This is a different sort of TITR episode. Just three dudes (but mainly Jay and Brian) bantering around about Rock and Roll. Brian Zahnd is a pastor and writer. Jay Newman is a pitmaster and BBQ artist. Both are avid students of music, specifically Rock and Roll, as you'll see. I love Rock and Roll and love the history behind it all. As far as theology goes, we don't really talk about a theology of music, but Jay does give a rather brilliant overview of why Rock music is theologically necessary toward the end of our conversation. Artists we discuss include Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Rush, Elvis, U2, Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Motley Cru, and many others that I can't remember. -- If you've enjoyed this content, please subscribe to my channel! How Much of the YPF Judgement Will Burford, Realistically, Recover? Burford Capital, a highly sophisticated litigation finance operation, has won an enormous judgment ($16 billion, where its share is upwards of $6 billion) against the Republic of Argentina. The question is how much of this judgment Burford is realistically likely to be able to collect on. Using a recent FT Alphaville article, “Dog Catches Argentine Car” by Jay Newman as our foil, we try to break down the likelihood of Burford getting a recovery. We think a significant recovery is plausible – particularly if the new administration in Argentina decides to default and renegotiate all of the myriad claims against it once and for all. This episode is sponsored by commercebuild. Early generations of e-commerce may have suited the needs and expectations of consumers, but they often fell short of the needs of B2B organizations. One of the key challenges in B2B, say our guests, Jay Newman and Megan Mann of commercebuild, is the alignment between critical business systems like ERP with the e-commerce experience that customers have come to expect based on their years of B2C online shopping. But as workers with buying authority trend younger and bring distinct e-commerce sensibilities to their organizations, B2B sellers must be prepared to account for some of the most challenging requirements in areas like personalization, inventory availability, order management, mobility, and self-service. Jay and Megan share recommendations based on some of the emerging scenarios their customers are already supporting and they offer advice on how Dynamics 365 Business Central customers can plan for a successful e-commerce project. Jay Newman from Catacomb Podcasts joins Craig to discuss voting and Christian nationalism. Jay's day job is pitmaster at Shotgun Willie's Barbecue in Nashville, and he also runs his own barbecue catering service, Newman Family Barbecue. When he's not transforming meat into award-winning tasty goodness, Jay bravely ventures into the culture wars on Twitter. While debating Christian nationalists and exposing their beliefs, he's been accused of “reading too much evangelical pop theology” from those caught up in the military mindset of taking the reigns of power to expand the physical territories of the gospel. Although George Bush was blasted for using the term “crusade” in the early 2000s, Christians are arming themselves for the new crusades and crying out for “jihads for Jesus”. This is the natural progression of Christian nationalism and does not look like what Jesus wants from His followers. Jesus was a pacifist and not interested in using the mechanics of state power to achieve the bringing of His Kingdom. When He came to earth, Jesus rejected the opportunity to reign over earthly kingdoms and allowed His enemies to kill Him. The early church understood this and were also anti-state pacifists. Even after the church and state became friends with Constantine, attempting to grab state power has never worked well for Christians. Jay would prefer Christians leave state control to non-Christians. In truth, any Christian who tries to exercise power antithetical to the Kingdom will have to deal with their inherent hypocrisy. Thus if a political compact, a civil or military league, covenant, or constitution, requires, authorizes, provides for, or tolerates war, bloodshed, capital punishment, slavery, or any kind of absolute injury - offensive or defensive, the man who swears, affirms, or otherwise pledges himself to support such a compact, league, covenant, or constitution, is just as responsible for every act of injury done in strict conformity thereto, as if he himself personally committed it. He is not responsible for abuses and violations of the constitution. But for all that is constitutionally done he is responsible. The army is his army, the navy his navy, the militia his militia, the gallows his gallows, the -^ pillory his pillory, the whipping-post his whipping-post, the branding-iron his branding-iron, the prison to prison, the dungeon his dungeon, and the slaveholding his slaveholding. When the constitutional majority declare war, it is his war. All the slaughter, rapine, ravages, robbery, destruction, and mischief committed under that declaration, in accordance with the laws of war, are his. Nor can he exculpate himself by pleading that he was one of a strenuous anti-war minority in the government. He was in the government. He had sworn, affirmed, or otherwise pledged himself, that the majority should have discretionary power to declare war. He tied up his hands with that anti-Christian obligation, to stand by the majority in all the crimes and abominations inseparable from war. It is therefore his war, its murders are his murders, its horrible injuries on humanity are his injuries. " They are all committed with his solemn sanction. There is no escape from this terrible moral responsibility but by a conscientious withdrawal from such government, and an uncompromising protest against so much of its fundamental creed and constitutional law, as is decidedly anti-Christian. He must cease to be its pledged supporter and approving dependent. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
If we want to help our students who are deconstructing, we have to look at some of the reasons that they're walking away. One of the most common reasons is a growing cynicism around church leaders. Here, I talk to my friend, Jay Newman, about the things that have made him cynical toward the church, while holding onto his faith in Jesus (9:16). We also talk barbecue for a minute (56:00) You can find the Catacomb Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and many other platforms.
Jay Newman was a HUGE player in the world of distressed international debt, trading tens or hundreds of millions of dollars of low-grade government bonds for a major hedge fund including a famous (in the hedge fund world) trade of Argentinian bonds which put him in direct conflict with that nation's government...and Jay won (see second link below). He's also the author of a great first thriller novel, "Undermoney", which I encourage everyone to check out.
There are a lot of challenges facing emerging markets right now. For a start, the dollar has been pretty strong, heaping pressure on governments that have borrowed in a foreign currency. Meanwhile, energy and food prices are soaring. These are two things that emerging markets often have to import, or subsidize for their citizens. Put it altogether and you have a toxic mix facing developing nations, and we've already seen acute problems emerge in Sri Lanka and Lebanon. On this episode, we speak with Jay Newman, a long-time EM debt specialist and a former portfolio manager for Elliott Management. Jay has a wealth of experience in emerging markets -- including successfully going head-to-head with Argentina after the country defaulted on its debt. In this episode, he describes how the world is in for one of the worst EM debt crises in decades, and gives us his thoughts on how foreign investors should approach these markets. He's just published his first novel, a financial, political thriller: Undermoney. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Jay spent 40 years in international finance, including at Elliot Management and Lehmans. His primary focus was on distressed EM sovereign debt. He was central to the historic 15-year fight to recover billions of dollars in defaulted Argentine debt. That campaign, which included the court-approved seizure of an Argentinian Navy ship in Ghana with 200 people aboard in 2012, reached a successful conclusion in 2016. The Wall Street Journal reported that the settlement was worth $2.4 billion, a gain of roughly 10 to 15 times the original investment. The Financial Times said the settlement ‘is seen as one of the greatest hedge fund trades' in history. Jay has now switched to writing with his debut novel, about dark money and global politics, Undermoney. On this podcast we discussed how to sue a country, how countries like Russia evade sanctions, how illicit money is moved through central banks, and much more.
Great guest this week. Happy to have the award winning pitmaster of Shotgun Willie's and Newman Family BBQ, Jay Newman, join us for a conversation on bbq and everything in between. Jay truly has a passion for what he does, and I encourage you to check him out. Jay Newman makes BIG bets. In his 40 year hedge fund career, Jay was the guy who fought to recover deca-billion dollar debt defaults by countries like the Congo, Panama, and Argentina. Recouping from these deadbeat governments required long term thinking, stealthy patience, and giant cojones, the same attributes required to publish a debut novel, which Jay did earlier this year. The New Yorker called his new book, Undermoney a combination of “espionage, financial intrigue, and geopolitics with a cynicism developed through years of observing politicians and Wall Street titans up close.” And because the plot lines include Russian oligarchs, private militias, and Vladimir Putin, Undermoney is also “unexpectedly timely.” I've read it: it's juicy and enticing. Suggested Donation is back with another sizzling hot podcast. We recorded with Jay Newman, the author of the recently released and highly acclaimed thriller Undermoney, which looks at the intersection of finance, military, and politics. Art is peppered throughout his book and we discuss the role that money plays in the art world and the role that art plays for its collectors. Jay, having spent a career in finance before beginning his first book, has a unique insight into the relationship between art and money and power and corruption all of which we explore in our conversation. We hope you enjoy this one!

Is Russian Sovereign Debt Now Worthless? Sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation are denying it access to foreign exchange reserves, and Russian bonds, trading around par just a short while ago, are now in distressed territory. Bloomberg (quoting former-Elliott guru Jay Newman) says the bonds are worthless, emphasizing that Russia hasn't waived sovereign immunity. It turns out that there is a lot of weird stuff in the Russian bonds, although they might not be as worthless as one might think. We dive into some of the details. Also: why is Ukraine insisting that it will continue to pay its own sovereign debt? Surely if any country had a good excuse for non-payment, it would be Ukraine. Producer: Leanna Doty
This week, Patrick Ceresna and Kevin Muir welcome Jay Newman to the show. Jay has been a developing markets debt trader for Lehman and Morgan Stanley. He then spent the next two decades working at Elliott Management, being best known as the hedge fund manager who chases dead beat countries for payment on defaulted bonds. As for the next stage of his life, Jay has written a fiction book - UNDERMONEY which is part James Bond, part Liars Poker.

Jay Newman joined The Protectors Podcast™ to discuss his new book UNDERMONEY, the world of finance, the definition of a hedge fund, and much more. Streaming now on ALL major podcast platforms. About Jay: Jay spent 40 years in international finance, with a primary focus on managing investments in sovereign debt, including the distressed sovereign debt of Latin American, Eastern European, African, and Asian countries. He is viewed as “the mastermind” behind a historic 15-year fight to recover billions of dollars in defaulted debt from the government of Argentina. The Book: A group of American patriots, all former military, are looking for a way to get their number one choice, Senator Ben Corn, elected president. Corn is a telegenic, perfect candidate—yet harbors secrets that threaten him. The group's goal is to implement their own foreign policy and fundamentally restructure American society. Essential to this scheme is Greta Webb, a sophisticated and beautiful CIA agent who is an expert on how global dark money flows, not to mention skilled in lethal hand-to-hand combat. Journeying across the globe from New York to Washington to Middle Eastern war zones to wine cellars in the French countryside to Putin's private restaurant in St. Petersburg, they become enmeshed in this underground world. And as they discover the secret of the dark money's pool's success—which involves manipulating the markets to rake in billions of dollars—they come into ever increasing danger. Ultimately the team of Americans must decide whether their ultimate objectives are worth the cost of ruthlessly sacrificing not just a few but potentially many human lives. This episode brought to you by Faraday Defense and Health To The Rescue. When the line between fiction and reality is blurred, great literature often emerges. Such is the case with 'Undermoney,' a political thriller written by Jay Newman. The author joins Leland to discuss the inspiration for his new book. Also, at noon ET on Thursday, Neil Young's entire catalog of music was removed by Spotify, as the platform called his bluff and chose to stick with their #1 podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Both Leland and Ryan applaud this decision by Spotify, and explain why it's the right one - both short- and long-term.

9. Linux Robotics(Linux机器人)作者:D.
