While many physicians are called to the profession from a young age or commit to it early in life because of onerous pre-requisites and medical school admission requirements, others find their way to the bedside through more meandering routes. When the leap into medicine spans such a great distance, when the change of direction from a person's past pursuits into the profession is so abrupt, I automatically become curious. What happened in this person's life, or in their mind, to send them from one domain, one particular way of thinking about the world or going about their days, into the very different and idiosyncratic world of medical training and practice? As a doctoral candidate writing a thesis on the ethics of war, Will Feldman felt a need to take his ethical reasoning and moral questions outside of the theoretical realm and into the real world. That's what brought him to a neurology ward as an observer and, a decade later, to his work as a critical care physician, clinical ethicist, and health services researcher. William B. Feldman completed his doctorate in Political Theory from Oxford University before entering medical school at the University of California San Francisco. He subsequently completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, along with a Master's of Public Health at Harvard University and a Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Brigham and Women's. He is now Associate Physician in theDivision of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Faculty in the Program On Regulation, Therapeutics And Law (PORTAL) and Co-Chair of that hospital's Ethics Committee and Associate Director of its Ethics Service. Will's credentials and background may seem quite distant from the daily reality of critical care medicine or pulmonology clinic, and yet our conversation revealed how he has woven together the many strands of his academic and professional development into a coherent and meaningful whole. Speaking to Will also illustrates something I've always felt to be true: that diverse approaches, backgrounds and intellectual traditions only serve to deepen medicine's impact and relevance. ***Links:Will's profile and twitterInformed consent paper Crisis standards of care paperOTC inhaler paper and tweet threadInhaler patents paper and tweet thread CBC article on effort to regulate Canadian drug prices***Recorded May 20, 2022Music: Mr Smith Art: Jeff Landman

Powrót dwuosobowego składu w godzinnym odcinku. Tematy z twittera i niekończące się gierki. Szukając tematów do odcinka miałem raczej nietęgą minę. Drugą połowę podcastu przeznaczyliśmy na Tom Clancy's: The Division (PS4) i ogólnie temat games as a service. Miłego słuchania! 1. Well, it has finally happened! Sony have revealed the price of PSVR and it is a whopping $399, which is without the PS Camera and PS MOVE controller you need to use the device. Should Sony have made it cheaper? Why not announce all of the extra peripherals needed straight away? Do you think this will sell well? Could people actually use this to play PS4 games without a TV? We try to answer these questions about it as best we can. There’s also a ton more stuff in here, since it has been a bit since we’ve done a podcast. Could Sony and Microsoft actually approve cross-platform play for games? Microsoft has at least extended the olive branch. We talk about the last Nintendo Direct that happened, The Division being the new best selling franchise, Indiana Jones 5 being announced and a ton more. Sean also talks about his time with Senran Kagura: Estival Versus and Marc bought The Division and has been playing quite a lot of it, he also talks about Disgaea PC as well.

On the eve of it's release, what better time to talk about our recent time with Ubisoft's latest open world shooter, The Division, or at least it's closed beta, which occurred a few weeks back. Can Ubisoft's answer to Destiny work in a contemporary context or will this wind up being yet another bloated collect-o-thon? Speaking of which, Lara Croft is back and finally on the PC in eye-meltingly glorious eye-candy-o-vision. It truly is one of the best looking games ever made and while the emphasis on actual tomb raiding still plays second fiddle to it's more modern open-world design, it's all hangs together rather well... it's all about the Tomb Raiding and the Divisioning on this week's #NOTplaying Podcast! The Division http://tomclancy-thedivision.ubi.com/game/en-gb/home/Rise of the Tomb Raider http://store.steampowered.com/app/391220/Contact us on Email at: notplayingpodcast@gmail.comFollow us on Twitter: @notplayingpodYou can find the show notes for this show at www.notlistening.co.ukIf you're listening on iTunes, please give us a review!Music kindly provided by Miracle of Sound https://www.youtube.com/miracleofsoundTo Check out other shows in the Collection visit:http://barkerpodcasts.webs.com Including the #NOTwatching Podcast: http://www.spreaker.com/show/the-notwatching-podcast
It's the end of the world as we know it as Ally and Darren talk The Division, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and new Pokemon. Intro: My Patch - Jim Noir Outro: Original Pokerap
We really have to stop doing this long layoff thing, it isn’t good for our morale. Once again, it is totally unintentional, but at least we have some things to talk about on the podcast today. Could the Playstation VR price be revealed at Sony’s VR event at the Game Developers Conference in March? Are any of these prices listed the right one? Six million people played The Division Beta, we were two of them, we give our thoughts on The Division. There’s a maybe a Dragon Age Tactics, Bethesda having a E3 press conference again, Knack 2 being made, Crash Bandicoot maybe coming back, Hideo Kojima talking to Guillermo Del Toro and Norman Reedus again and a lot more.Sean talks about his time with Fire Emblem Fates and Walking Dead Michonne, Marc spent a lot of time with The Division Beta.

This week we talk mostly on Game news, mixed with our usual strange news, trends and of course TV/Film news.
We're a few weeks into 2016 now and already there seems to be loads of interesting games coming out. So what better time to go through what's on the slate this year and what games we're particularly looking forward to. Oh and of course 2016 is supposed to be the year VR really happens, so feel free to listen (laugh) along to our predictions on the Oculus Rift launch price (disclaimer: this was recorded a few weeks ago!)Oculus Rift Pre-Orders https://shop.oculus.com/en-us/cart/2016 Release Schedule https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_in_video_gamingContact us on Email at: notplayingpodcast@gmail.comFollow us on Twitter: @notplayingpodYou can find the show notes for this show at www.notlistening.co.ukIf you're listening on iTunes, please give us a review!Music kindly provided by Miracle of Sound https://www.youtube.com/miracleofsoundTo Check out other shows in the Collection visit:http://barkerpodcasts.webs.com Including the #NOTwatching Podcast: http://www.spreaker.com/show/the-notwatching-podcast
After the megatons that went off at last week's E3, this episode might seem a bit long in the tooth, since it's mostly covering the Assassin's Creed Syndicate reveal and some other bits from the Ubisoft investor call a few weeks ago. Nevertheless, we recorded it, so here is to listen to. We'll be back with a more timely E3 shakedown next week! Until then, enjoy! The division delayed to 2016 http://www.pcgamer.com/tom-clancys-the-division-delayed-to-2016/New studio added http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2015/05/11/ubisoft-annecy-the-division/1Assassin's Creed Syndicate will let you play as a LADIIIEEEE! http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-05-11-assassins-creed-syndicate-will-let-you-play-as-a-woman-reportHilarious pre-order special editions for idiots http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-05-13-assassins-creed-syndicates-four-special-editions-detailedWar Thunder developers are making a 'post apocalyptic vehicle MMO' http://www.pcgamer.com/war-thunder-devs-announce-post-apocalyptic-vehicle-combat-mmo/and another one https://youtu.be/0IGuUD77O0EMirror's Edge 2 coming early 2016 http://www.polygon.com/2015/5/5/8556395/mirrors-edge-2-release-dateDead Island 2 delayed to 2016 http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-04-30-dead-island-2-delayed-to-2016Hellraid on hold http://www.pcgamer.com/hellraid-development-put-on-hold/Contact us on Email at: notplayingpodcast@gmail.comFollow us on Twitter: @notplayingpodYou can find the show notes for this show at www.notlistening.co.ukIf you're listening on iTunes, please give us a review!Intro/Outro music kindly provided by Miracle of Sound https://www.youtube.com/miracleofsoundTo Check out other shows in the Collection visit:http://barkerpodcasts.webs.com Including the #NOTwatching Podcast: http://www.spreaker.com/show/the-notwatching-podcast
Call us superficial, but when we're promised a certain level of visual fidelity and shown a game actually working and looking as it does 2 years out from release, and we have hardware capable enough to run it, you have to forgive us for being a bit miffed when the final product turns out to be so obviously downgraded. Such has been the story of Watch_Dogs and likely a great many other games to be released this generation. In this episode we attempt to get to the bottom of why this is happening and how the community is responding. We also stop our bleating long enough to discuss some of the actual news that's happened since E3 wound down...Watchdogs/The Division Graphicshttp://kotaku.com/modder-finds-files-for-better-graphics-in-watch-dogs-p-1591448324?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflowhttp://www.pcgamer.com/2014/06/25/watch-dogs-mod-updated-with-ultra-texture-stuttering-fix-and-patch-support/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b43ZlqPvBDshttp://whatifgaming.com/the-division-developer-insider-we-already-downgraded-a-few-thingsGTAV on PC/Next Gen looks SO MUCH BETTER!http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/17/5817718/gta-5-ps4-ps3-video-comparison-grand-theft-autoBatman in January?http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/17/5817208/voice-of-batman-says-batman-arkham-knight-hits-januaryAreal - STALKER Successor on Kickstarter???http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-25-definitive-spiritual-successor-to-s-t-a-l-k-e-r-hits-kickstarterCrytek UK Troublehttp://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-24-crytek-uk-exodus-sparks-concern-over-homefront-the-revolutionVanehttp://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-24-ex-the-last-gaurdian-artists-reveal-shadow-of-the-colossus-like-adventure-vane?utm_source=eurogamer&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=net-dailyRODINAhttp://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/28kl0l/iama_video_game_programmer_who_worked_at_bethesda/Steamboy!?!?!http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/135381-SteamBoy-Aims-To-Be-The-Handheld-Steam-Machine-UpdateReady Player One - Movie News!http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=119815Oculus buys Xbox 360 Controller designershttp://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-25-oculus-buys-company-that-designed-the-xbox-360-controllerUnity optimised for PS4http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/219293/Unity_arrives_on_PlayStation_4_with_Morpheus_support_to_follow.phpPS3 titles to being steaming on PSNowhttp://www.engadget.com/2014/06/25/playstation-now-sony-bravia-tv/Rob @bobirokaIain @ebowgbPatrick @patrickjkayAdam @koorahContact us on Email at: notplayingpodcast@gmail.comFollow us on Twitter: @notplayingpodYou can find the show notes for this show at www.notlistening.co.ukIf you're listening on iTunes, please give us a review! To Check out other shows in the Collection visit:http://barkerpodcasts.webs.com Including the #NOTwatching Podcast: http://www.spreaker.com/show/the-notwatching-podcastAll views and opinions expressed in this podcast are solely those of The #NOTplaying Podcast.
