The past year and a half tested us all but it also brought countless examples of hope and sacrifice. We saw brave Salvation Army officers, staff, volunteers and friends continue to serve and show care in their communities in ways big and small.  We're designating these incredible individuals—nominated by you!—our Caring Heroes. And, as a small gesture of respect and gratitude, we honored them in a live virtual awards ceremony July 23. We named the 2021 Caring Heroes—the brave, compassionate, passionate, uplifting, caring members of our communities. We were inspired by Brad Montague, New York Times bestselling author and creator of Kid President. And we were encouraged and challenged by The Salvation Army's Western Territorial Commander Commissioner Douglas Riley. He thanked the awardees for “loving people who need it—whether they know it or not.” And on this episode of the podcast, we're bringing you his message along with a song by Matt Woods, with accompaniment by Jill Ulmer, titled “Love Changes Everything.”  As the song goes: “Love will never let you be the same.” Enjoy this clip from the awards show and then watch the full replay. Scripture For Today: Isaiah 37:4 “It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule the living God, and that he will rebuke him for the words the Lord your God has heard. Therefore pray for the remnant that still survives.”Refuse to Worry pt 6We have been studying about Refusing to Worry and how we need to “Cast all of our cares over on the Lord, for He cares for us,” from 1 Peter 5:7. Do you remember awhile back when we talked about Peter and Silas praying in the jail? This is from Acts 16:25-26.  They had been put in the jail and locked up tight. Their feet were in stocks. Their backs were bleeding because of the beatings they had endured. But the Bible says, “…at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed…”  But, that scripture does not end there, does it. NO!  It continues and says, “…AND they sang praises unto God…!” I believe this is what Paul was referring to when he wrote, “…in EVERY THING, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God…”  Paul wrote this letter to who? The church at Philippi, right?  Let's look at the sequence of events… First, they are arrested, beaten and locked up, right? It would have been so easy for them to start wondering “Why did God allow this to happen to us?  Why didn't He make a way of escape? Why? Why? Why?” That's what a lot of people would be doing, right?  I'm including me in that, too! Amen! You probably would be too! Amen! You went to this town to share the Gospel and you end up getting arrested, beaten and locked in the prison!  How did this happen?  That would be a normal reaction, right? Not for Paul and Silas!  Amen! Next, they PRAYED.  Do you see that?  Ok, then what happened? After they PRAYED – they began to SING PRAISES TO GOD! The scripture goes on to say, “…and the prisoners HEARD THEM…”  If the prisoners heard them, you can rest assured God heard them, too! Amen!  You know the rest of the story. God gave them a great deliverance and the jailer and his family were born again and baptized in the Spirit – and ALL THE PRISONERS, too! Praise God. There is no doubt in my mind, that the jailer at that prison became the pastor of the church in Philippi. None!  That is what the Church in Philippi was!  A jailhouse church! Praise God! Think about it!  Nowhere else does it say Paula and Silas established other house churches there. No doubt there were some established. But I believe this was a true prison ministry that then extended out to the dwellers around that area. Think about it… Those whose loved ones were locked up were probably living pretty close to prison. It was not like it is today. The family was more or less responsible for feeding and taking care of the needs of the prisoners. Amen!   What do you think the prisoners shared with their family members?  What Paul and Silas did and who they were talking about while in there! JESUS! Amen! This impacted the entire city and area!  This is why we are still talking about it today!  Amen! Let's Pray! Scripture For Today: Daniel 8:23 “As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision…”Refuse to Worry pt 5We have been studying about Refusing to Worry and how we need to “Cast all of our cares over on the Lord, for He cares for us.” That's in 1 Peter 5:7. Yesterday, we were discussing the three things Paul shared in Philippians 4:6 where he wrote: “…but in EVERY THING, by prayer and supplication, with THANKSGIVING, let your requests be made known to God.” First, Paul told us “don't worry.” We covered that yesterday. Next, he said “In EVERY THING” – that means, guess what? EVERY THING – he said to “…pray and let your requests be made known to God.” Third, he emphasized to “PRAY WITH THANKGIVING.”  We covered yesterday that many, many Christians do not have any thanksgiving in their prayers at all. It's mainly blaming and complaining coupled with gimme gimme gimme, my name is Jimmy, type of prayers. We left off with thanksgiving to God MUST be made before your answer manifests. Paul said we are to “pray with thanksgiving.” When you pray with “thanksgiving,” you are thanking God ahead of time because you KNOW that the answer is on the way. Amen! You know God has heard your prayer because His Word says so!  Amen!  This is something that many believers are missing out on because they fail to pray WITH THANKSGIVING.  They want to wait until the receive the answer to their prayer before they give God thanks.  That's the HUMAN way of thinking! Or, we should say, that is the way the DEVIL wants you to pray. Amen!  I know I just stepped on your Spiritual toes right there, Praise God! I believe that if people would stop asking God for the same thing over and over and over and over again – and instead, they would start to PRAISE HIM and THANK HIM for the answer to the prayer they already requested – they would receive the manifestation a lot faster! I know that steps on a lot of denominational false teaching. I know that steps on a lot of spiritual toes. But guess what – IT IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS you are supposed to do!  SO, are you going to continue praying in the same way that hasn't gotten you anything in the past – just because that's the way you've always prayed? Or, are you going to begin to walk by Faith and not by sight and to pray the way the BIBLE says you are supposed to pray?  It's really up to you… But I want to pray for you right now that you would begin to “walk by faith and not by sight” and start to pray the way Paul has been instructing you to pray. To “make your requests known to God – WITH THANKSGIVING.” Amen! Let's Pray! Scripture For Today:Job 22:27“You will pray to Him, and He will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows.”Refuse to Worry pt 4We have been studying about Refusing to Worry and how we need to “Cast all of our cares over on the Lord, for He cares for us.” That's in 1 Peter 5:7. Yesterday, we left off with how some people, even born again believers, feel it is their obligation to worry. If they don't worry about something, they feel they are not doing their Christian duty or something. I seen a bumper sticker or sign or something one time that said something to the effect of, “Why pray when you can worry.” Although it was meant to be humorous, in fact, it was stating how many believer operate!  It's sad – but true! Our motto should be, “Why worry when you can pray!”  Philippians 4:6 says, “…but in EVERYTHING, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Did you notice, it says “with THANKSGIVING.”  That's not talking only during your annual turkey dinner. Amen. Paul has shared several different facets of prayer in this one verse. Let's look at them: 1.     Don't worry.  It does not matter what the circumstances are, you are commanded to NOT worry about it. Don't fret over it. Don't concern yourself with the outcome – God has your back! Amen! 2.     Paul said “… in EVERYTHING…”  that covers how much of the circumstances you are facing? EVERYTHING!  Amen!  Everything means Every Thing. All of it.   You are supposed to “…in everything, with prayer and supplication, make your requests known to God.”  You can PRAY ABOUT IT – just don't worry about it!  3.     He said to PRAY WITH THANKSGIVING.  Some people never pray with thanksgiving. Ever. Their prayer requests don't even come close to giving of thanks. They are more like moaning, groaning and complaining and “gimme gimme gimme” type of prayers. Paul said to Pray WITH THANKSGIVING about the outcome of your prayer!  Just start thanking God for the answer AS YOU PRAY about it – not when you see it. Oh, I don't have time to go down that rabbit trail today… Glory to God!   Let's Pray! So much to talk about...  How do we do meetings now that we know we don't always have to meet in person but meeting in person allows us to create community quicker, quoting  Peter Block ( no Relation)  From his book, The Structure of Community,   "Every time we meet is an opportunity to create the world we want to live, "  given that how do we then use these meeting spaces to address equity and inclusion and create the world that wants to live in, it is possible now we need to implement it. Finally, Chris updates us on his new position in San Fransisco the job he has been training for his entire life,  housing the homeless, feeling most days that they are making gains, given that there are actually resources available for this there is no reason not to house even those that have been neglected in the past. Parenting Transformation vs Improvement

IMPACT: Parenting with Perspective

Transformation VS Improvement. Improvement focuses on better whereas transformation focuses on different. Usually, improvement is focused on the perceived problems, and simply improving how we respond to the problem. Transformation on the other hand is focused on the vision of what could be and becoming the vision. There is a time a place for both transformation and improvement. To Transform or to Improve, That is The QuestionLike I said, there is a time and a place for both transformation and improvement. You get to decide where you are and what you need. You can achieve both through coaching, but it's up to you to know and understand what YOU want to be working on. How to Achieve Parenting TransformationStep #1 Start with Awareness This is my favorite place to start. Take some time to develop some awareness about where you are in your own personal growth. Become aware of what is going on around you and within you. Understand not only the what, but the why and the impact it is having on you. I see lots of people skipping this step. They want a transformation. They know they are not happy as they are, but they don't really take the time to deeply understand why.  Become aware of what you CAN and CAN'T control, what you want to control and what you don't want to control, and what you're willing to control and what you're not willing to control. This awareness will help prepare you for step #2.For more on awareness checkout Episode 39, Awareness Before IntentionStep #2 Be Willing to Let Go of Things This step is huge! In fact, currently the biggest struggle that I see with the parents that I work with is their unwillingness to let go of things. And 99% of the time, the things parents have the hardest time letting go of are the things that aren't actually within their control. Be willing to let go of the things that you cannot control. Be willing to let go of things that are not your priority. We live in a world that has normalized trying to do E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. We end up doing so many things that we can't do any of them well. If it's not a priority, stop doing it. This step is key to getting a transformation! When you commit to doing less, you'll actually get way more done!Step #3 Be intentionalBeing intentional is vital to creating a parenting transformation. Being unintentional is likely what has created your current circumstance. Most of what we do is unintentional. By shifting into intention, you will change who you are BEing. To do this, really explore . . . WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE? WHAT ARE MY VALUES?WHAT ARE MY PRIORITIES?WHAT ARE THE RESULTS I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH AS A PARENT?This doesn't mean that you will magically be perfectly intentional. Learn from the times that you are living out of intention. Recommit to BEing the change that you want to see. Summer Is Perfect For TransformationI believe that summer time is actually a better time to achieve a transformation, especially for parents like you!Summer is only 2-3 months. You're not committing to a whole year like you did in January. It's doable. You've got this. Call to ACTION!Join our parenting membership. You can transform yourself as a parent, and we want to help. Stop worrying that you are doing it all wrong, and join the Firmly Founded Parent TODAY!Become the Parent of Your Dreams TODAY!

Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 27 of The Berean Manifesto; 10 minutes or so a week of Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian.  This is Pastor Bill of The Ekklesian House and in this installment we will be talking about the meaning of not “casting pearls before swine.” Ok, so we have this pretty popular phrase from Jesus about not tossing or “casting” your pearls before swine.  And this particular quote I have seen used several times, but let's start by putting it back in context.  This comes from Matthew chapter 7, starting right at the beginning of the chapter, Matthew 7:1-6 CSB, “[1] Do not judge, so that you won't be judged. [2] For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use. [3] Why do you look at the splinter in your brother's eye but don't notice the beam of wood in your own eye? [4] Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,' and look, there's a beam of wood in your own eye? [5] Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood our of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother's eye. [6] Don't give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them under their feet, turn, and tear you to pieces.” I wish that were more straightforward, what Jesus was actually saying there.  But, as with most things translated from one language to another it can be difficult to cut through straight to what He meant.  Let's break this into two parts and add some definition to each.  The first is this stuff about a beam of wood in your eye and a splinter in your brother's eye.  This is the part that seems pretty understandable, but we don't want to assume that we understand something and should look for something to back it up. Let's read Romans 2:17-24 CSB, “[17] Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law, and boast in God, [18] and know his will, and approve the things that are superior, being instructed from the law, [19] and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness, [20] an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of the immature, having the embodiment of knowledge and truth in the law – [21] you then, who teach another, don't you teach yourself? You who preach, ‘You must not steal' – do you steal? [22] You who say, ‘You must not commit adultery' – do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob their temples? [23] You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? [24] For as it is written: The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” Paul here may have been directly addressing Jew's, but I hope you can see the correlation on how that would apply to you and I as modern day believers in Christ.  We who have the light and have the truth.  We who have found true spiritual enlightenment have to walk our talk.  If we say to love our neighbor, then we should love our neighbor and so on. In order to piece this all together let's read Romans 14:1-12 CSB, it says, “[1] Accept anyone who is weak in faith, but don't argue about disputed matters. [2] One person believes he may eat anything, while one who is weak eats only vegetables. [3] One who eats must not look down on one who does not eat, and one who does not eat must not judge one who does, because God has accepted him. [4] Who are you to judge another's household servant? Before his own Lord he stands or falls. And he will stand, because the Lord is able to make him stand. [5] One person judges one day to be more important than another day. Someone else judges every day to be the same. Let each one be fully convinced in his own mind. [6] Whoever observes the day, observes it for the honor of the Lord. Whoever eats, eats for the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; and whoever does not eat, it is for the Lord that he does not eat it, and he gives thanks to God. [7] For none of us lives for himself, and no one dies for himself. [8] If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. [9] Christ died and returned to life for this: that he might be Lord over both the dead and the living. [10] But why do you judge your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we all stand before the judgment seat of God. [11] For it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will give praise to God. [12] So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.” Alright, so if we piece Matthew 7:1-5 and verse 6 back together with what we've just read from Romans we get a much better picture of what Jesus was teaching.  Allow me to put this in my own words, and if you've been following along for very long then you've already heard this from me.  As far as judging is concerned, your first duty is to judge yourself and make sure that you are following the convictions of your heart and following the scripture as you understand it.  If you judge another believer you are opening up the door for them to rightfully judge you, an honor that should only belong to God and those God appoints to that duty for you.  When you judge another believer, or worse an unbeliever, for what you perceive to be their sin you are becoming both the caster of that pearl that is God's honor and the becoming the pig trampling on God's honor all at the same time. Now, before someone comes at me sideways, I didn't say that you can do whatever you want and that there isn't sin.  That is a theology that was held by some in the lifetimes of Paul and John who were called Nicolaitans, and we see a lot of that today cropping up into a lot of theological circles.  Jesus directly references them in Revelations chapter 2 verses 6 and 15-16, he says, Revelations 2:6 CSB, “[6] Yet you do have this: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.”  And in verses 15-16 Revelations 2:15-16 CSB, “[15] In the same way, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. [16] So repent! Otherwise, I will come to you quickly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth.” It's not simple, it's this complicated matter that you have to struggle with yourself.  In 1 Corinthians 6:12 CSB Paul says, “'Everything is permissible for me,' but not everything is beneficial.  ‘Everything is permissible for me,' but I will not be mastered by anything.”  To a very real degree salvation has set you free to do anything.  But, that isn't an excuse to do the things you know to be wrong.  Sin will wreck your life and leave you hurting.  You have to take the responsibility of identifying the things that are sin in your life. This is Pastor Bill saying, “Until next time…”

In this episode of The Moving Mastery Podcast, Louis Massaro shares how to incentivize your moving crews to help you create raving fans out of your customers. You'll learn: Why incentivizing your movers is key to getting more repeat and referral customers What your movers should be doing on every move to help create raving fans How a mover rewards program can get you 5-star reviews The #1 goal on EVERY move is to create raving fans so that you get more repeat customers, referrals, and 5-star reviews.  In order to do that, you've got to have your crews on-board with this and understand your number one objective: to create happy customers and raving fans. But, if you don't have any incentives or ways of keeping your crew focused on that goal, or ways for them to earn extra money, you're going to have a hard time getting them motivated to help you create those raving fans out of your customers. Your movers need to see how they can help, not only the company, but also help themselves.  They need to know what's in it for them. In this episode of The Moving Mastery Podcast, Louis shares three things you can do to incentivize your crews and give them a reason to want to help you in creating happy customers and getting 5-star reviews. Establish Your Customer Rating Process Create a Simple Reward Program Introduce it to Your Crew I'm sure you've got movers that come to you all the time and want a raise. Well, this is an opportunity to give them a raise. But, they've got to earn it, right? Set up a reward program. Set up some incentives. Show your guys that you care. If your crews are doing a great job and working really hard, and your customers are happy, show them your appreciation for it. This will only HELP your business.  Let them go out and be focused on what you're focused on, which is creating happy customers.  Raving fans are going to give five-star reviews, repeatedly move with you again and again, and also refer you to somebody else. So, incentivize your movers to make sure these things continue to happen on every move. In this episode of The Moving Mastery Podcast, Louis Massaro shares what areas you must train your movers on besides simply how to “move”. You'll learn: Why knowing how to pad a chair or load a truck is only part of your mover's responsibilities on a job What your movers need to do to create raving fans out of your customers How to increase customer satisfaction and get more 5-star reviews Properly training your movers is one of the most important things you could do to grow a successful moving company, but you've got to do more than just train them how to move. You've got to train them on how to deal with every situation that happens on the move. They need to know what you expect them to do if problems arise while they're there with the customer. They need to be trained in customer service. If you don't define exactly how you want your movers to behave on the job and the steps that you want them to take from the time that they get there until the time that they're done, you're going to have a lot of stress, and you're going to have a hard time growing your company. In this episode, Louis gives you three things your movers need to be trained on besides just how to pad, how to load, how to protect floors, how to protect door jambs, how to pack, how to inventory… All the training that goes along with typical “moving” is great, but if you miss these three important components, you're not going to experience the customer satisfaction and create the raving fans that you want to really build your business: Customer Etiquette Resolving Conflict Company Policies and Procedures Once Louis was able to define all of that, it really helped him build his company, which he eventually took to a nationwide, eight-figure business where he was doing 12,000 moves a year. Hiring Movers: Qualities and Skills to Look For

The Moving Mastery Podcast with Louis Massaro

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 9, 2021 22:09

In this episode of The Moving Mastery Podcast, Louis Massaro shares what qualities and skills to look for when hiring movers. You'll learn: What qualities and skills to look for in your applicants Why you must have an exact criteria for deciding which mover applications to send through the hiring process How to avoid hiring the wrong person for your team When you are hiring movers, there should be some specific qualities and skills you're looking for in the ideal candidate. Their individual qualities as a person, as an employee, and then you have their skills of moving furniture and things like that. So, how do we determine exactly which qualities and the skills that we're looking for? It's important as we go out and start to do our recruiting efforts that we establish a criteria for sorting through the applicants. This will allow you to basically run them through a filter to make it easier to find the best candidates. Either they match the criteria or they don't match the criteria. If they match then they move on to the next step in the hiring process. Simple. In this episode of The Moving Mastery Podcast, taken from one of Louis's Moving CEO Business Program monthly livecasts, he shares his process for determining what qualities and skills to look for in your mover applicants. And, he also walks you through his Mover Applicant Quadrant to help you simplify the hiring process and quickly get the helpers you need to service jobs. Movers don't need all the skills of lumping, packing, padding, crating, etc. to be a good candidate for your team, because you can always train them on what they don't know how to do. But, it is important that you identify the criteria you need at the time, because your criteria is different at different times. You might be looking for just drivers right now. You might be looking for just helpers or even helpers that don't even have much experience, that can just lump furniture. It depends on the time of year and what you're looking for at the moment, so before you ever go to place an ad to hire, you want to establish what your criteria is for hiring, what you're looking for now so that you could sift through every applicant quickly. Then, once you have your criteria, the next step is to divide up the applicants into Louis's Mover Applicant Quadrant. There are four types of applicants that are going to be coming in, and in this podcast, Louis shows you how to use his Mover Applicant Quadrant to get the best applications running through the hiring process quickly by determining exactly what type of applicant they are: Type 1: Experienced, Good Qualities Type 2: Inexperienced, Good Qualities, Eager to Learn Type 3: Experienced, Bad Qualities Type 4: Inexperienced, Good Qualities, Not Eager to Learn When it comes to hiring we tend to make things bigger and more complicated in our minds than they need to be. But if we're able to systematize and take things and just lay them out, and go step-by-step, one foot in front of the other... It becomes easy to make good decisions quickly. Louis talks so much about process, process, process, but when you have those processes, it eliminates all the mental effort of trying to figure every little thing out, every single day. You just, essentially, hit start on the process and run it step-by-step. Done. Use this episode as your guide to help you save time and decide the best mover applicants to hire this moving season.
