Muriel Wilkins is founder and CEO of Paravis Partners and advisor and coach to C-suite executives. She is also the author of Leadership Unblocked and host of the Harvard Business Review podcast Coaching Real Leaders. In this episode we discuss the following: What often holds us back as leaders isn't the ability to grasp some new tactic. Rather it's the beliefs we hold about ourselves. Many of the mindsets that helped us succeed early on—like needing to be involved in every detail, always being right, or not being willing to make a mistake—can hold us back later. Overcoming our limiting beliefs starts with curiosity: noticing when we're frustrated or blocked, asking what belief might be driving that feeling, and challenging whether it's still true.

What if a story that's haunted you for years… was never true? In this short but powerful episode, we dive into a jaw-dropping true story that will make you question the narratives you've been carrying — especially the ones that have shaped your identity and decisions for years. It's the story of Derek Sivers, entrepreneur and author, who spent 16 years believing he had ruined a woman's life in a devastating car accident. The guilt became part of who he was — until a shocking encounter revealed the truth: the story he'd built his life around was never real. And that revelation opens up a much bigger conversation for all of us as freelancers and solo professionals. What beliefs are you holding onto that no longer serve you? What if the story that's limiting your potential is a lie you've been telling yourself for years? Key Takeaway: We all carry stories about ourselves, our worth, our abilities, our mistakes. But sometimes, those stories aren't rooted in fact. They're rooted in fear, shame, or incomplete information. And they keep us stuck. When we challenge those narratives, we create space for healing, growth, and a more empowered future. Listener Challenge: This week, carve out 15 minutes to reflect on a belief or story you've been carrying, especially one that weighs you down. Ask yourself: Is it 100% true? Where did it come from? What would change if I let it go?

Tango can bring up all kinds of doubts—the kind you don't always say out loud.In this episode, I reflect on three mindset shifts that helped me move through quiet insecurity: the pressure to look a certain way, the myth that leaders always know more, and the moment musicality stopped being abstract and started feeling real in my body. This isn't a how-to. It's a reflection on what it means to feel behind, and how we begin to come back to ourselves. If you've ever questioned your place in tango - or wondered if you're doing it “right” - this one's for you.

Zach and Annie continue their deep dive into the complexities of relationships, trauma, and identity. After their last conversation, Annie had some lingering thoughts—so they reconvene to expand on the "divine setup" in marriage, the role of trauma in shaping our sense of self, and the ways we either grow or get stuck in our relational patterns.Annie shares powerful insights on why we choose the partners we do, explaining that we often marry someone who fills a need or answers a question we have at that time in our life. But what happens when that need is met, or the question shifts? Zach brings in his own experiences and observations from working with couples, exploring how marriage evolves not just once, but over and over again. They also tackle the difference between trauma and complex trauma, the ways we develop "superpowers" to protect ourselves, and the challenge of learning to let our partners be good for us when we've been wired to expect the opposite. Whether you're interested in why your marriage looks the way it does, how past experiences shape present relationships, or how to create a new map for your future, this episode is full of thought-provoking and deeply personal wisdom.Key TakeawaysThe "Divine Setup" in MarriageWe often choose partners who offer us something we were missing—whether it's adventure, security, or stability.Trauma vs. Complex Trauma Trauma is often a single event with a clear "before and after." Complex trauma is long-term, shaping how we see ourselves and how safe we feel expressing our true identity. Annie explains that marriage can provide a corrective experience, but only if we recognize our ingrained patterns and choose to challenge them. The "Superpowers" That Protect Us—And Hold Us Back Many of our best traits are actually survival strategies we developed to stay safe in childhood. Zach and Annie discuss how intuition, flexibility, and people-pleasing can be strengths—but also barriers to real connection. The work in marriage (and therapy) is to identify what we're protecting—and learn how to let our full selves be seen. Learning to Let Your Partner Be Good to You If someone has grown up in an unsafe environment, trusting a good partner can feel terrifying. Annie shares how she spent years interpreting Matt's kindness as a trick, until she consciously changed the way she listened to him. Expanding the Map: How We Create a New Reality Our early relationships give us a "map" of how to do life—but that map can be outdated. Zach introduces a thought experiment: Can we imagine a different future for ourselves? Megan is an award-winning expert in women's leadership and empowerment. Her notable career spanned two decades as a corporate executive, but she is also a successful entrepreneur. Megan is the Founder and CEO of Women Rising, where she helps women achieve clarity, build confidence, and become authentic leaders. She also beautifully blends inner work into this work. In the fourth episode of the Upgrade series on Food Heals, we dive deep into the myths and fears that fuel imposter syndrome and keep us from achieving our full potential. Today, we're going to debunk five common fears that hold us back from our greatness, so we can overcome the imposter monster for good and leave our fears in the past. While we often focus on healing the physical body here on Food Heals, by talking about functional medicine, food, supplements, etc., we also need to address our emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being to truly heal. That's why I'm so passionate about overcoming imposter syndrome! One of the biggest fears is worrying about what others will think. It's just part of life that people will judge us, but how we respond is what matters. Instead of letting their opinions stop us, we need to focus on those who support and understand us. Remember, be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. Another fear is the fear of our own greatness. Marianne Williamson nailed it when she said our deepest fear isn't that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. When we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. We're meant to live in truth, love, and abundance, not to play small. We also fear being exposed as a fraud. It's about changing our mindset and embracing our authentic selves. When we're genuine and accept our imperfections, we connect more deeply with others and build a supportive community. It's impossible to be a fraud of oneself. Another common fear is thinking others are already doing what we want to do. Your unique perspectives and experiences make your contributions valuable. There's enough room for everyone to succeed, and adopting an abundance mindset can help you move forward with confidence. Lastly, there's the fear that we're not expert enough. But remember, if you've lived it, you're an expert in it. Your life experiences and the knowledge you've gained from them are incredibly valuable. You don't need a degree to validate your expertise. By facing these fears head-on, we can overcome imposter syndrome and achieve our dreams. So, let's leave those fears behind and step into our greatness together in the Upgrade Mastermind. UPGRADE is a High-level Mastermind for Purpose-Driven People, Creators, Influencers, Entrepreneurs, and Rebels who refuse to settle for the ordinary, are ready to live without limits, and want to upgrade their health and wealth together. Old habits can be hard to break, whether it's the foods we eat, the media we consume, or any pattern that may not serve us in the way that gets us where we want to be. Our guests this week took a look at their lives and found that doing the hard work of change was key to breaking unhealthy patterns and through faith and prayer, they kept at it, which ultimately produced lasting and rewarding results. Our first guest, Erin Loechner, discusses how we can reverse engineer some of the ways that social media and technology hold our undivided attention and how she personally applied these principles to her own life and to the lives of her children, resulting in more connectivity with each other and the world around them. Later, we'll hear from Dusty and Erin Stanczyk, of www.EatMoveRest.com, who discuss what it means to be more intentional in our approach to the foods that we eat, and how they overcame troubling health issues and found physical and spiritual healing. And if we were going to do that, we were going to need to model that for our kids.” - Erin Loechner “Something we started really early on with our children was looking around and looking in our community and finding those natural influencers in our lives, and recognizing that they offer and hold deep experience that we might never encounter otherwise.” - Erin Loechner “Everyone holds a story. Everyone holds so much knowledge and wisdom at their fingertips just through lived experience, and we are constantly pointing our kids to people in real life, rather than Google or Siri or Alexa.” - Erin Loechner “Let's learn from the best. Let's grow from the best. Let's find those people in our lives that have things to share that will add value in a way that screens really can't.” - Erin Loechner “Rather than filling our medicine cabinet with orange vials, we started stocking up on new superfoods every time we'd come home from the grocery store and figuring out how we could implement them. And realizing every colored food has a different benefit. It was just really exciting for us.” - Erin Stanczyk “We only have one body. And God created us in His image, in His likeness. So why would we not do everything within our power to nurture it and nourish it? So eat, move, rest your best, essentially.“ - Erin Stanczyk ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Nate is a holistic health and personal growth expert, empowering individuals to thrive mentally, physically, and spiritually. His upcoming book, The U You Never Knew, delves into the neuroscience behind trauma and transformation, making it accessible to everyone. We explore how trauma can show up in relationships and how understanding these layers can lead to healing and deeper connections. Nate shares his wisdom on how trauma can be a catalyst for growth and transformation, empowering us to rewrite our stories and step into our power. In our conversation we talk about: Understanding Trauma isn't just in the mind; it can manifest physically in our bodies. Tips on loving yourself that are key to healing from trauma. How to carry a strong vibration that attracts positive energy and healthy relationships. Balancing our sensitive nervous systems is crucial for healing. Introducing practices like the 3-3-3 method that can help rewire our habits. Reconnecting with our intuition and learning to trust our decisions is essential for healing and growth. Trauma can be a heavy burden, weighing us down in our relationships and preventing us from fully connecting with others. In this episode, Nate and I unravel the complexities of trauma and its profound impact on our ability to love and be loved. We explore how these layers of trauma can hold us back, but also how they can be a catalyst for profound healing and growth in our relationships.
