Do you want more fruit in your life? We are going to be starting a new book of the Bible soon. We are returning to the story of three men: Samuel the Prophet and Kings Saul and David. The book of 1 Samuel tells the story of Israel's transition from a theocracy to a monarchy, marked by intrigue, betrayal, and divine intervention. Through the lives of Samuel, Saul, and David, it vividly illustrates the complexities of leadership, the consequences of disobedience, and the continuing faithfulness of God amidst human sin. So go to the website and grab the 1 Samuel Scripture Journal today so you are ready to go when we begin! But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. — Galatians 5:22-23 Paul's words serve as a stark contrast to the behaviors of the flesh he discussed earlier. He urges believers to embrace the blessings of the "fruit of the Spirit." These qualities, however, are not just positive signs but tangible manifestations of a believer who is guided by the Holy Spirit's desires. But here's the issue with this list. Many believers consider these items a list of things they need to do. Therefore, they aim to be more loving, joyful, peaceful, etc. And yes, it is good to be more loving, joyful, peaceful, and the like. But if you reduce the outputs of the Spirit to mere behaviors, you have now engaged in the same legalism Paul has argued against throughout this letter. The goal is not legalism by righteous behaviors but liberty by surrendering to the desires of the Holy Spirit. When we surrender to the desires of the Spirit, fruit is a byproduct of our behaviors. The best part is that it's not just one fruit but many and all fruits simultaneously because they are not our fruit. It's his fruit. So, how do we cultivate this fruit in our lives? Start by examining your behaviors and discerning the true source of your desires. Ask yourself: Are my thoughts and actions aligned with the Spirit's desires or my own? If you already know the answer, make a conscious choice to follow the Spirit's leading, and you'll bear fruit. If unsure, seek guidance through Scripture, prayer, or wise counsel from a fellow believer. Then, once you have clarity, surrender to the Spirit's direction, and you'll witness abundant fruitfulness. #SpiritualFruitfulness #SurrenderToTheSpirit #CultivateTheFruit ASK THIS: Reflect on a recent decision or action in your life. Was it motivated by the desires of the Holy Spirit or your own? How might consciously surrendering to the Spirit's guidance have impacted the outcome? Consider a relationship in your life where you desire to see more fruitfulness. How can you align your thoughts and actions with the qualities of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, allowing the Spirit to work through you in that relationship? DO THIS: Assess your desires then act and be fruitful. PRAY THIS: Father, help me to surrender my desires to the leading of your Spirit, so that I may bear fruit that reflects your character and brings glory to your name. Guide me in aligning my thoughts and actions with the qualities of love, joy, peace, and all the fruits of your Spirit. Amen. PLAY THIS: Nothing Else + The Heart of Worship.

The Fruit of the Spirit is formed in us through the working of the life of Christ within us, through the Holy Spirit flowing out from our reborn spirit. This fruit of holiness is formed by the initiative and grace of God, but our co-operation is necessary. God works in us both (1) to will and (2) to work His good pleasure. He (1) forms the attitude of Christ in our soul, and then (2) empowers us to act accordingly, so that we bear fruit in our life. We must (1) receive His love into our heart, which changes our inner motivations, and then (2) release that love in our life, by yielding to it through loving words and acts (of obedience). In this way, by our obedience, we work out His salvation (saving life) into our soul and life, which God has already worked within our spirit (Philippians 2:12-13). God continually pours out His love into our hearts by His Holy Spirit, enabling us to love God and others (Romans 5:5), and when we yield to that love by obeying His command to walk in love, the fruit of love grows and is developed in our soul (John 15:9-10). In this way, although we are not constrained by an outward law, we are constrained by the love of Christ working within us, causing us to no longer live for ourselves, but for Christ, who loved us (2Corinthians 5:14). We make a special study of "love, joy and peace", describing the wonderful nature of these realities that only the Holy Spirit can produce in our us - see also Romans 14:17: "The Kingdom of God is righteousness (love) and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." Love is rightly mentioned first, as love (agape) summarises the perfect moral nature of God, and is therefore the ultimate requirement and fulfilment of the Law. All the other 8 flavours can be seen as different aspects of love (see 1Corinthians 13:4-8,13).

Is goodness something we define for ourselves or is goodness defined outside of us? In this message, Pastor Scott Savage shares from Titus 3:4-8 about how God defines goodness, how we become good, and how we were created to do good in the world. This message is part of a series of messages in summer 2022 about the Fruit of the Spirit, described in Galatians 5:22-23.
We celebrate our birthdays. We celebrate our nation's birthday. But, what about the birthday of the Church? The birthday of the church has some important things to teach us - about the Church, the Holy Spirit, and the path to producing the fruit of the Spirit. In this message, Pastor Scott Savage kicks off our summer series on the Fruit of the Spirit.
Who needs to grow up? We all do! In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares how we can grow up as believers as we walk in the fruit of the Spirit. What is the fruit of the Spirit? The fruit of the Spirit are the various positive character traits displayed in the life of a believer, that are the result of an ongoing, healthy relationship with God. The Fruit of the SpiritGalatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Christians are expected to grow up. 1 Corinthians 13:11Just because God loves us, doesn't mean He won't instruct us. Because God cares about you, he cares about what you do. It is bizarre to think God can live inside one person, not live inside another person, yet the two people act the same! Fruit that helps us grow up:1. Goodness.Goodness is moral virtue, uprightness, and excellence of character. Ephesians 5:8-10 If you're a Christian and sin is increasing while goodness is decreasing, there's a problem. Ephesians 2:10 Living a life of goodness is not about improving who we are but, about discovering who God is. As we fix our eyes on Him, we'll focus less on ourselves and do the good things He's called us to do. 2. Faithfulness.Faithfulness is confident trust that results in loyalty and reliability. When you're full of faith, you'll be faith-full. People who are unfaithful lost faith in their relationship. Your trust causes you to be trustworthy and your faith causes you to be you faithful.Luke 16:10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won't be honest with greater responsibilities.”Faithfulness is a fruit, not a feeling. 2 Timothy 2:2 Faithful people share their faith. 3. Self-control. Self-control is the ability to manage your appetites and emotions. Prov. 25:28 “A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.”1 Cor. 9:27 Are you bearing the fruit of the Spirit that helps you grow up?
What is the fruit of the Spirit? How do you get it, and what do you do with it? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally teaches us how to live a life that displays the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is the various positive character traits displayed in the life of a believer, that are the result of an ongoing, healthy relationship with God. Its not “fruits” of the Spirit but fruit of the Spirit. One fruit, nine flavors - everyone should look for all the various flavors of fruit in their life. 1. You are bearing fruit. Galatians 5:19-23 We can categorize this fruit in three groups: Act Like Jesus, Treat Others Right, and Grow Up 2. The type of tree you are determines the type of fruit you bear.Matthew 7:15-20 Trees grow apples and oranges but people grow actions and attitudes. Healthy trees produces pleasant fruit, rotten trees produce diseased fruit. 3. You are called to oversee your own fruit production. Philippians 2:12 “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”Not work AT your salvation – Jesus has already done the work necessary for you to be saved – but work OUT your salvation. When you were saved, God made your spirit new – now get that change from the inside to the outside. 4. Your fruit is not only for you, but for others. Apple trees don't eat their own apples. Matthew 5:16 “let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”Each fruit contains seeds for the next batch of fruit. 5. God “bought” your fruit.John 15:16 “You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”Your purpose on earth is tied to your fruit production. How do you bear fruit?1. Stay attached to the source. John 15:4-5 2. Embrace pruning. John 15:2 “He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn't produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.”Pruning is not a punishment, but a way to produce even more fruit. Pruning removes what is dying, what is diseased, what is delaying you. Some Christians are trying to pray stuff away because it hurts them, but God is trying to prune stuff away because it helps them. Are you bearing the fruit of the Spirit?

God calls his people to be fruitful, but what does fruitfulness truly entail? Being fruitful is much more than we think. It's abundance. It is the quality of being prolific. To be fruitful is to pass along something of value. Join Pastor Bill as he dives into Jesus' exhortation to his disciples to remain on the vine, to draw strength from him, so we too can pass on something of value.
