Events that happened on November 6 This Day in Baseball history. November 6 , 1887 Walter Johnson was born on this day in 1887. Considered by many to be the greatest right-hander in baseball history, Johnson was the hardest thrower of his time. He was a phenomenally successful pitcher on often terrible Washington Senators' teams. As a veteran, he anchored the only Senators' World Series winning club, in 1924. He and Christy Mathewson were the first pitchers inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was known as the “Big Train” and in later years, upon seeing Bob Feller throw his hard one, Johnson admitted that he had thrown harder in his day. Johnson is the greatest player to ever play for the Washington Senators, debuting on August 2, 1907, against the Detroit Tigers and Ty Cobb. “He's got a gun concealed about his person. They can't tell me he throws them balls with his arm.” – Famed writer Ring Lardner wrote of JohnsonSam Rice tells the truth about game 3 of the 1925 World Series - On November 6, 1974, the contents of a letter written by the late Sam Rice to the Hall of Fame are revealed in Cooperstown, New York. In the letter, Rice, who had instructed the letter be opened after his death, says that he did successfully make a disputed catch in the 1925 World Series.Bud Selig goes toe to toe with the players association - November 6, 2001 — Denying it's a negotiating ploy, major league owners give commissioner Bud Selig the authority to “begin the process” of eliminating two ‘to be announced' teams by a 28-2 vote. Donald Fehr, the Players Association executive director, calls the action of possibly eliminating the Expos, Twins, or Marlins most imprudent and unfortunate, and the worst manner in which to begin the process of negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement. We had hoped that we were in a new era, one that would see a much better relationship between players and owners. Today's announcement is a severe blow to such hopes.November 6, 1950, Branch Rickey signs a five-year contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates after selling his 25 per cent interest in the Brooklyn Dodgers' franchise. On October 26, Rickey had resigned as Brooklyn's president, giving way to Walter O'Malley. Rickey will serve as the Pirates' general manager and executive vice-president. The ‘Mahatma's' magic doesn't seem to work, as the Bucs will compile a 269-501 record (.349) during his tenure in Pittsburgh.

There may not be any football to look forward to, but there are some hot topics to discuss in the sport, as well as, everything else that's happening as this midweek podcast is one you won't want to miss. On deck: (3:28) As NFL games with any meaning won't be in our consciousness until September, I'll put to bed a couple of debates that have taken place since the Super Bowl this past Sunday. After his second championship in four years, is Patrick Mahomes the GOAT at the quarterback position? I don't think so at the moment. It's way too early to put him there, but I have a SIZZLING TAKE on him going into the Hall of Fame if he never played another down in his career. Is Andy Reid a top-10 coach of all time after winning another Super Bowl? The Eagle fans are still bitter as to why the slick field in Arizona slowed down their vaunted pass rush. Seriously? There were some coaching hires as former offensive and defensive coordinators (i.e. Jonathan Gannon & Shane Steichen) of the Eagles go to the Cardinals and Colts respectively. Why those were questionable in my eyes? And Derek Carr has become a free agent as he was released by the Raiders. Where is his next stop? Did someone say the Steelers? (24:50) The end of the 'first half' of the NBA season is approaching as the All-Star Break begins tomorrow. No shock, but why All-Star Weekend doesn't pique my interest? I'll review what has taken place to date in the Association. My surprise and disappointment so far (you'll be shocked as to who my disappointment is and I have receipts to back it up) Then does home court in the playoffs really matter? Not to Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, as he stated recently. Why I think it still matters, despite some instances that'll refute the question? (40:07) With a Stadium Series game set for Saturday in North Carolina for the NHL as the Capitals will visit the Hurricanes, it'll be without one of the sport's great stars as Alex Ovechkin will be out indefinitely due to the passing of his father in Russia. How soon will he be back, considering that there are no direct flights from North America to that part of the world? How will his absence affect their chase for a playoff spot? There's also a new executive director for the leader of the players union as Marty Walsh will take over for Donald Fehr, who's held the title since 2010. And I'll go through my over/under point totals of the year, which is looking pretty dire considering this is my first go round predicting these numbers when it comes to competition on the ice. (48:44) College basketball is going to be as unpredictable as ever. We're just a month away from March Madness and another #1 team bites the dust as Alabama loses to #10 Tennessee last night. Is there any clear cut favorites as of today to get to the Final Four? (50:42) Pitchers and catchers are reporting in Arizona and Florida as baseball is back on the scene. I can't stand that the runner on second base in the 10th inning is returning this year and beyond in the regular season only, thank goodness! Met fans are familiar with this movie, Jacob deGrom has to be held back for precaution as he felt tightness in his left side. Hmmm! On the subject of pitching, the Yankees rotation has taken a couple of hits as Frankie Montas may be out for the year as he'll need shoulder surgery and Nestor Cortes may not be ready for the start of the regular season as he deals with a hamstring issue. This week, the Consig made a call to the West Coast, and a Pittsburgh guy answered.  THIS IS THE SHOW.  Dave Dameshek (@Dameshek), an outstanding media personality and podcast host on the Extra Points Network, joins Dave, Carl & Neuby with the Yinzer guy edition of the Cash Considerations Show.Listen as Dameshek tells the boys his story from growing up in Pittsburgh, PA to writing comedy in Hollywood.  Post a decorated high school athletic career and after school at that other Indiana, Dave's fate was changed by one goal by another Dave, specifically David Volek.  Onto to Chicago, Dameshek did his thing in sales until he figured that office life was not his thing.  In LA, Double D honed his craft writing comedy with the likes of Adam Corolla and Jimmy Kimmel.  Grinding for 20 years on the West Coast, Dameshek is now co hosting shows on the Extra Points Network, including Extra Points with Cousin Sal. A storyteller with Pittsburgh roots and the accent to prove it, Dave D is on his game, from the Pittsburgh escapades, the fruit breakdown and a little deep dive into the parking situation in the Burgh.  Apples and jagoffs aren't the only thing the two Pittsburgh guys agree on, but you don't want to miss any of it.Dameshek stays to talk sports with the boys, and Dave called for THE SONG to lead things off.  Dameshek never heard THE SONG so that prompted a discussion about team songs.  Neuby went right back to 1979, and like we always say on THE SHOW, we talk about sports, gambling and family.  It's everything but the Stargell Stars, then a Fly Eagles Fly, and Carl can only think of one to describe the Red Sox right now, and it's not Dirty Water.  Baseball bon dia, bon tarde, bon noche comes next.  You don't have to be a big baseball nut to listen to these baseball thoughts as Dave asks CH and Dave D about the pennant races and who they are looking to bet down the stretch.  Popcorn, peanuts and Cracker Jack are baseball snacks, and the guys go back and forth without a rain delay before getting to the main course.Coming off a rousing debut last week, Neuby gets you "In the Gun" for the football talk.  Who is going to win the AFC South & the NFC West?  He gives the other guys the odds and asks who is going to win, but more importantly, is there any reason to bet them with those odds?  Shooting from the hip, Dameshek fires away with a couple season win thoughts, CH looks for a way to work Brady in, and Dave says it's Titans to lose.  NFC West has everybody stymied but man, its a good conversation.  Football is back.Lastly, the coordinating producer/social media manager/co host Carl H-A-S-C-A-L-L had one question on “Carl's Corner” segment of the show.  What are your go to snacks when you watch sports?  The answers will make you hungry. Neuby went to an old standby, Dave went a little nuts, Dameshek broke down a big nut and introduced Shek's mix to the world while CH got his popcorn ready.  An all timer in Carl's Corner this week.As it always does, The Take a Minute segment closed the show on Cash Considerations.  Neuby pulls out the penny slots , CH thanked Donald Fehr via Big Papi, Dameshek buckles up and bings for a whole minute, and Dave said something about jagoffs, fights and milk crates.  One minute each and bet the over for laughs.Sit back, listen in & laugh a bunch to this special August snacks episode of the Cash Considerations podcast. Follow the show @CashConsidShowFollow Dave @SportsBkConsigFollow Carl @CarlHascallFollow Neuby @NeubyTalksFollow Dave Dameshek @DameshekEmail us at CashConsidShow@gmail.com

The ALL ME® Podcast  Tom Davis – 2005 MLB Congressional Hearings Following the March 2005 Congressional Hearings of the use of anabolic steroids in Major League Baseball, some people will tell you that those hearings changed the game forever.  Many people have asked along the way, “why did the Government get involved with steroids in Major League Baseball?”  In this episode we're going to be speaking with Congressman Tom Davis.  In 2005, Davis was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia's 11th District and the Chairmen of the House Government Reform Committee.  Davis realized that there was a problem in Major League Baseball with their players using anabolic steroids, but what struck him the most was the rise in young people also using these dangerous drugs.  Together he and Representative Henry Waxman wrote a letter to MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and executive director for the MLB Players Union, Donald Fehr, letting them know there would be a hearing.  Davis said “the model baseball provided for youth…for good or ill…. would be the main point of the hearing. This interview between Congressman Tom Davis and Taylor Hooton Foundation Founder, Don Hooton, will give you an inside look into why the Congress felt the need to have a hearing and what that day was like.  You will also hear all of the positive things that have changed since those hearings, thus MLB now has the strongest testing program in all of professional sports and millions of young people have now been educated about these dangerous substances. Did You Know? Over 1.5 million teens admit to using anabolic steroids. The #1 reason young people turn to anabolic steroids is to look better. Up to 25% of Dietary Supplements are contaminated with illegal drugs and banned substances.  Find certified products here: 85% of students have never been educated on this topic.   Follow Us: Twitter:  @theTHF Instagram:  @theTHF Facebook: Taylor Hooton Foundation #ALLMEPEDFREE Contact Us:  Email:  Phone: 214-449-1990
