These roles would have him appear opposite headliners including Judy Garland, Burt Lancaster, and Sidney Poitier. The NBA featured Lakers/Warriors in their weekly primetime slot on ABC Saturday night. LeBron James and Steph Curry are trying to lead their teams into the playoffs...and the game Saturday night had major implications on playoff seeding. However...the end of the game was ruined by incompetent officiating by NBA officials. We reveal and react to the end of the Lakers/Warriors game. We discuss the ongoing officiating problem in the NBA...and Adam Silver unwillingness to correct the problem. We also react to recent NBA ratings...and question why casual fans haven't returned to watching the NBA.
Conservative actors have complained for years that their views get them blacklisted in Hollywood or forces them to quietly self-censor. Now General Hospital actor Ingo Rademacher is speaking out about his lawsuit against ABC. Get the facts first on Morning Wire.
This week we're bypassing the randomizer for yet another Guest's Choice episode, in which our good friend Madeline Maye makes us watch one of the first episodes of a 1988 ABC Saturday morning cartoon produced by Walt Disney Television Animation, a series that came about when the executives said "So yeah, Winnie the Pooh's a big popular brand for us, let's just slap together a cute little Pooh show to sell some more plush toys to pre-schoolers, it doesn't need to be mindblowing or anything." To which the writers, artists and showrunners responded, "We are going to make an episode about Rabbit looking after a baby bird that will rip every last audience member's still-beating heart right out of their asses and show it to them before they die drowning in their own salty tears." Join Tony Goldmark, Madeline Maye, Chris Nebergall and Renie Rivas as they count all the bees in the hive and chase all the clouds from the sky back to the days of THE NEW ADVENTURES OF WINNIE THE POOH, season one, episode four, "Find Her, Keep Her!" Have you ever asked yourself what effect the weather can really have on our moods? In this episode of Align podcast, Ginger Zee and I discuss the negative connotations surrounding mental health and the effects this can have on someone who is struggling with a mental disorder. Ginger shares her own personal experience with suicide and what we can do to create a better future for ourselves. We also talk about the similarities between our minds and the weather, how climate relates to our moods and find out what the real definition of a storm actually is. Ginger Zee is the chief meteorologist at ABC News, reporting on the nation's weather for “Good Morning America” and across ABC News broadcasts and digital platforms. Additionally, Zee is the managing editor of the climate unit at ABC News. Since joining ABC News, Zee has covered almost every major weather event and dozens of historic storms. She broadcasted from the devastated Jersey Shore during Hurricane Sandy, the Colorado floods and wildfires, and covered the aftermath of tornadoes in Moore and El Reno, Oklahoma. In 2018, she was in the eye wall of Category 5 Hurricane Michael live in the Florida Panhandle and in the 2020 hurricane season, Zee told the stories of devastation from the record number of named storms. From the epic bushfires in Australia to Boston blizzards and record-breaking heat in Death Valley, Zee is there to warn and show the impacts including the relationship to climate change. Zee's passion does not stop with storm chasing. Her love of adventure has taken her and ABC News viewers across the world. She has gone para-hawking in Nepal, flown a drone into the fissure of a volcano in Iceland, hiked the largest cave in the world in Vietnam, para-glided from the Himalayas to the Andes, dove with sharks in the Bahamas, rappelled 27 stories down the exterior façade of the Wit Hotel in Chicago, explored the 275 waterfalls of Iguazú Falls in Argentina and talked climate change on the edge of Victoria Falls in Africa. Plus, skydiving, ice boat racing and surfing live on “GMA.” Prior to joining ABC News, she was a meteorologist at NBC station WMAQ-Channel 5 in Chicago from 2006-2011, also filling in for several NBC and MSNBC News programs. Before that assignment, Zee worked at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she part of the Storm Team 8, also covering the environment, science and the impact of weather throughout West Michigan. From 2003-2005, Zee worked at WEYI NBC 25 in Flint, Michigan. She began her career at WLAV FM/ WXMI in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Zee, who has storm chased since college, has a genuine passion for the atmosphere and a dedication to getting young people interested in science. Zee is the author of a trilogy for 8-12 year-olds called “Chasing Helicity.” She is also the author of two bestselling memoirs, “Natural Disaster” and “A Little Closer to Home,” which feature Zee's life and mental health journey. Additionally, Zee and her husband, Ben Aaron, starred in “Renovation Realities: Ben & Ginger” on DIY Network. Zee is the co-host of Hearts of Heroes on ABC Saturday's, highlighting the natural disasters she knows so well from the first responder and hero's point of view. The Emmy Award-winning meteorologist attended Valparaiso University and holds a Bachelor of Science in meteorology. She also served as an adjunct professor at the University from 2008-2011. Let's wrap up our look at the Saturday morning TV landscape of 1971! ABC's lineup was probably the strongest of the three networks, but it's still quite weird. There were classics like Road Runner and Jonny Quest, alongside oddities like Filmation's Jerry Lewis cartoon, the Rankin/Bass animated version of the Jackson 5, and more psychedelic Krofft craziness with the living hats of Lidsville. Hanna Barbera recycled its Scooby Doo "traveling teen" format with Funky Phantom, starring a ghost who sounded just like Snagglepuss. We're very curious about Curiosity Shop, of which little video evidence survives. But all we really need are live action secret agent apes... and we'll always have Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp. A few months back, we examined the Saturday morning cartoon schedules of each major TV network from the year 1980. Now we're jumping ahead by a decade for three more cartoon-themed episodes, starting with ABC's Saturday morning schedule from the ridiculous year of 1990. How ridiculous was it? Well... there was a New Kids on the Block cartoon. Television probably should have just ended right there, for the sake of the children. But moving on, the rest of the ABC lineup was pretty strong overall. There were some fresh revivals of classic cartoon properties (like Scooby Doo and Winnie the Pooh), as well as animated versions of recent supernatural comedy films (Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice). Even the Wizard of Oz gang reunited for a faithful new cartoon series... and you know we're always on the side of the flying monkeys. So join us. Let's figure out what happened. COVIDleaf Radio's (Cloverleaf) host, "The Host with the Most" "The King of the Quarantine" welcome Actor/Stuntman, Ed Gale! Ed left his hometown two years after graduating from Plainwell High School (Plainwell, Michigan) at the age of 20 with $41 in his pocket and hitched a ride California to pursue his dream of being not a "star", but a steady working Hollywood "actor". His very first experience in the "biz" was auditioning for and subsequently winning the lead role of Howard The Duck. Initially he was told "you are too tall" (he keeps that letter readily available in his living-room and often refers to it with a humble smile). Early in his career, Ed had performed many of his own stunts such as being run over by a big rig, flying on wires, fight scenes, being tossed, thrown & dropped great distances, and crashing through the windshield of a moving vehicle. However, his most impressive stunts just might be his Full Body Burns in the first Child's Play movie and his Full Body Burn while "flying" on wires in Leprechaun 3. Ed Gale has appeared in over 130 Television Shows, Films, and Commercials to date; playing some of Hollywood's most famous (and infamous) characters such as "Howard" in the movie Howard The Duck; "Chucky" in Child's Play, Child's Play 2, and the Bride of Chucky; "Birdie the Early Bird" in one of the very few McDonland's commercials in which "Birdie" actually flew; "Tasha" (the baby dinosaur in the ABC Saturday morning kids show The New Land of the Lost; and the "The Mole" in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. Other popular films to Ed Gale's credit include; Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, Mom & Dad Save the World, and the Christmas Holiday Hit: the Polar Express. Out of Costume, Ed has played some rather notable "human" roles as well; "Hank Tarver" (The District), "Oscar" (3rd Rock from the Sun), "Stan" (Santa, Jr.), "Benson" (Call Me Claus), "Mr. Larry Briggs" (The Hughley's), "Jimmy" (Just Shoot Me), and "Baby Jesus" (Grounded for Life). Ed is probably most recognized for his roles as "Lavalle" (Bones), "Little Prisoner" (My Name is Earl), "Simon McKay" (Baywatch) and as the "Little Man" (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) Ed has starred, co-starred, & guest starred along side of some of the biggest names in Hollywood, the likes of which include: Lea Thompson, Kym Whitley, John Candy, Mel Brooks, Keanu Reeves, Catherine Hicks, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, Ray Liotta, Charlton Heston, Billy Bob Thornton, Jeffrey Jones, Teri Garr, Hal Sparks, Holly Robinson-Peete, Caroline Rhea, Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Bobby Lee and many, many more! Ed Gale is no stranger to Television Commercials either, pitching such products as: Burger King, Toys R US, Cingular Wireless, Best Buy, Progressive Insurance, Nike, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (with Fabio), Kinko's, Twisted Metal 4, Taco Bell, Polaroid Cameras, Snapple, McDonald's, Holiday Inn, Nissan Cars (Japan), California Eggs, & Sony Video. Fresh off their successful appearance at Pensacon, the guys are back at it. This week they return to the exciting world of Superman! ALL the way back to the first commercial incarnation other than the comic pages. Along the way we also feature the return of Mr. John Field. John last joined us on our episode featuring George Reeves (TV's first Superman). John also possesses extensive knowledge of "Bud" Collyer, and the early radio days of Superman! The Adventures of Superman is a long-running radio serial that originally aired from 1940 to 1951 featuring the DC Comics character Superman. The serial came to radio as a syndicated show on New York City's WOR on February 12, 1940. On Mutual, it was broadcast from August 31, 1942, to February 4, 1949, as a 15-minute serial, running three or, usually, five times a week. From February 7 to June 24, 1949, it ran as a thrice-weekly half-hour show. The series shifted to ABC Saturday evenings on October 29, 1949, and then returned to afternoons twice a week on June 5, 1950, continuing on ABC until March 1, 1951. In all, 2,088 original episodes of The Adventures of Superman aired on American radio. In the first few episodes, Superman's home planet of Krypton is located on the far side of the sun, as opposed to a distant star system as it is in most stories. During the journey to Earth, baby Kal-el grows into an adult and emerges fully grown from his ship after it lands on Earth. He is never adopted by the Kents but immediately begins his superhero career. This was eventually retconned in later episodes to match the narrative of the comic books. This serial introduced the fictional mineral kryptonite, the radiation from which can weaken and even (in some continuities) kill Superman. Aside from giving Superman's foes a plausible way to fight him, it also allowed Superman's voice actor to take the occasional break: Superman would spend the next episode incapacitated, his groans voiced by a substitute actor, Just as Superman's true identity remained a secret, the identity of radio actor Clayton 'Bud' Collyer also remained a secret from 1940 until 1946, when the character of Superman was used in a promotional campaign for racial and religious tolerance and Collyer did a Time magazine interview about that campaign. Since there were no reruns at that time, the series often used plot devices and plot twists to allow Collyer to have vacation time. Kryptonite allowed Superman to be incapacitated and incoherent with pain while the secondary characters took the focus instead. At other times, Batman (Stacy Harris) and Robin (Ronald Liss) appeared on the program in Superman's absence. The scripts by B. P. Freeman and Jack Johnstone were directed by Robert and Jessica Maxwell, George Lowther, Allen Ducovny and Mitchell Grayson. Sound effects were created by Jack Keane, Al Binnie, Keene Crockett and John Glennon. Many aspects associated with Superman, such as kryptonite, originated on radio, as did certain characters, including Daily Planet editor Perry White, copy boy Jimmy Olsen and police inspector Bill Henderson. On March 2, 1945, Superman met Batman and Robin for the first time. Paramount's animated Superman short films used voices by the radio actors, and Columbia's Superman movie serials (1948, 1950) were "adapted from the Superman radio program broadcast on the Mutual Network". --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-adventures-of/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-adventures-of/support
