680 Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
I started to think a lot about music when I knew I'd be talking to Chuck D, the rapper and frontman of Public Enemy. Some critics point to the group as a revolutionary voice in hip hop. Chuck D and Flavor Flav formed Public Enemy in 1985. Their songs became known for political messages on albums like Fear of a Black Planet. But in the decades since becoming a legendary rapper, Chuck D has developed his talent as an artist illustrating 3 graphic books. His latest, Rap Pilates, is about the exercise he credits with helping him to perform high-energy concerts. We talk about drawing, creativity and changing the world. “Now What?” is produced with the help of Steve Zimmer, Lucy Little and Jackie Schwartz. Audio production is by Nick Ciavatta.

prt performed at 50 years of hip hop celebration in trenton. Poor Righteous Teachers was a hip hop group from Trenton, New Jersey, founded in 1989.[1] Often referred to as PRT by its fans, Poor Righteous Teachers was known as a socially and politically conscious hip hop group, with musical content inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths. Wise Intelligent, as the lead MC, was the most visible and well known member of the group. Culture Freedom provided vocals and production, and Father Shaheed served as a DJ and producer. About.com ranked the group's lead MC, Wise Intelligent, number five on its list of the 10 Most Underrated Rappers, calling him "one of the most creative MCs of our time."[2] PRT debuted in 1989 with the release of the single "Time to Say Peace" b/w "Butt Naked Booty Bless." The trio released its first album, Holy Intellect, in 1990,[3] amid a number of similarly pro-Black albums such as Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet, X-Clan's To the East, Blackwards, and Brand Nubian's One for All. While not as commercially successful as these albums, Holy Intellect received critical acclaim and spawned the group's only major radio hit, "Rock Dis Funky Joint." PRT returned in 1991 with its second album, Pure Poverty.[3] The album was not as commercially successful as its debut, and was not as acclaimed. The lead single "Shakiyla (JRH)", became a minor rap hit that year. The group's third, and possibly most successful release to date, Black Business, was released in 1993.[3] Sales were once again limited, but the album was a critical success. The album's lead single, "Nobody Move", received little radio airplay. After a three-year hiatus, PRT returned as a group in 1996 with its fourth album, The New World Order.[3] Released in a new Hip Hop era, the album received little attention, failing to reach the Billboard 200 album chart. The album's lead single, "Word Iz Life", was barely able to reach the Hot Rap Singles chart, peaking at the chart's lowest position, #50. Despite the lack of significant attention, the album, like its past releases, received significant acclaim. In 2001, Poor Righteous Teachers dropped the rare underground release Declaration of Independence.[3] In 2006, Cha-Ching Records released Rare & Unreleased, a compilation of rare Poor Righteous Teachers songs and remixes.[4][5] PRT had a short feud with rapper YZ over reels of tapes that YZ would not give back to their owner, PRT.[6] Father Shaheed died on May 26, 2014, from a motorcycle accident.[7] References[edit] ^ Huey, Steve. Pleasure Muse: Mary McLeod Bethune Tantalizing Trivia Mary McLeod Bethune was not satisfied until Black girls were educated and free. Born in South Carolina to parents of enslaved Africans, she was the 15th of 17 children. She worked the cotton fields with her mother and each afternoon, walked 5 miles to school to learn to read. Even then, she said she knew there was a calling on her life, a divine mission. She said, “For I am my mother's daughter, and the drums of Africa still beat in my heart.” She started early. She went to Bible school in Chicago, served in a Christian mission and started outreach to prisoners. Of her mento there, she said, ““I was so impressed with her fearlessness, her amazing touch in every respect, an energy that seemed inexhaustible and her mighty power to command respect and admiration from her students and all who knew her. She handled her domain with the art of a master.” She moved to Florida to start a school. She raised money by making sweet potato pies, ice cream and fried fish and the students made ink for pens from elderberry juice and pencils from burned wood. That one room school house turned into Bethune-Cookman University, but she served as president for 20 years. She said, “I considered cash money as the smallest part of my resources. I had faith in a loving God, faith in myself, and a desire to serve." She rode that wave of victory to global prominence as “The First Lady” of the Black Planet; founded the National Council of Negro Women in 1935, established the “Black Cabinet” as national advisor to president Franklin D. Roosevelt and the only Black woman to help charter the United Nations Unveiled in 1974, today, there is a 17 ft bronze statue of Bethune in a public park in Washington, D.C. It is the first monument to honor an African-American or a woman on the national mall. I rest satisfied with what I can do now to make the world better. I live a life that is steeped in satisfying moments. I will follow my bliss and surf my satisfaction. Which wave is calling you today? Wait for it. Not that one. Not that one. Connect and feel. Not that one. Wait for it. That one! Ride your own wave. The one that feels good and holds you steady. The wave of a good job, a rich experience, a nurturing relationship, a communal service. Your wave is coming today. Ride it and feel the rapture of being fully alive and satisfied. Prayer for Pleasure Dear God, Call me. Make it clear which wave I should ride. I want to be satisfied with this one precious life. I want the exhilaration of being snatched up in satisfaction.
