Steve Klabnik joins Doc Searls and Shawn Powers to talk about Rust. Rust, which was started at Mozilla, has grown to become one of the world's most relied-upon and fastest growing programming languages. Klabnik literally wrote the book on Rust. In the show, he visits how it differs from C++ and other alternatives, some of the many ways it is used, the large and familiar names (e.g. DropBox) that depend on it, the community culture around it, how open source and free software work are changing as we move toward a post-COVID world.

Happy New Year! From a request from a longtime frirend of the Deadpod - I've decided to celebrate the end of 2020 with this fun and raucous show from NYE 1982. I'll present this one over the next couple weeks and hope can feel and enjoy the fun that the band and everyone in attendance had on this special night 39 years ago. The first set which we'll hear this week is a bit short, but still well played and tight. Garcia's voice is a bit creaky but he makes up for it with some very nice work on the guitar. A long 'C.C. Rider' has Mathew Kelly sitting in, but I believe Brent adds much to this one (and throughout the set). 'Cumberland Blues' is for me the highlight here as Jerry really brings some nice licks. Brent delivers a short but nice 'Far From Me', Weir is forceful as usual on 'Cassidy' and a bit screechy at times on 'Looks Like Rain' but these are fine versions. 'Ramble On Rose' always brings a smile, and a 'Day Job' to end the year seems quite appropriate. Oakland Auditorium Oakland, CA 12/31/82 - Friday One Cold Rain And Snow ; C C Rider ; Cumberland Blues ; Far From Me ; Cassidy ; Ramble On Rose ; Looks Like Rain ; Keep Your Day Job You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod010121.mp3 A word of thanks for your kind support over the holidays and throughout this last, difficult year. I very much appreciate your kindness. May these songs fill the air with much joy and well being this next year! David Downs, author of 'A Mild Touch of the Cancer', joins Jo and Sue on this inspiring episode. Back in 2017, David was living an ordinary life in a regular neighbourhood with his wife and three boys. Life changed drastically overnight when after a month-long battle, with what David thought was a touch of the 'mild flu', was indeed diagnosed as a significant dose of cancer. David immediately started on his treatment plan with a large dose of optimism, but along the way, listened to his odds of survival drop from 80%, to 25% to then just 5%. And when all treatments were exhausted in NZ, he had the opportunity to travel to America to be part of a CAR T-cell therapy trial - which thankfully, was a huge success. Cancer is a scary diagnosis for anyone, and often people go through the stages of the SARAH model, Shock, Anger, Resistance, Acceptance, then Hope/Healing. David believes the 'C' word is not a taboo and should not to be whispered, therefore he talks 'loudly' and 'proudly' of Cancer. Join Jo, Sue and David as they chat mindset and techniques to help face and get through the challenging and darkest of moments. David shares his 3 step self-warming technique that involves Anticipation, Realisation and Reflection - a tool we can all use to enhance our everyday lives.

On parle d’environ 200 combattants. »
