Emmy-winning comedy writer and producer Frank Santopadre, renowned for co-hosting the often Marx-focused Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast, joins us for an insightful conversation. Frank shares how he first became a fan of the team and reveals his favorite Marx film (it's not Go West, by the way). He also reflects on his time working with Gilbert, including memorable interviews with friends, family, and co-stars of the brothers. Frank illuminates the historical importance of these chats, as the number of people who personally knew or worked with the Marxes is rapidly dwindling. And yes, we'll apologize now for the detour to Skidoo.
As you're about to discover, we're doing something a little different on our channel today. We've been looking for ways to highlight and promote shows across the Writer's Bone universe and don't you know it, we've got a passionate, informed, and engaged audience right here on our airwaves, why not share stand out episodes like the one you're about to hear. Daniel Paisner has been on quite the heater on his show As Told To: The Ghostwriting Podcast. The conceit of his show is talking to ghosts like him about how they got into this kind of work, how they interact with their well known clients, what material they produce from their own imaginations, and how one goes about building a writing life in service of someone else's voice. He's talked to the likes of Michelle Burford, Frank Santopadre, Seth Davis, Amy Ephron, Jodi Lipper, Jon Sternfeld, and the granddaddy of ghostwriters William Novak. Almost a year ago, Daniel called us and said that he was in talks with Jeff Daniels to appear on the show to discuss his audible original “Alive and Well Enough.” And as an added wrinkle, this all happened during the writers' strike in Hollywood, so we couldn't do a deep dive into his oeuvre, which actually led to a more intimate, in-depth conversation. Please enjoy this conversation that originally aired Oct. 10, 2023. Also subscribe to As Told To and continue the conversation with us. Note: This episode of As Told To: The Ghostwriting Podcast features narrative and song excerpts from Jeff Daniels's audio memoir “Alive and Well Enough,” presented courtesy of Audible Originals. Originally aired Dec. 6, 2022. Frank Santopadre is a veteran comedy writer and the longtime co-host of “Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast,” with the late, great Gilbert Gottfried. Prior to working with Gilbert, Frank helped to write jokes and supporting material for numerous awards shows (including the Daytime Emmys, the TV Land Awards, and the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize). He has also written comics for Bazooka Joe bubble gum, and mock ad copy, concepts, and character profiles for the Topps Company's popular Wacky Packs and Garbage Pail Kids trading cards series. Oh, and did we mention he also wrote for Mad and Cracked magazines? And the somewhat less zany The New York Times, The Washington Post, People, US Weekly, and Politico? Along the way, he has created comedy material for an eclectic line-up of celebrated personalities, including Bill Murray, Howard Stern, Sarah Silverman, Meryl Streep, Martin Short, and Ben Stiller, and briefly served as a staff writer on what he proudly calls “the worst sitcom in television history”—a forgettable show from the late ‘90s called “Lost on Earth,” hailed by The Los Angeles Times during its mercifully-brief run as “mirthless.” Join us for a somewhat more mirth-filled hour, as we talk about what it was like to help give voice to one of the most singular voices in the annals of American comedy—a joyful burden Frank kinda, sorta shared with podcast host Daniel Paisner, who collaborated with Gilbert Gottfried on his 2011 memoir Rubber Balls and Liquor. Graciously joined by Emmy winning writer and co-host of Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast, Frank Santopadre, cohosts Dino & Mike tackle two Baltimore-based tales of redemption and hope in I Eat Movies #37: FRANK SANTOPADRE SELECTS! - The Accidental Tourist (1988) / Men Don't Leave (1990). First up, Lawrence Kasdan adapts Anne Tyler's best-seller The Accidental Tourist (1988) where William Hurt (Body Heat), struck by tragedy and living an isolated existence, glimpses a chance at a new beginning with the most unexpected of people. Co-starring Geena Davis (Beetlejuice) in the role that earned her an Oscar, the ensemble cast and tonal shifts from melancholy to quirky humor made this a critical hit deserving of more eyes on it. Next up, director Paul Brickman's long awaited (and only!) follow-up to Risky Business, Men Don't Leave (1990) serves as a complimentary drama with a stellar lead performance from Jessica Lange that came and went with little fanfare... until now. Also, Frank has prescriptions older than Mike, contrasting critical notices on Kasdan's drama from Ebert, Maslin & Kael, cinematic “big swings”, and the state of dramatic adult fare in the movies of today are all discussed in this latest helping of I Eat Movies!
GGACP celebrates the birthday of co-host Frank Santopadre (b. February 7) with this ENCORE of a wildly entertaining mini-episode from 2019, as Frank tries to stump Gilbert (and Raybone) with some oldies but goodies from his collection of 1960s-70s-era 45s. Also in this episode: the poster boys of one-hit wonders, the versatility of Mel Torme, the genius of Jimmy Webb (and P.F. Sloan!) and the musical stylings of David Soul. PLUS: Johnny Rivers! Zager and Evans predict the future! Gilbert opens for Buster Poindexter! And the tragic tale of Badfinger! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Phil and David remember the late great comedian Gilbert Gottfried -- who passed away in 2022 -- in a very special episode with Frank Santopadre, Gilbert's brilliant co-host on "Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast." Phil and David discuss their shared deep love for Gilbert's comedy and Gilbert and Frank's podcast which influenced "Naked Lunch" more than any other with its loving celebration of conversational, fun-filled storytelling about show business. Disco music had been a thing from the early 70s on, but not so much in the mainstream. Parts of the African-American, Latino and gay communities had been cherishing the music as an event - going out to dance in discotheques was the thing. There's are books that go through the history of disco music and what put that music underground. Some of the music became top forty success stories, but disco really exploded in 1977 thanks to a movie featuring a TV actor and songs by a group past their glory days. Welcome to episode 108 of See Hear Podcast. Robert Stigwood bought the film rights to a fictitious article by Nik Cohn called “Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night”. He invested $3.5M into making the film, and made sure his act The Bee Gees were going to be featured on the soundtrack. John Travolta in between Welcome Back Kotter seasons starred as a young working class man from Brooklyn who hates his job and home life, and only finds solace when dancing at the 2001 Odyssey Discotheque. The film is a great character study of what drives people and their self esteem. Kerry, Tim and I welcome first-time guest to the show, Dan Fisher. Dan has started a great new podcast called Let's Talk Ten where he and guests run off lists about all manner things devoted to pop culture. I invited him to our virtual table and Saturday Night Fever was his pick.....it triggered a great discussion, although as Frank Santopadre would say, we barely scratched the surface. The film has so many thematic elements to riff on. We cover some of those, but we also look at disco as a phenomenon (and how it influenced Chasidic music and Joe Raposo), 70s Hollywood movie anti-heroes, the violent backlash to disco music, and aspiring for something better in life. A warning: I sing – twice. We're grateful that Dan came to us with this pick and was such an active participant in the episode. It won't be his last time with us. The process of recording music in 2023 has changed drastically to what it was in the latter half of the 20th century.....sort of. Sure, musicians can go in to a recording studio with an engineer and record in a way not dissimilar to the days of old. However, as technology changed inside professional studios, it changed for musicians who wanted to get a great sound in their bedroom. Many studios couldn't compete and only their legacy remains in our record collections. ....yet, EMI Studios at 3 Abbey Road, St John's Wood, London endures. It has even been declared a national treasure. Welcome to episode 168 of Love That Album. Music fans have been treated to stories about many of the great studios in popular music history – Sun, Nashville RCA Studio B, Ardent Studios.....but arguably, the most famous is Abbey Road (as it is now called). Music journalist and broadcaster David Hepworth has written an excellent book, “Abbey Road: The Inside Story of the World's Most Famous Recording Studio”. While the most casual music fan may only be aware of its Beatles connection (not least for the zebra crossing in front of it), the studio had an incredible history both before, during and after the Fabs reign. It may be one of the few big studios left. David joins me to talk about his research into the book and to tell some stories about the incredible musicians who recorded there and the technical innovation that took place there.....and to be honest (as Frank Santopadre would say), we only scratched the surface. My gratitude to David for speaking with me about a fascinating piece of modern music history. What else besides Abbey Road have Richard Tauber, Mrs Mills and Noel Gallagher in common? Bugger all I'd suggest. You can pick up “Abbey Road: The Inside Story of the World's Most Famous Recording Studio” at all good bookshops, and online at the usual places that sell books. Hello and welcome to the This Is Not The Halloween Episode But It's Well Into Production And Is Coming Soon. My apologies for the later delivery. Last month I got married and then on our honeymoon we both – finally – caught Covid, so, again, we're all getting back on our feet, so that's that. We have a fantastic episode for you. Comedian Matt Braunger, one of our faves, is here to talk about, among many things, his new special, Doug, available now. We also visit with the great Frank Santopadre. A good friend, a fellow geek and the longtime co-host of Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast. It's a wide-ranging interview. Very funny and also very touching and I'm very grateful to Frank for sitting down with us. True Tales From Weirdsville has the story of MKUltra, the CIA's experiments with LSD in the 1950's. It could also be known as Operation: What Could Go Wrong?
Frank is back for part 2! We talk about the first time he met Gilbert Gottfried, and about how Gilbert met Frank for the first time, every time. Frank talks about how their podcast came to be and why, and why he was such a research hound for each guest. He tells me about some of his favorite moments from the show, a few of his favorite guests, the surreal moment that is noshing in Barbara Feldon's apartment, and why he and Gilbert's dynamic worked so well. We also get into some of our favorite celebrity rumors, and I defend Skidoo. Find more of Frank here: Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast Comedywise
Today, we move slightly away from our usual conversation with a cult movie superstar to talk to a cult movie semi-star, comedy writer, podcaster, and all around encyclopedia of character actors and obscure Hollywood trivia, Frank Santopadre. In part one, we talk about growing up in Queens, the joys of digging through comic book bins, Ralph Manza's recognizable mug, opening for Brother Theodore, and writing for Larry Bud Melman. We also talk about being a submissive wolfman, the cringe factor of looking back at early works, and the Zen riddle of which classic Hollywood comedian had the biggest porn collection. Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner and I will be you host for this, I don't know that there is a better way to put this, "Very Special Episode" of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast that numbers #302. Before I get into what I mean I'd like to take a moment to remind you that Succotash celebrated 11 years of showcasing other soundcasters via clips of their efforts. That coincided with our 300th episode, which executive producer and show creator Marc Hershon and I co-hosted simultaneously - which might sound like an odd way to put it, but it shouldn't be odd to regular listeners who know that Mr. Hershon and I have been hosting weekly episodes more-or-less every-other-episode for the last 2 years, and it is really only on special occasions that we might both be bringing you the same episode, at the same time. There's a great recap of Epi300 IN Epi301 in which Marc brought you a quartet of clips from the soundcasts Aristotle Full Throttle, Brilliant Observations, The Jann Arden Podcast, and TheKnuckleheadsPodcast. That episode can still be found over at SuccotashShow.com and wherever soundcasts can be streamed and/or downloaded…except Spotify for the time being and the foreseeable future. Now, if you wouldn't mind my attempting to explain what I mean by this being a "Very Special Episode" I will begin that now. This is a memorial episode. We have lost a great many comedians in the last year or so. I have chosen to feature three of the recently departed, and I based my selection process on my personal preference for starters, but mostly on the fact that there's a pretty remarkable photograph that Gilbert Gottfried, who passed away after "a long illness" on April 12, 2022, posted to his Twitter account. It was of him, Louie Anderson, who succumbed to cancer on January 21st of 2022, and Bob Saget, who died due to head trauma earlier that same January on the 9th.There's an article on the Huffington Post about the photo that you can find here. I was, as many people were, shocked and saddened by the passings of Mr. Anderson and Mr. Saget, but Mr. Gottfried's passing really bummed me the fuck out, and it is still pretty fresh as I write this on the 23rd of April, less than 2 weeks later. When I saw this photograph, along with how understandably eerie it seemed, it inspired me to revisit Mr. Gottfried's podcast which, in turn, inspired me to create this episode that attempts to both celebrate the humor and humanity of these folks, and memorialize them in some fashion. So, in this episode, I've got clips from The Louie Anderson Podcast, Bob Saget's Here For You, and Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast. I will be including a classic "Henderson's Pants" spot about something called PC Jeans because it seems like it could the most appropriate choice of the fake ads for our fake sponsor that I have available to me. I need to point out that I will still be including social media account information after each clip. (Quite a few folks have died with Twitter accounts, many of whom I still follow, and the accounts are usually maintained by people who keep the legacy alive with information about events such as additional materials like unpublished memoirs, final stand-up specials, charities supported, etc.) I will also be providing info to the various charities as I find them. If you know of any additional charities supported by the comedians featured in this episode, feel free to contact the show via the emails which will be mentioned at the end of the program. Ok, let's get to it and cope with our grief together… CLIPS The Louie Anderson Podcast The Louie Anderson Podcast is a conversation with comedians, entertainers and others about their journey. My featured clips comes from the February 13th, 2015 episode in which The Amazing Johnathan talks magic, Letterman, drugs and his current health situation. (If you'd care to, you can go back into the archives of Succotash to find Episode 95, called "Interfacin' with The Amazing Johnathan" from 2014. Johnathan Szeles and Mr. Hershon had worked on a Merv Griffin game show project in the past called Ruckus which you can definitely find clips of on YouTube. One charity I found that was supported by Louie with a search on Look To The Stars was Comic Relief, which you can learn more about by visiting https://www.comicrelief.com/ Bob Saget's Here For You Bob Saget's Here For You is a podcast that is like no other— For one, this podcast has guests who are friends of Bob's, or just really interesting people who many of you know and love. Secondly, this podcast is unique because it goes inside Bob Saget's mind, and then quickly filters out through his mouth. Bob has a way of calming people he has conversations with as well as being entertaining and often informative. Bob talks with his guests with genuine empathy and humor, while reaching his unusually diverse audience that he talks to as a friend, Bob is the dad with great advice, the irreverent funny guy who's always there when you need a laugh, and the free-associative Bob who goes off on crazy tangents then returns to the subject at hand, as serious or as comedic as it may be, to wrap up each episode in a way only Bob can do. Because he really does believe, “He's here for you." Our clip is from the last episode to post, on Jan 31, 2022, appropriately titled "Final Episode: Dane Cook" Comedian, actor, and long-time friend Dane Cook joins the podcast for its final episode. Dane shares his journey to the stage, opening up about his battle with social anxiety as a child and how his parents' personalities influenced his acts. Bob and Dane tackle a share of serious subjects, including their memories of the late Robin Williams and Louis Anderson, how pain can develop into great comedy, and Dane's experience having to put his older half-brother in jail. (With a foreword from Bill Burr that was included in the episode posted previous to this with Margaret Cho). Bob Saget had also been a Board Member of the Sceleroderma Research Foundation since 2003.You can find more information about it at www.srfcure.org Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast Comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried, a man Stephen King once called “a national treasure,” talks with the show business legends, icons and behind-the-scenes talents who shaped his childhood and influenced his comedy. Along with co-host and fellow pop culture fanatic Frank Santopadre, Gilbert is joined by comics, actors, musicians, talk show hosts, writers and other eyewitnesses to Hollywood history, including Bruce Dern, Chevy Chase, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Adam West, Steve Buscemi, Micky Dolenz, Jim Gaffigan, Judd Apatow and DOZENS more, for a funny, frenetic, fly-on-the-wall look at showbiz then and now (but mostly then.) I snipped this clip from the show that posted April 11th, 2022 - Bob Costas Encore. The GGACP ushers in the start of the 2022 baseball season with this encore of a 2015 interview with Emmy-winning sportscaster, journalist and Baseball Hall of Famer Bob Costas, recorded at the New York Friars Club. Also in this episode: Bob analyzes “Top Cat," imitates Howard Cosell, “interviews” Jack Palance and recites Babe Ruth's farewell speech. PLUS: "The Million Dollar Movie"! Crazy Guggenheim returns! Rod Steiger emotes! Shirley MacLaine clams up! Gilbert sings the theme from “Underdog”! And the boys praise the under-appreciated genius of Bud Abbott! In Honor/Memory of Gilbert Gottfried who passed "Too Soon" of Myotonic Dystrophy Type Two: Please consider a donation to the research of this debilitating disease. Donate here: http://giveto.urmc.edu/DM2Research By show's end I do hope that you find something to enjoy. There are so many soundcasts out there, and none of us could possibly listen to them all. I wonder what the percentage is of comedians that have podcasts? I imagine it is a large percentage. Personally, comedians and musicians are among my favorite classes of people. Aside from loved ones or people that I know well in my actual life, comedians and musicians seem to leave the biggest gaps in the world when they leave us behind. Thankfully, they have a body of work that we can revisit if we were to desire to do so. We can laugh and sing with them until we literally cannot laugh and/or sing anymore for one reason or another, including our own deaths. Most importantly, if you love people or otherwise hold them in high regard, don't miss an opportunity to express the way you feel about them to them. You never know when it will be too late. I don't really have anything new to add as far as those sorts of sentiments go. I just keep on keepin' on because that's what we do. We carry on because we must. So, tune in next week for Marc Hershon's episode 303 and I will hopefully talk at you in two weeks for Epi304. Until then, be decent to each other, try to stay safe, and if someone asks you if you have heard anything worth listening to lately and we come to mind, don't forget to pass the Succotash… — Tyson Saner
Today we bring you a first on the Rarified Heir Podcast, a bonus episode in tribute to Gilbert Gottfried and the Gilbert Gottfried Amazing Colossal Podcast. Our guest today is not a child of a celebrity but Ben Model is the archivist to the Ernie Kovacs and Edie Adams archive which is run by our host Josh Mills. In 2019, Ben and Josh were guests on the Gilbert Gottfried Amazing Colossal Podcast to celebrate the Centennial of Ernie Kovacs. Truly shocked and saddened by Gilbert's passing last week, Ben and Josh wanted to share some stories about how terrific their time was on the Gilbert Gottfried Amazing Colossal Podcast and how warm, funny and truly insane Gilbert and co-host Frank Santopadre were n he best possible ways. Clearly not celebrities, Frank took a chance on having Ben and Josh on as guests because he knew Kovacs was an important comedy figure and perhaps they should take a chance to talk about Kovacs to listeners who maybe knew about him but perhaps not enough. Somehow by taking that chance, the episode in question became an odd mix of silent film accompaniment, risqué stories about Josh's mom that Gilbert loved and by both accounts, a moment that happens all too rare in life – a genuine connection. Basically, this bonus episode is a tribute to Gilbert Gottfried and also a huge thank you to Frank Santopadre & unofficial podcast booker Gino Salamone for taking a chance on two nobodies who just thought it would be a fun idea. We miss you Gilbert. We are sorry there wont be a second chance to connect but we know you are cursing out Walter Brennan in heaven and that makes us smile. We'll miss you Gil.
This week is such a strange week as comedy and tragedy once again intertwine themselves in the lives we lead. Gilbert Gottfried was a friend to this podcast for sure and a comedian that made me laugh as hard as anyone I've ever met. His references were our references that you love this podcast for. At the funeral when his Gilbert Gottfried Amazing Colossal Podcast co-host Frank Santopadre spoke in the phrases Gilbert would use, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard. What a truly odd experience. This week also had the Comedy Cellar Holiday Party and a comedy performance at the Stress Factory in New Brunswick, with the also grieving, Jeff Ross. What do you say to comedy and tragedy going hand in hand? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

70 Movies We Saw in the 70s: Ep 10—CAPRICORN ONE (1978) Actor, writer, director, (and sibling of a previous guest) PAT HEALY joins us to discuss Peter Hyams’ magnificent space-faking/snake-snarfing/O.J.-elevating conspiracy thriller, CAPRICORN ONE (1978). It’s a free-wheeling, side-splitting conversation with multiple detours into the comedy stylings of Sam Waterstron, the perfect miscasting of Telly Savalas, RUNNING SCARED (1986) vs. RUNNING SCARED (2006), Matilda the boxing kangaroo, the mid-’90s missteps of Jean-Clade Van Damme, and who should have had dibs on THE FLAMINGO KID, as well as a sprawling homage to the intro-writing genius of Frank Santopadre. Thank you again, PAT HEALY!!!!

What makes a good joke? Why do some fall flat while others are met with a LOL, even an ROTFL? Is a joke ever out of bounds? In this episode, we examine the art of communicating with humor. Alan Alda talks with writers Frank Santopadre and Alan Zweibel, who have spent their lives finding the funny in the meaningful and the meaningful in the funny. Join them as they explore the heart of "ha." Support the show.
If I said that See Hear Podcast episode 68 featured a discussion about a film with dark heavy metal, killer wolverines, vikings, projectile vomit, dug up corpses, crushed reindeer bones, and splattered reindeer blood, and then told you it was a really sweet film, would you believe me? You should because every part of that description is true. Once again, Tim is on sabbatical, so Bernie and I are joined by the amazing and colossal Mike McBeardo McPadden. He is the author of a revered tome called Heavy Metal Movies, so we at See Hear HQ figured he was a perfect choice to join us for a discussion of 2018 Finnish film, Heavy Trip (aka Hevi Reissu). A metal band in a small town in Finland have been practicing in their parents' basements for 12 years, and have never found the courage to leave it....until a chance meeting with the organiser of a Norwegian metal festival. The four friends decide to leave the confines of their backward thinking town to find their community....with wacky hijinks ensuing. The discussion swerves all over the place like a drunken (possibly vengeful) reindeer on a country road. Ultimately, was this a successful film? Download the show and hear our thoughts. You can find Heavy Trip on Amazon Prime or Kanopy. Download the podcast from Stitcher, Spotify or the website at https://seehear.podbean.com …..or whatever podcast app you favour. HUGE thanks to Mike for joining us. You can get his books Heavy Metal Movies and Teen Movie Hell from https://www.bazillionpoints.com/ or order it at your bricks and mortar bookshop. He also tends to the Facebook page for Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast (featuring previous podcast guest, Frank Santopadre). Mike is a mentsch, and will be back for future episodes. Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner. Welcome to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Thank you for making us your destination listening for this next interval in your existence. With all the available choices you have to choose from as far as doundcasts go - or "podcasts" as many people still refer to them - you chose us, and it is an honor. We've got an episode stuffed with content including clips from: My Best Break-Up, Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast, Broadway Baby, Mega, A Funny Feeling, and Fear Initiative. We've also got a rare triple Burst O' Durst from raging moderate Will Durst and selected reading from TrumPoetry.com. So much to listen to, so little…uh…well, really there's as much time as there is, isn't there? So let's crack on! CLIPS My Best Break-Up Sometimes, the best beginnings start with an ending. Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine bring you My Best Break-Up, hosted by the charming Maeve Higgins and featuring a different break-up story each week. Our clips features Hannah Gadsby, from a recent episode where she explains her deep unease with success, coupled with the invisibility she often felt as a queer, autistic woman. She's made a conscious decision to view the world in a new way - without a filter of shame. Broadway BabyJoin host Kimberly Schmidt and her husband Jay as they try to transform their friend Alex Fossella from casual theater goer to full-out fan boy. The clip we're featuring is from the show's pilot, where Kimberly and Jay explain Alex's first homework assignment: The cast album from Hair. Mega This soundcast is an improvised satire from the staff of a fictional mega church. Starring show creators Holly Laurent and Greg Hess as hosts Hallie and Gray, the clip we have is this past January and guest stars Edgar Blackmon (Alone Together, Popstar) as Edward Blackthorn who's talking sports, Game of Thrones, and falling in love. Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal PodcastEvery episode of GGACP, host, comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried, along with co-host and fellow pop culture fanatic Frank Santopadre, welcomes an astounding guest from the business of show. Our clip from a recent episode features guest Joel Grey, talking about being Joel Grey! A Funny FeelingHosted by comedians and paranormal enthusiasts Betsy Sodaro and Marcy Jarreau, A Funny Feeling, invites the hosts' comedian friends and celebrity guests to tell their true paranormal experiences and hear spooky stories submitted by listeners. A clip from Epi69, entitled NorCal Mysteries, features guest storyteller Jessica Jardine, discussing her Northern California upbringing with stories of serial killers and the Winchester Mystery House. Fear InitiativeA weekly horror role-playing game podcast, Fear Initiative features Game Master David Ian McKendry as he takes players Morgan Peter Brown, Cara Mandel, Jeff Seidman, Megan Duffy, Rob Schrab, Josh Forbes and Clarke Wolfe on a weekly horror inspired RPG adventure. Our clip is from the very first episode from August of last year, when the FI crew comes together seemingly by accident, meeting late one night at a tavern. Cracked on and gone: one more episode of Succotash. Thank you so much for listening to us. I hope you have been entertained...and maybe you've got another soundcast or two to seek out and listen to more episodes of that you hadn't previously been aware of…so then I can say that at the very least you've been informed in some way... specifically that there's a whole world of soundcasts out there in a world (that still mostly calls them podcasts as of this point in history.) What our show, this "Comedy Soundcast Soundcast" is doing, is saying: "Try this, you might like it in larger amounts" and then letting you decide. We also interview some of those people when they are willing and able. We here at Succotash are empathetic with those who create content and understand the time it takes to make it all happen. So, if you do enjoy our content, why not share it with others so that they also might have a few more choices presented to them in easily consumed and, presumably, digestible portions? (To keep the food metaphor going...) So again, thank you for listening and if you wouldn't mind taking a little time out to rate and review us on iTunes we'd be forever grateful because in addition to telling others about us, the iTunes rating is another form of "word of mouth" that might even land us a real sponsor someday... one can dream. Good night, and until next time won't you please, pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
Saluton. Estas mi, Tyson Saner. Welcome to Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast - The podcast that dares to call itself a soundcast and features clips of comedy soundcasts from all around the internet because well, that's generally where soundcasts are stored and, ultimately, found and clipped by yours truly. It's late October but not yet Halloween as I write this. Even so, if you celebrate Halloween I'd like to wish you a happy one early because the next episode of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast will post afterwards... truth is I'll probably wish you a "Happy After Halloween - Pre -Thanksgiving" when the time comes because "reasons". Coming up later in the program, we've got clips from: H3 Podcast, How To Be A Person, Threedom, Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast, Hollywood Handbook, and Good One: A Podcast About Jokes. We've also got a double dose of raging moderate Will Durst's Burst O' Durst segment. This edition of Succotash is brought to you by Henderson's Hallo Pants and TrumPoetry.com. (This epi features Yours Truly doing a recitation from our too-new-to-have-developed-even-a-hint-of-patina sponsor's website.) Are you ready? If not, remember that you can hit that pause button if needed... it's one of the beautiful things about a soundcast: the choice of when to listen... and choice is important, is it not? Just as it's MY choice to leave that pause there. All right, let's go. H3 Podcastsh3h3Productions (often shortened to h3h3 or simply h3) is a comedy YouTube channel produced by husband and wife duo Ethan and Hila Klein. Their content mostly consists of reaction videos and sketch comedy in which they satirize internet culture. In addition to their main channel, they run a secondary vlog channel by the name of Ethan and Hila and a third channel called H3 Podcast. We've clipped from Epi84 from September 12th, 2018, in an episode featuring guest Bill Burr. In this clip Ethan, Hila and Bill discuss having children and the All Things Comedy network (whose comedian-based podcast content has been frequently featured on Succotash The Comedy Podcast Podcast (including About Last Night with Adam Ray and Brad Williams, Bertcast from comedian Bert Kreischer, and Skeptic Tank with Ari Shaffer. Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal PodcastComedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried, a man Stephen King once called "a national treasure," talks with the show business legends, icons and behind-the-scenes talents who shaped his childhood and influenced his comedy. Along with co-host and fellow pop culture fanatic Frank Santopadre, Gilbert is joined by comics, actors, musicians, talk show hosts, writers and other eyewitnesses to Hollywood history. Our clip is from Epi 220 from last August, when Gilbert and Frank welcomed an old friend, legendary comedy writer Bruce Vilanch, and it features the telling of an encounter with Donny Osmond and includes a brief bit about actor and war hero Charles Durning. Threedom The three hosts of Threedom coming together were described by Succotash executive producer Marc Hershon as "The Voltron" of soundcasting in his recent review of this very episode. (This Week In Comedy Podcasts, Vulture.com) After all, when you consider that Scott Aukerman, Lauren Lapkus and Paul F Tompkins abandoned their regular formats to focus on the basics of being funny with each other, it's the ultimate podcast powerplay. (Sorry to use the "p" word.) This clip features the trio discussing the philosophy of optimistic nihilism. Hollywood HandbookAn insider's guide to achieving your showbiz dreams, Hollywood Handbook is from two A-List it-boys who are living theirs. Hayes Davenport and Sean Clements provide an exclusive VIP backstage pass into Tinseltown politics, answer questions from unsuccessful listeners, and bring in famous guests to discuss their craft and how they became what they are — famous. We've clipped from an episode featuring their visit with Patton Oswalt from back in July, with a segment that raises the question of whether or not certain animated rodents exist in a shared universe. How To Be a PersonComedy writers Mike Drucker (The Tonight Show, The Onion, Marvel) and Jess Dweck (The Tonight Show, Late Night) invite fellow comedians, writers, and other interesting people to teach them how to be normal human beings. The clip we harvested is from Epi 148 from May, called "How To Reheat Pizza and Get Airline Miles". It features guest Samantha Ruddy, where they talk about Montreal's "Just For Laughs" comedy festival, being multilingual and, as advertised, how to reheat pizza. Good One: A Podcast About JokesJust as titled, Good One: A Podcast About Jokes is a podcast about…well…jokes, and the people who tell them. Each week, a comedian plays one of their jokes and then break it down with host and Vulture.com Senior Editor Jesse David Fox. Nick Kroll is the guest in our clip from the recent October 8th episode, entitled "Nick Kroll's Big Mouth Shame-Filled Dirty Talk". David and Nick delves deeply into the psyche of the comic's childhood self and how it influences the aforementioned animated series Big Mouth. And with that, we bring this late October edition of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast to a close. I appreciate your taking the time to listen. I hope you've enjoyed the selection of comedy soundcast clips, and that perhaps you'll choose to listen to us again and/or seek out the full episodes of any or all of the soundcasts sampled here. (Just click on the show titles featured in the blog to be whisked off to their homesite.) Perhaps me from the future has some idea of those things because me from the present has absolutely NO IDEA. :) So until next time, Be decent to each other, Happy Halloween, get out and VOTE for pity's sake and, if you wouldn't mind doing us a solid, could I possibly ask — nay, gently implore you — to please, pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
See Hear is about to get nostalgic for episode 40….or maybe not. There are two sorts of people in the world – those who love the FILMS of Woody Allen and those who can’t stand them. Among those who love his films there are two sorts of people – some prefer his early zany films about relationships, morality the universe and our place in it, and bouncing boobs. However, there are those who prefer his mid-period Fellini / Bergman style dramas / comedies about relationships, morality the universe and our place in it, but with no bouncing boobs. (Does anyone prefer his latter-day films?) Tim, Bernie and Maurice are joined once again by Frank Santopadre of Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast to discuss 1984’s Broadway Danny Rose, a film that combines the best elements of the former and latter styles of his filmography. Woody plays Danny Rose, a loyal theatrical agent for acts no one else wants to handle. It looks a has-been singer who he manages (there’s the musical connection, folks) is on the brink of making a successful comeback. He tasks Danny with bringing his mistress to an important show….hi-jinx ensue. Aside from talking about the film itself, we discuss our favourite films from Woody’s back-catalogue, the use of music in his films, whether Woody Allen's films are really about nostalgia, New York as a back-drop for cinema and how it’s changed over the last 30 years…..and Milton Berle’s member. Once again, we owe a huge debt of thanks to Frank for taking the time to come on the show. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of film, and is a super-mentsch to boot. Thanks for helping make this episode extra special. You can download the show by searching for See Hear podcast on iTunes or download from http://seehear.podbean.com/ If you dig what we do, could you please rate us at iTunes or even better, spread the word that the show exists so more folks can tune in. Please join our friendly Facebook discussion group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/seehearpodcast You can send us emails at seehearpodcast@gmail.com to suggest films you'd like us to discuss, give us your thoughts on what we do or anything else music-film related. Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy is a beautiful recreation of the four-color world of Chester Gould's square-jawed detective. It's also something of an uneasy marriage of Stephen Sondheim songs, Madonna, and a cavalcade of character actors as Gould's "Rogues Gallery."Interviews feature Glenne Headly who plays Tracy's love interest, Tess Trueheart, as well as author Garyn G. Roberts, and Dick Tracy afficianado Dan Kampling. We also hear just a bit of executive producer Floyd Mutrux from a previous interview.Jared Case and Frank Santopadre join Mike to debate if the film ultimately works.
