Join our team by supporting us monthly: https://theisraelguys.com/donate Despite the colder weather moving across Israel, things are heating up once again with Hezbollah in Lebanon. It's unclear if the Lebanese government has not only the resolve, but also the ability to hold up its end of the ceasefire with Israel about disarming Hezbollah. Hezbollah has repeatedly refused to lay down its weapons and in direct defiance has continued fortifying its positions south of the Latani River. These developments have not gone unnoticed by Israel who have been swift to destroy any form of terrorist buildup. The current ceasefire in Gaza has freed up a lot of resources for Israel allowing them to pursue Hezbollah with a more concentrated effort. Without international intervention, it appears that another fullscale war in Lebanon is imminent. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Military reporter Emanuel Fabian joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. A new round of negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal between Hamas and Israel began in Qatar on Saturday after the Israeli military launched its new expanded offensive in the Gaza Strip, dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots,” that will seek to “seize strategic areas” of the Hamas-run Strip. Fabian describes the slow rollout of the operation so far and how many more troops have entered Gaza as of Sunday morning. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis say they fired two ballistic missiles at Israel early Sunday morning. This comes after Israeli fighter jets carried out a wave of airstrikes in Yemen on Friday afternoon, targeting two Houthi-controlled ports in the west of the country, and threatened to kill the terror group’s leader. We discuss the growing realization that the terrorist group is undeterred by IAF strikes and whether Israel will take another tack soon. The Israel Defense Force said Saturday that it killed a Hezbollah commander in a drone strike in Lebanon. The operative, who was targeted on a road near Mazraat Jemjim — some 30 kilometers from the Israeli border — in the Tyre District, was the commander of Hezbollah’s forces in the Beaufort Castle area, the military said. Fabian updates us on who he was and what he was allegedly up to. To end the program, we discuss Israel's participation in last night's Eurovision final and Yuval Raphael's second-place finish. Israel's 2025 contestant, who survived the Nova festival massacre on October 7, 2023, won the popular vote, but was less warmly received by the jury. Fabian gives some reasons why. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Renewed tension over Tehran's nuclear programme has raised fears that Israel may strike Iranian atomic facilities this year. Israel and Lebanon have agreed to hold negotiations to settle border disputes and release more Lebanese detainees. Hamas has said it is waiting for next steps from talks in Doha for implementing the second phase of a ceasefire with Israel. This episode features Bob Tollast, Mohamad Ali Harisi and Amr Mostafa.

Israel has hit Hezbollah very hard over the past few days, killing much of its senior leadership and eroding its capabilities. It has also displaced hundreds of thousands of Lebanese and now has ground forces in Lebanon. Iran has responded with a missile barrage against Israel, to which an Israeli response is widely expected. Since October 7th, a low-grade regional war has played out across the Middle East, pitting Israel and its Western allies against various Iran-backed forces. The Yemeni Houthi faction has targeted ships in the Red Sea in response to Israel's war on Gaza, prompting a wave of US and British airstrikes on Yemen. Meanwhile, Iraqi militias have repeatedly fired rockets at US forces in their country. Hezbollah and Israel have also traded deadly fire on the Lebanon–Israel border, leading to mass displacement on both sides. Now, with Israel's recent assassinations of a senior Hezbollah commander in a Beirut suburb, and of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, these relatively-limited conflicts threaten to turn into a far-bloodier conflagration. On this episode of On the Nose, senior reporter Alex Kane interviews regional expert Trita Parsi and scholar Karim Makdisi about these assassinations, the strategies and interests of Iran and Hezbollah, and the Biden administration's response to the prospect of a full-scale regional war. Thanks to guest producer Will Smith and to Nathan Salsburg for the use of his song “VIII (All That Were Calculated Have Passed).”ARTICLES MENTIONED AND FURTHER READING“Regional War: An Explainer,” Alex Kane and Jonathan Shamir, Jewish Currents“The Middle East Is Inching Toward Another War,” Trita Parsi, TIME“Biden Warns Netanyahu Against Escalation As Risk Of Regional War Grows,” Barak Ravid, Axios“Bomb Smuggled Into Tehran Guesthouse Months Ago Killed Hamas Leader,” Ronen Bergman, Mark Mazzetti, and Farnaz Fassihi, The New York Times
Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. A source in Hezbollah tells Al Jazeera that the terror group launched more than 200 rockets and some 20 drones at military bases in northern Israel on Thursday midday. What do we know about any damage? Israel said Wednesday evening that it had received Hamas's response to the latest truce-hostage deal outline, and would evaluate the document before replying. What do we know about any new changes or shifts in position? The Shin Bet security service has reportedly reprimanded the senior official who was responsible for signing off on the release of Gaza City's Shifa Hospital director Mohammad Abu Salmiya from Israeli prison earlier this week. Horovitz unravels this knotty situation. It's an election long weekend with the UK, France and Iran going to the polls. Horovitz discusses each nation separately. For more updates, please check out The Times of Israel's ongoing live blog. Discussed articles include: Senior Hezbollah commander killed in IDF strike in southern Lebanon Israel says it's studying latest Hamas response to Gaza ceasefire-hostage deal Shin Bet said to reprimand agent who signed off on Shifa director's release to Gaza Dangerous incompetents at the heart of government are subverting Israel's war on Hamas Labour tipped for historic win as UK voters head to the polls THOSE WE HAVE LOST: Civilians and soldiers killed in Hamas's onslaught on Israel THOSE WE ARE MISSING: The hostages and victims whose fate is still unknown Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts.
