phone is broken. It’s messed up. I can see messages and calls and sometimes I can answer them, but often I can’t. I went to the store to see about getting it fixed. They said, well you’ve got 4 months left on your contract so we’ll let you upgrade, but you have to trade in your phone and since it’s broken, we don’t want it. Well, if it wasn’t broken I wouldn’t need to trade it in… but because it’s broken I do need to trade it in but can’t. When we come to the Lord with our broken and shattered lives, he doesn’t say, “uh, well, I was actually looking to take an exchange on a moderately used life, not a broken one….” When we come to the Lord with our broken and shattered lives, he accepts us, no questions asked. If the Lord is willing to take your broken life- what sense does it make to not trust him with your money? If you are willing to trust God with your very life, why not trust him with your stuff?  Why not trust him with your funds? “You know your trusting God when you trust Him with your money.” - Nieuwhoff. You say, well I’m poor. I hardly have any money. That’s what’s great about the Lord- you don’t have to give a certain amount to qualify- you don’t have to reach some tier of giving- you just need to give.  The Lord calls us to give 10% as a tithe. For some of you, 10% isn’t very much, but it’s still obedience. For some of you, 10% is quite a bit but that means your 90% is still quite a bit. Though our income levels vary, we can all be obedient. Got a small paycheck, you can still be obedient. In fact, Jesus made it clear that the woman who had less to give exercised great faith because she gave out of need, not out of abundance. Though our gifts differ, we can all be part of something bigger and better than us. Then notice what verse 12 says, if others are partakers with you, are not we also? Paul is referring to other church leaders and teachers who had come through that the Corinthians had supported. Paul said, if they are worthy of your support, aren’t we? We established your church and introduced you to the gospel and now we are doing the same thing in another city, doesn’t that qualify as worthy of support? Now think about this in 2 ways. You pay people all of the time. You pay people to work on your car, you pay for tires, you pay for gas, you pay for cable and internet, you pay for fast food, you pay someone to cut your hair, you pay for everything. Paul says, if you are willing to pay for all of these things, shouldn’t you be willing to pay to support the people who lead you in a relationship with Jesus? If the Spiritual is more valuable than the material, why would we only pay to support those that provide the material?? Paul and Silas had established the church in Corinth and were now doing the same thing in another city that didn’t have a church. They were working so that another group of people could experience what they had experienced of the forgiveness and redemption of the Jesus. Our church exists because Free Will Baptists sent funds and offerings to support Bob Helms as he established a new church. We are here because God worked through the generosity of other churches to make this possible. There are missionaries who are doing the same thing right now, they are taking the gospel into cities where it is not represented. They are establishing new churches in places like Eerie, PA, and Irvine, CA and Tokyo, Japan, and India. They deserve our financial support. Last week at the NAFWB we ended the week with the missions service as we do each year. All missionaries who are able to be present come to the stage and are recognized, new missionaries are prayed for and commissioned. It’s very moving. Then this week I read of a missionary couple to Tokyo who are resigning and coming home in September because their funds have dwindled. Material goods are not a motivating factor for noble church leaders. 12bNevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. 15But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. 16For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! 17For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. 18What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. Paul only used money to reach the next opportunity to preach the gospel. We are not in this for the money,  we are in this to preach the gospel. verse 12 says we suffer all things lest we should hinder the gospel… 16 - I do this out of necessity. - Woe is me is I don’t preach the gospel. Paul was saying, give or don’t give, I’m still going to preach the gospel. Paul says, I’m compelled, I’m called! I must preach the gospel. I do not lead the church because I want the pay- I lead the church because I love the gospel and I must proclaim it! You will not be consumed with money if you are compelled by the gospel. Paul said, I’ll walk away from money to preach the gospel. Paul had traded money and stuff for something bigger and better, the gospel. Some of you, you love money. You cling to it. It consumes you. You are always angling to get more, make more, some of you- money consumes you because you spend it so fast on all the stuff that you want and all the stuff you so desperately want… Let me invite you to trade it for something bigger and better.

I don’t know how many times I have either read or heard this chapter. Hundreds of times, I’m sure. And you know how you can hear something, and understand the words just fine, but not really understand? Well as I looked again at this chapter, specifically verses 14-17, all of a sudden I said to myself, “Wait. What?” Let me read it to you again: 14Then John’s disciples came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?” 15Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. 16No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made. 17Neither do people put new wine into old wine skins, or else the skins would burst, and the wine be spilled, and the skins ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wine skins, and both are preserved.” Ok, I got the part about John the Baptist’s disciples asking why Jesus’ disciples didn’t fast, and Jesus’ answer that the friends of the bridegroom don’t mourn while he is with them. But what in the world do new patches on old fabric, and new wine in old wineskins have to do with any of this? And why have I never noticed this before? Well, the last answer is easy. Sometimes I tend to be dense. :) Ok. Here’s what is going on here. John’s disciples had been with John for some time. And it was appropriate for them to fast and even mourn because John was at that time in a Roman prison. And did you notice that when John’s disciples asked the question, they also included the Pharisees in the “we fast” group? The Pharisees fasted because they liked to show how religious they were. They made a show of it. Side note: Jesus had instructed His disciples that when they did fast, they were to do so in secret, so as not to make a show out of it. He didn’t want them to try to look religious like the scribes and the Pharisees did. Ok. Back to my main point. Jesus’ disciples were still new. They didn’t have the benefit of much training yet, and they had not yet had much experience that would strengthen their spiritual muscles. So asking them to fast more than the regularly observed Jewish fasts was more than they were yet prepared for. It would be like putting a new patch on old fabric or new wine into old wineskins. It would cause them damage. Jesus challenges us when we are ready. He does challenge us, but not to the point of destroying us. Sometimes we are right on the brink, but never over, if we hold fast to Him. Your thoughts?

So today I will talk about the basic difference between whatever and whichever and give you examples of how to use both. I'm not gonna cover all the ways you can use one or the other; rather I'll focus, like I said, on the most basic way to use them. Whatever language you choose, it's important to listen to it. Do you remember the difference between WHICH and WHAT? Let's recap: which is the better option when you're referring to a limited set of options that is known to the people having a conversation. If you ask someone "What's your favourite movie?", you're asking that person to choose from an almost infinite number of possibilities - like, every movie known to man. Now, if you show three DVDs to that person, you could say "What's your favourite?" but "Which one is your favourite? " is better here. Why? Because you're asking them to choose from the three options you presented before you asked the question. So the examples I'm going to show you using whatever and whichever follow the same rule, so to speak. So if someone tells you "Whatever language you decide to learn, it is important to listen to it." Out of all the languages of the world, whatever language you choose, it's important to listen to it. If someone says "You can buy whatever you like in the supermarket. It's on me" they're giving you complete freedom - they will pay for any products you choose to buy without restriction. If your teacher tells you "whatever degree you'd like to pursue, I can help you" that means that you could choose any degree in the world and they will be able to help you. Now, if the same teacher says "In order to have my guidance you have to pick Geography, History or Social Sciences. So whichever one you choose, I will be able to assist you"... That teacher laid out three options for you - here, you have limited choice. If you go with one of these three options, they will be able to help you - whichever one you choose. If that other person said, "You will find five kinds of yoghurt at that supermarket. Whichever one you buy is fine" - again, you will find only five options. And finally, you might be telling that first person that you're thinking about learning an Asian language - like Japanese or Korean. So that person might tell you "Whichever one you choose (out of the limited set of Asian languages) will be a great addition to your education."
