LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODE HERE! Alright, here's another PATREON EPISODE PREVIEW This week we're talking Spies for the People, Whistleblowers, Wikileaks, Julian Assange, and the Logic of the Bomb. Slavoj Žižek asks, "Did WikiLeaks open our eyes to the illusion of freedom?" Was the only surprising thing about the WikiLeaks revelations that they contain no surprises? Or did we learn exactly what we expected to learn? The real disturbance was at the level of appearances: we can no longer pretend we don't know what everyone knows we know… Alenka Zupančič says that “Knowledge thus adopts a new and different role: it is no longer simply something to be disavowed but - paradoxically - something that can help us disavow (the real of this same knowledge).“ So what happens when someone yells THEATRE in a crowded fire? Why doesn't revelation necessarily liberate? Is Julian Assange an Antingone figure?  What does Norm Mcdonald have to tell us about the register of truth in the public domain? Thanks to our Patreon @tarryingwiththenegative for this weeks episode idea! See you in Paris! Ž&...

I wrote an essay on John and Barbara Ehrenreich's concept of the PMC, and how it relates to Mark Fisher's concept of the Vampire Castle, which I read in this episode. You'll hear the full version of the essay, but a shortened version will be included in a book titled Underground Theory, which will be available at Amazon to order a print copy September 4. The link is below. I'm proud to say that this essay will be included with essays by some smart and controversial thinkers including Žižek, Norman Finkelstein, Alenka Zupančič, Todd McGowan, Catherine Liu, Chris Cutrone, Daniel Tutt and Michael Downs of the Dangerous Maybe blog. In my essay I argue Mark Fisher makes the same mistake many Marxists have made. They conflate the petite bourgeoisie with the professional managerial class. This is an understandable mistake, but it is time for Marxists to begin using the Ehrenreich's definition of the professional managerial class in their class analysis. At another time I will quibble further with the Ehrenreichs. I think they make a few mistakes, but on the whole I think they have brought a tremendous improvement to the discipline of class analysis. The future of the socialist struggle must account for the distinctions between the petite bourgeoisie and the professional managerial class. Z gostom šestnajste epizode podkasta sem pred snemanjem opravil že nešteto lepih in globokih pogovorov. Omenjava dramska besedila Vladimir (Matjaž Zupančič) in View from the Bridge (Arthur Miller).

Sexuality and knowledge are structured around a fundamental negativity, which unites them at the point of the unconscious. The unconscious (as linked to sexuality) is the concept of an inherent link between being and knowledge in their very negativity.

How it is being affirmed by psychoanalysis and how by philosophy? How Alenka Zupančič sees the contemporary forms of subjectivity? In the second episode of Sound of Thoughts we were speaking about the transformations that our contemporary historical moment, the so called “era of post-truth” in which lie and truth, trust and mistrust, security and crises seem to be intertwined in a kind of hegelian bad infinity, has brought us. Jack Black, Race, Racism and Political Correctness in Comedy (Routledge 2021). In what ways is comedy subversive? This vital new book critically considers the importance of comedy in challenging and redefining our relations to race and racism through the lens of political correctness. On this episode of New Books Network, your host Lee M. Pierce (they) interviews author Jack Black (he) about psychoanalysis, PC culture, The Office, and the subversive potential of comedy to change our collective experience. Race, Racism and Political Correctness in Comedy engages with the social and cultural tensions inherent to our understandings of political correctness, arguing that comedy can subversively redefine our approach to ‘PC debates', contestations surrounding free speech and the popular portrayal of political correctness in the media and society. Aided by the work of both Slavoj Žižek and Alenka Zupančič, this unique analysis adopts a psychoanalytic/philosophical framework to explore issues of race, racism and political correctness in the widely acclaimed BBC ‘mockumentary', The Office (UK), as well as a variety of television comedies. Jack Black is a Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University. After completing his postgraduate studies at Loughborough University, his research has continued to explore the interrelationships between sociology, media and communications and cultural studies.

Foto: Marko Golja

Hamlet in Faust, don Kihot in don Juan, Aljoša Karamazov in Gregor Samsa … Alenka Zupančič in dr. Mladen Dolar. Zupančič in dr. Dolar še poslušalkam in poslušalcem Glasov svetov pojasnila, zakaj zgodbe o grškem junaku kratko malo ni brez Ojdipu v Kolonu. foto: Jean-Antoine-Théodore Giroust: Ojdip v Kolonu; olje na platnu, 1788 (Wikipedia, javna last)

In What is Sex?, Alenka Zupančič approaches the question of sexuality from a Lacanian perspective, considering it a properly philosophical problem for psychoanalysis. Drawing on Freud and Lacan, Zupančič argues that sexuality is at the point of a “short circuit” between ontology and epistemology. Sexuality and knowledge are structured around a fundamental negativity, which unites them at the point of the unconscious. The unconscious (as linked to sexuality) is the concept of an inherent link between being and knowledge in their very negativity. About the author Alenka Zupančič is a Slovene philosopher and social theorist. She works as research advisor at the Institute of Philosophy, Scientific Research Center of the Slovene Academy of Sciences. She is also professor at the European Graduate School in Switzerland, and at the Graduate School ZRC SAZU (Ljubljana). She is the author of numerous articles and books on psychoanalysis and philosophy, including Ethics of the Real: Kant and Lacan; The Shortest Shadow: Nietzsche's Philosophy of the Two; Why Psychoanalysis: Three Interventions; The Odd One In: On Comedy; and, most recently, What is Sex?

Zakaj torej v vsaj statistično dobrih gospodarskih razmerah uspevajo Trump in trumpi? Kaj v resnici predstavlja brexit?
