In this episode, I dive into a very personal and enlightening conversation with Sara Doell, recent bestselling author of Next Time Leave Me on the Floor: My Journey from Drunk AF to Sober AF. Being tired of waking up with hangovers, regret, shame and fuzzy memories of being mean to her wife, she decided to give up alcohol for one year and see what would happen. At the time, it felt like an insurmountable feat yet she woke up on January 1st, 2022 and committed to 365 days of not drinking alcohol. It took a few short months for her to walk away from that goal. Instead she decided to change her path and remove alcohol from her life for good. In her book, Sara reflects on how alcohol became her kryptonite, why she decided to quit drinking and then travels a winding road through her first two years of sobriety. And in this episode, we discuss all of that...and then some! This conversation is a thought-provoking discussion that I think you will enjoy! ------------- Sara Doell is a CLCC-certified Life Coach, Division I collegiate golf coach, lifetime member of the LPGA, and an Amazon best-selling author of Your Future Self Will Thank You. She grew up in Rochester, New York, attended Penn State University, and played on scholarship for the golf team. After stints in Charlotte, North Carolina and Brooklyn, New York, she found her way to the West Coast. She lives in San Francisco with her wife, Caitlin, and their mini dachshund, Mr. Harvey Milk. This is her second book. --------- Click this link to purchase the book on Amazon.

Hopefully this summer allows you time to rest, relax, and recuperate. But it also provides a season to grow, improve your walk with Jesus, your health, or your relationships. This week Jay provides a Summer Growth Worksheet as well as a set of reminders on what sets us up for successful transformation. Remember the following: 1. If you have too many goals, you’re more likely to fail across the board. 2. An end of summer goal should be challenging, but reasonable. 3. Your goal should consist of daily (or multiple) very doable baby steps. 4. Reward yourself every day you take your daily step. 5. Find a partner or family member to share your plan. 6. Success gives momentum for success. Modern day technology poses challenges unique to parents of our generation. From portable computers (think ipads, cell phones, laptops, etc.) to unlimited shows (think netflix, disney+, etc.) and social media, the fight for our attention abounds. Add to that the easy distraction that technology is for feisty toddlers and frustrated teenagers and you have the perfect recipe for tech-obsessed families. In today's episode, Drew provides warnings, wisdom, and words of encouragement for moms seeking to raise their kids in the digital age with eternity in mind.Drew Dyck is the author of several books including Your Future Self Will Thank You and Generation Ex-Christian. Why do we struggle so much with controlling our urges? What does it mean to have self-control? What do the Bible and those who study brain science have to say about it? Drew Dyck wrote a book exploring all of that. It's called "Your Future Self Will Thank You," and it was the In No Hurry Podcast Book of the Month. As we close out Lent season, it felt like the perfect book to read. This conversation is a recording of my Instagram Live chat with Drew. For all Book of the Month interviews with the author, be sure to join us live on Instagram when we do them toward the end of each month. You can find out about them by following me on Instagram @coleclaybourn. I really enjoyed talking with Drew about this book, and I think you'll enjoy his wisdom and humor in this conversation. Be sure to give him a follow on Twitter @drewdyck and on Instagram @drewndyck. Also check out his website — drewdyck.com. PROGRAMMING NOTE: As mentioned on the show, this will be the last episode for Season 2. I'm going to take a pause until later on in the summer as I take some time to focus on my writing. With that, I'm so thrilled to announce that I was accepted to participate in Lysa TerKeurst's Book Proposal Bootcamp — an exciting and rare opportunity for me in my journey of writing a book! You'll hear me talk plenty about the program in the intro, and a major part of that is the cost. I have set up a GoFundMe to help fund my spot in this program, and I am prayerfully asking that you will consider supporting me — both financially and through prayer! In Paul's list of the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5 one fruit is clearly overlooked compared to the others: self-control. Though looking through the self-help section of the book store shows how in vogue focus on self-control is, godly self-control has little to do with the self-advancement of a self-help book or it wouldn't be a Fruit of the Spirit of God. Recently Drew Dyck endeavored to make self-control a bigger part of his life. This involved research into how self-control works in our brains, and what self-control means in the Bible. In the process Drew wrote a book I found to be incredibly insightful so we got together to talk through what self-control is, why it's valuable, and how you can move toward having more of it.
