On today's show I chat with Emily about her three births. Her first planned homebirth, through the community midwifery program, unfortunately ended in a somewhat traumatic transfer to hospital. Emily then had to do a lot of work to unpack the fears left behind from that experience for her next birth, which was at home with a private midwife. She went on to have the birth of her dreams that she describes as leaving her on a high for years to come. When she consciously conceived her daughter, she originally had planned to have the same midwife, only to realise midway that she actually didn't need anyone to birth her baby, and so began her journey to freebirth. We chat about the challenge she faced when her waters broke and meconium was present, and why her husband was not onboard with the idea of freebirth to begin with. Instagram: @consciousmothersgroup Podcast: @heymumma_ YouTube link: https://youtu.be/-dA63ixlN7I Course: Freebirth Society
Today on the show I speak with the bubbly and gorgeous Emily Patterson. Emily has had a homebirth transfer, a homebirth with a midwife and then a freebirth. Emily at the start of her 3rd pregnancy wasn't “there” to straight out decide on a freebirth. The further she got into that pregnancy though, she realised that a freebirth was right for her and she respectfully decided to no longer continue care with her midwife who she loved dearly. She ended up having an amazing, joyful and perfect freebirth. I think it's important to point out that, you don't have to have had a “bad” experience to decide on freebirth (although also this can be the case). Quite simply for many woman it is just in alignment for them to take 100% responsibility for their birth. We also talk about the pathologising of posterior babies and how can be very unhelpful. Emily has had a long labour with a posterior baby but also a short and simple labour with a posterior baby. Emily is a joy to talk to and I love her vibrant and upbeat energy! Enjoy our convo! More about Emily: Emily is a mama of three to two boys and a girl, with a passion for conscious, gentle and respectful parenting. She is an early childhood educator, with a Bachelor of Education and Masters in Special Education, but has stepped away from the system and developed a home school program with a conscious, natural and un-schooling approach to education. Her biggest lessons, knowledge and understandings have come from motherhood as she see's motherhood as a spiritual practice with lifelong opportunities to expand, grow and uncover all parts of ourselves as we reparent ourself! She also trained as a doula at the age of 18 and although she stepped away from this as a career she developed a passion for birth which led to her recent free birth.
