James Aspey comes on to discuss his recent health issue and dealing with anger, the thing that caused it. We also delve into ex-vegans, theism, and the Matrix...
In terms of my purpose, I would say that I am here to be an instrument of truth and peace and love and respect. -James AspeyJames Aspey has made waves across the globe with his message over the years, sometimes in a really positive light, and, yes, there's also been quite a bit of controversy over his methodology and language as well. One thing I really admire about James is his commitment to his own evolution and his willingness to share his journey with the world. In this episode we cover a ton of ground, starting with the death-sentence he was given at the age of 17 when he was diagnosed with cancer. I invite you to listen with an open mind to his fascinating story.VIEW THE FULL SHOW NOTES AND GUEST BIO & LINKS HERE ---------------------------------------SPONSORED BY THE PLANT-EMPOWERED COACHING PROGRAMIf you're ready to ditch dieting and build a plant-strong body for life, CLICK HERE to learn more and book a consultation.—---------------------------------------Check out our sister show, The Vegan Life Coach Podcast, HERE!LET'S CONNECT!
Andrew Taylor's story went viral when the world caught wind of the then-36 year old Aussie dad who had embarked upon a quest to eat only potatoes for the entirety of 2016. With the media frenzy that followed his 'Spud Fit Challenge' story came the opportunity to help thousands of other food addicts deal with their own food psychology issues while losing weight and getting healthier along the way. Andrew's first short book, 'The D.I.Y. Spud Fit Challenge' : a how-to guide to tackling food addiction with the humble spud' was co-authored by his wife Mandy van Zanen and has helped many people to break the shackles of food addiction. His second book, ‘Spud Fit: A whole food, potato-based guide to eating and living' is a collaborative effort between him and over 90 contributors, many of them giants in plant-based nutrition science from around the globe. Andrew now spends his time coaching others through food addiction through his courses, informal and informative Youtube videos, his blog and his steadily expanding Spud Fit community, along with Mandy. He is also a sought-after speaker and natural interviewer, hosting groundbreakers such as Rich Roll, James Aspey, Doug Lisle and Alan Goldhamer for his podcast. In his spare time, Andrew doesn't have spare time - he instead wrangles his two young sons. One day he hopes to be able to have a minute to think in peace so that he can think about what he might like to do with that peace. To learn more, check out www.spudfit.com Thank you for watching. James Aspey, vegan activist, released a video discussing why he was off social media for some time. He did have some issues with his back, but one of the main reasons was because of body pain due to stress and tension from vegan advocacy. I believe there are better ways to advocate for the animals than getting into arguments with people online, debating with family & friends or even getting to the point of physically fighting people. I have so much respect for James and what he has done/gone through. I just wish he didn't have to deal with this kind of pain for doing what he's doing. This is something that we can all learn from, though. Be a beacon of light. Craig and his wife Sam started Five Vegans after recognising a great opportunity to source and sell vegan products online and at local vegan events. The business name is inspired by them being a vegan family of five. One of Five Vegans core values is giving back, so they designed a mystery box where $10 per box is donated to a different animal charity each month. So far, they have donated over $2000 to charities. Craig went vegetarian at age 30 after seeing an article in the newspaper and footage of sheep in the Middle East. Almost 10 years later, Craig watched a number of videos including What The Health and James Aspey's speech and he went vegan. Although Craig was motivated by the ethical side of veganism, he was also interested in the health benefits, as he suffered from an auto immune arthritis called Ankylosing Spondylitis. Not long after going vegan, Craig met the Perth Anonymous for the Voiceless organiser and began participating in Cube of Truth events. He is regularly involved in animal rights activism events such as outreach and marches. In this episode, Craig also shares their hopes to expand the business, as well as advice for vegan parents and businesses. http://www.fivevegans.com.auhttps://instagram.com/fiveveganshttps://fb.com/fiveveganshttps://www.tiktok.com/@fiveveganshttps://pinterest.com.au/Fivevegans/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXtCQfFVpc1RgThDgj5kpWg
James Aspey returns to the podcast – this time, with his wife Nicky. They have a beautiful story of falling in love and creating a life of shared purpose together. Nicky had to push back against her Brazilian heritage in order to become vegan, and she helped James stop worrying about what other people thought of the language he used to spread the message of veganism and animal cruelty. We talk about their lifestyle, how they both met, how they each became vegan, and more.To learn more, and for the complete show notes, visit: lytyoga.com/blog/category/podcasts/Resources:Instagram: @jamesaspey + @nickyaspeyYouTube: youtube.com/voiceless365patreon.com/jamesaspey402. “Veganism & Earning Planet Peace, with James Aspey”Visit sprytherapeutics.com and use code “LYTFRIEND” at checkout for a discountRedefining Yoga is a production of Crate Media See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
James Aspey is a renowned animal activist who’s been vegan for eight years. The path to him becoming a voice for the unheard started with his decision to become voiceless, himself. He took a vow of silence in honor of animal suffering and maintained it for an entire year. With his big personality, outspoken charisma, and extreme commitment to the cause, he’s doing so much good in the world. He saw the massive injustices in the animal product industries and just how few people were actually speaking up in the way that they needed to, so he had to take on the mission, himself. The language and tone he uses is often the center of controversy and criticism. We talk about the backlash to this approach, the morality of veganism, and how his diet changed his life following a cancer diagnosis. At the age of 17, James Aspey was diagnosed with leukaemia and given six weeks to live. Over the next 3 years, he fought to survive, which he did. He emerged from that battle with a new appreciation of life and a personal understanding of suffering. During his treatment he'd gained 23kg and after being given the all clear he began, with the help of a trainer to get his weight and fitness back on track. Inspired by the help he'd got James became a personal trainer too. It was whilst on a cruise ship working as a PT that James met a man that would completely change the path of his life. He began to question some of the things he'd always believed about food and health and embarked on a journey that would lead him first to giving up eating animals, then to giving up his voice for animals and finally, to what he does today, speaking all over the world about animals and veganism. His words are visceral and provocative, his message is hard to hear...but more and more people are listening, and that's why I asked James to come on the show. If you want to get some lessons from a master speaker, with a heartfelt message that is influencing people across the globe to make a major shift in their life and beliefs...then listen to this show...but be warned... at times you may find what James says disturbing and challenging. What we talk about: What James found out that changed the course of his life. Why we should care about what we eat. The benefits of a vegan diet. How James coped having a year without uttering a word. Why it's important for speakers to focus on understanding and addressing potential objections and how James does it. Why James believes education is the best way to influence people and how he does it. How James tailors his message for different audiences Why we sometimes need to shock to create change How being Vegan can help you grow as a communicator Why Tofu is one of the most underrated foods of all time! Why humour is so powerful, especially when your message is serious! How James puts his talks together, for maximum attention and impact. What James considers to be the most important point of his speeches. James' secret to becoming a great speaker. James' secret to business success. In the case of being vegan, you are considering animals who are other sentient beings -- they have souls like we do -- so, if I care deeply about people... then I should care an equal amount -- and I do care an equal amount -- for animals as well... The fifth interview in this series, features Raffaella Giampaolo. Raffaella is an intuitive healer providing Reiki, sound therapy, aroma therapy and spiritual readings for self-discovery and transformation. Raffaella has been vegan for 4 years. In this interview, she helps us understand why she became vegan and shares with us her personal vegan journey. #33: My guest for you today is James Aspey a vegan who is an animal rights activist who comitted to a vow of silence for 365 days to get his message out to the world. He goes over vegan diets, why killing animals is wrong, vegan alternatives to meat, and how to be vegan in the most healthiest way possible.
Once you’ve experienced true fear and suffering, it’s hard to ignore the agony and trauma of others. James Aspey was diagnosed with cancer at only 17 and was told he’d be dead in six weeks if he didn’t start chemotherapy immediately. After three years of treatment, he’d gained 50 pounds and developed a severe binge eating disorder. As he worked to find peace and healing through the principles of Vipassana meditation, he was exposed to the realities of the meat and dairy industries. James made vows to resist the impulses of his bulimia, to never consume animal products again, and to stay silent for 365 days to raise awareness and promote peace over violence. He joins Dotsie and Alexandra in this episode to share how making the switch has been spiritually liberating and has allowed him to live truly aligned with his values. You’ll hear how he broke out of his food addiction, his tips for transitioning to veganism, and why it’s so important to be part of animal activism outside of your personal plate. What we discuss in this episode: - The article recently published in a New York university’s Women’s and Gender Studies journal that’s calling out the sexual abuse of dairy cows - James’s story of being diagnosed with cancer at 17 and dealing with three years of treatment - How eating out of boredom and a need for pleasure led to a serious binge eating disorder - How a Vipassana meditation course and a book by Jennifer Taitz gave James the tools he needed to break free from his bulimia - Why James took a vow of silence, a vow to stop purging, and a vow to never consume animal products again - James’s tips for anyone wanting to cut animal products out of their life - The four must-watch documentaries James recommends if you want to understand the importance of going vegan: Forks Over Knives, What the Health, Cowspiracy, and Dominion - Why it’s important to have compassion for people who have been socialized to reject plant-based diets, and how to be empathetic to anyone who has yet to make the switch - If you want to liberate animals you must first liberate yourself: Hear how to free yourself by accepting negative sensations - Follow James on Facebook at @JamesAspeyActivism, on YouTube at James & Carly, on Instagram at @jamesaspey, and on his website at jamesaspey.com.au. In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk with Australia and Canada’s influential animal rights activists, James Aspey and Carly Taylor. This was a fun one since Adam had just hosted James and Carly at his school a few months ago. So we got to talk about the impact that one speech has made so far amongst the staff and students. We cover a lot from Australia's “heart-healthy” recommendations to how they each became vegan. We spent some time talking about eating disorders and how a vegan diet actually helped heal James from his. Of course, we talked about James' year-long vow of silence and a few other myth busters. Carly Taylor is an animal rights activist originally from Toronto, Canada. After studying biology & psychology in her undergrad, she now travels around the world with her partner organizing activism events and speeches, and creating online content to help spread the vegan message & inspire people to live more conscious lifestyles. Ranked #3 among the “Top 25 Most Influential Vegans” by Plant Based News and motivated to raise greater awareness for the planet’s voiceless victims, in 2014 James Aspey took a 365-day vow of silence. After an entire year without uttering a single word, he first spoke on Australia’s most popular morning show in an interview viewed by tens of millions and inspiring countless people to make more conscious and compassionate lifestyle choices, cementing him as a charismatic new force in the fight for the ethical treatment of animals. James Aspey has gone on to cycle 5000 km across Australia to prove that vegans can be fit & healthy. He transparently shares his life and campaigns online to a massive tribe of global followers. Online, his speeches have reached tens of millions of people. And his most popular speech has been viewed over 12 million times. Enthusiastic, accessible and highly skilled behind a podium, James is inspiring a new generation to change how we eat and live in communion with the animals that share this home we call Earth. This is a great episode for anyone who is considering being vegan, wants to know more about the vegan movement or wants to hear a more in-depth interview with these amazing well-known activists. In this episode we discuss: Milk is liquid meat Australia’s heart-healthy recommendations Carly becoming vegan Starting the vow of silence Violence behind every single animal product James' eating disorders Overcoming an eating disorder Impact of the vow of silence and breaking it The traveling and impact Costa Rica Amazon rainforest How to respond to “used to be vegan but it wasn’t healthy for me” The blood type diet Advice to people who want to change but think they can’t James and Carly at Adam’s school Links to things we mentioned: – use “planttrainers” at checkout for a discount! Recently Logan Paul hosted James Aspey, a vegan activist on his podcast show The Impaulsive Podcast. I talk about what I think it means for this message to be out there on such a big platform and also discuss why I think Logan might have not thrived on his Vegan diet experiment.

“I went voiceless because they're voiceless.“James Aspey Why do we love dogs, eat pigs and wear cows?Dr. Melanie Joy coined this phenomenon speciesism.James Aspey calls it what it is — just plain wrong.Motivated to raise greater awareness for the planet's voiceless victims, in 2014 this passionate, young, Australian animal rights activist took a 365-day vow of silence. After an entire year without uttering a single word, he ended it on Australian national television with an interview that inspired millions to make more conscious and compassionate lifestyle choices and cemented him as a charismatic new force in the fight for the ethical treatment of animals.Ranked #3 among the “Top 25 Most Influential Vegans” by Plant Based News, James has gone on to cycle 5000kms across Australia to prove that vegans can be fit & healthy. He got tattooed for 25 hours straight to raise $20,000 for charity. He's been featured in a multitude of prominent mainstream media outlets; given free speeches at countless schools, universities, and conferences; and attended local activism events, slaughterhouse vigils, and street outreach events all across the world. He transparently shares his life and campaigns online to a massive tribe of global followers. On YouTube, his speeches have reached tens of millions of people. And his most popular speech has been viewed over 12 million views.Enthusiastic, accessible and highly skilled behind a podium, James is inspiring a new generation to change how we eat and live in communion with the animals that share this home we call Earth. But there's so much more to this young man's life than meets the eye. At 17, James was diagnosed with leukemia and told he only had 6 weeks to live. He beat the cancer only to slide into a life of drugs and alcohol punctuated by a profound eating disorder. Then a chance encounter with an Indian man would forever change the trajectory of James' life.Today I'm proud to help this passionate defender of the voiceless share his powerful story. But first, a caveat. I'm not unaware that a contingent of you shut down when the subject turns to animal welfare. I know, because I used to be that person. I didn’t start out inherently compassionate about these issues. My shift to a plant-based lifestyle was initially motivated purely for personal health reasons. In fact it was years before I became sensitive to the horrific and inexcusable manner in which we treat our animal friends. But it's an issue I now care deeply about. And it's an issue we simply can no longer ignore or tolerate.Ghandi once famously said, “The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”History will not look fondly upon our track record. And I, for one, want to be on the right side of history. So for those who think this episode just isn't for you, I urge you to set aside any judgment, projection or pre-conceived ideas you may have about James or this subject matter. Trust me. And open your heart. Because to move forward, we cannot continue to turn a blind eye.I really dig this conversation. I hope you do too. More importantly, I hope it inspires you to take positive action for change — both personal and global. To view our conversation on YouTube, visit bit.ly/jamesaspey423. This week on “Rebel Hearts”: Kristie speaks with vegan activist, James Aspey. James is a man on a mission. He believes the majority of people in the world are participating in unnecessary and easily avoidable violence every time they purchase animal products. He is most well known for taking a year long vow of silence to raise awareness for animals and cycled 5000kms across Australia. He also got tattooed for 25 hours to raise money for charity and has reached tens of millions of people through his online speeches. In this interview, James talks about his own Hero’s Journey that got him to where he is today. This includes a Leukemia diagnosis at just 17 years old, which led him to become a vegetarian, a personal trainer, and eventually a Vegan. He shares some of the astonishing research he came across leading him to what he believes is the obvious choice. James and I discuss the difference between vegetarianism and veganism, and why the latter is the next logical step if you want to have an ethical stand. Find out why it’s not just eating meat that causes atrocities to these poor animals, but the dairy industry does, too. You will also hear James bust some of the myths surrounding veganism and how much we have been brainwashed by the meat and dairy industries. And throughout the entire interview, you will see how practicing compassion through veganism can (and does) certainly affect the state of the world. Watch this interview to learn how you, too, can make choices that make an impact. BE the change that you want to see in the world … it all starts with us!

Why James and this episode will blow your mind! We discuss: That 'life purpose' and happiness are not meant to be independent The power of making a decision and sticking to even the most challenging goals When you focus on a purpose bigger than yourself - anything is possible Defeating cancer and overcoming drug addictions Overcoming bulimia and related behaviours by understanding the cause How silence can amplify love, kindness, and change in our world Learning that if you want people to listen, don't push; show them, be patience, give love and compassion Facing demons and working through them in solitary James travels the globe giving free talks to educate about the option of becoming a vegan and helping people understand the suffering of animals to make food, clothing, and entertainment for human beings. He asks himself the confronting question: "If we don't need to kill and eat animals to be healthy, what are we doing this for?" At 17 he was diagnosed with leukemia and told he had six weeks to live. Fast forward to beating that disease, getting hooked on a lot of drugs and letting go of them, overcoming Bulimia and being a dedicated personal trainer for almost a decade, James met a man through his work that changed his perspective on eating animals forever. James brings patience, unconditional acceptance and a down to earth honesty that is very rare, to everything he speaks about. Even if you are completely new to the concept of veganism, have heard amazing or even challenging things against it this interview is worth the listen. I am certain that simply by hearing his journey, and the roller coaster that is his life, it would be impossible to walk away from listening to this episode not be touched in some way, for the rest of your life. You can find out more about James here I would to know, would you consider stopping eating animal products after listening to this episode? Why, why not? Love Ambz
Untangled | stories about untangling from society's giant rule book
Vegan Activist James Aspey says his untangling began when he landed a dream job on a cruise ship, swapping out his drug-taking party life for meditation and veganism. During a 10 day meditation course, James had the inspiration to take a 365 day vow of silence to raise awareness for animals and promote peace over violence. And, as you’ll hear in this interview, when this man puts his mind to something there’s no stopping him. James went on to travel around Australia and cycle 5000kms from Darwin to Sydney as part of his campaign, breaking his vow of silence on Australian TV in an iconic interview seen by millions. I was one of the millions of people watching. I had been vegan for just over a year and I remember watching James and crying with gratitude that someone had finally found a platform on a national scale to speak up for the rights of animals. This interview catapulted James into vegan activism and he now travels the world giving free speeches on veganism. He is captivating, entertaining and disarming. Exactly what the vegan community needs. In this Untangled episode, James and I explore what happens when we follow that one big crazy idea, choosing to step outside our comfort zones despite the fear and how each of us has the capacity to be a powerful instrument for change.
