Everything in our culture tells us that what you need is "out there". It's beyond you. Outside of you. It's the water we've been swimming in. What if what you wanted wasn't outside of you, but rather already within you- you just had to remember it? It has been a crazy couple of weeks filled with anxiety and uncertainty all over the world with the spreading of COVID-19. In some ways, the entire world is grieving and processing this together--which is both super comforting and very strange. If you’re anything like me, you have felt a wide range of emotions in the past week, going from feeling like “it’s all going to be okay” one moment to full blown panic a few hours later. Maybe that’s why a post on Instagram from one of my friends and mentors, 5 Things to Do When You Feel Like You’re Going to Spontaneously Combust (https://www.instagram.com/p/B9sYR4TpvjQ/) .” And I thought, “Yes, actually, that is how I’m feeling right now. I feel like I might combust." I knew that I needed to get Alison on the podcast ASAP because we all need some serious coping tools right now. Listen in!   Five Takeaways from Alison Faulkner Stop trying not to panic and just panic. Get out of your head by moving your body. Laugh (because contradictory feelings CAN co-exist!) Mediate, only after you’ve done one of these other things. Reach out and help.   Announcement! Today’s episode of 3 in 30 is brought to us by (https://www.rebelgirls.com/pages/podcast) , an amazing podcast for kids that you need to know about, particularly in light of the fact that you might be spending a lot of time at home with your kids right now. My kids love listening to podcasts during their quiet time, and this is one of their absolute favorites. It explores the lives of extraordinary real-life women in the form of fairy tales. Each episode features the story of a different female pioneer, creator, champion, leader, or warrior from history, and each episode is also narrated by an inspiring rebel woman who is changing the world today. To inspire the little rebel girl (or boy!) in your life, go and find (https://www.rebelgirls.com/pages/podcast) on your favorite podcast player!   Links Mentioned in Today’s Show: Awesome with Alison Podcast (https://thealisonshow.com/podcasts/) Ep. 46: Finding a New Normal (https://thealisonshow.com/podcasts/ep-46-whats-a-new-normal-and-tips-for-adjusting-to-it/) Ep. 24: I'm Freaking Grateful: Gratitude Practice (https://thealisonshow.com/podcasts/awesome-with-alison-ep-24-im-freaking-grateful-a-gratitude-practice-to-help-you-love-your-life/) Ep. 103: A Gratitude Practice for Loving Your Body (https://thealisonshow.com/podcasts/ep-103-a-gratitude-practice-for-loving-your-body/) The Alison Show on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/thealisonshow/) Rebel Girls Podcast (https://www.rebelgirls.com/pages/podcast)   Other Episodes You Might Be Interested In: 116 Transcript: Accepting & Reframing Anxiety // Becky Higgins & Becky Proudfit (https://3in30podcast.com/116-transcript/) 118: How To Raise Confident Children // Marilyn Faulkner (https://3in30podcast.com/captivate-podcast/118-how-to-raise-confident-children-marilyn-faulkner/)

Marilyn Faulkner raised five rockstar children, helped her husband start multiple companies, got a Masters degree when she was 45, and published three books (with her next book due for publication in July). She spreads wisdom and laughter everywhere she goes, and she shares some of both on this week’s episode. (I dare you to listen to the entire 30 minutes without laughing aloud.) She is the mother of Alison Faulkner from TubbyTodd.com (https://tubbytodd.com/) . She also has three incredibly smart and successful sons who may or may not be able to keep up with their sisters in a dance contest. I’m waiting to see that. I met Marilyn at a branding workshop (https://alisonsbrandschool.com/events/june-29-2018-lindon-ut-build-an-awesome-brand-workshop-copy/) several years ago and immediately loved her. So when a podcast listener asked me to get a grandma on the podcast who could give us some “looking back” advice, I knew just who to ask. I wanted someone who would give us more than the trite “enjoy every minute” advice that we so often hear, and I knew Marilyn would deliver some true wisdom. Three Takeaways This is one of my favorite episodes to date, so listen in as she teaches us how to raise confident children by… 1) Limiting our criticisms. “You can’t build a wall by taking off bricks.” 2) Talking to our kids like they are already the intelligent adults we hope they will become. 3) Living full lives of our own, and modeling happiness for our children. Alison Faulkner is the host of the Apple Podcast Top 100 show, Awesome with Alison, founder of Alison’s Brand School, and is empowering people to build their brand with their heart. Alison is a breath of fresh air because she isn’t afraid to be vulnerable and shares everything about her life including her kids, her business, and how to manage growth when it becomes uncomfortable. Spoiler alert...Alison ends up coaching me in this episode and puts me in the hot seat when it comes to utilizing video in my business! We are talking about how our podcasts affect listeners and what it takes to take the next step forward in your business.  It’s time we all start living an awesome life that we love! What we’re talking about Are You Taking Inspired Action Or Frantic Action? Learning How To Live In The Moment Caring More About What You Want & Having An Affect On One Person Are You Taking Inspired Action Or Frantic Action? When we are faced with a decision and need to take action, Alison recommends asking yourself if you’re taking inspired action or frantic action. Frantic actions come from a place of lack, of scarcity, of the idea that you have to be more, do more, and achieve more. Inspired action is when you ask yourself “What do i have to give? What do I want my days to look and feel like?”. You should stop and ask yourself if you are trying to take frantic action to validate something?  Learning How To Live In The Moment As moms, Alison and I know a thing or two about Frozen and Frozen 2! Alison says our biggest life lessons can be taken from these two movies, with the biggest one being that sometimes we need to just let it go! We need to focus on enjoying each step and living in the moment instead of being focused on getting to the next big step. Part of enjoying each step is truly enjoying the hustle, but not simply hustling for the sake of it being the thing to say you’re doing. It’s important to recognize the type of work you enjoy doing because that’s the work that is going to bring you the most success.  Caring More About What You Want & Having An Affect On One Person As podcasters, it’s easy to forget that there are truly people out there listening to what you are recording alone in your closet. Alison shares a story of a letter from a listener in which the odds seemed against her when it came to her business. The listener felt that Alison was speaking directly to her so many times, that she decided to launch her business and found success...success that she felt she owed to Alison. Changing the world is about having an effect on one single person. It’s important for us to recognize the impact we have and how much stronger that impact can be when we actually enjoy the work we do.  Are you slowing down to reflect on the work you’re doing and the life you’re living? Alison Faulkner is a writer, speaker, and “self-proclaimed nonsense dancer,” who knows all about “walking in the messy middle.” She has worked with Fortune 500 companies and has been creating content for over 10 years. She built a business on throwing 900 person female dance parties, and found that the behind the hoopla, she was crashing and burning.  When she couldn’t figure out how to scale the business and preserve her sanity, she took a step back and started doing the things she wanted to do. Thus, The Alison Show was born, as well as Alison’s podcast Awesome with Alison and Allison’s Brand School. Now, she’s not ashamed to share the times “she break downs and cries under her desk, the times she fails, the times she wants to quit.” Even after a recent car accident, Alison has been pushing through the pain to embrace possibility. Alison’s mantra is: Only you can be you, and you’re already as awesome as you need to be.

She spreads wisdom and laughter everywhere she goes, and she shares some of both on this week's episode. I'm waiting to see that. I met Marilyn at a branding workshop (https://alisonsbrandschool.com/events/june-29-2018-lindon-ut-build-an-awesome-brand-workshop-copy/) last November and immediately loved her. So when a podcast listener asked me to get a grandma on the podcast who could give us some "looking back" advice, I knew just who to ask. I wanted someone who would give us more than the trite "enjoy every minute" advice that we so often hear, and I knew Marilyn would deliver some true wisdom. This is one of my favorite episodes to date, so listen in as she teaches us how to raise confident children by...  1) Limiting our criticisms. "You can't build a wall by taking off bricks."2) Talking to our kids like they are already the intelligent adults we hope they will become.3) Living full lives of our own, and modeling happiness for our children. To read the full transcript, click here (https://3in30podcast.com/28-transcript-confident-kids/) .  Show Notes -Marilyn Faulkner's books: Back to the Best Books: How the Classics Can Change Your Life (https://www.amazon.com/Back-Best-Books-Classics-Change/dp/1453508104/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524582153&sr=8-1&keywords=back+to+the+best+books&dpID=51ECte3D1dL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch) The User-Friendly Book of Mormon: Timeless Truths for Today's Challenges (https://www.amazon.com/User-Friendly-Book-Mormon-Challenges/dp/1462118437/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1462118437&pd_rd_r=FM7P2HGSY474YBFDNAX3&pd_rd_w=Vay25&pd_rd_wg=CBeqc&psc=1&refRID=FM7P2HGSY474YBFDNAX3) The User-Friendly Old Testament: A Modern Approach to Ancient Scripture (https://www.amazon.com/User-Friendly-Old-Testament-Approach-Scripture/dp/1462120105/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1462120105&pd_rd_r=RP50JZX32VWKADW9RTVT&pd_rd_w=7fEhx&pd_rd_wg=dCrrk&psc=1&refRID=RP50JZX32VWKADW9RTVT) -Resources referenced in the episode: (https://www.amazon.com/Habits-Highly-Effective-People-Powerful-ebook/dp/B01069X4H0/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1525066884&sr=1-2&keywords=seven+habits+of+highly+effective+people) by Stephen Covey Podcast episode about specific ways to praise your children with Tony Overbay: https://3in30podcast.com/praise/ (https://3in30podcast.com/praise/) (https://www.amazon.com/Manners-Guide-Rearing-Perfect-Children/dp/0743244176/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1525066910&sr=1-1&keywords=Miss+Manners%27+Guide+to+Rearing+Perfect+Children&dpID=51LiXhmY8SL&preST=_SX218_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch) by Judith Martin Alison's Build an Awesome Brand Workshop: https://alisonsbrandschool.com/workshop/ (https://alisonsbrandschool.com/workshop/)

How do I know her audience is actually "engaged"? Well, when she hosts events, they often sell out in minutes. And when she posts a vulnerable photo on Instagram, they get thousands of likes and tons of comments. This woman has mastered the art of creating genuine connections online, and in this interview she shares how she did it -- and how you can, too. In our News Roundup this week, we talk about the EU's action against Apple with regard to its Irish tax arrangements; Facebook's firing of the editors who used to handle its Trending Topics section, and the somewhat predictable results; and the news from the first day of German tech trade show IFA, which kicked off on Wednesday. Our Question of the Week this week is a little different, in that instead of asking each other questions as we usually do, we've brought a guest on. Alison Faulkner is the creator of the Alison Show, who's an event producer, a writer and an Instagram and social media personality. We had Alison on because she knows far more about social media and making money on social media than either of us do (she has over 80,000 Instagram followers and 15,000 YouTube subscribers, among other things). Aaron interviewed Alison – who happens to be a neighbor of his – and asked her about what she does, how she does it, and the business of social media. Our third segment is a preview of Apple's event next week, at which it's expected to unveil the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2. We round up the various rumors and reports of what will be announced, add our own predictions, and talk about the importance of how Apple positions some of the expected changes, including the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack, new cameras, and more. Lastly, we wrap up with a Weekly Pick, which is a movie recommendation from Jan. As usual, you’ll find some links to related content as well as other ways to listen to the podcast on the website at podcast.beyonddevic.es.
