Schrijver Esmee Schenck de Jong debuteerde in 2023 met het autobiografische 'Omdat mijn lichaam het wil', verhalen over lust en verbinding. Ze viel meteen op door haar vrije seksuele moraal en nieuwsgierigheid naar de ander. Hebban schreef: ‘Een taboe- en genrevrije verhalenbundel om als een grote reep chocola in een enkele zitting te verslinden. Omdat mijn lichaam het wil is zowel een ode aan de vrije liefde en seksualiteit als een viering van het leven. Krachtig en fragiel, soms meer het een, soms het ander.' Schenck de Jong schreef ook voor de Volkskrant en online platform Vice, werkte in een kinderboekwinkel en was jurylid van de Zilveren Penselen.           Ze leed aan een bipolaire stoornis en schreef daar openlijk over. In 2023 overleed ze door zelfdoding.                                                                                                                                          Maarten Dallinga volgt haar spoor terug en praat met vriendin en haar redacteur bij uitgeverij Prometheus Emma Mendez Correa, vriendin Anna van Delft, halfbroer James en een stel met wie Esmee een romantische driehoeksverhouding had.
