Daily Habits for Parenting SuccessSet Your Intention Each DayLast thing before you go to bed, set your intention for the following day. First thing when you wake up in the morning, remind yourself of and commit to your intention. Here's some examples from my life.Today I will listen with curiosity, patience, and love.Today I will be fun, energetic, and engaged with my children.Today I will learn a new way to connect with my 15 year old son.Commit to Connection DailyBe 100% committed to connect to your teen.Choose to love your teen.Show them that you love them.Show them that you are confident that they will be okay. Let them know that you trust that EVERYTHING will be okay. Connect with them right where they are. Stay calm, listen, treat your teen with kindness and fairness, and do your best to let them know that you aren't mad and that you love and care about them.Embrace the MomentFar too often we are guilty of not being present. Don't try to avoid the moment. Don't try to fix, change, or improve it. BE IN THE MOMENT.Be in the moment WITH your teen!Manage Your MindI like to use the Self-Coaching ModelI also like to use the Be, Do, Have Model. I am starting to get into journaling and writing.Sharing what I've learned with others.Trust Yourself, Your Teen, and the ProcessThis one is HUGE for me this year.Trust will change everything. You are exactly what your teen need, they are exactly what you need and want, and the process you two are experiencing is exactly what you need. Let Go Of Things Outside of Your ControlThis is hard, but so powerful. When you hold onto things outside of your control, you lose power and energy. When you let go, you have more power and energy to put towards things within your control. Let go of your teen's model and manage your own!Practice, Practice, PracticeOne of my favorite lessons, and one I came up with myself, is the "Wheel of Time."When you're on the top of the wheel, practice and prepare for when you are on the bottom. When you're on the bottom of the wheel, just keep going and do your best to do what you practiced at the top of the wheel. Life is all about practice and improvement. It doesn't have to be pretty or perfect.Be Willing to Be Wrong and/or Make MistakesOne of the things that divides parents and teens is when one or both of them are committed to being "Right!"Be willing to be wrong. Let your teen be "Right!"Be willing to make mistakes. Be the example of what to do when you make mistakes. Be The Change You Want to SeeIf you want your teen to be something else, YOU Be that change! If you want your teen to be more confident, YOU Be more confident in both your teen and yourself. Play to Your StrengthsLast but not least, play to your strengths. Yes, you have weaknesses, and if you're listening to this podcast you probably want to address your weaknesses, but trust your strengths. God gave you strengths that are unique to you.Trust them and use them!Call to ACTION!Come join me in the Firmly Founded Parent Membership! Start being the parent of your dreams TODAY!JOIN HERE!

Episode Highlights [04:57] Nir's Background As a behavioural designer, Nir helps companies build products and services that encourage individuals to develop healthy habits. The same strategy and technology addictive platforms like Facebook use can help people form good habits. Nir has written Hooked to help people build good habits. Meanwhile, Indistractable teaches people how to break bad habits. People often know what to do to create a better life but don't take action. As such, Nir believes that learning to be indistractable is the skill of the century. [06:25] On Indistractable: Understanding Distractions The opposite of distraction isn't focus; it's traction. Traction is any action that will bring you closer to your goals and values. Therefore, distraction is any action that will pull you away from your goals and values. The most dangerous form of distraction is the one where we think we're being productive. We often prioritise the urgent and easy work over the hard and important ones. [10:40] Social Media and Addiction There's a widespread belief that social media will make you addicted. But in reality, this is learned helplessness. When people believe that they're addicted, they often don't do anything about it. There's nothing wrong with social media. The problem is how we use it. We are not powerless against technology. [13:22] How to Gain Back Control People don't accomplish a goal because they quit early and don't feel like doing the work. We often blame our distractions on external forces. However, around 90% of these are due to internal triggers. Internal triggers are uncomfortable emotions that we want to escape. We do this by distracting ourselves. In reality, time management is about pain management. [17:43] Letting Go of Limiting Beliefs Nir warns against anchoring our autonomy on neurotransmitters. When we believe we have a specific nature, we limit our agency. Before labelling yourself a certain way, do the work. People find success when they act before they make excuses. Believing in ego depletion is also harmful. Find out why in the full episode! [24:49] The Indistractable Model: Steps One and Two The first strategy to becoming indistractable is mastering your internal triggers through visualisation. Don't envision the outcome. Doing so can be harmful because it makes you feel like you've already done the work. Visualise what you'll do when you're tempted to go off track. The second step is to make time for traction. You can't call something a distraction unless you know what you're distracted from. Having a to-do list can be harmful; plan daily schedules instead. [27:44] The Indistractable Model: Steps Three and Four The third step is to decrease external triggers. Finally, prevent distractions with pacts or pre-commitments. [30:40] What You Should Measure We have a lot of self-limiting beliefs. You need to distinguish whether these are things you cannot do or just ones you don't want to do. When doing something, the consistency of your actions contributes more to your success than the intensity. Understand that accomplishing your goals takes time. Instead of looking at your output, learn to measure your progress through your inputs, such as time and effort. [37:57] Be Willing to Put in the Hard Work There's no magic pill for our problems and goals. Everything takes time and work. Keep showing up and doing the hard work. We now have access to so much information; you just need to get out there and learn. Remember that if you're looking for distraction, it will come. [41:58] Adapting to Changes Around Us All new things have consequences. The good thing is, we humans are highly adaptable. In the same vein, you have the power to adapt and control how you consume ‘addictive' social media. Not the other way around. Nir believes that the world is getting better. However, good news does not get much media coverage. Try to be more optimistic. Only then can you seek solutions to problems and not resign yourself to the situation. You don't need to worry about everyone's problems. Your human capital is best directed toward issues where you can make the easiest and most significant impact. [50:48] How to Make Habit-Forming Products Use habit-forming products frequently and soon. It should be something that you use within a week or less. First, tap into internal triggers and specify which uncomfortable emotion your product wants to solve. Second, reduce friction. Make your product as easy as possible to use. Third, create variable rewards. Uncertainty is what excites people and gets them hooked. Finally, it helps to make people invest in the experience. Listen to the full episode to dive deeper into making habit-forming products! [55:19] The 3 C's of Engagement Fostering engagement can be done through content, community, and conversation. Curate content that will give value to others. Empower people to help one another so you can create a strong-knit community. Lastly, have conversations with people to share knowledge and wisdom. 7 Powerful Quotes from This Episode ‘The opposite of distraction is not focus. If you look at the origin of the word, the opposite of distraction is traction. You'll notice that both traction and distraction end in the same six letters, a-c-t-i-o-n.' ‘Traction, by definition, is any action that pulls you towards what you said you were going to do. Things that you do with intent. Things that move you closer to your values and help you become the kind of person you want to become.' ‘We have this model in our heads: traction, distraction, internal, external, right? Now we know that the four big parts of the Indistractable model. So now, we work our way around these four steps like the points on a compass.' ‘One of my life mantras is: “Consistency over intensity”. I think that's how we change.' ‘We want that instant relief. We want that instant solution. Look, the things that are worth having in life, they take time.' ‘What's going to lead us out of our problems is not running away from these problems, not throwing up our hands and giving up. But rather, engaging with these problems, right?' ‘[Habit-forming products] appreciate in value, meaning they get better and better the more we interact with them because of what I call stored value.' The Accountability Minute:Business Acceleration|Productivity
Today we are talking about tip #4 of the 4 tips to communicate effectively with clients – which is to Be Willing to Ask Questions. When you're starting a new client assignment, it's easy to get excited and jump head first into the project, but don't let your excitement or enthusiasm get too far ahead. Remember, your first priority is to remain conscious of effective communication and be sure that you and your client are on the same page. Effective communication will allow you to jot down the necessary details before the project begins and save you embarrassment down the line with clients. When you skip effective communication and jump the gun, you could find yourself in a situation that makes you or your business appear unprofessional and inexperienced or get wrangled in to doing work you don't get paid for. If you are unsure about any detail of an assignment, or fear your client may not have a full understanding, you must be willing to ask questions. Fixing misunderstandings is easiest at the beginning of an assignment, but not so easy after work has already begun. Take the time to be sure you and your client are communicating effectively with each other. As the business owner, it's your responsibility to think ahead and head-off any potential snags. It's important to make the process of working with you and your business as simple as possible. Remember, your client is paying for results, not complications, so be sure to always take steps to communicate effectively with your clients. Action Step: Be very clear from the beginning with your service agreements and contracts. Set clear boundaries and detail specifically what is being provided at the set price, as well as, optional or extended services that will require additional funds. Go over the details of the contract in-person or over the phone whenever possible. Head off potential problems during the project early. If you see something that throws a red flag, discuss it with the client early on to avoid big blowups. Being a business owner goes far beyond the books and sales. You must be a forward-thinking problem solver who is continually evolving into a better business owner and person. Essentially, you become a leader the moment you start your own business and can never relinquish the title for as long as you own your business. Throughout the life of your business, it will be a continual refinement of processes and communication; adapting your approach to suit the needs of your clients. Over the past 4 days, we explored Tips to Communicate Effectively with Clients. Take one or more of these ideas and implement them to help you accelerate your business results. Show Notes: [0:00:50] Episode Summary | Intro THE Jeremy Moore? 2nd Vaccine Preparation & Anxieties Last Episode Recap Building and Developing Your Team [0:04:35] Getting Philosophical About Communication Why Communication Isn’t ‘One-Size-Fits-All’ Dangers of Treating Distributed Communication Like You’re Collocated How this is applicable to all areas of your life. “It started with pagers.” Always On, “As Soon as Possible” Culture is a Problem Activity is not to be confused with progress. If you’re always available, when can you ever hope to do ‘deep work’? Anxiety induced by not being available, or forgetting your phone. [0:14:08] Story Time: Communication Awareness Developing Our Own Communication Tool The justification, the goal, the whys and what-ifs. Permissions to Interrupt Is it healthy, or reasonable? Not Having Little ‘Red Dot’ Notifications Waiting for You is Liberating It takes time to reset your expectations and definition of work vs busy work. You’re More Than a Response Machine Responding to notifications can feel productive, but it can kill creativity and progress by way of context switching. [0:20:09] Maybe There’s a Better Way Than Always On Training and Retraining Around Communication Expectations We have been conditioned to get notifications and respond immediately. The list of items that require immediate attention in your organization is MUCH smaller than you’re willing to admit. Retraining “I need to know right now” is the major hurdle. The vast majority of “need to know” items can be saved for when you explicitly choose to engage with your email, phone, etc. Be Willing to Shift Your Understanding of Urgent & Important You’re probably thinking: “But what if we have an emergency?” Here’s why it’s probably NOT an emergency. [0:24:50] We Tend to “Solve” Management Problems with Software The Bigger Problem: How and when you do, or do not, communicate with team members. Don’t Be Selfish Putting Out Little Fires Prevents You From Accomplishing the Meaningful [0:29:03] There Are Emergencies But they’re so much fewer than you think they are. Document and define emergencies, which details on how and when to respond. Clarity on what is actually an emergency is very important, but use emergencies sparingly. Don’t let tools dictate how you run your business. Slack is a perfect example of this. Why James won’t log into Slack anymore. [0:32:49] Closing Thoughts “We all need more margin.” “Slower and more intentional is usually better.” Next Time on AIB
Transformation VS Improvement. Improvement focuses on better whereas transformation focuses on different. Usually, improvement is focused on the perceived problems, and simply improving how we respond to the problem. Transformation on the other hand is focused on the vision of what could be and becoming the vision. There is a time a place for both transformation and improvement. To Transform or to Improve, That is The QuestionLike I said, there is a time and a place for both transformation and improvement. You get to decide where you are and what you need. You can achieve both through coaching, but it's up to you to know and understand what YOU want to be working on. How to Achieve Parenting TransformationStep #1 Start with Awareness This is my favorite place to start. Take some time to develop some awareness about where you are in your own personal growth. Become aware of what is going on around you and within you. Understand not only the what, but the why and the impact it is having on you. I see lots of people skipping this step. They want a transformation. They know they are not happy as they are, but they don't really take the time to deeply understand why. Become aware of what you CAN and CAN'T control, what you want to control and what you don't want to control, and what you're willing to control and what you're not willing to control. This awareness will help prepare you for step #2.For more on awareness checkout Episode 39, Awareness Before IntentionStep #2 Be Willing to Let Go of Things This step is huge! In fact, currently the biggest struggle that I see with the parents that I work with is their unwillingness to let go of things. And 99% of the time, the things parents have the hardest time letting go of are the things that aren't actually within their control. Be willing to let go of the things that you cannot control. Be willing to let go of things that are not your priority. We live in a world that has normalized trying to do E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. We end up doing so many things that we can't do any of them well. If it's not a priority, stop doing it. This step is key to getting a transformation! When you commit to doing less, you'll actually get way more done!Step #3 Be intentionalBeing intentional is vital to creating a parenting transformation. Being unintentional is likely what has created your current circumstance. Most of what we do is unintentional. By shifting into intention, you will change who you are BEing. To do this, really explore . . . WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE? WHAT ARE MY VALUES?WHAT ARE MY PRIORITIES?WHAT ARE THE RESULTS I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH AS A PARENT?This doesn't mean that you will magically be perfectly intentional. Learn from the times that you are living out of intention. Recommit to BEing the change that you want to see. Summer Is Perfect For TransformationI believe that summer time is actually a better time to achieve a transformation, especially for parents like you!Summer is only 2-3 months. You're not committing to a whole year like you did in January. It's doable. You've got this. Call to ACTION!Join our parenting membership. You can transform yourself as a parent, and we want to help. In today’s episode, we interview Lexy Thompson, author of the recently released book, The Power of a Graceful Leader. In the book, Lexy shares strategies to break through the ceiling that many leaders don’t want to face to reach higher levels of engagement and success. This ceiling involves deep, introspective work that demands a different mindset. Lexy lays out three common barriers that must be overcome to align who we are with how we lead. In this episode, Lexy lays out three common barriers that must be overcome to align who we are with how we lead. She uncovers the secrets of gratitude practice, the alignment of values with future goals, and several applicable tips for moving into “graceful leadership.” Components of Graceful LeadershipAfter decades of working with executives, Lexy has identified three barriers leaders face that feel like a leadership ceiling. You need to BE WILLING in order to be MADE ABLE. Let that sink in a little bit if at first it seems like an odd statement. God impressed upon my heart today that He needs ME to MAKE myself willing to go through the hard things, to be IN class for the lessons, to understand that it's only through the struggles that I can be made stronger. And once I'm made stronger in my faith in HIM, I'm able to handle more tests as I become stronger. All of this positions me for His blessings...even in weight loss! I hope this episode blesses you and again I do encourage you to consider if you should be listening to this podcast it you're NOT a current member of the Seeker's Method's Thinner Circle. Those of us who are bewildered by keeping the house under control can, sometimes, be scared of experimenting. Sometimes it’s because we have failed so many times before. We might feel the need to be TOTALLY and completely sure something is going to work so we don’t “waste time” on another strategy. Also, though, we […] The post 266: Be Willing to Experiment Podcast appeared first on A Slob Comes Clean.
Dr. Jan Willis, renowned scholar and teacher of Buddhism, talks about race and racism through a Buddhist lens. She shares stories about growing up with racism in Birmingham, Alabama; marching with Dr. Martin Luther King there in 1963; brushes with the Black Panthers; her experience as one of the first Westerners to dive deeply into Tibetan Buddhism; and how we can compassionately combat systemic racism and Anti-Blackness today.Dr. Willis has a distinguished career as a scholar and teacher of Buddhism that spans fifty years. She first met Tibetan Buddhists in India and Nepal when she was nineteen and went on to earn degrees in Philosophy and Indic and Buddhist Studies from Cornell and Columbia Universities. Dr. Willis has taught Buddhist Studies and Philosophy at UC Santa Cruz, the University of Virginia and Wesleyan University. Now in retirement, she teaches part-time at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia and leads workshops exploring Race and Racism through a Buddhist Lens. Her latest book is the compelling essay collection Dharma Matters: Women, Race, and Tantra. Dr. Willis’ unique personal story is captured in her memoir Dreaming Me: Black, Baptist, and Buddhist—One Woman’s Spiritual Journey. In crisp, moving words, Dreaming Me shares Dr. Willis’ experience as a Black woman raised in Birmingham, Alabama who suffered regular neighborhood raids by the Ku Klux Klan and who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King there in 1963. Her story takes incredible turns in brushes with the Black Panthers and as one of the first westerners to dive deeply into Tibetan Buddhist study and practice. Dr. Willis’ work has been praised by TIME Magazine as one of six “spiritual innovators for the new millennium,” and by Ebony Magazine, who named her one of its “Power 150” most influential African Americans. HerTrap / R&B version has made it through for the originality of her style. The song «Fallin’» is produced, written and performed by Nomi $hanya : «I’ve always been very philosophical. Thinking about what humanity is going through. This song is about that. I wrote it because I wanted to express my feelings. What is happening to this generation? To be more specific, this song is about Millennials and Gen Z. I’m worried about them, because they grew up with a lot of technology. Technology makes us smart, but is not necessarily healthy. So yes, we are smart people. But smart people are more likely to get expressed/unsatisfied». We need to learn how to really feel our emotions and be open for the world. Continuing our little series on the science of courage, how about some more wisdom from Robert Biswas-Diener? In The Courage Quotient, he tells us: “Herein lies the intervention related to failure: accept it. We modern people have fallen in love with the idea that we are in control of our lives, and this worldview gives rise to an impulse to resist failure, to fight against the very notion of it. But just like the modern trend to defy age, the battle against failure is a lost cause. Failure is inevitable. We all experience it, in forms large and small. It is in your past and it is in your future. People with a high courage quotient understand that failure is a risk much of the time and unavoidable some of the time. Rather than trying to tiptoe around failure, they simply accept it as part of the process of success.” That’s from a chapter called “Be Willing to Fail.” It’s packed with powerful, practical wisdom. Like this: “Failure is a fantastic learning opportunity. Think of every time you have made a mistake and said to yourself, ‘Well, I will never do that again!’ A single instance of failure can serve as a powerful lifelong course correction. Failure also helps us regroup mentally and improve our skills and strategy so that later attempts at goals might be more successful. Where your courage quotient is concerned, here is the tricky part: you do not have to accept that failure feels good, just that it is inevitable and often beneficial. Accepting failure is not synonymous with actively pursuing failure or enjoying failure when it crashes down upon you. The trick is to acknowledge both the positive and the negative aspects of failure. You can tell yourself, ‘This does not feel good and I am very disappointed with myself,’ on the one hand, even as on the other you reassure yourself by saying, ‘This is also a growth opportunity for me. I will learn from this temporary experience and move on.’” And this: “Where the courage quotient is concerned it is instructive to realize that not everyone reacts to failure, or even the prospect of failure, in the same way. Some people—as I have mentioned and as we have all seen—allow failure to overshadow their lives, restricting their decisions and leaving them embarrassed, timid, or withdrawn. Other people appear to take failure in stride and are able to move beyond it after experiencing its temporary psychological sting. Thomas Edison famously said, recalling countless problematic attempts to create a working light bulb, ‘I failed my way to success.’ Winston Churchill too might be among the resilient. He once said, ‘Success consists of going from failure to failure without the loss of enthusiasm.’ Apparently the ability to reframe failure as part of a larger process— learning, say—is instrumental in being able to cope with it.” And, well, that’s Today’s +1. Want to Optimize your Courage Quotient? Be willing to fail. And, reframe your past failures as fantastic learning opportunities. Then get out there and give us all the Wisdom + Self-Mastery + Courage + Love you got. TODAY.

He emerged as one of the biggest stars in the history of mixed martial arts, headlining over 15 main events and co-main events in the UFC and Pride Fighting Championships during the course of his career and set numerous pay-per-view records. Shamrock is widely considered to be a legendary figure and icon in the sport of mixed martial arts. Shamrock was named The World’s Most Dangerous Man by ABC News in a special entitled “The World’s Most Dangerous Things” in the early part of his UFC career, a moniker which has stuck as his nickname. Favorite Success Quote “You have no idea what I’m willing to do to get where I’m going.” Key Points 1. Be Willing to Do Whatever it Takes If you want to truly succeed in the most competitive environments then you must cultivate a “Whatever it Takes” mentality. This doesn’t mean that you are willing to engage in unethical or immoral activities, simply that you are willing to sacrifice, to hustle, and to grind your way through any challenge and any adversity. For those of you who are content to be in second place (and there’s nothing wrong with that), doing whatever it takes isn’t truly necessary. You can skate by, cut corners, take shortcuts, and still arrive at your destination. But if you want to be the best, the top 1%, a leader, mover, and shaker in your industry, then you must show up early, stay late, and outwork all of your competition. The price of admission is high, but the rewards are worth it. 2. You Have to Choose Yourself In business and in life, most people wait to be called on. Like a child being called on by the teacher instead of raising their hand, most people wait until life presents them with an opportunity or opens a door. If you want to play the game of life in the top echelon of society, then you need to find opportunities and kick the doors down yourself. Or as previous podcast guest James Altucher puts it, you must Choose Yourself. No one is going to give you the freedom, the career, or the lifestyle that you desire. If you are a man, then do what needs to be done and take it for yourself. Take massive action, take huge initiative and do the work. Because if you don’t… Someone else will. 3. If You Don’t Seize the Moment Someone Else Will Life is competition. Anyone who has even the most basic understanding of our species’ history and the story of evolution knows this. Although we live in a world filled with abundance and a plethora of resources, we also live in a world filled with fierce competition. And the most dangerous thing that you can do in your life, relationship, or career is to hesitate and allow someone else to seize your moment. Think about how many times you saw that pretty girl, had that business idea or wanted to make that change but you didn’t. You hesitated, you waited, and you procrastinated. But someone else didn’t. Someone else went up and introduced himself, someone else set up their LLC and took action on their idea, someone else made the change, reaped the rewards and enjoyed the spoils of their labor… But you didn’t. In each of our lives, we are presented with a small handful of pivotal moments where we must decide whether we will take action or not. It is in these moments that your destiny is shaped. Don’t allow someone else to shape it for you. Take action, seize the moment, and live the life you’ve always dreamed of. 4. Find Your “Person” If you continue down your current trajectory of personal and professional development, sometime in the future, you will arrive at a place in your life where you are surrounded by “Yes Men.” Your success and reputation will be so great that the people in your social circle will rarely tell you the truth and will, instead, try to tell you what they think you want to hear. This is one of the most dangerous places any man can be. You must find someone, whether a friend, relative, or coach who will tell you the truth all the time with compassion. You need someone in your life who will tell you when you are messing up, when you are on the right track, and when you need to shut up and get things done. Find your “Person” who will always be honest with you and you will find that your life will be a lot smoother and easier than it will when you operate on the opinions of impressed “friends”. 5. Slow Down and Be Patient Life is a marathon, not a sprint. It seems like our instant gratification society has lost touch with the realities of life and, the simple truth is that life is meant to be lived and experienced. Don’t be so eager to achieve great things that you forget to live your life and enjoy the journey. Be patient and allow success to happen in its own time and its own way.
This episode is part of the Coaching Business Checkup series. Show notes can be found at prosperouscoach.com/65.If you’re not attracting enough paying clients to sustain your business there could be several reasons why. The episodes in this series are designed to help you isolate what needs attention. But don’t let these errors move you to give up on your coaching business unless you’re truly done with the dream of being a successful coach and helping loads of people with your unique talents. To Succeed You Have to Be Willing to Flail and Fail A BitI encourage you to be willing to make mistakes and realize they don’t define the possibility of your future success.Jumping out there without strategy is a time honored mistake. Nearly everyone makes these mistakes if they are willing to risk success. On the other side of this is the person who does not risk anything and misses out on the chance to learn from their mistakes. And those are the folks who may regret staying in the safety zone. The Big Thing Holding You Back From Financial Success As A CoachFor this episode, I’m going to dig into the most common problem that holds coaches back from attracting enough clients and earning well: There’s not enough people inspired to invest in your services. You are no doubt talented, capable and truly effective as a coach. But that goes wasted if you can’t attract the attention of your audience and inspire them to invest. What can you do about that?Well, so many things! For now I’m focusing on one.Let’s say you have chosen a target audience and they are SEEKERS — people who do invest out their own pocket to grow personally and professionally. The next thing you do is to define your niche, right? And this is the place where you might be inclined to totally wimp out. I did when I started. It’s partly because fresh out of coaching training there’s still this glow about the value of coaching that can blind you to effective ways to attract paying clients. Have you romanticized the notion of coaching that you believe people know they want it?Most people don’t think about coaching as a solutions. That’s why coaching is a hard sell. So, at this starry-eyed moment in time instead of niching down, you niche widely or niche weakly.Niching wide is choosing a broad coaching audience and naming an overarching abstract outcome. I help women create a more fulfilling life. OR I help business owners become successful.Another way to wimp out in your niche is to simply identify your track. I’m a career coach. I’m a leadership coach. I’m a life coach.I’ve seen many coaches list all or several coaching tracks on their websites. The lack of specialty does just the opposite of what the coach hoped — it turns potential clients away because they see a lack of commitment and focus. And example of niching weakly is focusing on coaching topics as the specialty.I’m a confidence coach. I’m an empowerment coach. I help you breakthrough limiting beliefs.I don’t think people wake up in the middle of the night and say to themselves ... you know what I need? I need a coach to help me breakthrough limiting beliefs. If you want help identifying your audience’s big problem and developing a smart business foundation that attracts ideal clients, reach out at: https://prosperouscoachblog.com/work-with-rhonda

Kim Coates is a Canadian-American actor who has worked in both Canadian and American films and television series. He has worked on Broadway portraying Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire and in the lead role of Macbeth performed at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. He also starred as Alexander “Tig” Trager in the FX series Sons of Anarchy. Key Points 1. Follow Your Bliss Life is too short to live every day doing things that you dislike. If you love something, do it, end of story. If you want to be an actor, act. If you want to be a musician, play music. If you want to start a business, do it! Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back from pursuing what you love. Follow your bliss, and the rest will fall into place. 2. Be Willing to Wait Until You Are Ready Once you have committed to a path, whether it is business, acting, athletics etc. be willing to wait until you are ready to take the big leap. For Kim, he continued to master his craft of acting on stage for 8 years before he took the leap into television. For you, it may mean working an apprenticeship for a few years before you start your business, it may mean playing local gigs with your band for a few years before you quit your job and try touring. Don’t rush things. Excellence takes time. 3. Failure is Not an Option Success is simple, you simply have to remove the possibility of failure from your mind. When failure is no longer an option, success is inevitable. Once you have started following your bliss and prepared yourself for the leap, it is time to burn your boats and leave yourself no choice but to succeed. Whether that is moving to a new city, quitting your job, or investing all of your dispensable cash into a business, when you give yourself no way out, you will succeed. 4. Keep Your Head on Straight Once you start to see success, it is easy to let it go to your head. You have to be diligent in making sure that you keep your head on straight. Stay away from the masses living the rock star lifestyle who will end up ruining their career within a few short years. If you want longevity in whatever path you select, you have to continually grow and avoid things that are detrimental to your public image and success. 5. A Real Man Listens More and Talks Less You were given two ears and one mouth for a reason, use them in that proportion.

Tamara K. Anderson interviews her children and husband on the Stories of Hope in Hard Times podcast. They talk about how their lives have been changed for the better because of two sons with autism. Lessons, advice, tips and love shared. The Anderson Family: One Family’s Perspective on AutismAnderson family BioJustin (old) according to the kids. Husband to Tamara for 22 and a half years, and father to four amazing children.Jordan, age 21. College student majoring in Elementary Education. One of my typical kids.Nathan, age 20. Mostly non-verbal kiddo on the autism spectrum. We talk about Nathan on our podcast, but he doesn’t comment (mostly because he would just echo back whatever we said).Jacob, age 16. Jacob is an amazing kid that has high-functioning autism. He just learned to drive last year and is attending high school.Noelle, age 14. Noelle is our only girl and she is an amazing “second mother” to the group of boys. She is also in high school and is my other “typical” child. What was it like to grow up with two brothers on the autism spectrum?Jordan: It was a learning experience. They didn’t grow up doing “normal” activities. He noticed that he couldn’t interact the same with his brothers as other brothers that he saw. He dreamed of playing catch with his brother or wrestling with his brother, but Nathan didn’t want to do those kinds of social interactions. When Jacob came along he was able to finally grow into doing some of these things as he got older.Jordan explains that he had to learn to interact with Nathan differently. He learned how to show him that he loved him without a reaction. One interesting thing is that Jordan has always been extremely social and he wanted to tackle and interact with Nathan (who didn’t always appreciate that). I often felt when they were little like I was always playing referee. But looking back I realize that was probably the best thing for Nathan, because he had someone constantly inviting him to interact in the “real” world instead of always staying in “autism’s world.”Jordan is not intimidated by children with special needs, and he believes this is one of the blessings of growing up with brothers on the autism spectrum. As he is studying Elementary Education, Jordan looks at each child differently and he knows, he “can work with them.” He concludes he has a baseline because he has two amazing brothers with autism. He feels he has been guided to this major so that he can help children with all different kinds of needs. What is it like to have autism? What goes on inside your mind, and what makes you different from other kids?Jacob: The problem is learning to relate the “autism world” to the real world. “I don’t know what the normal world is like. All my life I’ve been living just being me.”Jacob is now fully integrated into regular high school. He didn’t always used to be able to handle this, but has grown to this point. One thing that is important to explain is that there is this real draw or pull to click over to the autism world in his mind or what we call “Imaginations” in our home.ImaginationsWhen I asked Jacob what he is thinking about when he does his “Imaginations” he answered that it is kind of a wild card. He explains that he can’t just think of one thing because that would be boring. So, he thinks of lots of things, but he can’t always control where his mind wanders. Sometimes he thinks of recent video games he has played, and creating off-stories in his mind. He also likes to imagine what would happen after the end of a book he has just read or the story before the book begins. Basically prequels, sequels and stuff like that. That is one of the cool things about having Jacob in our home is that he often thinks outside the box. When he was little he crafted these amazingly creative Super Jacob-man comic books that were so fun to read. He made the illustrations for them and everything. Jordan remembers having Jacob read him those comic books and helping him create the characters and then just watching the story come alive.Super-PowersI think every child has a super-power. Some of Jacob’s super-powers are learning math or numbers and dates. When he was little we would randomly ask him when people were born or when they died and he would tell us. It was pretty cool. So, this means he does well in history as well. Another of Jacob’s super-powers is music. He can memorize songs much more easily than most kids. Noelle has also noticed how easily Jacob memorizes long classical pieces after only playing through them a few times. She admits she wishes she could do that too:). I think we all do.“Kids with autism and normal kids have their own super-powers. You just have to find them.”NathanNoelle enjoys interacting with Nathan because he is so pure and he isn’t distracted by things in the world. Some of the things that make him happy are “drop pillow” when you drop a pillow on him and tickle him. Jordan adds that doing “Star Wars” where you do the Darth Vader’s breathing and then tickle him. He then laughs with this big gut laugh that is so contagious.Nathan is like a giant 2-3 year old child, but he outweighs all of us and he is taller than all of us, well, maybe Jacob is slightly taller than him now.It is nice that Nathan now has some very simple words or phrases to ask for certain things. He definitely lets you know if there is something that he doesn’t want by saying, “all done,” “no,” or “go home.”A Nathan StoryFor example, recently we took the family to go watch Captain Marvel. This requires a little bit of tricky planning. We always get seats on the very back row of the theater and we always seat Nathan in the corner. This way he can play on his iPad (with the screen turned all the way down) and not distract anyone.Anyway, on the way to the movies he let us know, “No movie. Go home.” We tried simple reasoning (with a little bribery). “First movie, then Walmart?” NO! “First movie, then DI?” (DI is a local thrift store where Nathan likes buying used DVDs). Yes! So, he happily walked into the theater and then I took him to DI afterwards. We didn’t used to be able to reason with him, so it is nice to have hit this point.Changing schedules with these kids is challenging. They do well with visual schedules and so we usually have to write things down to let them know what we are doing. Jacob comments that spontaneous surprises are very hard for him as well, and it bugs him.A Spontaneous Story–And Why that Doesn’t WorkI shared the example of spontaneously buying tickets to go see the Lego movie while my kids were at school. After I picked them up I told them we were going straight to the movie. Jacob freaked out about this saying, “This is not what we do after school. First we go home and have a snack and then we do our homework.” So, basically I had to try to reason with him and help him try to get past the change to even allow us to go. After the movie when I asked him if he liked it he answered, “Yes, but next time we have to follow the schedule.”So, spontaneity with these kiddos is very challenging. Jordan says he is very spontaneous too, so Jacob and Nathan act as a counterbalance for the spontaneousness in our home. This is going to look different in different families and from child to child. So, each family is unique. When I ask the kids how they feel about our family being talked about in my book, Normal for Me, Jordan answers that he is glad that we can share our story and spread more light. It is important for people to get a look at how autism impacts families and how we incorporate God in our family as well.Jordan goes on to say that he hopes this will help people see that children with autism do have super-powers and they have desires and hopes just like typical children. What are some of Nathan’s Super-Powers?Noelle shares that Nathan is really gifted at doing puzzles. Most people take their time with a 500 piece puzzle, but Nathan can crank it out in about 2 hours.Jacob adds that another of Nathan’s super-powers is doing word-searches. He does them on his iPad but he will also crank through an entire word search book in about a day. But he has to circle the words in the order in which they are liste. I have to buy word search books at the 99 cent store because we go through them quite quickly. So, Nathan can see patterns in puzzles and in words and letters more easily than the rest of us. Those are his super-powers.The Kids Favorite Bible VersesNoelle–Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” Noelle likes this verse because it helps us remember that we are in God’s hand and that He can help us, and He knows what we are going through. He is always there.Jordan–Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”Story behind the verseJordan was at a point in his life where things were challenging and this verse taught him that I can’t do this, but if I rely on God, He can pull me through it.” The more we give ourselves to Him the more He can guide us to where He needs us to go. He still feels God prompting him and guiding him even in college.Jordan explains that some people think of God as a puppeteer, but Jordan sees us more as a Pinocchio. We can choose where we want to go, but it is good sometimes to let go and let God guide us.This is often hard to do when God is putting you on a path that you don’t want to go on, like I describe in the Normal for Me book, when my kids were diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Trusting God at those times is hard, but we do learn a lot. One of the phrases I coined at that point in my life is “Two people can do anything if one of them is God.”Jacob–Matthew 5:14-16 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”To Jacob this means that it is important to share your talents. Going into Junior high this was hard for him because his friends seemed to outgrow his comic books and it became a little harder for him to fit in socially.Social Interaction ChallengesSocial interactions are often more challenging with kiddos on the autism spectrum–and it seems to be more challenging for the higher functioning kids. Lower functioning kids like Nathan don’t really care if they socialize or not, so it has never been a big deal for him. But the older Jacob got the harder it got for him to socialize, know what to say, or how to talk to others.Jacob confesses that sometimes he just can’t think of words to say.Jacob’s AdviceThe advice Jacob would give to parents and other teens is to “be patient” with kids on the autism spectrum. They need love too and are often lonely. Don’t be afraid to help kids with autism out and be a friend.Another tip: Kids on the spectrum are usually pretty honest–there isn’t much of a filter that goes on between what they think and what they say. They will tell you if you do indeed “look fat in that dress” (whether they should or not).Jacob’s Advice to Parents of Teens on the SpectrumHelp your kids practice social things like getting someone’s phone number, asking a friend if they want to hang out, how to text properly.Noelle’s adviceBe nice to kids on the autism spectrum and try not to be super-sarcastic. The reason for this is they often don’t always understand sarcasm. They are sometimes very literal.Jordan chimes in that he likes to think of kids with autism like Drax on Guardians of the Galaxy. Sarcasm goes right over their heads.Final thoughts from Jordan“Be patient with these kids. They are not kids with autism. They are kids with super-powers. Just like in the movies, sometimes the superheroes get attacked.”Jordan has been doing some classroom observations this semester at an elementary school. There is a sweet girl with autism in one of his classes and she has a wonderful aide that is so patient with her. When Jordan asked the aide what got her into this field, she said, “I see potential in all of these kids.”“If we give these kids chances to change the world, they will.” Often that change is in our own world. My final comments: “Having children with autism has changed me for the better.”Interview with my Husband, JustinJustin’s advice for parents of children with autismYou are in for a different life that perhaps you had planned. There will be challenges, but there will also be some really great things as well. Having kids on the spectrum can be something that will bring you closer to your spouse as you let it. It can also help you find a different level of love and patience than you naturally had. Some of the Lessons Learned in Hard TimesDifferent people process diagnosis differently. Justin was more quick to acknowledge there was something wrong with Nathan while I lived in denial for a little longer. I was terrified of an autism diagnosis. Justin was more terrified as he realized life was going to be different. You will go through the stages of grief. There is also anger. I felt anger. Justin felt cheated out of experiences he was going to have with his son. He felt very sad. When expectations have been changed by diagnosis it is hard to envision a clear future.Take things day by day and week by week. Hold on to hope because these kids are amazing! Some of the Things Justin Learned from our Children with Autism1. We are children of God. When Nathan has had hard times and we have had to just hold him and pray, God has opened Justin’s mind to see what a special person Nathan really is. There is a big, strong, manly and faithful spirit inside of his body and his disability simply impairs his mind, but it is not who he is.2. Knowing who your child really is as a son or daughter of God, helps you to have a different level of patience, love, kindness and understanding. This is who they will be forever.3. These kids are not their disabilities.4. Pray for this gift from God to see your child from a more eternal perspective.“Heaven is close when you are on your knees in a really hard spot.”Another lesson: Be Willing to Try New Things and Support your SpouseI was the more aggressive in wanting to try new things with Nathan. Justin was supportive. Sometimes we found things that worked, and other times we ruled out things that didn’t work.Advice for Dads Ask what you can do to help and keep on trying. The work you are doing is so important and needs a father’s strength and support to accomplish it. This is not a one-person job. If you aren’t pulling your weight, then it is time to step up and be a man. This means talking, listening, offering support, and doing things with your child that are different from what you expected.Help your spouse. They need someone to talk to.Justin subscribes to a Google wordsearch for “autism” each day. This pulls up any articles that come up on autism. This helps him to see what is going on.Join Facebook pages. Sometimes all you can do is listen and offer encouragement, but that is good enough sometimes.Give your spouse a “break” and help.It is also really important to note that full-time caretakers need breaks. If they don’t have a spouse to help them, then they need to get some kind of respite. This is often available through government programs.Justin’s Favorite Bible VerseIsaiah 12:2 “Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”This verse means that having Jesus Christ in your life is the only way you are going to be able to accomplish anything. It also means that He will give you strength to be the parent of a special needs child who needs your care.“God is strong enough there to help us moment by moment as we learn to parent different children differently.”
Jesus is asking you and I, adopted sons and daughters of our heavenly father by virtue of oyr baptism, to go out harvest the juicy fruits in the garden of God- bring the peace, love, mercy and compassion of God to our world, countries, communities & families.

*PODCAST REPEAT* As the doors of 2019 fly wide open, Danielle and Ani are hitting the ground running! BMS University and Mastermind are off to a strong start as the entire crew takes steps to build a strong foundation and an unstoppable team of Elite Artists. The driving message in this week’s conversation is to just jump in and go! Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..Power Point #1: Choose In Ani is beyond excited for the changes taking place inside of BMS and has been conducting back-to-back interviews for those applying to the newly revamped Mastermind program. “It’s so cool to see how proud they are after all of their hard work, dedication, and everything they have accomplished. It wasn’t a matter of them paying a fee and showing up; they earned their place in Mastermind.” QUESTION What have you worked really hard to accomplish? How does it make you feel? Point #2: State of Overwhelm Danielle believes that when you’re in a place of feeling burned out or stagnant, one of two things usually needs to happen: either decrease business or increase business. “Both places can be really scary to be in. A lot of times, people a) don’t know where to start or b) they start brain scheming this far out path that overwhelms them. QUESTION What are some choices you can make today to begin moving forward? Point #3: The Power of “B” Danielle: If you don’t know the things you need to change, then going over the facts is one thing you can do. Every time you do that, you discover things that you can improve upon. Start there and then just keep taking the next step. “The power is in the“B” because that means you started. When you start something and are consistent with it, you never know where it can actually take you.” QUESTION Where in your world do you know you need to take that “next step” but have been putting it off? Point #4: Be Willing to Fail Ani has always been one to accept a challenge from Garrett and Danielle. From the very beginning, she has jumped in, no matter what, and recalls a moment when she failed miserably but learned a huge lesson. The ladies both agree that anything you do that you haven’t done before, you’re going to suck at it. The fact that you’re actually doing it says a lot about you. QUESTION What is one lesson you have learned because you were willing to fail? Point #5: Focus on the Basics Danielle: You can’t be given a big break when you’re not ready. You don’t get there overnight; you have to become that person and that character. Everybody wants these big breaks but you really just need to simmer down and focus on the basics first. If you can’t consistently do the small things, you can’t expect to do the big things. QUESTION Where in your world is it time to return to the basics? Quotes of the Week “Take each step as it comes, and you’ll figure things out as you go. Stop trying to have a map of how you’re going to do it all.” — Danielle White “You can never find anything beautiful or amazing, and you’ll never find your place if you don’t start doing something.” –Anianne Rivera
No Sale is SafeJust because someone has agreed to buy from you doesn't mean the sale is “in the bag”. I've had CEOs agree to purchase $250,000 consulting packages from us and then lost the sale later on because their CFO or someone from the Board of Directors didn't like the deal. Those kinds of losses really hurt.Today I spoke with Cullen, whose job is to advise businesses and CEOs on large purchases, hires, and consulting contracts before they sign on the dotted line. Before that, Cullen was in sales. So he has been involved in thousands of large deals from both sides of the table. I brought him on the show today to talk about what he looks for in a deal before he will approve it and what red flags cause him to stop and pump the brakes.Show You Can Handle the HeatThe first thing Cullen does is apply a bit of pressure to the sales rep to see if they can handle it. He wants to gain an understanding of how they perform when the stakes start to go up. “I can usually tell within a few seconds if someone can take the pressure” he told me. How can you be sure to pass these kinds of tests? We cover that in depth on this episode.Be Willing to Adjust Your TimelineAnother big issue for Cullen is the timeline of the project. He often asks the sales rep what would happen if he needed to speed up the timeframe or slow it down. What aspects of the proposal could be adjusted to change the delivery schedule? If you can't talk intelligently about this, you immediately look like an amateur. Cullen and I provide some helpful strategies on this episode that will allow you to answer this question in a smart way.Demonstrate a Next-Level UnderstandingIt's also important to show the buyer that you understand how your product or service will fit into the core focus of their business. You need to demonstrate an overall perspective on the organization instead of just being a hammer that is looking for a nail. We cover a few scripts that work for this and I'll show you the strategies I use in my own business.

The Accountability Minute:Business Acceleration|Productivity
Today we are talking about the 4th tip to communicate effectively with clients – which is to Be Willing to Ask Questions. Action Step: Be very clear from the beginning in service agreements and contracts. Over the past 4 days we explored Tips to Communicate Effectively with Clients. Take one or more of these ideas and implement them to help you accelerate your results. As the doors of 2019 fly wide open, Danielle and Ani are hitting the ground running! BMS University and Mastermind are off to a strong start as the entire crew takes steps to build a strong foundation and an unstoppable team of Elite Artists. The driving message in this week’s conversation is to just jump in and go! Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week's Episode.....Power Point #1: Choose In Ani is beyond excited for the changes taking place inside of BMS and has been conducting back-to-back interviews for those applying to the newly revamped Mastermind program.

You know who you are out there. You’ve got the brain power, you’ve got the looks, you’ve got the physique and you’ve got the charisma. I only wish I had the same raw potential; there’s an embarrassment of riches lurking right below the surface. The world is at your feet and you don’t even know it. All you need to do is get out of your own damn way and Greatness is Right There for the Taking. Take an afternoon and design the ideal you. Start the process that will change it all. Pull from deep in your core and put down into words who you would like to become in 2 years. Imagine what the Creator Himself would want. Keep it simple and make it a bullet point list if necessary. Ask yourself who you could be in 730 days if you went all out; if you made it your number one priority to become the very best you could be; if you cast all other concerns aside and worked to become a better man at the end of each day, than you were when you rolled out of bed that morning. No More Zero Days. Two years is long enough to make some serious gains and yet short enough to take on as a challenge. And from there you can take stock and then do it again. Except this time you’ll have a hardened core and even more Force of Purpose. Never mind the past and never mind anyone else. Let go of the emotional attachment to your past mistakes. Learn from them, but let the negative energy go; it is of no value. You do have this choice. Make this decision and it will set you free. And never mind about anyone else. Focus on yourself. Have the courage to Be Your Own Man. In the end it will set you apart. Bear down one day at a time and thrill yourself with sheer will and determination. You know it’s in there. Harness that energy and make everyday life your playing field. You Can Do More and you will develop the capacity. Just focus on the present moment with an eye on the ideal you and the calendar will do the rest. It’s no more complicated than that. Pursue excellence in what a man can control—excellence in mind, health and money. Drill down on all three and Overwhelm Your Circumstances one day at a time. Read and write to develop your mind. Besides your Soul there is nothing more powerful that you possess. Take advantage of the best time ever to be alive and learn from the smartest in the world. Make it a habit to read every day; even if only for ten minutes. And then once in a while write down a few words about what it is you are thinking. As simple as it sounds it will help you to formulate and clarify your thoughts even further. Putting your thoughts to paper or screen will sharpen your mind and give you an advantage over those too lazy to do so; Be Willing to Do What Most Men Won’t. Lift and sprint. Work with the physical gifts that God gave you and use them a tool to harden your character and manifest a powerful physical presence. No need to go overboard here, alternate between lifting and cardio every other day. Developing your physique will add tremendous benefits to your life, both personally and socially. Personally, it’s hard to let much affect you when you walk around as a superior physical specimen. And socially, people are naturally attracted to a hardened man of obvious physical discipline. They can sense and are naturally drawn to his exceptional, raw energy. Next in the queue is to Cash Flow Every Month, regardless of what it is you do or how much you make. Take control of your money and spend less than you earn. It’s no more complicated than that. Even $100 a month can add up to a seven figures over a man’s work life. Have this be your ace in the hole no matter what happens. Always put some money away and cash flow every month. Pursue excellence in all three of these areas—mind, health, money—and do the same at work. Let excellence pervade all that you do until it becomes instinct. Use your work as an exercise to sharpen your edge. Bleed excellence into every hour of every day.

Takeaways People are Creatures of Habit: Quit spending your mental energy trying to figure out when your prospects are more apt to respond or engage with you. Just like you have a routine, so do they. They likely get out of bed around the same time, commute into the office at the same time, and guess what — respond to emails and phone calls at the same time of day. Look for those patterns and learn to strike while the iron is hot. Practice Genuine Empathy: A lot of people talk about empathy, but most don’t practice it. What does it mean to truly understand a prospect's challenges? Without trying to sell anything, sit down with a few of your ideal prospects and let them teach you. Ask them what industry struggles they’re having right now? Ask them how they are personally measured on initiatives. Ask them how they are compensated for success. These small nuggets can turn into a pile of gold. Be Willing to Walk Away: As excited as you are about what you sell, it’s not for everyone — at least not right away. Give your prospect the space to say “no,” but make sure you get permission to say “no” yourself if it’s the right thing to do. “No” doesn’t mean never and by leaning into that notion, you’ll create a level of trust most reps never get. Be Willing to Make Big Mistakes Failure Can Make You a Success Power Episode#364 - Albert Einstein once said, “Something good always comes out of a failure or a great mistake.” On Designing Your Life Today, Pat Council shares a different perspective on why you must be willing to make big mistakes if you want to achieve big. As this year winds down, taking a look at the mistakes you may be stressing over is a good thing. Today’s podcast explains why, it is exciting to open your mind and see all of who you are, so you can achieve more. Sometimes we let our ego convince us that we must be perfect or that we must be afraid of making a mistake. Mistakes are a part of achieving, because it is a part of the learning process. We have been taught since we were children that mistakes are bad. As you listen to Designing Your Life Today, you will discover why perceived failure can make you a success. This show will help you to open your mind and be willing to make big mistakes, so you can stretch and achieve your goals. Think about the goals you did not achieve this year and examine what really happened.
My beloved ones, don’t ever limit your joy or fail to rejoice in the wonderful experience of knowing our Lord Jesus! I don’t mind repeating what I’ve already written you because it protects you. (Philippians 3:1, Passion Translation) Jesus said, “If you truly want to follow Me, you should at once completely DISOWN your own life. And you must BE WILLING to share MY CROSS and experience My cross as your own…” (Mark 8:34, Passion Translation) Repeat: re = again; petere (petition) = ask for, head for, aim at, strive after, search for. Three reasons you something repeated: You want to get it right. Ex. NFL replay booth. You enjoyed an experienced. You want to get better at doing something.

Today, we get to interview another “everyday woman” and hear how God is working in her life. Sara spends the next 30 minutes chatting with her personal friend, Jeni Canaan, and how over the last year she has had to learn to have a “palms-up” kind of willingness. Life was going ok and she was in a good rhythm, though it was busy and full of challenges. And then she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, causing her life to turn upside town. But not only did her life get twisted, her faith did as well. She wrestled with God and asked faith challenging questions like “God where are you?” She even wrestled with that tricky question when life gets crazy “God do you love me?” A year later and many lessons in, Jeni has been able to move beyond the hurt and worry of her experience, and has landed in a new space in her life. As a mover and a shaker, her career has been of utmost importance in her life. Now, she has decided to step away and take some time to Be Still! Not only that, her experience has opened up a whole new and somewhat scary place where she doesn’t have it all figured out. But this she knows -- God is good. He DOES love us. and all things can work together for good. she continues to live in a palm-up kinda fashion instead of closed fist. What will her next step be? She has no idea. But that’s okay! She is WILLING! For more resources, make sure to visit www.bestillbefree.com. You can also find us at www.facebook.com/bestillbefree, www.twitter.com/bestillbefree. The roles we play in everyday life are often unnoticed, overlooked, forgotten, deemed inconsequential, considered frivolous, of no great value or that they have nothing significant to contribute – and yet, what we are willing to draw up out of the water just might be the catalyst that brings freedom to an entire nation (or generation). In this week’s episode, we dive into the life of Pharaoh’s daughter, and how even though we only get 5 verses of her story, God uses the core of who she is to bring about the greatest story of freedom in the old testament! Mary, the mother of the one true King! What an amazing task to be chosen by God the mother the Son of Man…to give birth to Him as well as raise Him for God’s will. Can you imagine raising your son knowing that He will one day give His life so that others might live? One would think this women to be of noble blood (which Mary was coming from the line of King David but all nobility had been lost in the years since David’s rule), she would be educated, well to-do, somebody. But instead, God chose a peasant girl whom not much is knows of. She lived in the poor and nothing town of Nazareth and was young…very young. But the one thing that Mary did have that was measured above all else was her willingness. She was willing to be chosen to do God’s will even when it meant she might loser her upcoming marriage and reputation. She was willing even though she had nothing to really offer this King. She was willing even though she was young and had not even really experienced life. How about you? Are you willing? This poses an interesting question to me, because although I would like to think I am willing, when it comes down to it I’m not sure. Honestly speaking we have to be faithful in the little things to be entrusted with the big things. The little things…do I spend time with God daily? Do I love others like I should? Do I make just choices? Things that should be daily and just a part of who I am. Could I have kept the secret of who Jesus was until it was His time? So many questions with unanswered questions. But this I do know…it doesn’t matter because Mary already did it. She offered her life to serve God. Her faith in her heart made her strong enough to grow Jesus in her womb. And she never left His side even that day on the cross. Mary was not worried about position or recognition but willingness and obedience. How beautiful is she? EPISODE 20 – Being Committed to the Plan “There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses - only results.” ―Kenneth H. Blanchard It amazes me how many people don't get past the decision that they know that they need to make a change. Some people are only interested in making a change but do not want to put together a plan of action to really make that change become reality. Commitment is the feeling of dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity, or job; to be wholeheartedly dedicated. Commitment is important in any form of success. You will want to ensure that you have listened to Episode 19-Be Willing to Sacrifice for Success. How bad do you want what you say you want? Have you been talking about doing something or are you ready and committed to making a plan of action and to follow through? Get Your Mind Right. First of all, you need to believe you can do it when you believe that you can accomplish something you will persevere when tough times come upon you. Interest is talking about getting into shape; commitment is getting up and going to the gym regularly. Interest is surfing the Internet or researching information about a topic; commitment is about creating content and publishing it. Interest is buying a book on financial management; commitment is reviewing your numbers, tracking your spending, and implementing what you have read. Have you noticed the difference between interest and commitment? Interest is a passive activity; whereas, commitment is active. Commitment is about taking action and getting results. We can slip into the habit of interest very easily. If we look at the different areas of our lives, we might notice that some areas were more committed at certain times than we are at others. I was taken back recently as I was sharing many of the accomplishments and the growth of the podcast with a friend. She knows that I'm a big dreamer and I would like to accomplish so many more things. And then she posed the question, “Why are you stalling?” “Why are you holding yourself back?” She caught me off guard but at the same time, I had a moment of clarity. “Why wasn't I taking the actions steps I knew I needed to do?” I told myself that I have competing priorities. I had to remind myself where my greatest return on investment would be. If there is one thing I could be doing right now that would make the biggest difference, why wasn't I doing it? I had no excuse. I knew what I needed to do. I came home that evening and completed the paperwork that I needed to do to put the closure of something I had been delaying and to move forward direction. I contracted a freelancer to do some graphic design work for my speaker one sheet that I kept telling myself I had to edit. I stayed up till 3 AM because when you that I needed to get this done once and for all. No excuses! I made it a priority. I texted my friend and her with a response was awesome! It is interesting to me how others can see which you need to do but sometimes when you're so close to what your goal is for whatever reason you fail to see it. That is why it is important to surround yourself with people who support you and want to help you achieve your goals. When I was sharing this story with a mutual friend, she stated the same thing which reinforced to me that these new actions needed to be taken. My next question was: Do I truly believe the thoughts I have been having? No…so why should I hang on to the belief? Do what you need to do and see what happens? The “yes” you have been waiting for could be closer than you think. Sometimes we think that we need to be at a certain level of knowledge, fitness, or finances to be credible or believe that others will value what we have to say. You already know enough, you are perfect the way you are,
Episode 19 – Be Willing to Make Sacrifices for Success “Success is like anything worthwhile. It has a price. You have to pay the price to win and you have to pay the price to get to the point where success is possible. Most important, you must pay the price to stay there.” Vince Lombardi Many people want what success will give them. For some people, it is the fancy cars, luxury homes, exotic vacations, stylish clothing, or dining experiences. For others, success is owning their own home or having the ability to send their children to college. You must define what success means to you. You will hear people talking about success and what they are going to achieve. There are only a few who will be willing to pay the price. What? There is a price for success? Let me reframe this for you; there are critical choices you must make to reach success. “You do not pay the price of success; you enjoy the price of success.” Zig Ziglar Many people want success. You will notice that few are willing to make the commitment, investment, and sacrifices to achieve great success. You have to be willing to be committed for the long haul and know that you need to make short-term sacrifices to get there. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone You will have to step out of your “comfort zone” that sense of security to try new things, gain more knowledge, and even take some risks. Your comfort zone is a familiar place. You know what to expect and things are pretty good where they are but not great. You do not want to rock the boat and disrupt what you have going on. The only problem is that it is predictable and does not stretch you. You no longer anticipate what your efforts will give you because you already know. Maybe you have thought about change but are fearful of failing. If you never fail in this world, you are playing so safe, you will not learn and grow and become the person that you've been meant to be. Imagine what life would be like if you if you could wake up each day anticipating and being excited about what you get to do and how much you get to stretch yourself into who you need to be. What I notice is people don't want to raise their standards or make the sacrifices. They want the easy path. Another excuse I have heard is that I'm too busy. “Busy” is the buzzword of society but I don't believe when people say that they're busy that there truly being productive they may be filling their time with a number of other things. We make time for what is important to us. When we say we're too busy, it means we don't care or somebody or something is not important to us. I've even heard people say success is too expensive why should I even bother. If you really want something, you will do what it takes to be, do, or have it. Some of the sacrifices you may need to make are: Spending less time watching television or socializing. I know for the business owners who are into networking you may be alarmed but I want you to consider for a moment are you socializing just to go out and have drinks and eat or you being selective in your social activities to network and build relationships. I've been to a number of networking events where many are just there to socialize and they're not being intentional. Could you be spending this extra time working on yourself by developing new skills or gaining more knowledge? Cut back on eating out. Could you be making meals at home versus eating out frequently? Look around your home there are probably several things around you that you could do without. De-clutter and sell things off. Consider selling some of the things to help you invest in yourself. If you're married and have a family, share your dreams with other people and talk about the sacrifices that may need to be made to accomplish your dream. Don't forget to find out what others dreams are so that you can help support them as well because as you support them they will support you. When those sacrifices come up and everyone is focused...

I got this topic from a question that I read in Gary Vaynerchuk’s recent book, #AskGaryVee. The question was this: “What’s the best way to grow a following or community from nothing?”For some people, an audience means ad revenue. For some people, it means enough people to buy your product or work to support you. Some people just want the attention because they feel empty inside and need to feel like people love them. Hey, I get it, I’m not judging. I love feeling loved. So how do you grow a following from nothing? That’s what I'm exploring in this week's episode.Key TakeawaysIf you want to grow a following, put out quality content every day and engage around it. – Gary VaynerchukIf you want to be known for something, spend more time talking about it publicly and less time talking about other things. If you’re not solving a clear problem with your podcast, then it’s going to be difficult to get people to pay attention.Talking with people online can be time consuming, but that’s how you build an audience in the beginning; one person at a time. Two great ways to build an audience for your podcast; invite people to come on your show, and be a guest on other related podcasts.Putting out average content on an average schedule will get you average results. – Ed WilliamsI’m going to share with you what Gary Vaynerchuck said first, because I think it’s a simple answer that is absolutely the truth.“If you want to grow a following, put out quality content every day and engage around it.” – Gary VaynerchukIt sounds simple, but it’s not actually that easy. Let's break it down a little further. The outline looks like this:1. Create contentHave an idea or something valuable to shareCommunicate that idea with some tool medium (writing, podcasting, video, public speaking)Learn the tool or medium, get better at it, create more content2. Engage Around That ContentAsk for comments or feedbackRespond to comments or feedbackMake more content in response to that feedback3. Build Your CommunityDefine your audienceInvite people to come on your showBe a guest on other people’s showsIntroduce your audience members to each other and foster connectionsLet’s dive in and explore each of these steps.1. Creating ContentJeremiah asked: How do you make sure that you’re targeting the right audience?Know What You Want to Be Known For, and Be All About That ThingIt’s easier for people to understand you when you’re all about one thing. If you’re all about virtual reality and that’s all you talk about, write about, and publish podcast episodes about, when someone in your audience has a friend who wants to learn about VR, they’re gonna send them to you.If you want to be known for something, spend more time talking about it publicly and less time talking about other things.Gary Vee said you should be putting out valuable content every day and engaging around it. And while he’s right, daily output is very hard. If you can’t put out something every day, then at least try to share something valuable related to your topic everyday. Curate the valuable content you come across.Be Patient – Growing an Audience Takes YearsIn the beginning, you’re going to struggle with knowing what content to put out and how to use the tools available to put it out there. It’s easy to say “I’m going to put out a video or a podcast every day”, but things get a little harder once you actually pick up a camera and or sit down to record. You have to think about things like, “Should I write a script? Where do I shoot the video? What about intros and outros, what about microphones, what about hosting?”There are so many things to learn when it comes to any kind of content creation, so be patient and don’t give up when you hit a roadblock. Buy books. Watch webinars and youtube tutorials. Buy online courses. Learn the tools and get comfortable with using them to create stuff.Stop Focusing on Numbers and Start Focusing on QualityInstead of asking “How do get more people to check out my show?”, you should be asking, “How do I make a show that more people will be interested in checking out?”Can you see the difference there? It’s subtle, but it exists. Worrying about numbers will not get you more listeners, but figuring out ways to make your podcast better will.If you’re just starting out, the idea of working on something for hours and then publishing it to an audience of no one is scary. I get it, I was there not too long ago.You have to overcome the part of you that wants to quit because you think that not enough people are paying attention to the thing you’re making. If you don’t push through the beginning phase, you’ll never get to the part where the stuff you're making is good enough to get and hold people's attention.Focus On Delivering Value EverywhereIf you really want to grow an audience for your podcast, you need to be all about it everywhere. It needs to be featured on your website, on your Twitter profile, you need to talk about it constantly. Otherwise people aren’t going to notice, cause there’s a lot of stuff going on in their lives.People will find your show if it solves a problem they’re having, or if one of their friends loves it and thinks it’s great enough to share. If you’re not solving a clear problem with your podcast, then it’s going to be difficult to get people to pay attention. If you’re making a show purely for entertainment, you’re competing with a lot of other podcasts. It’s not impossible to get people to pay attention, but it’s hard. There are a lot of options for people who want to be entertained.Be Proud of Your Show, Get Excited About ItIf you don’t love your show enough to talk about it and be excited about it, then most people aren’t going to pay attention.Create something that you can get excited about and other people will see that and get excited about it too.2. Engage Around Your ContentEngaging around your content is pretty straightforward. Ask for comments or feedback and respond to any comments or feedback that you get. It’s strange to me that some people don’t ask their audience for feedback at the end of the show. Just say, “Let me know what you think; email or find me on Twitter.” It only takes a couple of seconds but it shows your audience that you’re willing to talk with them.Talking with people online can be time consuming, but that’s how you build an audience in the beginning; one person at a time. After you hear from people in your audience, go make more content based on what you learned from those interactions.Jeremiah asked: I’ve been asking my audience questions but I’m not getting replies. What should I do?Sean responded: Reasons you’re not getting replies when you ask for them:No one hears you asking. You haven’t offered a compelling lead magnet or positioned it in a way that is seen as valuable to your target audience. You haven’t established yourself as an authority.People need to see you as an expert before they ask you questions. You’re not asking the right way. You’re either asking too many things, asking ambiguously, or asking in a way that is not clear and is making people think too much. You’re asking the wrong people.3. Building CommunityBuilding a community starts with defining your audience. People want to be part of tribes, groups of people who share a similar interest.Jordan Newhouse asked: Where do you go to build your audience? Social media? Guest posts on other blogs? Or is it true that “if you build it, they will come”?Building an audience involves a little bit of everything. Talk about what you care about on social media, make sure you link to your website in your various online profiles. Anywhere there’s an about page, tell people what you’re all about (bonus points if you do it in a way that describes what they’re going to get out of following you or listening to your podcast). And yes, writing blog posts for other people’s blogs or being a guest on other podcasts is a great way to build an audience.Collaborate With Your "Competition"One of the best ways to get new audience members is to collaborate with the people who are already speaking to the audience you want to speak to.If you’re a designer who is passionate about sports design (Hi Adam), find the people who are writing blog posts and doing podcasts and making videos about sports design and invite them to be on your show. Send them an email and ask if you can join them on your show. Two great ways to build an audience for your podcas are:Invite people to come on your showBe a guest on other related podcastsYou should also be introducing your audience members to each other. Use your network to make introductions and foster connections.Be Willing to Share Your Story, Your Goals, and Your DreamsPart of growing a follow involves sharing yourself. You’re going to have to be comfortable with talking to people, sharing your opinions and thoughts surrounding the topic you’re talking about. In the beginning, it’s especially important to invest in your early fans. These are the people who are going to help you spread the word about your show and the people who are going to give you honest, helpful feedback (if you let them). Invest in them. Give them access to you.As your audience grows, it might become difficult to create and maintain connections with new audience members. You can’t really be good friends with 150 people, but you can always respond to people and say thanks and be grateful for their attention.Recap:If you want to grow an audience, put out valuable content everyday and engage with people.Know who you’re creating for and what they want and need. Make stuff for those people.Don’t be afraid to ask your audience members to share your show with a friend.Make yourself available as much as you can. Be polite and respond if people ask you questions.Be patient. Remember that the people you look up to (the people with the huge audiences) have been working on growing their audience for years, if not decades (and maybe multiple decades). The best time to get started is now.Q&A:Daniela Anne asked: If you had to pick between quality and consistency in terms of growing an audience from scratch, which would you say is the most important? You really should aim for both, but if I had to pick one, I’d say consistency. You need to show up and create often. If you commit and show up, you’ll probably get better over time. Most people don’t get worse at something over time if they’re paying any attention at all to improving. I know it’s hard, but try not to compare yourself to anyone but your past self. Try to be better than you were last week.Matthew Kocanda asked: I’ve been building my business for over five years. I have a few friends that always support what I do, but now that I’m trying to branch out and really try to make this commission/design business lucrative, how do you FIND the audience? I feel like I’m starting from scratch on something that’s been 5 years in the making. The question you have to ask yourself is, “Am I solving a problem people have, or am I creating something that’s a nice to have?”If you’re creating something that’s just a nice-to-have, it’s a lot harder to make money than if you’re solving a problem. People are willing to pay money to make their problems go away, but we have endless free options for nice-to-have’s and entertainment.Something I heard on a podcast the other week made a ton of sense: If you want to make real money, solve “my house is burning down” problems. And I know some of you are thinking, “I just want to make my art and enjoy what I’m doing, I’m not doing it to make money.”Well, then we aren’t talking about business, we’re talking about art. There’s no guarantee that you’ll make any money with art you make just for yourself. It’s possible, but not promised. It’s easier to make money in business when you solve a problem or create something valuable for someone else in exchange for money.Ayah Abdul asked: What is the single most important call to action I can give my listeners at the end of an episode?I can’t tell you what the most important call to action is, you’ll have to decide that for yourself. Spend a little time thinking about it.Remember that the more call to actions you give someone, the less likely they are to do any of them, so try to keep it to one or two. Give some kind of call to action, don’t just leave people hanging when they finish an episode. Give them something to do or somewhere to go.Jeremiah Tutwiler asked: Do you have to create content daily? I know that this is the “Holy Grail”, but can you build an audience if you are consistently creating content on say a weekly basis? You can definitely grow an audience if you create content on a weekly basis, but I think you should supplement it with other things, like writing blog posts and engaging in your community and posting things your audience will find interesting or valuable to Twitter and other social networks.Links:Podcast: https://podcastingwithaaron.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/aaronpodcastingYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/aarondowdBlog: https://www.aarondowd.comRecommended Gear: https://kit.co/podcastingwithaaron

While contemplating the keys to building a successful brand, I was amazed at the commonalities between church building and brand building. Even if you rarely frequent churches, there are powerful, and insightful lessons to be learned from how churches grow their audience, create a community of givers/investors, and the gold standard… turn people into brand evangelists.
