Today's guest is Kathy Sierra. Kathy Sierra is a computer scientist, author, and horse-movement innovator who bridges neuroscience, learning psychology, and equine training. Co-creator of the award-winning Head First programming series and founder of the JavaRanch community, she later turned her expertise in intrinsic motivation toward her lifelong passion for horses. Through her Panther Flow approach, Kathy helps horses and riders unlock confident, curious, and expressive movement, sharing her work worldwide through courses, workshops, and writing. In training and movement, drilling “perfect form” is standard practice. The more we get into how humans learn, the more we realize that “perfect form” is a myth, and learning is a far more complex venture. Using both differential learning (variety) and constraints helps athletes hone in on their own optimal (and robust) technique, without needing to constantly be looking for one “perfect” way to do things. This is not only true in animals, but also in humans and in machine learning. On this week's episode, Kathy covers aspects of training horses using the same motor learning concepts that work best in humans. She also goes into how and why robots learn to move better based on constraints, trial and error, versus a “perfect technique” type of programming. This is a fascinating and wide-ranging discussion on human movement, learning, and sport skill. Today's episode is brought to you by Hammer Strength. What to try: Start with establishing safety and trust before layering complexity. Use observation as your first tool, notice subtle shifts in posture or energy. Match your cues to the learner's readiness, not your agenda. Discovering the Community of Movement – [11:16] She describes how connecting with other movement-minded people broadened her perspective and expanded her toolkit. What to try: Seek out cross-disciplinary conversations, dancers, martial artists, animal trainers. Share drills and games openly; let others adapt them for their setting. Use community feedback as a way to refine your own approach. The Power of Natural Movement – [21:40] Kathy emphasizes that natural, unforced movement often produces the most authentic and sustainable skill. What to try: Design environments that invite natural movement patterns to emerge. Remove overbearing cues, let the body self-organize. Watch for efficiency and ease, not just output. Emotions in Movement and Skill Acquisition – [32:19] She links emotional state to physical learning, noting that fear or tension can block skill development. What to try: Pair challenging tasks with positive emotional experiences. Recognize emotional cues, frustration, joy, hesitation, and adjust tasks accordingly. Celebrate small wins to keep confidence high. The Impact of Coaching on Authenticity – [41:22] Kathy warns that over-coaching can erode authenticity in movement. What to try: Avoid shaping every rep, allow athletes to bring their own style. Use fewer,

How can architecture firms move beyond the traditional consultant model to foster truly deep, interdisciplinary collaboration? This week, we welcome Ximena Valle, founder of the Philadelphia-based architecture firm FIFTEEN, and one of her longtime collaborators, Mikael Avery. Ximena founded FIFTEEN to address the gaps she observed in the profession, from talent leaving the industry to a disconnect between designers and end-users. Inspired by her experience on a multi-disciplinary archaeological dig where geologists, mythologists, and chemists worked together to solve a complex problem, she built her firm around a "Collaborator Network."This intentional shift in language, from "consultant" to "collaborator", reflects a profound difference in process. Mikael Avery, whose background spans architecture, landscape architecture, and occupational therapy, is a prime example of the unique expertise FIFTEEN brings to the table. Collaborators are not just brought in for a "nugget of information"; they are integrated into the team from the earliest visioning sessions, contributing to a holistic process where the solution emerges from the group dynamic.Ximena and Mikael share how this model has transformed projects, turning a public space design into a community incubator for startups and workforce development, and evolving a healthcare facility presentation into a fully experiential workshop co-designed with the client. They also discuss the practical challenges of this approach, from creating new financial models to educating clients on the value of a truly integrated team. “The more voices we can get in the room that will misinterpret what we say, if you will, the more opportunities we have to have these ideas bubble up. That is the most exciting part about design… when it doesn't come from one person, but it comes from the conversation around something. And then all of a sudden, wait, that's actually the answer right there. It didn't come from me. It didn't come from you. It came from the process.” - Mikael AveryThis episode concludes with a reminder that meaningful innovation in architecture doesn't come from sticking to traditional roles, it comes from rethinking the process entirely. Ximena and Mikael leave us with a clear call to action: open the door, invite in new voices, and trust the collaborative process. Whether you're leading a firm or just starting out, the future of design lies in embracing complexity together.Guests:Ximena Valle is the founder of Fifteen, a Philadelphia-based architecture firm that is redefining collaboration in practice. She founded the firm to address what she saw as critical gaps in the profession, building a new practice model centered on integrating diverse, interdisciplinary expertise into the core design process.Mikael Avery is a designer, educator, and healthcare professional working at the intersection of architecture, product design, and health. He is a longtime collaborator with Fifteen, and also teaches at the University of Pennsylvania and brings a human-centered perspective to projects ranging from healthcare environments to medical device design. Is This Episode for You?This episode is for you if:✅ You are interested in new, more inclusive models of collaboration in architecture.✅ You are a firm leader looking for ways to integrate expertise from outside the traditional AEC industry.✅ You want to learn how to better advocate for the value of a truly interdisciplinary design process with clients.✅ You are a professional with a non-traditional background who wants to engage with architectural projects in a meaningful way.✅ You want practical advice on how to foster a culture where the best ideas can come from anyone in the room. What have you done to take action lately? In this episode, we unpack the marketing insights behind it with special guest Derek Weeks, Chief Marketing Officer at Katalon.Together, we explore what B2B marketers can learn from building real connections, inviting community participation, and letting go of perfection to create content people genuinely trust and engage with.About our guest, Derek WeeksDerek Weeks is the Chief Marketing Officer at Katalon. He is a driven, results-oriented CMO with a proven ability to achieve multiple successful exits, build and execute bold go-to-market strategies for each stage of business growth, and demonstrate solid returns on marketing investments. Accomplished at building high-performing teams, driving quality marketing-sourced pipeline, developing massive communities, and collaborating with sales teams to meet business targets. What B2B Companies Can Learn From the Armchair Expert Podcast:Vulnerability builds trust and attention. Derek Weeks emphasizes that Armchair Expert's standout quality is its authentic vulnerability, which creates a powerful emotional connection with listeners. He explains, “It's really about being human… It builds an emotional connection with your brand.” Derek draws a parallel to B2B marketing, highlighting that it's crucial to showcase real people behind the brand to forge trust.Mix long-form and short-form content strategically. Armchair Expert masterfully balances 90-minute conversations with short, snackable segments like Armchair Anonymous. Derek believes this dual-format approach is essential for B2B marketing: “That kind of mix of long and short is something that you have to play into as a marketer and realize your audience expects different things at different times.” He stresses that marketers must go deep when it matters, but also repurpose content aggressively to cater to varied audience behaviors, especially across platforms like TikTok.Empower community-generated content. Derek praises Armchair Expert for its use of community-driven content through Armchair Anonymous, where listeners share personal stories weekly. He says, “They really don't have to spend time creating content at all… believe in your community and the value that they create.” B2B marketers should harness their user-generated content to scale content creation far beyond the limits of a marketing budget.Quotes“ You have to think about what draws people to the next.  What did you do in that moment that got people to say, ‘This is worth following or paying attention to or coming back again?'  Figure out what's going to make people come back, not what makes people appear the first time.  The first time is kind of an easy win. The second time, or third time, or 10th time is the hard part.”Time Stamps[00:55]  Meet Derek Weeks, CMO at Katalon[01:23]  Why Armchair Expert?[03:01] Vulnerability and Trust in B2B[08:58]  Don't Build Campaigns, Build Conversations[13:37] The Long-Form to Short-Form Pipeline[19:05] Unfair Mindshare[21:47] What Armchair Expert Gets Right[24:01] Practical Ways to Bring Personality into B2B[27:38] Final Thoughts & TakeawaysLinksConnect with Derek on LinkedInLearn more about KatalonAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. What is the power of providing unique experiences?Today, Dan chats with the Co-Founders of Reset Hotels, Ben Uyeda and Adam Wininger, about their unique hotel venture designed for the next generation of conscious travelers. Ben and Adam share insights from their journey in hospitality, emphasizing the importance of midweek group bookings for corporate and wellness retreats, and creating meaningful, immersive experiences in the vast, open spaces of Joshua Tree. The conversation explores the concept of 'reset' in hospitality, the value of modular construction in remote areas, and future visions including art installations, unique retreats, and potentially an interplanetary hotel. Join the conversation as they discuss how thoughtful design and unique experiences can transform simple stays into unforgettable journeys.Takeaways:Excellence in hospitality (and any field) comes from attention to detail and continuous improvement—strive to perfect the small things, not just the big vision.Make sure you're intentional about the guest experience. Always consider how you want people to feel during and after their experience with you, whether in hospitality, business, or daily life.Prioritize midweek group and retreat bookings. They are a key driver of business success.Be willing to evolve your ideas and operations as you learn from real-world experience. The best concepts often emerge from adapting to changing circumstances.Move beyond generic spaces—offer unique, authentic moments (like outdoor activities, art installations, or surprise elements) that guests will remember and share.Design experiences that encourage genuine interaction, such as group hikes, yoga at sunset, or shared reading materials.Make it easy to deliver “magical” experiences by building thoughtful, repeatable systems (e.g., providing thank you cards and mailing them for guests).Quote of the Show: ”I've always thought of hospitality as the craft of the welcome.” - Ben Uyeda“ We fully intend to do all that. Much of Angela Washko's work begins with a simple question: What if we took the media we consume every day — the video games, the reality shows, the online chatrooms — as seriously as we take traditional art spaces? What if we examined them not just as distractions or products but as public arenas where identity, power and belonging are actively negotiated? With a practice that spans performance, social engagement, video games and film, Angela has spent more than a decade doing just that. Her work doesn't just critique digital culture from the outside; it embeds itself within it, creating space for dialogue in places not usually known for nuance. Whether she's convening feminist councils in the fantasy worlds of online gaming or crafting interactive experiences from the textures of real life, her projects ask how we behave when no one — or everyone — is watching. In 2012 she launched The Council on Gender Sensitivity and Behavioral Awareness in World of Warcraft, an in-game social practice project that sparked multi-hour dialogues between initially hostile players. Later she created The Game: The Game, an RPG in which a player could try to negotiate a bar packed full of male pickup artists following the same seduction playbook. And just last year, fascinated by the allure and promises of reality television, she directed her first documentary, “Workhorse Queen,” about a few members of the tightknit drag community in Rochester, NY and their complicated relationship with “RuPaul's Drag Race” and the commerce of 21st century drag celebrity. In this interview, Angela, now a full professor and the MFA Program Director at the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan, reflects on how she found her voice as an artist inside a male-dominated gaming culture, why she continues to work in and not against the media she critiques and how becoming a mother during a global crisis reshaped her ideas of creativity, care and time.https://angelawashko.com/home.html

Send us a textI have a thing for Kickstarter. I find myself backing a lot of roleplaying games so it's not unusual for me to browsing the new Kickstarters looking for something that might spark my imagination. And that's when I saw it. Singularity.A brand-new massive adventure for Mongoose Traveller.Longtime listeners know our love of Traveller on this show and you might have even listened to our three part “Anatomy of a Campaign” series where we talked you through our Pirates of Drinax campaign. The idea of another massive campaign intrigued me and the more I read through the description the more I was hooked.I backed it.I then brought it to the podcast. Mike, Christina and I talked briefly about Singularity in S3E11 on You Heard it Here Last, but that didn't quite scratch the itch enough. So I reached out to Mongoose Publishing and spoke to Mathew Sprange the Managing Director who put me in touch with the author of Singularity Chris Griffen.Chris was nice enough to take the time to sit down and talk with me about this new campaign setting.

Our health journey actually starts with brushing our teeth because the bacteria and the toxins from the mouth can spread to the rest of the body." — Dr. Kenny Brown "The tongue is a shag carpet. It is not a smooth table. It has crevices where all the food that we eat, the snot, the drainage, and the bacteria can tuck in, which creates the white layer on top of the tongue, and can become the source of bad breath. So cleaning the tongue on a routine basis is absolutely necessary." — Dr. Kenny Brown "Veneers alter the microbiome of the mouth. It's more man made material that's going in your mouth. And it will never get clean the same way that you can clean your natural teeth. The edges of veneers is where cavities start to creep in so you actually need to take better care of them." — Dr. Kenny Brown Josh's Trusted Products | Up To 40% Off Shop All Products Biohacking Korrect Life - 15% OFF WITH CODE "JOSH15" MANNA Vitality - Save 20% with code JOSH20 HigherDOSE - 15% off with the code WELLNESSANDWISDOM PLUNGE - $150 off with discount code WELLNESSFORCE SaunaSpace - 10% off with discount code JOSH10 Ultrahuman Ring Air - 10% off with code JOSH Wellness Test Kits Tiny Health Gut Tests - $20 off with discount code JOSH20 VIVOO Health Tests - Save 30% off with code JOSH SiPhox Health Blood Test - Save 15% off with code JOSH Nutrition + Gut Health Organifi - 20% off with discount code WELLNESSFORCE Paleovalley - 15% off with the link only EQUIP Foods - 20% off with the code WELLNESS20 DRY FARM WINES - Get an extra bottle of Pure Natural Wine with your order for just 1¢ Just Thrive - 20% off with the code JOSH Kreatures of Habit - Save 20% with WISDOM20 Supplements MANNA GOLD - $20 off with the code JOSHGOLD Adapt Naturals - 20% off with discount code WELLNESSFORCE MitoZen - 10% off with the code WELLNESSFORCE Activation Products - 20% off with the code JOSH20 BiOptimizers - 10% off with discount code JOSH10 Fatty15 Essential Fatty Acids Supplement - Get 15% off with code JOSH15 Sleep BiOptimizers Sleep Breakthrough - 10% off with JOSH10 Zyppah Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece - 20% off with the code JOSH MitoZen Super SandMan Ultra™ (Melatonin Liposomal)+ | 10% off with WELLNESSFORCE Luminette Light Therapy Glasses - 15% off with JOSH Cured Nutrition CBN Night Oil - 20% off with JOSH Natural Energy MTE - Save 20% with JOSH TruKava - Save 20% with code JOSH20 Drink Update - Save 25% with discount code JOSH25 EONS Mushroom Coffee - 20% off with the discount code JOSH20 EnergyBITS - 20% off with the code WELLNESSFORCE BUBS Naturals - Save 20% with JOSH20 Fitness + Physical Health Detox Dudes Online Courses - Up to $500 off with discount code JOSH Kineon - 10% off with discount code JOSH10 Create Wellness Creatine Gummies - 20% off with discount code JOSH BioPro+ by BioProtein Technology - Save $30 OFF WITH CODE JOSH Drink LMNT - Zero Sugar Hydration: Get your free LMNT Sample Pack, with any purchase Healthy Home SunHome Saunas - Save $200 with JOSH200 JASPR Air Purifier - Save 10% with code WELLNESS Zyppah Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece - 20% off with the code JOSH Holy Hydrogen - $100 off with discount code JOSH SimplyO3 - 10% off with discount code JOSH10 LEELA Quantum Upgrade + Frequency Bundles - Get 15 days free with code JOSH15 TrulyFree Toxic- Free Cleaning Products - Get 40% off + Freebies with code WELLNESSFORCE Mental Health + Stress Release Mendi.io - 20% off with the code JOSH20 NOOTOPIA - 10% off with the discount code JOSH10 CalmiGo - $30 off the device with discount code JOSH30 QUALIA - 15% off with WELLNESSFORCE Personal Care The Wellness Company's Emergency Health Kits + More - Save 10% with code JOSH Farrow Life - Save 20% with JOSH Timeline Nutrition - 10% off with JOSH Intelligence of Nature - 15% off Skin Support with the code JOSH15 Young Goose - Save 10% with code JOSH10 Mindfulness + Meditation BREATHE - 33% off with the code PODCAST33 Neuvana - 15% off with the code WELLNESSFORCE Essential Oil Wizardry - 10% off with the code WELLNESSFORCE Four Visions - Save 15% with code JOSH15 Lotuswei - 10% off with JOSH Clothing Rhizal Grounded Barefoot Shoes - Save 10% with code WELLNESS Earth Runners Shoes - 10% off with the code JOSHT10 Free Resources M21 Wellness Guide - Free 3-Week Breathwork Program with Josh Trent Join The Liberated Life Tribe About Dr. Kenny Brown Dr. Kenny Brown is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who has operated on everything from a loose baby tooth to a skull reconstruction following a bear attack. We dive into their journey as designers, explore the impact of AI on the creative industry, and discuss why community and branding matter so much during times of economic uncertainty. Our conversation highlights the need for genuine human connection and the enduring value of creativity in navigating challenges.   Also mentioned in today's episode:   02:52 Meet the Designers: Reggie Tidwell and Tim Scroggs 08:38 Creating Enduring Value in Design 11:58 Navigating Client Relationships and Brand Strategy 14:49 Building Confidence as a Designer 17:35 Embracing the Unknown in Creativity 23:55 AI and the Future of Design 29:56 Community and Connection in the Design World 32:36 The Impact of AI on Creativity and Humanity 41:19 The Importance of Intuition and Human Connection   Takeaways The design industry is evolving with the introduction of AI, but human creativity remains irreplaceable. Branding is essential for businesses, especially during economic uncertainty. Transitioning from a beginner to an expert designer involves gaining confidence and experience. AI should be viewed as a tool to enhance creativity, not a replacement for it. Isolation is a significant challenge for creatives, and community support is vital. Understanding client needs is crucial for effective branding and marketing strategies. Creativity thrives in environments that value human connection and collaboration. The future of design will require a blend of technology and human intuition.   If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review and share it!
