As a teenager, he played against future superstars like Yuvraj Singh, who was also just starting out and is now a cricket legend. However, despite Taraia's aspirations and potential to join the New Zealand Blackcaps, fate had other plans in store. Nevertheless, this setback did not deter him from finding an alternative path to success, which ultimately led to a remarkable journey. We believe his inspiring and true story is one worth sharing. The Adviser talk is also available on Spotify and Apple Podcast. India white-washed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series under the watchful eyes of Gautam Gambhir. One of the most prominent features in the series was that batters chipped in with the ball when necessary. Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh rolled their arms in a crunch situation and helped India win the final match of the series. This was reminiscent of the pre-2011 era of Indian cricket, where the team had able part-timers in Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh, among others, who had the ability to hold their nerve when handed the ball. While it is too early to tell if this could be a regular thing, it is surely a welcome change for the Indian team, who have struggled with their combinations in white-ball cricket with their top order not contributing with the ball. In this episode of the Sledging Room, Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Kingshuk Kusari discuss the point of the Sri Lanka T20I series and what they learned from Gambhir's first stint as the India head coach. Tune in! Produced by Anna Priyadarshini

The 2023 ODI World Cup to be played in India is less than three months away. But is the Indian team ready? There isn't much time and now is as good a time as any to delve deep into India's preparedness for cricket's showpiece event which returns to Asia after 12 years.India had of course won the World Cup in 2011 which was co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Back then, India had a solid side ready for the World Cup with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni in superb form. Besides, the team had plenty of bowling options in the playing XI.Rohit Sharma's team has issues. Yes, they started the year well with series wins over Sri Lanka and New Zealand but they were beaten by Australia. Rohit Sharma hasn't played a lot of ODIs after the pandemic while Virat Kohli is still struggling to get his mojo back, never mind those hundreds against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. To make matters worse, Suryakumar Yadav has not set the ODI stage on fire despite his heroics in T20Is. He bagged three golden ducks in the series against Australia but given his heroic return to form for Mumbai Indians, India would be hoping he is in fine form for the rest of the year. Rishabh Pant, a high-impact player in the middle-order is racing against time to be fit for the World Cup following a car crash in December. Moreover, India's bowling resources will also be in focus. Jasprit Bumrah, who destroyed England with a six-wicket haul in July last year, has been away from action for a long time. The focus will be on Mohammed Siraj to lead the pace attack while the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal could end up playing crucial roles. Also on the Sledging Room, a look into England's fightback against Australia at Leeds. And as India start their third cycle of the World Test Championship, can Yashasvi Jaiswal cement his place in the side? Will Shubman Gill be a suitable replacement for Cheteshwar Pujara? Will Rohit Sharma, the India Test captain, answer his critics with some solid performances?Saurabh Kumar and Alan John join Rajarshi Gupta in a riveting debate on the latest episode of the Sledging Room.Tune in!Produced by Anna PriyadarshiniSound mix by Sachin Dwivedi

We discussed how Indian cricket team is on a roll against England in the 5th Test Match. So far the first 2 days clearly belong to India. It is to be seen how Ben Stokes and his England Cricket men will make a comeback in this test match. So much now rely on Jhonny Bairstow and Captain Stokes to provide England the stability to stay in this match. India on the other hand has defied all odds and have come out all guns blazing under the inspirational captaincy of Bumrah. Stuart Broad had a rough ending to his spell at the hands of Jasprit Bumrah and his performance would remind him of the nightmares that Yuvraj Singh gave him early in his career.Further more we covered the brilliance of Australian cricket team in subcontinent conditions recently against SriLanka and Ireland's mammoth effort against Hardik Pandya and his men. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
Herbert Hoover delivered his inaugural address on March 4th, 1929. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Herbert Hoover's accomplishments prior to presidency were effectively neutralized in public opinion after the Great Depression began on his watch. Though the seeds for such crisis are planted in the prior years, they tend to fall hardest on those that deal with the crisis. It was perhaps the single largest factor in deciding that Hoover would remain in the shadow of his successor. The cover art is an 1956 portrait of Herbert Hoover by Elmer Wesley Greene. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
Calvin Coolidge delivered his inaugural address on March 4th, 1925. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Calvin Coolidge served out his partial first term before being elected as president. After the scandals that rocked Harding's term, Coolidge served as a calming and rehabilitative president, restoring faith to the White House. He was famous for not talking more than needed (though he still gave a 4,000 word long inaugural address), earning him the nickname “Silent Cal”. The cover art is an 1932 portrait of Calvin Coolidge by Charles Sydney Hopkinson. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
Warren G. Harding delivered his inaugural address on March 4th, 1921. Read by Yuvraj Singh. When he was elected, Harding was popular and well regarded. But if even George Washington couldn't leave the presidency as popular as he was when he started it, there was little hope for someone who isn't the Father of his Nation. An extramarital affair and and several scandals did a number on his own luster, and his presidency wasn't what it could have been – he died a little over two years into his term, to be replaced with Calvin Coolidge. The cover art is an 1922 portrait of Warren Harding by Edmund Hodgson Smart. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
Woodrow Wilson delivered his second inaugural address on March 5th, 1917. Read by Yuvraj Singh. A month after delivering his address, Wilson would officially take the United States into World War I. For the 2nd time in the nations history, a sitting president was assassinated. Chester Arthur rose through politics as a part of Roscoe Conkling's political machine in New York. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
Rutherford B. Hayes delivered his inaugural address on March 5th, 1877. Read by Yuvraj Singh. The Election of 1876 was only the 2nd time that a president had lost the popular vote but won the electoral; it is the first of four where a Republican had lost the popular vote, but won the electoral college. He had pledged not to run for a 2nd term and stuck with his promise; he used his time in government to reform the civil service restore faith in government. His presidency was during the Gilded Age, when wealth disparity was widespread. He noted this after his presidency. > “[I]t is time for the public to hear that the giant evil and danger in this country, the danger which transcends all others, is the vast wealth owned or controlled by a few persons. Money is power. In Congress, in state legislatures, in city councils, in the courts, in the political conventions, in the press, in the pulpit, in the circles of the educated and the talented, its influence is growing greater and greater. Excessive wealth in the hands of the few means extreme poverty, ignorance, vice, and wretchedness as the lot of the many…. Let the people be fully informed and convinced as to the evil. Let them earnestly seek the remedy and it will be found…. We may reach and remove the difficulty by changes in the laws regulating corporations, descents of property, wills, trusts, taxation, and a host of other important interests, not omitting lands and other property.” The cover art is an 1884 portrait of Rutherford B. Hayes by Daniel Huntington. Andrew Johnson delivered his address upon assuming the office of president on April 17th, 1865.. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Whoever came after Lincoln would have a lot to prove, though it's difficult to suppose many could do worse than Andrew Johnson. Johnson was a slaver, but against southern secession; still, his mishandling of Reconstruction would have a significant impact on the United States. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
James Buchanan delivered inaugural address on March 4th, 1857. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Buchanan is perhaps best known for being the president immediately before Abraham Lincoln. Considered one of the lower ranked presidents, Buchanan is often compared to his successor. He supported the Dred Scott which held that American citizenship was not meant for Black people, whether enslaved or free – and so the rights provided by the Constitution did not apply to them (the decision is widely considered to be one of, if not the, worst Supreme Court decision). The cover art is an 1859 portrait of James Buchanan by George Peter Alexander Healy. Franklin Pierce delivered inaugural address on March 4th, 1853. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Franklin Pierce came into the presidency after suffering tragedy. Just a couple of months prior, he lost his 11 year old son, Benny, in a train wreck. Millard Fillmore's message to Congress upon the death of Zachary Taylor. Delivered 07/10/1850. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Fillmore was advanced to the presidency of his predecessor, Zachary Taylor, died after a year in office. Like several presidents before him, and the couple after him, slavery was a pertinent issue during his presidency. The Compromise of 1850, which included the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, is perhaps the most notable aspect of his presidency. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
Zachary Taylor delivered inaugural address on March 5th, 1849. Read by Yuvraj Singh. The 12th president of the United States, Taylor had served just a few months over a year before dying in office – the 2nd president to do so. Elected just 12 years before the beginning of the Civil War, slavery was the most important and dominant issue of his time. Though he doesn't rank highly as a president, it's less because of his failures and more because of his short term. The cover art is an 1848 portrait of Zachary Taylor by Joseph Henry Bush. Martin van Buren delivered his inaugural address on March 4th, 1837. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Before he became president, Martin Van Buren had a storied political career. He was Governor of New York, Secretary of State, and Vice President. He had the support of his predecessor, Andrew Jackson. He was known as the Little Magician and the Fox – a consummate, inveterate politician. Still, the state of affairs in the country was such that, at the end of his first & only term, he earned a new nickname: Martin Van Ruin. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
Andrew Jackson delivered his 2nd inaugural address on March 4th, 1833. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Jackson remains one of the most fascinating presidents we had, as well as one of the most controversial. He typically evokes polarizing reactions – which makes sense, as he was a hard-driven, partisan president. His Wikipedia profile has a quote from a biographer that sums it up: Andrew Jackson, I am given to understand, was a patriot and a traitor. He was one of the greatest generals, and wholly ignorant of the art of war. A brilliant writer, elegant, eloquent, without being able to compose a correct sentence or spell words of four syllables. The first of statesmen, he never devised, he never framed, a measure. He was the most candid of men, and was capable of the most profound dissimulation. A most law-defying law-obeying citizen. A stickler for discipline, he never hesitated to disobey his superior. A democratic autocrat. An urbane savage. An atrocious saint. – James Parton The cover art is an 1837 portrait of Andrew Jackson by Ralph Eleaser Whiteside Earl. My Fellow Americans: The Inaugural Addresses of the U.S. Presidents
Andrew Jackson delivered his 1st inaugural address on March 4th, 1829. Read by Yuvraj Singh. Jackson was a famous general even before he became president. He had a rough upbringing and never quite left the hardscrabble life behind (famously, he said on his deathbed that one of his regrets was not hanging his former vice-president, John C. Calhoun, for treason: “My country would have sustained me in the act, and his fate would have been a warning to traitors in all time to come.”) His election ushered in the dominant political philosophy of Jacksonian democracy, which expanded democracy for white males. Black people, Native Americans, and women saw little to no progress. A year later would see the Indian Removal Act of 1830 pass and the beginning of the Trail of Tears.
