This is the story behind the creation of the Park Hop Athletics Collection by 1923 Main Street and how a single event prompted a whole new way of thinking.Hop. Play. Repeat. This is how the Park Hop Athletics trademark collection was created. When Walt Disney World first opening in 1971, it was a much simpler place. We had one theme park (Magic Kingdom), two hotels (Disney's Polynesian Resort and Disney's Contemporary Resort) and Fort Wilderness Campground. That was it.For over a decade, we had endless fun at this original Walt Disney World. The monorail was as much a part of the whole experience as anything else. But when Disney acted to complete one of Walt Disney's final project dreams, a second park finally opened in 1982 (in fact, it was 11 years to the day: October 1, 1982).1982 Was the Year When Park Hopping Became a ThingWhen EPCOT opened as Disney World's second park, something else happened: park hopping suddenly became a reality for Walt Disney World visitors. Now, your amount of fun doubled, because you could hop from one park to another on your vacation on the same day, if you paid for the privilege. And with that, park hopping officially became part of the Disney World vacation lexicon.Being a part of this formative period in Disney World history is what led Mike Belobradic to create the Park Hop Athletics™ collection at 1923 Main Street®. Park Hopping is Fun and Has Benefits, but it isn't for Every Disney TravelerOf course, nowadays, park hopping is much more ingrained into the Disney travel experience – plus you have four theme parks that you can potentially hop between. But one thing hasn't changed: park hopping isn't for everyone. Cost aside, it does take a little stamina and will to want to park hop at Walt Disney World. Many years ago, Disney resort hotels used to present you with a special paper certificate if you managed to hop between all four Disney World parks in a single day. They no longer do this (perhaps because it isn't as big of a challenge any more, given more transportation options), but still, four parks in one day is as much a part of the park hop experience as is two parks on the same day.Park Hop Athletics™ by 1923 Main Street®: Inspired by the Magic of Park HoppingThe 1923 Main Street Park Hop Athletics Collection was inspired by that first park hop experience back in 1982. With a variety of designs that celebrate the ability to Hop. Play. Repeat.™ at Walt Disney World, Park Hop Athletics clothing is truly steeped on this longtime rite of passage. The Park Hop Athletics Collection by 1923 Main Street is comprised of graphic t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies that feature a wide range of authentic original designs, perfect for anyone who loves to take part in this time-honored Disney World tradition. In fact, if you combine rope dropping with park hopping, you can truly make the most of your Disney day. (Read the back story of our Rope Drop Apparel™ Collection here).Within the Park Hop Athletics Collection you'll find graphics inspired by Disney Park hopping in collegiate style, along with unique skateboard and snowboard themed graphics (inspired by the board parks in both sports) and even more themes, including beer and Park Hop Princesses. How's that for a wide range? If Park Hopping is something you love to do, there's a 1923 Main Street Park Hop Athletics t-shirt, sweatshirt or hoodie that's right for you.Shop at 1923 Main StreetThank you for listening to the Disney Travel Style Podcast at 1923MainStreet.com.Shop unique and original Disney-inspired clothing, including t-shirts, sweatshirt, hoodies, dresses, swimwear and more at 1923 Main Street.Follow along on X, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook.Thank you for listening and have a magical day!Mike Belobradic and Amelia Belobradic--Media provided by Jamendo
Disney's Polynesian Village Resort opened at Walt Disney World on October 1, 1971, making it only one of two opening day hotels on property (the other is Disney's Contemporary Resort; Fort Wilderness Campground opened at a month later). Inspired by the South Pacific, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort feels like its own tropical oasis on Seven Seas Lagoon (a short monorail or boat ride away from Magic Kingdom). With world-class restaurants and lounges ('Ohana, Kona Cafe, Trader Sam's and more), iconic pools, breathtaking views, a wide range of unique room options (including honeymoon suites and Bora Bora Bungalows), and a rich history at Walt Disney World, Polynesian is a fan-favorite resort. In this episode, we discuss everything you need to know about staying at this deluxe-level resort, share reasons why you might want to stay here, and offer suggestions about how to make the most of your stay. And stay tuned because our next podcast episode will feature more information specifically about Island Tower, the newest addition to this resort and part of the Disney Vacation Club portfolio of hotels. Another pre-pandemic offering that many thought was gone forever has come back to Walt Disney World. But there is one glaring thing still missing, leaving us wondering if and when this beloved experience will ever return. Bay Lake Resort Boats are Back (but there's a catch) Some people thought they'd never come back, but we had faith and believed in what Cast Members were telling us. As of this week, you can once again travel across Bay Lake between Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground on the classic original blue flag boat route. The blue flat route began operating once again on October 1, but there's a bit of a catch. Here's what you need to know: the blue flag boats will only be available to ride beginning at 3:00 p.m. daily. --The Villas at Disneyland Hotel are Now OpenDisney Vacation Club has officially opened its 16th property, The Villas at Disneyland Hotel at the Disneyland Resort. This is the fourth tower at the popular hotel. Each tower at the Disneyland Hotel has a unique name and the new Disney Vacation Club tower is named Discovery (the others are Fantasy, Adventure and Frontier). There are 344 themed rooms in the 12-floor tower, celebrating the creativity and magic of Walt Disney Animation Studios stories. In addition to the new Palette Pool, the Palm Breeze Bar will open later this year poolside. In a bit of a twist compared to pools at some other DVC resorts (like Bay Lake Tower), all Disneyland Hotel guests will be able to enjoy this new area, as well as the other two pool areas and water slides at Disneyland Hotel.--Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, Amelia and I hope that you enjoyed it. How this might affect you even if you hadn't booked Club Level there.Narcoossee's is Reopening at Disney's Grand Floridian on April 1After a seven-month closure, Narcoossee's is reopening with a new design concept of land and sea. Will the new enhancements mean for a better dining experience? We're hoping it will, but the signs are not all positive that Disney has addressed past issues at Narcoossee's. As far as the menu is concerned, it's not entirely new--which is disappointing, as the menu was a big issue. The Bisque is back, but with a new tableside presentation. There are also two new starters: the Beef and Ricotta Tortelloni (with brown butter, parsnip puree, and sultanta raisins) and the Ocean-inspired Charcuterie Board featuring ahi tuna pastrami, charred octopus, and house-made sausage from the sea. For the main course, Chef Noah's signature dish is the Blackened Redfish. This is served with a crispy chorizo-sunchoke hash with hominy, Florida sweet corn, and red pepper rouille. Plant-based dishes include a Roasted Vegetable Paella featuring market vegetables, cannellini beans, and preserved artichoke finished with charred Meyer lemon. Land-based fare includes a new Dry-Aged Pork Ribeye Chop served with creamy goat cheese-potatoes and turnips with onion jam and a touch of fig jus.Chefs have kept Narcoossee's staples like the Plancha-seared Scallops with Parisian Gnocchi and Surf and Turf featuring filet mignon and butter-poached lobster tail. The dessert course kept their trademark Almond-crusted Cheesecake with Lambert cherry sauce and Chantilly cream. New dessert items include The Berry Pavlova -- artfully crafted with Florida fresh berries and citrus delicately placed over meringue and yuzu crémeux and finished with a tableside pour of anglaise. And the Pineapple Bavarois (roasted-pineapple house-made blackberry-buttermilk ice cream). The wine list has been refreshed with pairings for each dish and the bar team has anew cocktail program, inspired by the Victorian era. Disney is touting a signature Empress Lime Gimlet, a modern twist on a classic gimlet with Empress Gin, Rockey's Botanical Liqueur, and cold-pressed lime. There are non-alcoholic cocktails as well.--San Fransokyo Square appears at Disney California Adventure Park in Summer 2023Pacific Wharf in Disney California Adventure park is transforming into San Fransokyo from Big Hero 6. It's a fictional mash-up of San Francisco and Tokyo. The story goes that ss the tech industry began to emerge and the local fishing trade fell on hard times, entrepreneurs came together to reinvent the seaside canneries into a vibrant, multicultural district of neighborhood restaurants and local shops. An iconic landmark of the area will be the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge, which will span the tide pools linking San Fransokyo Square to the Paradise Gardens Park obelisk. When the transformation is completed this summer, you'll find familiar favorites like soups in freshly baked bread bowls, plus many new Asian-inspired selections. The new Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería draws inspiration from its tri-cultural influences with signage in English, Japanese and Spanish. Outside will be a beer garden decorated with festoon lights and papel picado.--A New Theme Park and New Dates Added for Disney After Hours EventsEPCOT has been added to Disney After Hours starting on June 1 and the price does include ice cream novelties, popcorn and select beverages available at carts throughout the park. When Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park reopens this spring, H2O Glow After Hours will be back as of May 20.Disney's Hollywood Studios is adding more dates for Disney After Hours as well, starting May 3.Tickets are now on sale and the usual discounts for DVC members and annual passholders will apply.---The Villas at Disneyland Hotel Reveal First Look at Guest RoomsThe 12-story Villas at Disneyland® Hotel tower will open this September and Disney released a first look at the room themes. You'll find room themes including The Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty and The Princess and the Frog. In previous weeks we have been highlighting the 1971 Handbooks given to new Cast Members as they opened up the Walt Disney World Resort. There was a handbook for every land of the Magic Kingdom, and one for Disney's Contemporary and Polynesian Village Resorts. Make sure you check those podcasts out, as well as our show notes found on Disney at Play. But there was no Handbook written for Fort Wilderness Campground. Instead, there was a handbook put together for outdoor recreation. Some of that covered golf, part of it covered water recreation. And one small section covered Fort Wilderness--a section no bigger than the section on the wave machine that we covered last week with Disney's Polynesian Resort. We will share what they have overviewed, but moreover, we'll cover the intriguing story of how this resort got built--with little money attached. Indeed, this story resides as part of our Disney at Work program, because there are messages you won't want to miss for your own workplace or organization. Join us as we discuss the making and opening of Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground.

It’s no secret that across North America, many towns and cities are becoming increasingly anti-RV, prohibiting overnight camping anywhere except in RV campgrounds, which often charge an arm and a leg for what can often be pretty dismal campsites. Our interview of the week tells us how we can avoid such places and find lots of great overnight RV camping sites, oftentimes for free or very minimal costs. Also this week in Episode 217, your RV questions, some great RV tips and another excellent off the beaten path report from the Burketts. Show Notes for Episode #217 November 7, 2018 of Roadtreking - The RV Podcast: WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK MIKE This week we’re coming to you from our new RV, camped in the Fort Wilderness Campground at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida. JENNIFER We're attending a gathering organized by our friend Paul "Pogo" Pogorzelski, who loves Disney and tossed some dates out last spring and found 50 or so others who agreed that Fort Wilderness would be a great place to gather in early November. MIKE We are loving our new Roadtrek! It rolled out of the factory Friday and made its way straight to our Michigan driveway, where we packed it up and immediately took off for Florida. Friday and Saturday nights, we needed to run the heater. Tonight, in Florida, the air conditioning is on. It's performed flawlessly so far and we can't wait to show it to you. JENNIFER As soon as we finish the Disney World video and we get a little more familiar with all the bells and whistles on this unit, we will be doing a complete video reveal and tour. But let me say that in almost seven years of doing the RV Lifestyle now in five different Class B Roadtreks, this Roadtrek has impressed us the most in every away way possible. And we've only been in it for three days! MIKE We've asked our various social media followers to help us name this new unit and we'll probably choose one for the video reveal. If you have a good idea, send it in! This part of the program is brought to you by AllStays Pro, the best tool for RVers looking for places to camp. RV LIFESTYLE NEWS OF THE WEEK MIKE Pictures of amazing locations shared on social media can draw millions of visitors, and unintended consequences An interesting story I saw YouTube last week about the affect social media is having on various unique but previously little-known locations around the country was fascinating. As people take pictures of gorgeous places on public land they often share the picture on places like Instagram and Facebook. Those posts typically include location coordinates. So then more people visit the spot, more pictures posted, and more people decided to visit. The result is some unique spots around the country are becoming inundated with tourists before the parking lots are made, before the trails laid out, and before the bathrooms are installed, causing significant environmental damage and a slew of unforeseen troubles. We’ll put a link to this interesting story in the shownotes at Roadtreking.com/217. JENNIFER Couple who fell to deaths at Yosemite National Park were taking selfie, brother said Speaking of social media, last week in this newsletter we reported on a couple who were found dead at Yosemite National Park after apparently falling off Taft Point, with rangers investigating how they fell. This week a relative of the couple was widely quoted as saying the couple was taking a selfie. The couple, who were from India, were travel bloggers who posted pictures of themselves in sometimes dangerous situations while taking pictures to post. This is such a sad story. So many beautiful locations in national parks have no guard rails, and all it takes is a slip of the foot or an unexpected breeze to fall and literally die. One story I found reported a study on literally hundreds of deaths around the world caused by people trying to get the perfect selfie to post online. MIKE

It’s not listed in any guide maps, but it is described on the Walt Disney World website in the following manner: Great sea creatures and twinkling flags cross the lagoon to electronic tunes in this playful nighttime water parade. Before we experience this nighttime classic, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant. 1. The 15 Minute Long Electrical Water Pageant debuted on Monday, October 25, 1971 making it one of the few original opening year shows that is still running at Walt Disney World. 2. The Electrical Water Pageant consists of 14 floats which contain over 50,000 light bulbs to light up the parade’s turtles, whales, octopus and sea serpent! It is said that crews replace anywhere from 100 to 1500 bulbs a week to keep the floats in tip top shape. 3. Guests today can see the same floats in the same order dating back to 1977 4. The Electrical Water Pageant runs up to six times a night at various locations on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. Guests can watch from locations including the Polyneasian resort, Fort Wilderness Campground and Disney’s contemporary hotel. 5. The electrical Water Pageant was the inspiration behind the Main Street Electrical Parade! The music piece Baroque Hoedown which is commonly associated with the Main Street Electrical Parade was originally featured in the Electrical Water Pageant! Now it’s time to light up the night with the the Electrical Water Pageant. If you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording. And stay tuned after the audio to hear my thoughts on this attraction as you’ll be hearing my first time experiencing Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant.
