3. No puedes cambiar tu vida si no estás dispuesto a perder tu antigua identidad. In this episode of the Mind Shift Podcast, Aaron McManus and Erwin Raphael McManus host a Q&A session with their Mind Shift online community, diving into a range of thought-provoking topics. They discuss how to prioritize creative projects, especially when energy is limited, with Erwin advising that tackling the least enjoyable tasks first can help free up motivation for more inspiring work. He emphasizes the importance of pursuing opportunities rather than obligations and warns against falling into the perfectionism trap, where endless tweaking is driven by fear rather than genuine improvement. Deadlines, he explains, are crucial for knowing when a project is complete, and releasing something before it feels perfect is often a necessary part of growth.A discussion on compatibility in teams leads Erwin to challenge the common understanding of the term, arguing that likability is often the true key to compatibility. When people genuinely enjoy working together, they naturally become more adaptable. In volunteer-based or inherited teams, fostering an authentic connection can help create a stronger, more cohesive dynamic. When asked about maintaining calm in crisis situations, Erwin highlights humility and gratitude as stabilizing forces that prevent emotional spirals.Communication becomes a focal point as the conversation shifts to relationships, with Erwin explaining how the seven frequencies can be used to create deeper intimacy. He emphasizes that understanding the meaning behind words and interpreting different communication styles can significantly enhance relational depth. When a listener asks about sharing grand visions with family members, Erwin advises breaking down ambitious ideas into specific, tangible steps. Using his own experience of launching a fashion brand during the pandemic, he illustrates how clear, digestible goals help make bold ideas more believable and achievable. The conversation takes a compelling turn when a listener asks about masculinity and the role of rites of passage in shaping strong, confident men. Erwin expresses his belief in the necessity of these cultural milestones, arguing against the modern concept of toxic masculinity. Instead, he highlights virtues like honor, nobility, and enlightenment as essential traits for men to embrace. He shares his vision of mentoring young men and helping them develop confidence and strength in a way that is constructive and empowering.Another listener asks about handling aggressive political opinions in public spaces, prompting Erwin to reflect on the psychology behind aggression. He explains that hostility often stems from fear or ignorance and advises against taking it personally. He suggests focusing on principles rather than personalities, staying composed, and engaging in dialogue only when it is truly productive. As the episode nears its conclusion, a listener asks what led Erwin to start his own church rather than joining an existing model. He shares that the decision came from a deep commitment to his non-negotiables—faith, community, and creative freedom. Rather than conforming to a structure that didn't align with his values, he sought to pioneer something unique. He encourages others to define their own core values and use them as guiding principles when making significant life and career decisions.Aaron and Erwin close the conversation by inviting listeners to engage more deeply with the Mind Shift community. They emphasize that growth comes from learning, dialogue, and collaboration, urging members to invite others into the space. This ongoing conversation is not just about personal development but about building a collective that fosters deeper thought, creativity, and transformation.

In the latest episode of "The Mind Shift Podcast," Aaron McManus and his father, Erwin Raphael McManus, take a moment to reflect on a year filled with both personal and professional challenges. Despite the trials, they emphasize the transformative power of resilience, forgiveness, and living with intention. The episode opens with a candid discussion about their personal struggles throughout the year, including Erwin's health scares and family conflicts. These experiences, while tough, highlighted the importance of resilience—bouncing back stronger and wiser from each setback. Erwin dives deep into his leadership philosophy, which centers on living a life so compelling that it inspires others. This principle is not just about achieving success but about making meaningful impacts that resonate beyond one's immediate environment. They discuss how this approach has been crucial in navigating the complexities of running a church and influencing a diverse community. The conversation shifts to a critical analysis of redundancy in organizational structures. Erwin points out that while redundancy is often seen as a negative or an excess, it is essential for efficiency within any organization. It ensures that the necessary functions are performed smoothly without constant oversight, which is particularly vital in times of crisis or when quick adaptation is required. On the topic of relationships, especially within the context of social media and modern communication, Erwin stresses the importance of assuming the best in people. This approach fosters a culture of encouragement and support, which is vital for building strong, healthy relationships. The discussion also covers the complex nature of forgiveness, which they agree is crucial for personal peace and the development of any long-term relationship. Addressing the creative process, Erwin shares insights into how humility and the willingness to find common ground can significantly enhance collaborative efforts. This mindset not only applies to personal interactions but is also essential in the political sphere, where polarized opinions often lead to gridlock rather than progress. By the end of the podcast, the McManuses call on their listeners to approach life with gratitude, embrace the lessons learned from their experiences, and look forward to engaging in more enriching discussions in future episodes. They underscore the significance of these conversations in cultivating a life marked by intentionality and significant impact.

On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I'm thrilled to welcome back the ever-inspiring Erwin McManus. Erwin's insights have always left a profound impact on me and our listeners, and today's episode promises to be no different. We kick things off by reminiscing about a pivotal moment from two years ago when Erwin didn't sleep for two days and received his revolutionary concepts about the seven frequencies of communication. This all started from an intense, transformative weekend during which Erwin visualized and identified these frequencies.  Our conversation dives deep into the idea that communication goes beyond words—it's about frequencies that we emit and receive. From how dogs understand commands to the lonely frequency of a whale, Erwin's analogies set the stage for a broader understanding of human interaction. We explore how identifying and expanding one's communication frequencies can foster deeper connections. Erwin introduces us to the seven distinct communication frequencies, starting with the “Motivator,” which brings energy and inspiration, and the “Challenger,” which pushes people to their potential. We also delve into other frequencies like the “Professor,” represented by figures such as Andrew Huberman and Malcolm Gladwell, and the “Seer,” a visionary frequency personified by Steve Jobs. We discuss how these frequencies impact not just personal relationships but also team dynamics. We share personal anecdotes, such as how recognizing a team member's true frequency can lead to higher performance and empowerment. Erwin even recounts how understanding his own maven frequency paved the way for pioneering changes in church settings. We then touch upon the concept of “shadow frequencies,” where authentic traits can morph into negative counterparts under stress or insecurity. Lastly, we discuss the importance of big conversations, future-oriented thinking, and the transformative power of communication frequencies for healing and growth. This episode is a treasure trove of insights, reflections, and actionable advice that can revolutionize how we understand and practice communication. Welcome to our Groundtable Series “Living With A Settled Soul” This episode of the Groundtable series explores the concept of living a peace-aligned life. It encourages listeners to dive into the Scriptures to create a life of freedom and inner peace. The episode discusses what a peace-aligned life looks like, including living in harmony with God, oneself, others, and the world around us. It also emphasizes the power of choosing disciplines and rhythms in life to break free from cycles of worry, anxiety, and stress. The episode aims to inspire listeners to seek a deep sense of inner peace, contentment, and purpose through the Scriptures. Living With A Settled Soul: Podcast Episode Summary Living in harmony with God, yourself, others, and the world around you. Knowing you have the power to choose disciplines and rhythms in your life to get unstuck from cycles and patterns of constant worry, anxiety, and stress. Having a deep sense of inner peace and contentment. Being able to handle life's challenges with grace and ease. Living a life of purpose and meaning. Making a positive impact on the world. When we consider creating a life we love, consider the Scriptures tell us, “When we know the truth, it sets us free.” Freedom is a state of being able to act or choose without constraint. It is the ability to live one's life without being subject to external control or interference. There are many different types of freedom, including: Physical freedom: The ability to move around and do what you want without being physically restricted. Mental freedom: The ability to think and believe what you want without being constrained by external forces. Emotional freedom: The ability to feel and express your emotions without being controlled by them. Spiritual freedom: The ability to connect with your inner self and experience a sense of peace and well-being. Freedom is essential for a fulfilling and meaningful life. It allows us to grow and develop as individuals, and to make our own choices about how we want to live. How can you begin to increase freedom in your life: Set boundaries: Learn to say no to things that you don't want to do. Take risks: Step outside of your comfort zone and try new things. Be yourself: Don't be afraid to express your true self, even if it's different from what others expect. Live in the present moment: Don't dwell on the past or worry about the future. Focus on enjoying the present moment. Be grateful: Take time each day to appreciate the good things in your life. Help others: Give back to your community and make a difference in the world. Freedom enters in where Truth becomes the anchor! Remember it's when we KNOW the Truth that we are set free! This is why God encourages us in His Word to renew our minds and if we choose that as our daily discipline, this becomes a rhythm. Our lifelong journey to wholeness is not designed to be lived in isolation. Although life can be lonely at times, we are never alone. Jesus promised to NEVER leave us or forsake us and He is faithful to provide others who reflect His love throughout our lives. We have found a fulfilling life is one that is lived in a life-giving community with others. On that note, we encourage our listeners to grab a friend and invite them to join the conversation with you! “What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.” That reference is of course a line written by William Shakespeare from the play Romeo and Juliet to convey that the naming of things is irrelevant. But, I want to explore that.  My friend has a theory that asking someone “how did you get your name?” is an noninvasive way to hear about their origin story and a way to learn a lot about them. It taps into past generations of humans with how we are given our names - while it is a seemingly benign question, it possibly can be an astute window into the stories we tell ourselves about our lives. My guest for this episode, Erwin Raphael McManus, speaker & author of “Mind Shift” has a very unique name as well as backstory so I thought he'd be the perfect person to test this hypothesis.  Throughout the episode he answers questions like… If your name wasn't given with meaning, how do you bring meaning to it? What do you do if you don't like your name? Do women lose parts of their identity in taking their husband's name?

This week dig into the archives from a message from 2014. A Tribute to Robin Williams by Erwin Raphael McManus: "I had the beautiful privilege of running into Robin Williams years ago. He was gracious and kind and warm and deeply human. He was also the funniest person I have ever encountered in my life. He was funnier in a spontaneous 10 minutes on the way to the men's room than most are on stage delivering their best material. What struck me most was how generous he was with his time and how he genuinely enjoyed bringing people happiness. If you can love a person you don't know I have always loved Robin Williams. He made my life better. He made me better. His roles inspired me and elevated me. How tragic that a person would chose to end a life that the all of us treasured as a gift. Robin, if you could have only known how you made us feel... How you made us better. How your laughter healed us. You are a great loss to us. Everyone should know they matter more than they know. Everyone should know that life is worth the struggle. Everyone should have someone to remind them how much we need them here with us. Too many beautiful people have come to tragic endings. May every space where humans dwell be drenched in hope and love. Captain, My Captain."

In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on ceilings and how we unconsciously make them for ourselves. “You are your own ceiling.” ~ Mindset Shift Author, Erwin Raphael McManus.  Let's talk about ceilings and how we are creating them to keep ourselves from being hurt and in the process staying small. In today's episode, we discuss: 1)The ceiling you set for yourself is an illusion, it is not permanent.  Our ceilings are created by our own mental rigidity, formed by our past experiences, perceptions, beliefs, lessons, and yes our subconscious mind.  Life is a building that has many floors, when you walk into the first floor do you see that is all there is or do you see how many more floors there are?  2) Your ceiling is someone else's floor.  “We don't soar to the level of our goals and dreams, we stay stuck at the level of our self-worth” ~ Jamie Kern Lima. 3) The person who is showing you what is possible is proof.  They have learned to raise their floor. Have you set your past on fire? In this new message pulled from 1 Kings 19, Pastor Erwin McManus challenges us to move toward the life God has designed for us. In 1 Kings 19, Elisha's life is interrupted by Eljiah as he is called to step into a new life away from the comfort of his family and home. As Elisha was plowing his field and living in the comfort of his success, he left everything behind to serve king Elijah. Pastor Erwin reminds us that often our past becomes our anchor when God wants it to become an altar. And though many of us feel as though our past failures are most difficult to move past, we're reminded that it is more difficult to leave success behind when God is calling us forward toward a life of risk . We cannot step into the future God has for us unless we are willing to light a match to it and let God build a new future from the ashes.  As we move with God, we are challenged to give up our plan B and move toward a life that is beyond our imagination.  Are you ready to let go of the past and move into the power of the future God has for you?  This message is inspired by The Last Arrow, Erwin Raphael McManus' book that calls us to save nothing for the next life.

As we wrap up this series on the Artisan Soul, Pastor Erwin McManus delivers a passionate message on Masterpiece God gave us called life. Throughout Jesus' life, he told parables, metaphors and images to show his disciples that he was going to die. But they could only interpret death in the terms they knew, which were finite. Jesus reminds us that our life is supposed to be a work of art and his canvas is the human spirit. Jesus life was a walking art installation of Life. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, he said to him I am the life. There's nothing to fear in death. There's nothing to fear in life. The only proof of life after death, is life before death and what we really long for is life before death. This message is inspired by Artisan Soul, Erwin Raphael McManus' book that calls us to reclaim our creative essence as humans.

Have you ever considered that your life is the canvas on which God wants to create? In this week's episode, Pastor Erwin McManus delivers a passionate message on our God-given ability to become God's work of art. When we allow him to paint our souls with the colors of faith, hope, love, and courage -- the possibilities are endless. As creatives, we often become discouraged by the limitations of our contracts, resources, and abilities. But if God himself is hopeful about the possibilities of human life -- His chosen canvas -- how much more must we take advantage of the canvas we've each been entrusted with. Whether we are nurses, teachers, or writers, we have the opportunity to bring an abundance of life through our personal brushstrokes on life's canvas. Pastor Erwin McManus delivers a challenging message on the importance of developing our craft. In Ephesians 4, God commands us to be creators and not to settle for consuming or stealing from others. Because we are created by God, we're meant to create and add value to the world around us through the discipline of work. As Christians, many of us have picked up the belief that if we have been called by God to do something, it should come naturally to us. On the contrary, Erwin reminds us that it is up to us to turn our talent into greatness through hard work. If you've been waiting for a moment of magic to transform your talent into greatness, be encouraged that you don't have to wait for magic -- you can start to build the momentum you long for today. This message is inspired by Artisan Soul, Erwin Raphael McManus' book that calls us to reclaim our creative essence as humans.

In this week's episode, Pastor Erwin McManus points out the fascinating way that God inhabits our lives — whether we've already given our lives to Him or not. In a conversation with a self-identified atheist, Erwin was asked how to hear the voice of God. He answered that it's the voice in your head that simply won't leave you alone. And even more, when we've given our lives to God, that voice becomes the continual invitation to an expansive life that is full of imagination. We're compelled to ask ourselves if we are engaging the creative power that God has given us to make the invisible visible. Are we engaging the ideas God keeps reminding us to pursue, or are we living small lives that are filled with fear? If you've been waiting for a green light when it comes to engaging your God-given dreams and imagination, this is it. This message is inspired by Artisan Soul, Erwin Raphael McManus' book that calls us to reclaim our creative essence as humans.

In a thought-provoking message from Pastor Erwin McManus, we discover that each of us are interpreters of life. Based on our unique experiences and beliefs, we translate the world around us. But are we interpreting life according to God's perception--or just our limited perspective? In John chapter 9, we observe that Jesus' disciples were bewildered by the healing of a blind man. They were stuck on the reasoning for his blindness. Had he sinned, or was he dealing with the consequence of his parents' sins? Then, the blind man's community continued to question his healing and if it was truly him that was healed. Pastor Erwin points out that all of the facts were clear: the man was blind before and now he could see. And though the blind man's experience spoke for itself, his healing disrupted everything the onlookers believed about God's ability to heal--and even more, his ability to heal on the Sabbath. If your interpretation of life has always led you to doubt God's nature, this message will encourage you to open your eyes to the miraculous that is working in and around you. This message is inspired by Artisan Soul, Erwin Raphael McManus' book that calls us to reclaim our creative essence as humans.

Is it possible for us to live a life free from shame? In a powerful new message, Pastor Erwin McManus challenges us to pay attention to the voices that inform our internal worlds. Are we led by voices that only remind us of our shame, or are we building a future informed by the freedom of God's voice? In Genesis 3, we lean into the story of Adam and Eve where they decide to disobey God and hide their nakedness from him. Erwin points out that God asks Adam "Who told you that you were naked?" God wanted to get to the bottom of the matter; who informed his decision to run away and hide? If you are ready to invite God's voice to take precedence in your life, this message will provide you with a pathway to turn the volume down on shame and give God the room he has always wanted to speak into you. This message is inspired by Artisan Soul, Erwin Raphael McManus' book that calls us to reclaim our creative essence as humans.

Erwin McManus brings us into a conversation on the unique design of the human soul. Compared to every other creature, we are the only ones that manifest the invisible into something tangible. We are created to create and imagined by God to imagine what does not yet exist. From Exodus chapter 2, Erwin points out that Moses was said to be no ordinary child. As he ponders this phrase, he shares that many of us feel as though we are ordinary. And though we may see others living unordinary lives--we believe that it is simply something we're not cut out for. But Erwin challenges us to think differently. What if none of us are ordinary? What if God designed us from the start to live extraordinary lives? Isn't it proof enough that no other creature wonders how they can change the mundane nature of their existence? Only humans wonder if there is more for us. What if God put that desire into the design of our human souls? This message is inspired by Artisan Soul, Erwin Raphael McManus' book that calls us to reclaim our creative essence as humans.

From Psalm 119:32, Erwin reminds us that God has set us free to run in the path of his commands. Ultimately, we learn that our freedom is only as impactful as the choices we make with it because the shape of our character is not only the shape of our future, but our character shapes the future of humanity. Ending with a raw and powerful Q & A, Erwin answers a variety of questions that define what it means to live heroically in the light of the freedom Jesus offers. From paying taxes to choosing a significant other, Erwin empowers us to live with a deep sense of character through our everyday choices. Erwin McManus takes us on a journey through his Quest for Enlightenment in his powerful Uprising series. Targeted on the value of wisdom, Pastor Erwin shares that for most of us, the wisest person in our life is not the wealthiest or the smartest. What they bring is an ability to navigate life in a way that leads to wholeness - both emotionally and relationally. In Ecclesiastes chapter 9, a man named Solomon points out a man who was poor but saved a city with his wisdom. Pastor Erwin reminds us that we often ask for resources when God wants to give us vision. What vision has God entrusted you with that you need his wisdom to navigate? Even when your resources cause you to second guess what you can achieve, this message will encourage you to trust that God's supply of wisdom is more than enough! In this message, Erwin Raphael McManus shares that if you've ever felt overwhelmed by life and can't seem to find your way through, then you've known the need for enlightenment .The Quest for Enlightenment begins with the need for wisdom. Wisdom is the ability to connect the dots, to foresee the future. Imagine if you had the ability today to make the choices that would create the future you long for? Two people can go through the same trauma and have radically different experiences. One can emerge broken and fragile, while the other emerges stronger and more resilient. The key is perseverance founded in faithfulness, which is where wisdom begins. Erwin shares that the journey of faithfulness is one you cannot take alone - it requires a community. We all fail, we all fall, we all stumble; but you need someone with you on the journey to help pick you up! You will not live a life commiserate to your dreams, talent, or ability - but equal to your level of courage. With nobility, you can be trusted with wealth, influence, and the lives of others. It begins in gratitude and finds completeness in generosity. Generous people are happier people who make the world better, while greedy people only focus on what they can take rather what they can give. Erwin reveals that despite what you can offer the world, becoming a generous person will end up being immeasurably more valuable for you as a human being than for anyone your generosity may affect. He leaves us with this question: what's the sacrifice you need to make that will make the world more beautiful? Courage begins with integrity; without integrity we will not find within us the resolve or the resilience to face the pressures of life. To have integrity is to be whole and be complete - to have nothing within you that is not true to the character you possess. Everything in your life depends on integrity to function. For example, a plane you fly in across the country must have integrity in its composition to survive the flight - nothing in it that would compromise its ability to fly. In this same vein, humanity must have integrity to live lives that are not faultless, but false-less.This message shows us that to pursue a life of truth and oneness with Jesus requires the pursuit of integrity. In this final installment to his ‘Self-Mastery' series, Pastor Erwin helps us understand one of the most valuable and precious resources God designed us both to give and to receive – our energy. Anchored in Luke 8:40-48, Pastor Erwin draws a parallel between our lives and the story of Jesus engaging a woman whose faith activated his power. Her clear intention to be healed by Jesus caused an energy transfer that Jesus not only felt, but then declared her action as showing great faith. If your life feels constantly depleted of energy, or you want to better funnel a surplus of energy in a positive direction, this talk will empower and transform you. Don't miss out on how you can achieve self-mastery and walk in God's purpose for your life, with this powerful conclusion to an incredible series! — "Self-Mastery: Energy" message by Erwin Raphael McManus recorded at Mosaic Studios in Hollywood, CA. He reminds us that seeking mastery over our thoughts is a spiritual act. God designed us to ‘take every thought captive,' so that we would not allow a negative thought to take root in our minds. Every thought that does not call us to more is not a thought that aligns with God's design for us! Part one of a new series from Pastor Erwin McManus on the importance of self-mastery. To begin the journey of self-mastery, you must first learn how to take ownership over your life and choices. When we abdicate our responsibility for our choices, we then give away our power to change our future. Out of the context of Genesis 3, Pastor Erwin relates the story of Adam and Eve and how neither took ownership for their actions in the Garden. Pastor Erwin insightfully unpacks the scriptures and the consequences of the fall of humanity away from God’s original intention. Blame was at the root of man’s separation from God, and the beginning of a history of no ownership between humanity and our creator. Though Jesus’ death in John chapter 19 could have been perceived as a moment of defeat, Pastor Erwin reveals the nuances of how Jesus gave up his life willingly for all of mankind. Jesus showed us that hope, peace and power can all be found at the cross. His death was an example of the beauty that can come from the most desolate places. Without the power and love of Jesus, there is only death. But with Jesus, you find the source of life itself.
