“Many people with autism gravitate toward leadership because of the traits and values of our culture… We're born leaders because we're born to see world-building vision.” Today, we are joined by autistic advocate and host of the Autistic Culture Podcast, Dr. Angela Kingdon. Angela drops a science/history lesson, a ton of pop culture references, and some much-needed thoughts on neurodiversity in the workplace and leadership.Listen in to find out:- What Angela's learned about herself and this awesome community since being diagnosed in 2012.- Why understanding the things neurodivergent folks have to know about themselves (to accommodate their environments) would benefit 100% of people, neurodivergent or not.- The horrifying story of why we don't use the term Asperger's anymore.- Why leaders must develop cultural literacy around differences (aside from the fact that it benefits them too).- Some great anecdotes about autistic people, inventions, and culture.“Autistics have been around forever – they created the first stone tools, but it wasn't a label or diagnosis until 1943.”“Taylor Swift and her great aunt, Emily Dickinson, are both perfect examples of autistic traits.”“When people are neurotypical, they're so used to assuming their way is the way. One-size-fits-all isn't real, and that does need to shift.”—Dr. Angela Kingdon is a dynamic autistic advocate, author, and speaker, renowned for her impactful work in promoting neurodiversity and supporting autistic individuals. As the host of the Autistic Culture Podcast, Angela shares her experiences and insights as a late-diagnosed autistic person, aiming to create a more inclusive and understanding society.Angela's journey began with a diagnosis at the age of 39, which she describes as a turning point that allowed her to embrace her unique neurodiverse perspective fully. Leveraging her lifelong special interest in non-fiction, she founded Difference Press™ and created The Author Incubator™, a program that has helped nearly 2,000 entrepreneurs write, publish, and promote their books. Angela's expertise and dedication have led her company to remarkable success, with her clients' books reaching millions of readers and generating significant revenue.Angela holds a B.A. and an M.A. in Journalism and Media Affairs from George Washington University and a Ph.D. in Communications from the European Graduate School as well as a graduate certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from the Unviersity of Colorado Boulder. She is also a bestselling author of eight books, including neurodiversity-affirming titles like The Equalizing Quill and Make ‘Em Beg To Work For You, which have earned her acclaim and recognition in the publishing industry.Angela is not just an advocate; she is a beacon of inspiration, empowering autistic individuals and educating the broader community about the value of neurodiversity. Her advocacy extends beyond her professional work. She actively engages with audiences through social media platforms and her podcast, sharing her story and encouraging others to understand and embrace neurodiversity.

Today we sit down with Daniel Tutt to discuss many things, but with a focus on György Lukács and Jean-Paul Sartre.Daniel Tutt is a writer, philosopher, and the host of the Emancipations podcast, which delves into the intersections of philosophy, psychoanalytic theory, and contemporary political struggles. Daniel's work is a rich blend of psychoanalysis and Marxist thought, and his first book, "Psychoanalysis and the Politics of the Family: The Crisis of Initiation", published in 2022, seeks to invigorate the contemporary left by re-examining the family through these theoretical lenses.Daniel has an impressive academic background, having studied philosophy and psychoanalytic practice at American University and the European Graduate School. He has also imparted his knowledge at George Washington University, Marymount University, and even within the DC jail system. His research and writing cover a wide array of topics, including psychoanalysis and politics, Marxist theory, social reproduction debates, and the influence of Nietzsche and Nietzscheanism on contemporary thought. His latest book, "How to Read Like a Parasite: Why the Left Got High on Nietzsche", explores the profound impact of Nietzsche's philosophy on the left, tracing its influence from the Black Panthers to contemporary liberal academics. Daniel's insights promise to offer a thought-provoking and engaging discussion, and we're thrilled to have him with us today.CHAPTERS 00:00 - Introduction to Daniel Tutt3:25 - Tutt's vision of Marxist education11:10 - The origins of Tutt's podcast14:08 - Lines of Influence: Žižek & the Frankfurt School 21:20 - Main idea of "How to Read Like a Parasite" - Nietzsche's political epistemology 27:53 - On the critics of "How to Read Like a Parasite" 29:40 - French Nietzscheanism and the uncritical interpretation of Nietzsche 35:24 - The foundation of "How to Read Like a Parasite"39:55 - Nietzsche and anti-Semitism: the importance of Losurdo's intervention  44:04 - How to position Nietzsche on the left 47:43 - Introduction to Lukács's critique of bourgeois philosophy 57:10 - Overview of Lukács's concept of irrationalism 1:10:20 - Sartre vs. Lukács: Two ships passing in the night1:12:25 - The core contributions of Lukács's History and Class Consciousness 1:21:35 - Why Tutt debated Haz 1:24:06 - How to get beyond hyper-individualism and market-based rivalries on the left1:31:15 - The practico inert and Sartre's theory of groups 1:37:28 - Debord and Lukács1:41:40 - The influence of Sartre's Critique of Dialectical Reason on contemporary thought 1:48:55 - The meaning of praxis in Lukács and Sartre  CONTACT DANIEL TUTThttps://linktr.ee/danieltuttEPISODE TEXTSGeorg Lukács1949 Essay on Existentialism:https://www.marxists.org/archive/lukacs/works/1949/existentialism.htmJean-Paul Sartre1961 Rome Lecturehttps://newleftreview.org/issues/ii88/articles/jean-paul-sartre-marxism-and-subjectivityFURTHER RESEARCHDaniel's Interview with Terry Pinkard, “Sartre's Marxist Turn?”:https://youtu.be/dmKoto74ZbE?si=J_M_uTIvMJigQ36SOn the Relevance of Lukács Worldview:https://cosmonautmag.com/2022/02/the-question-of-worldview-and-class-struggle-in-philosophy-on-the-relevance-of-lukacss-worldview-marxism-and-the-destruction-of-reason/DON'T FORGET TO LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, AND SHARE!Become a Patreon Patron:https://www.patreon.com/cyberdandySupport the Show.

She explains that anxiety often arises due to insufficient oxygen reaching the brain. By focusing on deep belly breathing and ensuring her brain receives enough oxygen, she finds relief from fear and anxiety. Thoughts on Breathing Proper breathing plays a crucial role in managing emotions, as Kathleen Israel explains. When experiencing anxiety, she noticed that shallow breathing deprived her brain of oxygen, intensifying fear. By consciously focusing on deep, belly breathing and inhaling for a count of eight and exhaling for the same duration, she effectively replenishes oxygen levels in her brain, alleviating anxiety and restoring a sense of calm. Her son, Peter, was often targeted and made to feel miserable by his classmates. One incident involved a group of altar boys who tricked Peter into thinking he was needed for an important role, only to mock him later. Despite such mistreatment, Kathleen encouraged Peter to pray for those who bullied him. Over time, the situation changed. Kathleen confronted the ringleader, Mike, who subsequently started treating Peter with kindness. As Peter grew older, his friends stood by him and included him in their activities. Kathleen believes that responding to bullies with prayer and unconditional love can help alleviate their pain and transform relationships. She emphasizes that unconditional love is a powerful force in the face of adversity.   Wisdom On The Camino Kathleen Israel's life experience has endowed her with valuable wisdom. She shares insights on the importance of conscious breathing, recognizing the impact of oxygen on the brain and its role in managing anxiety. Born on a US military base in Wiesbaden and raised in Northern California, she is currently pursuing a PhD at the European Graduate School where her research focuses on Hegel and madness. Cruz is the author of seven poetry collections, as well as two collections of critical work, including The Melancholia of Class: A Manifesto for the Working Class. In the book, Cruz writes, “To be working-class in a middle-class world is to be a ghost,” and the book analyzes how the choice between assimilation or annihilation has played out in the lives of working-class musicians, artists, writers, and filmmakers. Her newest collection of poems, Back to the Woods (forthcoming from Four Way Books) was written alongside A Manifesto for the Working Class and shares references with it while also circulating around Freud's concept of the death drive. According to Cruz, “In its simplest iteration the death drive is an attempt to begin again through the act of self annihilation.” Today, we'll hear two poems from the new collection, including “Dark Register” from the May issue of Poetry.

Dr. Angela Lauria, freelance ghostwriter, and editor, founded The Author Incubator in 2013. The Author Incubator was first created to be a home for bold, influential—even radical—ideas in publishing. Angela had planned a career in activism and social change after completing her PhD in the European Graduate School where her dissertation “From Medea to Media: Live Performance as a Vehicle for Social Change” was published by ATRPOS PRESS as part of the Think Media Philosophy Series. Little did Angela realize that it was this experience of getting her own book published that would forever alter her trajectory. To pay her way through graduate school, she helped companies and individuals write and publish their books. However, when Angela realized the publishing industry was ripe with subversion and disruption, she decided that she was being called to do something about it. It was then that she had the vision to create The Author Incubator: To empower agents of change and transformation; coaches, healers, lightworkers to write their book, to create a difference, and ultimately, to create massive social change in the process. The WitchHunt Podcast
Destructions, Rebirths and the Messy Be-Do-Be-Do Dance towards a New Earth: A fiery conversation with author, 8-figure entrepreneur & activist, Dr. Angela Lauria (Goddess name: Kali)

Wow! We're really feeling into some of that Arian energies as we head into Season 2 of the WitchHunt podcast! Our first episode of the season is an interview with Dr. Angela Lauria, who's recently taken on the Goddess name Kali, stepping fully into her embodiment of the Goddess' energy, as she embraces a radical identity shift. Dr. Angela Lauria is an incredible woman and mother and entrepreneur, who I met in person at the StarBucks next to our kids' school in Washington D.C. many moons ago. She is founder of The Author Incubator™ and creator of the Difference Process™ for writing a book that matters. I've watched Angela evolve into a successful 7-figure, then 8-figure entrepreneur and activist over the years. I was most blown away, though, by her most recent pandemic-induced transformation, which led her to establish the Socially Responsible Coaching Alliance — for coaches, consultants, authors, and speakers who want to create a more equitable society by building sustainable businesses that promote environmental, economic, and social justice. One of the reasons I wanted Angela on the podcast was to share the Alliance's new mission. And when I reached out to her, I had no idea of the personal transformation and rebirth that came along with this endeavour. I was blown away! In this episode we talk about evolutionary shifts of masculine and feminine energies in our lives and businesses, and the synonymous call to shift away from polarized black and white thinking towards the messy and unknown navigation of the grey that lies in-between. We talk about mind and heart coherence and how we're witnessing souls (vs brains) taking stronger roles in decision-making. Angela shares so much wisdom. She tells us how she honors destruction as part of the creation process and, related, how she stopped feeling like her own name and sought astrological and numerological guidance in her rebirth and renaming experience — taking on Kali, Hindu Goddess of Destruction, as part of her official identity. She shares her embrace of imperfection, and her be-do-be-do dance. Or, in other words, the importance of BEING who we want to become and not only doing what we need to do as a means of manifesting magic and creating miracles, two concepts, which she differentiates in detail. Angela also shares her struggle with depression, anti-depression medication and how in the end one simple, free, non-medicated, Earth-born ritual that anyone can tune into every single day cured her depression in the end — you'll have to listen to the episode to learn her secret. I can't wait to share Angela's energy with you in this episode! Enjoy!!! xx Alex Connect with Alex. This is a very special episode that we are rereleasing this week!  In the fall, Brigitte spoke with facilitator and storyteller, leZlie lee kam, and academic and artist, Lila Pine, two elders and dear friends who came to know each other through a performance in the Youth Elders Project at Buddies in Bad Times in Toronto. Describing their shared experiences of being schooled in Catholic institutions and the violent colonialism enacted upon both of their communities, leZlie and Lila reflect on their dual processes of reclaiming spirituality and rejecting the shame of institutionalized Catholicism. In leZlie's words: "I am a world majority, brown, trini, Carib, Indo, Chinese, callaloo, differently-abled, queer DYKE elder/senior..67 years young. I live my life from an anti-oppression, anti-racism, anti-colonial, intersectional and inter-generational perspective..I advocate for 2 Spirit, Indigenous, black and brown queer and transgender people AND Queer Seniors.. I enjoy doubles, dancing, dim sum, a cold beverage and a hot “lime “ anytime.. My EXISTENCE is my RESISTANCE!" Lila Pine is a New Media artist and Indigenous thinker. She is the Director of Saagajiwe, FCAD's Indigenous Communication and Design network, whose mission is to facilitate the creation and dissemination of Indigenous thought and ways of knowing and doing at Ryerson University and in the larger Indigenous community in Toronto.Lila is the Principle Investigator of Imag(in)ing Indigeneity in Language, a SSHRC funded program of research creation. Through the visualization of sound, Imag(in)ing Indigeneity in Language seeks to develop a way of  “seeing” language in order to identify distinct qualities in the speaking of different languages. It employs digital art creation as a scholarly research tool and it engages Indigenous research methods to shift perceptions around the relationship of language to worldviews and ecological concerns. Lila is also collaborating with Buffy Sainte-Marie on a project called Creative Native: Youth Mentorship in the Arts Initiative. The Creative Native Project will bring touring multi-arts festivals to First Nations communities across Canada. Beginning in Ontario the festival will showcase local and professional Indigenous entertainers and artists of all kinds, while building a corps of local Indigenous youth who will take leadership positions in doable jobs and then mentor their peers at subsequent community events. Lila teaches Indigenous Media and New Media courses. She received her MFA from York University in Toronto and PhD from the European Graduate School. In 2011, she defended her dissertation, entitled Memory Matters: Touching the Untouchable, which theorizes oral, literate and “electrate” cultures, as well as the divergence and convergence of Indigenous and Eurocentric ways of knowing. Climactic

How quickly can we achieve climate justice? Does climate justice mean we need to be careful and considered and/or hurry up? In what ways does declaring and responding to the 'climate emergency' contribute to climate justice, or potentially undermine it? What steps need to be taken to ensure that declaring a climate emergency doesn't lead to ‘states of emergency' and authoritarianism? Recent events in Australia highlight the need to consider the pros and cons of declaring a ‘climate emergency'. Efforts to outlaw climate protests demonstrate that some groups are threatened less by climate change than protests about it. Yet ‘climate emergency' was the Oxford English Dictionary's 2019 Word of the Year, demonstrating the reach and power of this phrase to capture the world's imagination and inspire urgent climate action. Join leading climate change researchers and practitioners as we tackle the pressing questions that the ‘climate emergency' raises. Panelists (Recently added) Dr Briony Towers, Centre for Urban Research, School of Global, Social and Urban Studies (GUSS), RMIT UniversityBriony has been conducting disaster risk reduction research with children and young people for over ten years. Her PhD in socio-cultural psychology at the University of Tasmania involved an in-depth investigation of children's knowledge of vulnerability and resilience to wildfire risk in south eastern Australia. She is currently the lead investigator on the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC project 'Building Best Practice in Child-Centred Disaster Risk Reduction'. She is also a member of the National Disaster Resilience Strategy group and a research advisor on the European Commission's CUIDAR project. Briony's primary research interests concern the root causes of disasters and how these can be addressed through place-based critical pedagogies and children's genuine participation in disaster management policy, research and practice. She is also interested in intergenerational climate justice and student-led climate activism. Associate Professor Lauren Rickards, School of Global, Urban and Social Studies (GUSS), RMIT University.A Lead Author with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's forthcoming Sixth Assessment Report on Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation, Lauren co-leads the Climate Change Transformations research program at the Centre for Urban Research and teaches on climate change into undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Sustainability and Urban Planning area of GUSS. Among other realms of climate in/justice, Lauren's research has investigated climate change's ‘slow emergencies' such as drought, as well as the logics through which societies ignore, normalise, deny or tolerate the harms climate change inflicts on marginalised people and the non-human world. Dr Bronwyn Lay, Ecological Justice Coordinator for Jesuit Social Services and Coordinator of the Climate Change Exchange at RMIT University.Bronwyn has engaged with the intersection of grassroots communities and ecological justice for the past 13 years. With a background in criminal and family law she completed her PhD on land governance and ecology at the European Graduate School in 2014 with a focus on ecocide law. While living in France she worked as a legal consultant for international NGO's and expert organisations on environmental crime at the Hague and United Nations and was the Director of the International Caux Dialogue on Land and Security. She has published in a wide variety of forums on the subject of ecological justice, including her book Juris Materiarum: Empires of Earth, Soil and Dirt.

Simon starts us off (1:08) asking, how can we make anthropology matter for policy and government? "There's no reason why [anthropology] can't be scaled up. There's no reason why there shouldn't be a chief anthropologist to the government.” As Jodie argues, "unless, as a discipline, we are willing to step outside our disciplinary mores and our disciplinary boundaries and make ourselves indispensable to people who have power in government, then no, we are not going to be useful." And Simon reminds us, "we need to make what is good about anthropology its selling point, which is its ability to do long-term, intimate research." Next, Jodie (6:53) asks about digital disruptions, and their unintended consequences. Are we looking only to a future of corporate power and social atomization? Can it all be bad? "Surely some of them must be positive, in a non-hedonistic way." Patrick gives us some hope, by telling us about a use of technology that we didn't foresee: "I was actually, the other day, trying to find an app that would allow me to scan someone's body for the health of their chakras." And Julia points out that "what digital disruption might mean is that our imagination and our superstition and our beliefs in various systems like chakras could be destroyed, through relying more and more on 'digital objectivity.'” Special guest Dr. Patrick McCartney (11:52) talks about his research with yoga groups on Facebook, calling the online yoga scene "a heterotopian series of worlds within worlds," and asking, what are kind of research ethics are called for when working in an online community? Are statements made before an online community of 30,000+ people in the public domain? Or is more explicit consent required? Julia makes a stand for strong ethics around consent: "what our participants tell us, knowing that they're already participating in a study, counts... it gives them autonomy to decide what they disclose and what they don't disclose based on the fact that it's going in a research study." Patrick is a post-doctoral researcher at Kyoto University, currently studying global yoga in Japan. Have a look at his upcoming conference, Yogascapes in Japan (Nov 2-3 in Kyoto), or follow him on Twitter at @psdmccartney. Finally, Julia (15:05) asks the eternal question: what is love? And what can anthropology tell us about love, in our own cultures or around the world? "How has our culture shaped this notion of having what is described as our 'other half,' or even a 'better half' sometimes, especially if being in a partnered or even a polyamorous relationship doesn't mean co-dependence, or even romantic love?" Patrick muses, "I adopt a very kind of queer epistemology in general... when thinking about how love brings people together, I can't help thinking about that kind of pathological side of love." If Tibetan philosophies of non-attachment made passionate love to high-level business acumen with a hefty dash of bodymind connection, and raised their resultant love child on a steady diet of craft beer, traditional foods, mountain living, yoga, and snow skiing you'd have, Makenna Johnston.
