We all perceive his captivating presence on screen, teetering between grace and awkwardness, the intentional and the spontaneous. Bill Nighy's humor embodies the essential qualities of British comedy while also showcasing remarkable versatility. Born in Caterham, United Kingdom in 1949, Bill Nighy always dreamt of becoming a writer. However, life had other plans for him. After giving up his ambitions of becoming a writer, his comedic genius has been celebrated worldwide, earning him an Oscar for Best Actor, a BAFTA Award for Best Actor, and a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama. He started his career on the stage of Liverpool's Everyman Theatre and made his London debut with the Royal National Theatre in the late 1970s. He then appeared on British television and radio, relishing the opportunity to play "anyone, because on the radio your appearance doesn't matter." His career reached a turning point in 2003 marked by his involvement in the film “Underworld” where he played the vampire Elder Viktor, and especially by the role that brought him international recognition: the jaded rocker Billy Mack in “Love Actually”. Almost two decades later, he proved equal skills in a role that resonated more closely with him: the character of Mr. Williams, a mundane bureaucrat in “The Living'”(2022), who discovers a new zest for life. This performance comes highly recommended. Convinced that his impressive career is the result of chance and lucky encounters, Bill Nighy is a modest workaholic, embodying the epitome of British self-deprecation. In this once-in-a-lifetime episode, we delve into: Tribalism and football clubs, How Bill procrastinated his entire writing career and inadvertently became an award-winning actor, How self-doubt fuels procrastination, The few times he escaped England to visit Paris and Marseille as a teenager, Theater-induced anxiety and not throwing up before stepping onto the stage, Mod fashion A unique conversation marked by Bill's elegance, quirkiness, subtlety, charm, and kindness. During this time he's guarded Rudolf Hess and enjoyed the lifestyle. He was posted to Caterham in Surrey and undertook ceremonial duties at Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. Steve was medically discharged from the army after developing pneumonia which affected his breathing. After leaving the military Steve travelled the world and ran his own business. He finally returned to the UK.Steve maintained his passion for the military, albeit quietly. His life changed when he attended a family members wedding. It was during this he saw the grave of a young rifleman. The Rifleman had died 6 weeks before armistice, his grave was in a state of disrepair. Steve took it upon himself to tidy the area around the grave. This was the catalyst to his passion for restoring graves.Steve then undertook formal training in headstone restoration to ensure he could continue his great work.He attended a war cemetery in Dover which was within a civilian cemetery and as he left, he saw a grave which appeared to belong to a recipient of the Military Cross. However, it was the grave of colour Sgt Mcweeny, he was with the 44th Regt which became the Royal Anglians and had won the VC.Steve tidied up this grave and now looks after 57 VC graves in the Southeast. One of his restorations was the grave of the Rear Admiral Lucas Davies who is buried in Merryworth. Welcome to Lovecars On the Grid, the global motorsport podcast with Paul Woodman and Tiff Needell, as we dive into an adrenaline-fueled weekend of motor racing action where motorsport enthusiasts were treated to an array of exhilarating races across multiple continents. From MotoGP's prestigious event at Assen in Holland to the challenging WRC rally in Kenya, the IMSA sportscars, NASCAR, and Formula E battles in America, the progress of the F1 Academy at Zandvoort in Holland, and the riveting races at Silverstone featuring F4, Britcar, BEC, and Caterham championships The Cathedral of Speed, Assen, played host to a gripping round of the MotoGP championship. As riders battled for supremacy on the legendary Circuit, fans were treated to breathtaking overtakes and edge-of-the-seat action and finally a win for Britains Jake Denis! The World Rally Championship ventured into the rugged terrains of Kenya for a challenging event that tested drivers' skill and resilience. Amidst the breathtaking landscapes, competitors tackled treacherous off-road sections and showcased their mastery of high-speed rallying. It was Toyota top of the tree with Sébastien Ogier winning the epic African event ahead of team-mates Kalle Rovanperä, Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta. Across the pond, motorsport enthusiasts were spoiled for choice with a trio of thrilling events. The IMSA sportscars delivered high-speed battles, as renowned manufacturers and teams battled for supremacy on iconic American circuits. NASCAR showcased its captivating wheel-to-wheel racing, with drivers pushing their limits in a quest for victory and a win for the melon man. Formula E, the all-electric championship, impressed fans with its cutting-edge technology and fierce competition on urban street circuits, but is this real racing - or more "lift and coasting"? Returning to Holland, we shift our focus to the progress of the talented F1 Academy ladies at Zandvoort. These rising stars in the motorsport world demonstrated their skills as they honed their craft on the iconic Dutch circuit. Silverstone provided the stage for a captivating weekend of racing action. The F4 championship showcased the talents of young aspiring drivers, with wins for Coskun Irfan, Noah Lisle and James Piszcyk. While the Britcar championship captivated spectators with its endurance racing battles - and again - a very unlucky Jade Edwards, of BTCC fame - but the race was finally won by Alex Van Nederveen. The British Endurance Championship (BEC) pushed teams and drivers to their limits in grueling multi-hour races with 6 different classes, but an overall win for PB Racing in the R8 GT3, driven by Peter Erceg and Marcus Clutton. The Caterham championship thrilled fans with its intense battles on the GP track. Wins in Roadsport for Ed Cozzi and championship leader, Ben Timmons. It was a clean sweep in 270s with Fred Chiddicks sticking it on pole, and winning all 3 races. In 310s it was Germany 2-1 England - another win for Dominic Mansperger, also Harry Cook and Lars Hoffman.

BMW plans for the i5 to be instrumental in their electric transition and expects 15% of total sales to come from EVs this year.  Ford is developing an electric three-row SUV likened to a 'personal bullet train', with a projected release in 2025. The Explorer-sized EV, which could boost the company's sales, promises an impressive 350-mile range.  Tata Motors, the owner of Jaguar Land Rover, is reportedly choosing the UK over Spain to build a large electric car battery plant. The plant, which could create up to 9,000 jobs, signifies a significant investment in the UK's automotive sector.  Tesla is strongly considering building its next gigafactory in England, potentially bringing a large number of jobs to the region. This may spark competition between countries eager to secure this investment.  BYD, China's largest new energy vehicle maker, contemplates building a passenger vehicle manufacturing plant in Europe. The automaker, also looking to expand into Southeast Asia, has been successful in Thailand with its bestselling electric vehicle, the Atto 3.  Italian EV charger company alpitronic Americas LLC plans to open its U.S. headquarters in North Carolina, contributing to the state's growing EV industry. The company anticipates creating 300 jobs by 2027 and investing more than $18.3 million in the region.  Skoda has unveiled the Enyaq L&K, a final addition to its electric SUV series, with an impressive system output of 210 kW. The model also includes an array of new software and design features, promising enhanced technical performance.  SAIC Group is working on solid-state battery cells, with the first production model expected in 2025. Partnering with startup QingTao Energy Development, SAIC aims for the safe large-scale application of these batteries.  A Munro Live video revealed concerns about the GMC Hummer EV battery's efficiency. The cost-intensive manufacturing process, including the battery cradle's assembly from 139 steel components and 3500 welds, could make it less competitive.  A US study by Recurrent suggests that EV batteries should last as long as the vehicle itself. It also found that battery replacement under warranty could be beneficial for owners, potentially contradicting concerns about battery lifespan.  France achieved its goal of 100,000 public EV charging stations, setting a new target of 400,000 by 2030. The country's push for EV infrastructure has sparked significant investment in local startups focusing on charging solutions.  BMW's 2024 lineup will feature the i4 xDrive40, an AWD model with an additional electric motor, promising quicker acceleration and 307 miles per charge. BMW's 7-series will also see new additions, including the i7 eDrive50 and a hybrid variant, the 750e.  Caterham plans to showcase two electric prototypes of its Seven sports car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The company aims to be prepared for future legislation changes or parts availability issues that may necessitate an electric vehicle launch.  Tesla is extending its virtual power plant in South Australia to an additional 3,000 homes to aid low-income households. The solar arrays and Powerwalls supplied by Tesla are part of the company's larger plan to provide affordable residential electricity and grid services.  Solar car parks are gaining popularity as businesses aim to generate renewable energy on-site. The combination of energy production, car shade and shelter, as demonstrated in the UK, has potential for a massive increase in the deployment of solar car parks.  Octopus Energy's Electroverse has launched a product aimed at businesses, seeking to revolutionize the public EV charging experience. The platform includes a comprehensive dashboard with charging history and data access. Electroverse provides access to over 430,000 public charge points across 470 global brands.  Ample, a US-based startup, has unveiled its second-generation battery-swap station designs. The stations can swap a battery in just five minutes and can be set up in three days. The modular design caters to vehicles ranging from small cars to large trucks. Notably, Ample's technology is intended to work across manufacturers.  Helsinki Airport in Finland has opened a new parking hall equipped with nearly 350 charging stations for electric vehicles. The charging points are strategically located in the parking halls and are dedicated solely to charging vehicles.
