Edwards Deming and we talk about his experiences learning from Dr. Deming in the famed four-day seminar which included going through the Red Bead Experiment. John is a frequent contributor to Industryweek.com and is the author of The Façade of Excellence: Defining a New Normal of Leadership. John also frequently helps as a judge for IndustryWeek Best Plants Award competition. John has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Tennesee Tech University and an International MBA from Purdue University and the University of Rouen in France.     Today's guest is Nick Katko. Nick is the President and owner of BMA. For over 30 years, Nick has leveraged his lean accounting experience and philosophy in assisting BMA clients in developing, leading, and coaching them in their lean accounting transformations. Nick has worked with companies around the world, from family-owned businesses to multi-national companies, in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, software, engineering, and service. Nick is an early pioneer of lean accounting. In the 1990's, as CFO of Bullard, Nick implemented a complete lean management accounting system in conjunction with Bullard's lean transformation, which included eliminating standard costing. Nick is a regular speaker at the annual Lean Accounting Summit and has also presented at conferences in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia.     Today's guest is Jeff Kaas I've had several guests of the podcast encourage me that I needed to speak to our guest today. When I reached out to Jeff about being on the podcast, he emailed me back and said, “Let's chat first, I want to get to know you.”  We ended up having one of the coolest conversations that I've had in my lean journey.  I wish that I had pressed record and had that conversation to share but I'm really pleased to share our scheduled interview because Jeff is a leader that just leads in a different way and is one of the most humble company Presidents that I have ever met. Jeff is President of Kaas Tailored a company that focuses on upholstery solutions and design services and also now produces PPE in Mukilteo, Washington.     Today we are going to do something different.   Today's guest is Jamie Flinchbaugh.  Jamie was the second guest on The Lean Leadership Podcast. You probably know Jamie from The Hitchhiker's Guide to Lean or some of the other publications that he has written in from time to time. He is also the co-host of Lean Whiskey Podcast with Mark Graban.   Jamie has helped purpose-driven leaders craft effective, resilient organizations at over 300 companies, leveraging more than 30-years of experience and helping build over 20 companies.     Today's guest is Bob Rush Bob Rush has more than 40 years of manufacturing experience in the High Technology segment, working with products ranging from disk drives and computers to lasers and finally to electric vehicles. He has a curiosity-driven personality, loving to learn new things. He has held roles ranging from shipping clerk to VP of Operations. His personal lean journey began with an introduction to Kaizen through the Shingijutsu consulting firm more than 25 years ago. He has applied those lessons learned and has spread the love of lean as much as possible. Bob Is presently doing some consulting work but spends more time on mentoring/advising the next generation of lean leaders. He has been active on LinkedIn and frequently posts one of his semi-amusing pieces called Lean Observations of an old guy. Bob lives in Murfreesboro, TN with his wife and youngest son, with 3 older sons living their own lives.     Today's guest is Steve Spear.  Steve is the author of the award-winning and critically acclaimed book, The High-Velocity Edge. He is a senior lecturer at MIT Sloan School of Management and is a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. He is also a founder of a consulting firm built on the tenets of his book, and of See to Solve Corp., a business process software company. Expert on the ways that “high-velocity organizations” generate and sustain advantage, even in the most hyper-competitive markets, Spear has worked with clients spanning technology and heavy industry, software and healthcare, and new production design and manufacturing. Spear's 1999 Harvard Business Review article, “Decoding the DNA of the Toyota Production System,” is part of today's lean manufacturing canon. “Fixing Healthcare from the Inside, Today” was an HBR McKinsey Award winner in 2005 and one of his four articles to win a Shingo Research Prize. Spear helped develop and deploy the Alcoa Business System, which recorded hundreds of millions of dollars in annual operating savings, and he was integral in developing the “Perfecting Patient Care” system for the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative. He has published in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Annals of Internal Medicine, and Academic Medicine, and he has spoken to audiences ranging from the Association for Manufacturing Excellence to the Institute of Medicine.     Today's guest is Jim Huntzinger. Jim began his career as a manufacturing engineer with Aisin Seiki (a Toyota Group company and manufacturer of automotive components) when they transplanted to North America to support Toyota. Over his career he has also researched at length the evolution of manufacturing in the United States with an emphasis on lean's influence and development. In addition to his research on TWI, he has extensively researched the history of Ford's Highland Park plant and its direct tie to Toyota's business model and method of operation. Huntzinger is the President and Founder of Lean Frontiers and a graduate from Purdue University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology and received a M.S. in Engineering Management from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
