Evil Goes Online. For about 15 minutes.. and then we're just at a house party. Henry Cavill! Lance Henricksen! Pinhead decapitations! Well, they did what they could with a week's prep time.. sorta.
Director Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead & Spider-Man trilogies) just seemed born to apply his skills to a send-up of a spaghetti western and back in the mid '90's he got his chance. You've got Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct) at the PEAK of her star-power playing the strong-but-silent type, a gunslinger coming to the town of Redemption seeking revenge and getting roped into a gun-duel tournament....Hackman taking his Oscar-winning thug sheriff role from Unforgiven up to 11 as the main villain....journeyman players like Lance Henricksen, Keith David, Pat Hingle, and Tobin Bell all having a blast. PLUS you have a truly baby-faced Leo DiCaprio and youthful-looking Russell Crowe (in his American film debut) both bringing the heat with interesting supporting characters who form different types of bonds with Stone's protagonist. What results is a high-energy genre hybrid which was a flop on initial release but has since built up a cult following as it now approaches it's thirtieth anniversary. Let's find out who is the quickest....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Writer-director Doug Wicker joins us to talk about his latest short film What Happened to the Others? We discuss folk horror, lore, indie filmmaking, and creating popular films. Doug also wanted to talk about an underrated classic from 1988. It is a great show that features scares, laughter, and no nudity! One of the most exciting parts of any film festival are the short films blocks. This is especially true of genre fests where shorts are constantly pushing boundaries. What Happened to the Others? recently played at the Chattanooga Film Festival. It is filled with lore, well timed scares, and has an atmospheric setting. We also talk with with Doug about what his future holds in filmmaking. One of our big discussions was on the current nature of the business. The three of us talk about how streaming film fests have been helpful to short films. What Happened to Others? also has the horror tropes we all love. But why the lack of gore?Doug also decided on this week's movie review. Pumpkinhead pairs very well with Doug's short. The 1988 creature feature also has all kinds of lore, great creature design, and an emphasis on atmosphere. We share our memories of the film and talk about why its so memorable to us.But if we are going to talk about what it means to us, that means we also have to discuss the elephant in the room. Why is it so widely known, yet seemingly seen by so few. Pumpkinhead is one of those movies that everyone has heard of but no one seems to have actually seen. We also talk about the drawing power of a shirtless Lance Henriksen.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. As she prepared to direct her first solo feature, future Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow wanted to film a Western movie but she found it difficult to secure financing and a studio to back up her vision. So alongside co-writer Eric Red, who also penned the horror film “The Hitcher,” Bigelow shifted gears to combine her idea for a modern Western with the vampire genre that had become increasingly popular in recent years, especially after the success of “Fright Night” as well as another film called “The Lost Boys” that was set for release that same year. Bigelow didn't want to make the same kind of movie as traditional vampire stories steeped in gothic or even romantic themes. Instead, her interpretation was much darker and grimier than most vampire stories — in fact she never even uses the word vampire in her film. Set against the dusty backdrop of the southwest, a young cowboy named Caleb falls for a beautiful girl named Mae but he soon discovers that one kiss from her comes along with a deadly invitation to join her family…In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to black out the car windows and crank up the Tangerine Dream as we discuss the 1987 classic “Near Dark”…
Best sequel ever? Since its release, Aliens (1986) has garnered quite the reputation among fans worldwide. It is madman James Cameron's testerone injected action-sequel to Ridley Scott's cosmic horror masterpiece. In stead of one skulking xenomorph, there's a whole insects' nest worth of them. Time to get those guns blazing. The Beauty of Horror Podcast host and writer Chandler Bullock is fine with you and everyone enjoying this movie. Just don't pretend it is good as a sequel to the original Alien (1979)! And if you think that is a hot take, just wait. Chandler brings a few more to the table. We also discuss whether or not we watched the Director's Cut for the pod, the implication of the notorious 'S' at the end of the title and where the hell little girl Newt is supposed to be from. Stone Cold is a perfect piece of 90s cinema. It's hyper-masculine, nonsensical schlock; and it is glorious. Starring Brian Bosworth—a stud linebacker from Oklahoma University whose injuries derailed his NFL career—Stone Cold chronicles one man's struggle to bring a gang of degenerate bikers to justice. Yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. And it's just entertaining enough that one wonders why Bosworth didn't become more of a thing. After all, the 80s and 90s were littered with sub-par action films and actors. He had the build, and though he wasn't exactly overflowing with charisma, he still oozed enough cool with his ridiculous haircut/earring combo to warrant better work than he got after this. He also managed not to die of laughter when filming some of the lunacy this film entailed. Lance Henricksen, who chews every piece of scenery he's in as Chains, even adds a layer of legitimacy to the proceedings. Frankly, for this to only have grossed $9.1 million on a budget of $25 million is a crime. Its poor reviews are also nonsense. Come on, people! How many movies do we get to see William Forsythe in a leather vest with no shirt underneath!? Now sit back, do some target practice with an Icehouse, and burn some rubber! Stan Winston's directorial debut is a grim fairy tale involving a bitchin' vengeance demon (come on, it's Stan Winston! You KNOW the monster effects will rock) and Lance Henricksen! Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/HorrorMovieSurvivalGuide)
Frightober is upon us and Invasion of the Remake is ready for the blood and carnage that October horror movies bring. This week we travel to the graveyard to dig up an old friend, Pumpkinhead (1988). Pumpkinhead was the brainchild of special effects guru Stan Winston who came up with the story, oversaw the special effects, and even directed it. He created one of the most amazing creatures to ever grace the silver screen and launched a franchise. But Pumpkinhead wouldn't be what it was without the tortured performance of Lance Henricksen as Ed Harley who raises the creature in revenge for the death of his boy. Ed begins to realize the dark cost of raising the creature as he begins to become one with it. Invasion of the Remake revisits Pumpkinhead and re-imagines it for today's audiences setting it loose upon the world to wreak it's terrible vengeance once again. Episode 13 Carly Street Carly Street Producer and Screenwriter Joins Michele to talk about her films The Intruder and Fragile Storm. The Intruder is Carly’s latest short which is currently looking for investment and is in the middle of a crowd funding campaign. The Intruder starts with a routine trip to the shop turning into a hellish nightmare for Joanna, as she is forced to battle the demons occupying the darkest recesses of her mind. The Intruder is a visual tale depicting the harrowing effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Our goal is to shine a light on this serious issue that many people go through and are still scared to talk about. This is an issue present around us on a daily basis, living in the darkness. We believe that more awareness should be made around PTSD and help those afflicted to speak about their experiences. The film specifically explores the thought of being trapped inside your own mind…. and the consequences when that is a reality. PTSD sufferers in the media are generally depicted as male former servicemen. The reason for this is because finally, a dialogue about PTSD affecting soldiers due to the horrors they are forced to endure as part of their service, has been gaining voices. Whilst this is very true and what most people are rightly trying to bring awareness too, we want to shift our focus ever so slightly to highlight the effects of PTSD on the everyday men, women and children who are also affected, as well as our service man and women. They could be doctors, soldiers, police officers, teachers, parents. Every day ordinary people doing every day and ordinary things. This short will snapshot the ongoing cycle of PTSD for ALL of those people and out lead character is a woman. Here is the link: https://wwww.indiegogo.com/projects/the-intruder–3#/ Carly’s previous short was Fragile Storm, which has won a total of 10 awards during its festival run, including best script and starred Lance Henricksen. I wrote the original script and co-wrote the final draft with Dawn Fields. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4002314/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 https://www.facebook.com/streetscribez/ www.fragilestorm.com http://www.streetscribez.co.uk/ https://twitter.com/street_scribe __ International Women in Film Podcast http://InternationalWomenInFilm.com/ To join the International Women in Film Podcast Community https://michelethetrainer.leadpages.co/podcast-iwif-1/
Hey Horror Heads and thank you for downloading. These are probably the longest titles in show history so I apologize. This week we discuss House 3 also known as The Horror Show... this shouldn't be confusing or anything. We discuss this Lance Henricksen classic from 1989. Next week is the conclusion to our saga into part 3's! Facebook: Patreon: T-Shirts:
Continuing our loose theme of Not-So-Good Movies by Great Directors, we have 1981’s sequel to the Roger Corman classic Piranha. It’s Piranha Part Two: The Spawning! Or Piranha II: The Spawning. Or The Spawning. Or Piranha 2. Or Piranha II: Flying Killers. “Directed” by James Cameron! In actuality, Cameron was brought in as a patsy and quickly fired so writer and producer Ovidio G. Assonitis could finish the project himself. Anne Kimbrough (Tricia O’Neil) is a scuba instructor and marine biologist drop-out who teaches tourists how to deep dive at Hotel Elysium, a resort on an unnamed Caribbean island that is, for all intents and purposes, Jamaica. Her estranged husband Steve (Aliens’s Lance Henricksen) is on her case about all sorts of things, particularly the mangled corpse of a tourist found during one of her classes. Her breaking into the morgue to examine the body with new beau Tyler (Steve Marachuk) doesn’t help things either. The culprit is a school of homicidal genetically spliced flying piranhas, and everyone must find a way to stop them before the titular “spawning,” and event in which tourists get drunk and beat mating grunion to death on the beach.
