Cindy Eckert, entrepreneur, investor, and the central figure in the new Paramount+ documentary The Pink Pill: Sex, Drugs & Who Has Control. The documentary film examines the decade-long, uphill battle to get the first FDA-approved medication for female libido, Addyi, approved and brought to market. Directed by Aisling Chin-Yee, the film highlights the stark contrast between the fast-tracked approval of Viagra for men and the intense, often biased scrutiny faced by advocates of "female Viagra.” Eckert fought for 10 years to bring Addyi to market, facing regulatory roadblocks and public skepticism, ultimately revealing systemic gender bias in healthcare. Cindy Eckert is a highly regarded entrepreneur, a strong advocate for female entrepreneurship, a pharmaceutical leader and one of the few women to have ever sold a company for a billion dollars. The New York Times called her pharmaceutical product the “drug of a generation” and Fortune called her a “tireless force of nature.” Associates of hers call her unapologetically pink.Over a distinguished 24-year career in healthcare, she started and sold two businesses for more than $1.5 billion. Having co-founded and sold Slate Pharmaceuticals, which redefined long lasting testosterone treatment for men, she launched Sprout Pharmaceuticals immediately thereafter. As Co-Founder & CEO of Sprout, the company broke through with the first ever FDA-approved drug for low sexual desire in women named Addyi — dubbed “female Viagra” by the media. In 2015, Cindy sold the company to Valeant Pharmaceuticals for $1b cash. Everyone that was a part of the original Slate team was gifted shares in Sprout.Shortly after the sale, Valeant became the subject of media scrutiny for the rampant price inflation of their drugs and an SEC investigation related to accounting practices. Not one to sit idly by, Cindy negotiated to reacquire Addyi at no cost, in order to properly launch it into marketplace on her own terms. Not only did she reacquire the drug, she also secured a $25m loan from Valeant to fund initial operating expenses.Today, Cindy is focused on mentoring, investing in, launching and building other women-led or focused businesses. In 2016, she opened the doors to The Pink Ceiling — a cross between a VC firm, a ‘pinkubator,' and a consulting enterprise — where she is CEO. At The Pink Ceiling, she has personally invested $15m across 10 different health tech companies at various stages of development.Cindy's work has been featured in countless major publications including The New York Times, Fast Company, Financial Times, Vanity Fair, Bloomberg, CNBC, CBS, Fox, Yahoo and on the cover feature of Entrepreneur Magazine. Cindy has been an invited speaker at Fortune's Most Powerful Women, the Fast Company Innovation Festival, Ad Week, Inc. Magazine, and many more. She is on a mission to speak to as many women as possible about what it takes to achieve breakthrough business success. It's no surprise that JJ Ramberg, the host of MSNBC's Your Business says that “Cindy is one of our favorite guests. Though she has reached a level of success as a founder that most can only dream of, she is incredibly relatable and honest about what it takes to run a business. She offers the perfect combination of inspiration and advice and it's hard to come away from listening to Cindy speak without wanting to hear more.”https://thepinkceiling.com/ Podcast Link: https://link.chtbl.com/FemTechFocusSocial HandlesLinkedin: @FemTech Focus @Brittany BarretoTwitter: @Femtech_Focus @DrBrittBInstagram: @FemTechFocus @DrBrittanyBarretoFacebook: @FemTech Focus @Dr. Brittany BarretoFemTech Focus Bio:FemTech Focus is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded to bring awareness externally and internally for the FemTech industry and to empower the key stakeholders including entrepreneurs, investors, physicians, governments, and biopharma with resources and research to elevate women's health and wellness globally. Show Notes: Cindy Eckert is going to make you rich. She's sold two businesses for more than $1.5 billion, so she knows a thing or two about building things from the ground up and making money in the process. Now, with her work in The Pinkubator, she helps women break barriers by investing in women founders to level the playing field and shatter the glass ceiling for good. We cover everything from building a billion dollar business to women's sexual health (and everything in between). You're going to want to hear this conversation. Question Highlights: How did your entrepreneurial journey get started? How did you get interested in women's pleasure? What were the belief systems you had to break and unlearn to become the woman you are today? What are some of the bad habits you've had to break along the way? What skills do women need to build to be successful in business? Guest Bio: A self-made serial entrepreneur and vocal advocate for women, Cindy defies convention in her industry, in her companies, in her outcomes. Her work today, in The Pinkubator, continues to break barriers by investing in and mentoring other women to get to her same outcomes. She's on a mission to make women really rich. You cannot miss Cindy. Everything she touches turns to PINK! Over a distinguished 25-year career in healthcare, in only the last ten years, she has built and sold two businesses for more than $1.5B. First Slate Pharmaceuticals (which redefined long acting testosterone treatment for men), then Sprout Pharmaceuticals (which broke through with the first ever FDA-approved drug for low sexual desire in women – dubbed “female Viagra” by the media). After selling the company for $1 billion in 2015, she successfully fought to get the drug back and launch it on her own terms. Cindy has made waves and her own success, creating mission driven companies that deliver big. Her results have become widely covered business success stories featured in major media outlets. She is most proud of helping others take command of their lives. The profoundly positive impact those companies have made for people is what keeps her coming back for more.

IT'S TIME TO “THINK PINK” ON THIS WEEK'S EPISODE! Cindy Eckert is a DEAR FRIEND, and has become an important ANGEL INVESTOR, SERIAL ENTREPRENEUR, WOMEN'S HEALTH ADVOCATE, AND A VISIONARY HEALTH TECH CEO. Whether you're a man or a woman, if you've ever had even the faintest glimmer of walking away from your current job and starting your own company, you're going to absolutely LOVE Cindy Eckert's story and what you can LEARN from her. You're all familiar with what Viagra does for men, but I'll bet not too many of you know Cindy is the one who got FDA approval for Addyi, the first drug designed to enhance female libido. After FDA approval, she sold her company, Sprout Pharmaceuticals, to Valeant for a cool $1 BILLION. It wasn't her first company sale either, having previously sold another start-up for $500 MILLION. Here's the fascinating part of Cindy's story. As part of a lawsuit settlement against Valeant, she reacquired Sprout and the rights to Addyi for next to nothing after Valeant's stock collapsed by 80% due to insider trading and price manipulation allegations. People like Cindy can't sit still for very long. So, she launched a “PINKUBATOR” and a VC/consulting firm called the PINK CEILING as a way of leveling the start-up and entrepreneurial environment for women. Cindy has a wealth of KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE you're going to want to tap into. In our ENERGETIC interview, Cindy and I talk quite a bit about the DNA required to be an entrepreneur, how to overcome INEVITABLE SETBACKS, and the MINDSET you need to have in a start-up company, Most important of all, Cindy stresses that to be successful as an entrepreneur, everyone in your company has to have “SKIN IN THE GAME.” We also get into the need for establishing the right CORPORATE CULTURE and why treating customers like GOLD is one of the foundational keys to SUCCESS. If you're an owner, CEO, or you have management responsibilities where you work, Cindy's INSIGHTS on finding, hiring, and managing people is something you must hear. Those of you who are ENTREPRENEURS searching for more CAPITAL for your business need to pay particular attention to what Cindy looks for when she's investing in someone's business. Cindy may be well known for the PINK outfits she wears every day, but her advice is TRUE BLUE, and you owe it to yourself to hear what she has to say. Be sure to grab pen and a notepad and take a lot of notes for this one.

Ellevate Podcast: Conversations With Women Changing the Face of Business
On this episode, Cindy Eckert, Founder & CEO of Sprout Pharmaceuticals and The Pink Ceiling, talks about how she got her start in the male-dominated healthcare industry, the gendered narrative around sex and sexual health, as well as her journey as an entrepreneur. Cindy shares her own startup journey from raising funds to selling her company for 1 billion dollars, to becoming an angel investor and starting her "Pinkubator" for fellow female industry disruptors.
Cindy Eckert is an entrepreneur who built and sold two pharmaceutical companies, notably Sprout Pharmaceuticals, creator of “female Viagra,” for more than $1B. She subsequently founded The Pink Ceiling which invests in companies founded by, or delivering products for, women. Some interesting insights from this episode: Moving every year during her childhood taught her how to be comfortable being uncomfortable. This experience of constant change would lay the foundation for the rest of her life. While she had been surrounded by incredibly smart and hard working people in prior companies, she knew in her heart they weren't any smarter or harder working than she was, so why not take a chance on herself. She initially got turned down by the FDA for her drug for female low libido but rather that accept the verdict, she had the guts to challenge the FDA which eventually led to a reversal of their decision and approval for the drug. After just four short years from the time she first purchased the drug, following the FDA approval, she sold the company for a billion dollars. Culture is very important. Her company is the land of the misfit toys and they actually hire for quirkiness. There is permission to bring your entire self to work and to be respectfully irreverent. She tries not to get too obsessed with where things will lead. She's just focused every day on getting up and doing a great job and creating value. “I fail every day. Failure is just part of the test of how committed you are to the venture.” “Empathy is the female DNA of a rule breaker.” “Success isn't about having all the answers. It's about having the courage. If you feel you need to have all the answers, you'll never succeed at entrepreneurship.” “Why do we treat our career like a ladder? Why can't it be a jungle gym?”

Get tickets to the Reckless Event below https://ynr.la/Drama-Live Cindy Eckert of The Pink Ceiling and creator of Addyi (dubbed female Viagra) sits down to discuss her career in the pharmaceutical industry. Cindy has an amazing ability to have a vision and choose the right decision when it matters most. That ability resulted in the sell of a $1B company.
Cindy Eckert (formally Whitehead) is the founder of a Sprout the first pharmaceutical company to develop Addyi, the first female Viagra. In the mid-2010s, Cindy sold her company to a bigger pharmaceutical company but soon found she made a mistake. The program Pinkbator is searching for women entrepreneurs wanting to improve the lives of women and the world in general. Cindy is very passionate about her mission and the company she built. She takes me on the journey of Slate (her first pharmaceutical company), Sprout, and finally The Pink Ceiling, She tells me about her billion dollar exit and how her purchaser disappointed her in the end. Cindy was so disappointed by her company’s “adopted parents” that she sued for the right to take the company back. I ask her how she managed it and she credits creative deal structuring and a great legal team. She won the case and built The Pink Ceiling, a business incubator that is dedicated to empowering, educating, and giving women entrepreneurs a chance to grab capital opportunities. What you will learn: Why Cindy became an entrepreneur Why she gravitated to pharmaceuticals Cindy’s fascination with women’s sexual health and why it is important. The beginning of Slate and how it led to Sprout. How to “Be the Workhorse.” The qualities Cindy looks for in her team. The danger of having the wrong partner and being selective about investors. Why you should be accountable to investors. The benefits of an awesome legal team. The stipulations Cindy included in her sale agreement when she sold Sprout. How those stipulations helped her win the company back in court. The Pink Ceiling and Cindy’s view of the future. Takeaways: You need to know what you are passionate about and what you want your company to be. Then you need to align your passion and vision with your investors, employees, and eventually potential buyers. Maintaining this alignment makes all the difference with whether you will be pleased with a sale or not. Links and Resources: GEXP Collaborative The Pink Ceiling About Cindy: A self-made serial entrepreneur and vocal advocate for women, Cindy Whitehead-Eckert defies convention. In her industry, in her companies, in her outcomes. Her work today in The Pink Ceiling/Pinkubator continues to break barriers by investing in and mentoring other women to get to her same outcomes. She’s on a mission to make women really rich. You cannot miss Cindy. Everything she touches turns to pink. Over a distinguished 24-year career in healthcare, in only the last 10 she has started and sold two businesses for more than $1.5B. First Slate Pharmaceuticals, which redefined long-acting testosterone treatment for men then Sprout Pharmaceuticals which broke through with the first ever FDA-approved drug for low sexual desire in women — dubbed “female Viagra” by the media. After selling the company for $1B in 2015, she successfully fought to get the drug back and launch it on her own terms. Cindy has made waves, and made her own success, creating mission-driven companies that deliver big. Her results have become a widely covered business success story featured in major media outlets. She is most proud of helping others take command. The profoundly positive impact those companies have made in people’s lives is what keeps her coming back for more.
This is The PinkCast with Cindy Eckert! In this episode I wanted to take a quick minute to introduce myself, and give you a taste of what you'll hear while listening to my show. As some of you know, I sold my last company for a billion dollars… that's right, billion with a “B”. After that exit, I wanted to reach back and pull other women to get to the same success I was so fortunate to experience. So I started The Pink Ceiling, where we not only invest money but roll up our sleeves and strategize as these startups get ready to launch. Our Pinkubator companies are female founded or female focused health tech startups. In the last two years, I've invested over $15 million! My work has taken me all across the country and I want to share with you unfiltered access to some of the most colorful people I feel fortunate to call friends. They are all characters and I'm so excited for you to meet them. A few of the superstar guests I'll have on with me is the amazing model & body activist Ashley Graham, master Chef Fabio Viviani, Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec and much more. Hope you enjoy the conversations as much as I do! If you do, please subscribe!
