Stewardship - My Commitment to God Luke 9:57–62 2 Corinthians 8:5 Our lives should be about finding the ones Jesus loves and giving them the gospel. What is STEWARDSHIP? Stewardship is the proper management of my life in order to enhance God's Kingdom. It is the recognition of His Lordship in my life. Giving Information • 5% of churchgoers tithe (Church Development). • Out of the 247 million U.S. citizens identifying as Christians, 1.5 million people tithe (Sharefaith). • 77% of tithers give more than 10% (Health Research Funding). • If every Christian tithed 10%, faith organizations would have an extra $139 billion each year (Health Research Funding). Average Giving Per Person in Church • The average giving amount per churchgoer is $17 per week (Health Research Funding). • That's $73.67 a month per giver. • That's $884 a year per giver. • U.S. Christians collectively make $5.2 trillion annually — nearly half the world's total Christian income (Health Research Funding). • Even though inflation rose in 2022, church giving also increased by 3.6% (reachrightstudios.com). Tithers only make up 10–25 percent of any congregation (Nonprofit Source, 2018) 8/10 people who give to churches have zero credit card debt (Nonprofit Source, 2018) Religious giving is down about 50% since 1990 (New York Times, 2016) On average, Christians give 2.5% of their income to churches. During the Great Depression, they gave 3.3%. (Nonprofit Source, 2018) Of families that make $75,000+, only 1% donated 1/10 of their income Reasons Not to Preach on Stewardship We are not in a budget crunch. Stewardship is not about raising money, it is about God raising His children. People will get upset and leave. The church will grow financially as it grows numerically. John Maxwell “Church Giving: The last thing to arrive at church and the first thing to leave.” COMMITMENT is NEVER an Automatic Process. Jesus is Asking for a Commitment Today from you about you. He wants you to commit your time, your talents, your treasure, and your testimony. 1. Count the Cost TIME TALENT TREASURE TESTIMONY 2. Bear the Cross First – proton (s) (first in order of importance) TIME TALENT TREASURE TESTIMONY 3. Follow Immediately “Let ME FIRST” TIME TALENT TREASURE TESTIMONY

Today we visit with Jeff & Alesa Miller, US MIssionaries with the Assemblies of God. They work in the mission of Church Mobilization connecting churches in need with those who can meet those needs. Jeff & Alesa Miller Jeff & Alesa have known each other for 43 years and will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in June 2023. They pastored for over 30 years before going into their current ministry. The couple have planted churches and served in all sizes of ministries, from tiny churches to mega churches. Church Mobilization Jeff & Alesa serve as US Missionaries with the Assemblies of God in the Church Mobilization Department. They work with both the Kansas & Oklahoma Assemblies of God Districts to assist them with projects that the churches/ministries in those districts might have. They travel, meeting with Pastors, Churches and District Leaders sharing the mission of Church Mobilization. Church Mobilization covers three aspects: RV volunteers, Church Teams, and Church Development. We simply connect ministries with needs with people that can meet those needs from clerical to construction, While working on projects ourselves as well. Passion Through the program Jeff and Alesa are passionate about helping local churches be as strong as they can be. They strive to make connections, from Clerical to Construction, and focus on mobilizing the church for ministry. Some of the connections they have made include: mechanics, carpenters, plumbers, beauticians, dentists, creative designers, website developers, worship leaders, piano players, tech teams, and much more. They believe in taking the hand of someone a little ahead in your journey and someone a little farther behind you and marching together. This is an example of mentoring at its finest. Every need that a church as we believe is already inside the church walls, it just may be the church down the street or across the state. - Alesa Miller Rise up Soldiers! Churches are better together. It is time to rise up and be a team of soldiers. When we think of the harvest, we think, “We've gotta have workers”. Harvest time is when we have to work the hardest. Farmers work the hardest when it is time to harvest the crop. They have a limited time to bring in the harvest and in farming communities you can see neighbors and communities working together to aid in the harvest. We can learn a lot from this example. It is time to set aside our differences and come together for the good of the Kingdom! How can you step up to use your giftings in a way to help build the Kingdom? In episode 003, I talk about how churches in surrounding communities worked together in unity. We are all striving to reach the same destination. We can all benefit from a little help along the journey! If we are going to see the harvest, we have to have a place to plant the harvest first with fertile soil. We need volunteers to help aid churches in being the best they can be in their neighborhood. If they need a bathroom remodeled, others can step up to help in the construction, painting, and cleaning. While this is happening there may be other members helping with office work or even outreach or children's ministry. Are you willing to pay the price to see one person get to know Jesus? Is God Calling You? Is God nudging you to step out and do something today? Don't wait for a net to catch you. Trust that God will open the doors that you need Him to. What is the Holy Spirit prompting you to do? He is asking you” Do you trust me?” Reach out to Jeff & Alesa Miller to find out how you can connect and get involved in the ministry of Mobilizing Churches for Ministry. “What are the essential qualities of a healthy growing church, regardless of culture and theological persuasion?" Christian A. Schwarz and a team from Institute for Church Development in Germany sought to answer this question by conducting a three-year study, where 4.2 million people from over 1,000 churches within thirty-two countries responded. In today's episode, Merle Shenk and Larry Kreider discuss the findings—known as the eight essential qualities of a healthy church—that are documented in Natural Church Development. 8 Essential Qualities: Empowering leadership Gift-oriented ministry Passionate spirituality Functional structures Inspiring worship service Holistic small groups Need-oriented evangelism Loving relationships Quotable Quotes: "If you understand the family, you understand the Church." "You don't have to have all the answers. You just have to be a Holy Spirit hinge." "People don't want to be a project." Mentioned in Today's Podcast: Natural Church Development by Christian A. Do you attend church? Is church something that you used to attend? Luke Edwards is Associate Director of Church Development for the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Luke has written a book called “Becoming Church: A Trail Guide for Starting Fresh Expressions”. Luke's work and writing address the reality that church is changing. The default model of a bunch of people in a big room facing the front which has become a stage is not the only way of gathering. Fresh Expressions helps people who are interested in gathering, but may not be interested in church as we have known it. We had a great time speaking with Luke and we are grateful for people who have gone up ahead on the trail.
Today on the Interview, we have the honor to host Luke Edwards from Charolette, North Carolina. Luke is the Pastor of King Street Church, a network of fresh expressions in Boone North Carolina, He is the Associate Director of Church Development for the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and a trainer for Fresh Expressions US. Bob Pritchett started creating Logos Bible Software at the age of 19, as a continuation of a project he did in his Bible class at school to help with homework. Recently, they’ve begun moving into development of software to provide any software a church could need to run, as well as providing countless resources to churches that have shifted to largely virtual platforms following the onset of COVID-19. On today’s podcast conversation, our founder and CEO William Vanderbloemen spoke with Bob about the resources that Faithlife produces that have been particularly helpful during the pandemic. Previously, many churches didn’t use church websites, online giving, or live streams, and in the past year have needed resources to adapt. As COVID-19 accelerated changes, Faithlife was able to step in and help with live stream and virtual solutions for many churches. Bob also shared his tips for how pastors can use technology to nurture and engage their church communities.

In 2020, Rev. Williams accepted the call to serve as Associate Director for Mission, Service, and Justice for the Missouri Conference. But the journey that took her from her American Baptist roots to the United Methodist tribe can be traced back to her childhood. Hear the stories that influenced her to full-time ministry, the heart God gave her for healing the wounds of racism and what she envisions for the office of Mission, Service and Justice in 2021. About Rev. Williams: A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Rev. Williams has celebrated ties to United Methodism that go back to her childhood days. However, her vocational story within the Methodist tradition began in 2009 as a layperson invited to serve in Church Development for the Indiana Conference. This journey eventually led her to answer the call to ordination and three appointments to serve the local church in a multi-area, multi-ethnic charge in Indianapolis. During her tenure in Indiana, Rev. Williams resourced more than 200 congregations in both English and Spanish speaking contexts, she helped launch and lead conference strategies for transformational ministry with new and existing faith communities; and she became a sought-after leader among the network of developers and general agency partners across the Connection.

As leaders, it's crucial that give direction in times of crisis. In Crisis, leaders have to listen better than they've ever listened before. There are two parts to being a confident leader:Knowing that God is with you.Developing your personal character, skills, and traits."The formula for disaster is when you don't do anything with what you find out needs to grow and change.""Self leadership is the essence of character development."Sometimes we overcomplicate coaching. Hear about the rapid growth of the church and how provision had to be made for administering to the needs of the congregation. See how a progression of leadership began to develop and what plurality of elders means. Understand that what is important is that there be a shepherd to teach the flock and those who can support him with all the other functions that must be provided.
