The boys drink and review Royal Crush from Flying Dog Brewery, then discuss how the combination of two events -- the death of George Floyd and the Covid pandemic -- made America crazy. (Starting at 3:40.) The confluence of these two events was just too much for the collective psyche. Everything had to change. + We had to get rid of the Indian princess on Land O Lakes. + The NFL put silly sayings in end zones and helmets. + All the voting laws had to change. + You have to believe that men can have periods and play in women's sports. + Public drug use and defacation became a right. + Tent cities and shoplifting became acceptable. + Angry mobs can pull down public monuments with no consequences. + ... and many more things .... We attained peak anger. Every grievance had to be aired and addressed. P&C list some of the craziness, then try to explain why it happened.

The Cabin is presented by the Wisconsin Counties Association and this week we're featuring Lincoln County: https://bit.ly/3QvVgDlThe Cabin is also brought to you by Group Health Trust: https://bit.ly/3JMizCXCampfire Conversation: Ana, Eric, and Jake explore winter activities in Wisconsin with an eye on the more unique approaches. Sure, you can go skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, and partake in many of the other typical winter activities, but how about sleigh rides, skijoring, and everybody's favorite New Year's activity (or one to avoid), the polar bear dips? We cover where you can take a sleigh ride across the winter season, not just during Christmas; how skijoring became popular in Wisconsin and places where you can partake, competitively or just for fun; plus some of the most famous places to jump into the frigid waters of Wisconsin's lakes to ring in the New Year, and a number of polar bear dips happening yet this winter, including February and March, in which you can partake. Ice boating is another popular sport you don't find in many other states, but we cover the history, the unique nature of this sport, and how Wisconsin has some of the best (frozen) waters for ice boating and racing, including some in Madison. Another unique feature is the Ice Caves, which during particularly cold winters form along the shores of Lake Superior off the coast of Bayfield County. They already have boat tours of those areas at times, but when the lake freezes well enough a walk on foot is particularly awe-inspiring. Winter festivals around the state offer some unique takes, including the Scandihoovian Winter Festival in Mount Horeb, JanBoree in Waukesha, the ice drags at the Merrill Winter Festival and more - something we detail both in this episode and in some upcoming. Of course, Wisconsin has a number of unique spots for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing - Jake has you covered on that angle. Yes, winters get long in Wisconsin, but with this guide you can maximize the fun in ways you can't in other states. Join us for the tour!  Inside Sponsors:Visit Lake Geneva: https://bit.ly/3wHvilf

The Cabin is presented by the Wisconsin Counties Association and this week we're featuring Jackson County: https://bit.ly/3zxUStdThe Cabin is also brought to you by Group Health Trust: https://bit.ly/3JMizCXCampfire Conversation: With the meat of snowmobiling season still just ahead of us, Eric, Ana, and Jake welcome Dylan Rose and Jack Sarama into The Cabin. These Wisconsin natives host the snowmobiling show Boondock Nation, where they tour all over the U.S. and Canada and sled coast-to-coast to showcase trails and destinations. In this episode, they focus on Wisconsin's snowmobiling trails and destinations. Discussions include the extensive network of trails (over 25,000 miles of trails criss-cross Wisconsin), the intense work involved in grooming and maintaining thousands of those trail miles, plus some great stops along the way. Some particular destinations receive focus, including the Eagle River and Land O Lakes areas and over to St. Germain and Sayner, where the modern style snowmobile was invented. The trails in many North Woods areas and the adjoining U.P. of Michigan often use former railroad rights-of-way and expansive lakes that allow you to really “open up” on the trails. Additional trail systems exist throughout the state, including Langlade County which bills itself as the “county of trails.” Additional systems in southern Wisconsin, where the seasons are shorter for snowmobiling, also offer trails closer to the larger cities. When you wish to ride off-trail but still want to have guidance and avoid private property, apps like OnX Offroad help you do just that. Yes, some key apps and equipment for better snowmobiling gets covered in this episode, too. Some events centered around snowmobiling happen across the state too, including radar runs and group rides; we dive into some of those, too, including the one at Bent's Camp near Land O Lakes, which Jack and Dylan frequent when they're not filming out west. This episode will definitely prep you for snowmobiling season, and as Jack said, remember: in the end, we're all squeezing the same throttle.Connect to Boondock Nation: https://boondocknation.com/Discover more about the onX Offroad app: https://www.onxmaps.com/offroad/appConnect to the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs: https://awsc.org/Get maps of snowmobile trails across Wisconsin: https://www.sco.wisc.edu/maps/snowmobile-trail/Inside Sponsors:Washington County -  https://bit.ly/3qayJALShop Discover Wisconsin - https://shop.discoverwisconsin.com

We hope to create a space where people can say whatever they want, and we are not a success until we have someone lose their job at SNL. This week on the podcast we have Rachel Crowe (Barjory Buffet) & Oshee Baugus (Chapel Perilous). This episode starts off hot with a story of an Astro-nut and never loses steam with lessons on everything from crypto-jews to why M&M's were invented for diplomacy. There's a story of a NASA engineer addicted to moon rocks (crack), a recap of Oshee's benefit show and Rachel is educated on Jenkem. Oshee does a perfect impression of Jordan Peterson, and he talks about why he personally misses the Land-O-Lakes lady. With his experience of working very different areas of the state agronomically, he’s seen where farmers are generally the same, and where things are different.Today we navigate a variety of topics from tillage to carbon to pH to mistakes he’s seen some farmers make in a dry year like this one. “I definitely think it doesn't matter who they are as a farmer. I think they all have the same goal in mind and it's passing on what they have to the next generation….You can't just mine your soil, deplete it of all its nutrients, and deplete it of all its resources. ” - Kyle Okke He is seeing a trend with producers increasingly focusing on balanced fertility programs, better moisture retention, and making adjustments to retain as much topsoil as possible. Whether the producer wants to call it “soil health” or not the objective is to prolong the viability of ground they have available to farm. He has observed a lot of success and increasing popularity with strip tilling practices as a compromise between better agronomics and soil health. He cautions producers from focusing on any one factor as an individual. For example, increasing carbon levels without adjusting for the carbon to nitrogen ratio. The concern here is that increased crop residue that leads to increased carbon in the soil will also temporarily tie up nitrogen in the soil. So rather than focusing on the carbon by itself, looking at the carbon as part of a system seems to be a better use and adjustment for soil health. He offers his opinion on carbon credits in light of this opinion. “The big thing is that this is incentivizing good soil health practices. That's what I see behind it is that it's an incentivization to do the right thing, you know, just to start building soil health.” - Kyle Okke As a final note, Kyle shares that he sees technology as a significant investment that will have a good return in the long term for producers. “I think technology is really going to pay for those guys that are adopting it and utilizing this data that they're collecting.” This Week on Soil Sense: Meet Kyle Okke, regional agronomist at Winfield United Learn about his experience and observations of trends working across the states of North Dakota and Montana Explore his views on different agronomic practices from a high-level systems perspective rather than looking at one nutrient or factor at a time Be sure to listen to The Agronomist Happy Hour Podcast that Kyle co-hosts. Sustainability is shaping the U.S. dairy industry’s future, making it better equipped to make sure the world has the nutrition it needs, says Pete Kappelman, a longtime dairy farmer and Land O'Lakes' Senior Vice President of Member and Government Relations.  “U.S. dairy farmers are deeply involved and concerned about the many communities that they touch. And that starts with producing a safe, nutritious, affordable food, but it also includes things like being good stewards of the land, for the good of the planet,” as well as being able to pass a farm down to future generations, said Kappelman in a Dairy Defined podcast. “In order to feed a growing population, we've got to work together across continents, across cultures and markets to make abundant nutritious food available so everyone can realize their full potential.”

In this month’s episode, we’re looking at how companies FINALLY addressed racist imagery in their products following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. We look at brands like Uncle Ben’s, Land-O-Lakes, and the infamous Washington Redskins to discuss why this pervasive imagery could be more harmful than you think. Later, we break down dozens of Aunt Jemima commercials throughout the decades in order to turn the brand’s unsavory slogan, “What took you so long?” into a personal challenge. Why the hell did it take decades before the scarf-wearing Mammy figure and her racist origins were addressed? How did they try to rebrand Aunt Jemima over time without actually addressing the issue? And was their eventual rebranding enough?15 racist brands, mascots, and logos that were considered just another part of American lifehttps://www.businessinsider.com/15-racist-brand-mascots-and-logos-2014-6#uncle-ben-1946-present-2Cream of Wheat to Drop Black Chef From Packaging, Company Sayshttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/27/business/cream-of-wheat-man.htmlOpinion | My Native American father drew the Land O’Lakes maiden. Laura Boll, her husband, and their two young children thought the Northwoods would provide them a brief refuge. They came to stay at their vacation home between Land O’Lakes and Phelps as the pandemic started last March. “We came up here the week that happened, thinking, maybe we’ll be here for a couple weeks to a couple months,” Boll told WXPR in September. The family lived in a Chicago suburb but opted to try to wait out the worst of COVID-19 at their second home on Kildare Lake. “We were in a small, three-bedroom rental house with a teeny backyard [in Chicago]. Up here, the house is way bigger, way more land, way more space,” Boll said. When we first talked, spring had bled into summer, the pandemic hadn’t eased, and the family decided to enroll the kids at Land O’Lakes Elementary School. But it thought it might well eventually head back to Chicago. Now, the story is different. We caught up with Boll again this week to see how things were going. The family decided to stay long-term
