In this Monday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan breaks down the near-collapse of the Trump Iran Peace Deal as Tehran pulls out of negotiations, announces its intent to pursue a nuclear weapon, and reasserts control over the Strait of Hormuz through drone strikes and missile exchanges with US forces. With the Middle East on edge, Bryan also covers a historic framework peace agreement signed between Lebanon and Israel, both united in pushing Iran and Hezbollah out of the region, while Hezbollah vows civil war in response. On the home front, Bryan tracks the widening civil war inside the Democrat Party as avowed Marxists rack up electoral wins and party leadership fractures over how to respond, with Trump calling it the most serious threat to the country in 250 years. Bryan also addresses a Washington Post analysis finding that AI chatbots carry political bias and should not be used as fact-checkers. Plus, Ukraine's drones pound Russian refineries and infrastructure in what Kyiv calls "Ukraine's sanctions," Germany's military recruitment disaster forces a reckoning with mandatory service, and Texas researchers find a promising gut bacteria connection for lupus patients. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Israel and Lebanon were set to hold a fresh round of talks between their ambassadors to the US on Tuesday, as Hezbollah continued to target Israeli troops in Lebanon and fresh IDF strikes were reported. The talks come as US President Donald Trump indicated on Monday that Washington had brokered a fresh truce between Israel and Hezbollah, after the one reached in April unraveled in recent days. Magid weighs in on US-Israeli relations after Trump reportedly fumed at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a Monday call, calling the premier “fucking crazy” and telling him that everyone “hates Israel.” He demanded Israel agree to a ceasefire with the Hezbollah terror group, and US officials were quoted as saying Trump told Netanyahu that he has kept him out of prison, an apparent reference to Trump’s repeated public demand that Israeli President Isaac Herzog pardon the prime minister, who is in the midst of a lengthy corruption trial. We hear how Gulf states are handling the Iran war after Kuwait’s military said its air defenses responded to an “enemy” attack on Thursday. Gaza mediators were set to renew disarmament talks with Hamas in Egypt on Thursday and were considering alternatives to US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for ending the Gaza war, two Arab diplomats involved in the process told The Times of Israel. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. What will it take to protect the Strait of Hormuz from Iran's sea mines and fast boats? With Tehran now charging extortionate tolls, attacking commercial ships who do not get permission to transit and reportedly laying around 20 sea mines, the vital waterway has become a living nightmare. President Donald Trump today told the US Navy to fire on any boats laying mines, but with Pentagon estimates that it will take six months to mine-sweep the Strait, is that enough? To discuss the problem, Venetia Rainey is joined by Emma Salisbury, an Associate Fellow at the Royal Navy Strategic Studies Centre. Emma explains how American minesweeping capabilities became so heavily degraded, why Iran's non-conventional navy remains so effective and hard to destroy, and the maritime signs that Trump may be considering a return to all-out war. Plus, senior foreign correspondent Sophia Yan talks through the latest news and updates from the region, including the status of the US-Iran ceasefire, reports that America is running out of munitions, and the Lebanon-Israel peace talks to disarm Hezbollah. This week broke something in me. Not one story...all of them. Every headline involved a man who could not handle his own power, his own entitlement, his own rage, or his own liquor. So I'm doing something different. I'm entering them into evidence.Five exhibits. One trial. One verdict.EXHIBIT A: I posted "not all men, right?" on Instagram after the CNN rape academy investigation. A man showed up in my comments within minutes to tell me I was painting him out to be a predator. Nobody said his name. Nobody tagged him. He told on himself for free. We start here.EXHIBIT B: FBI Director Kash Patel's security detail had to request breaching equipment... SWAT gear...because they couldn't wake him up behind a locked door. He was allegedly too drunk. This has happened multiple times. We are at war with Iran. The man in charge of domestic counterterrorism is unreachable at 3 AM. Sleep well.EXHIBIT C: The Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump threw such a prolonged screaming tantrum during an active military rescue operation that his own aides removed him from the briefing room. He then celebrated Easter by posting profanity-laced threats on Truth Social, signed "Praise be to Allah," and asked his staff "how's it playing?" He is also feuding with the Pope. The Pentagon threatened the Vatican. An Israeli soldier took a sledgehammer to a statue of Jesus in Lebanon.EXHIBIT D: Eric Swalwell: progressive Democrat, Women's March attendee, co-sponsor of the Violence Against Women Act — resigned from Congress after multiple women accused him of sexual assault, including drugging and rape. He used Snapchat because it auto-deletes. That is not a coincidence.EXHIBIT E: A man in Shreveport, Louisiana, murdered eight children this morning. Seven were his own. The youngest was eighteen months old. One was shot on the roof trying to escape. There have been 119 mass shootings in the United States this year. We are in April. The closing argument is a single question I need every woman listening to ask every man she knows. The answer is the verdict. Not all men. But every single week.New episode. A 10-day ceasefire is now in effect between Israel and Lebanon, but Israel says it is not leaving southern Lebanon and Hezbollah says that gives it the right to resist. The U.S. naval blockade on Iran is firmly in place as Defense Secretary Hegseth compared reporters covering the war to the enemies of Jesus in the Bible, part of a pattern of religious language from the Pentagon that is raising eyebrows. And President Trump has nominated Dr. Erica Schwartz to lead the CDC after nearly a year without a confirmed director, as the agency has been struggling under budget cuts and a loss of public trust.Want more analysis of the most important news of the day, plus a little fun? The head of the International Energy Agency warned Europe has roughly six weeks of jet fuel left due to the Strait of Hormuz situation, with possible flight cancellations and energy shortages ahead. Congress failed for the third time to pass a War Powers resolution to curb the Iran war, this time losing 214-213. At $10 billion a week, the White House budget director refused to say how much the war will cost, explaining that costs "fluctuate." It was a full day of congressional hearings. RFK Jr. faced the first of seven back-to-back days of testimony. Trump nominated an actual doctor — a 24-year public health veteran — to lead the CDC, which is genuinely surprising. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll testified that he pushed back against Hegseth's general-firing spree, with Republicans on the committee taking his side. Pete Hegseth quoted Pulp Fiction instead of the Bible at a Pentagon prayer service. Budget director Russell Vought testified that DHS is "disintegrating." ICE deported 442,000 people last year, but only 38% had any kind of criminal record — pending charges included.Minnesota prosecutors charged a federal ICE agent with assault for pointing his gun at drivers on a state highway — the first case of its kind, with 17 more incidents under review. An 86-year-old French widow of an American military veteran has been in ICE detention since April 1st, after missing an immigration appointment while settling her late husband's estate — reportedly tipped off by his son over an inheritance dispute. A judge blocked above-ground construction on Trump's White House ballroom pending congressional authorization, though underground bunker work continues. His 250-foot DC arch cleared a federal design review despite massive public opposition. Spirit Airlines could liquidate as early as this week. United Airlines' CEO pitched Trump on merging with American Airlines — which would control nearly 40% of the global airline market. Democrats won New Jersey's special election by 59 points. House Votes to Extend Warrantless Surveillance on You. Anti-Vax RFK Jr Hates DEI. Mamdani vs the Rich. Hegseth's Fight with the Pope Continues. Zelensky Calls for War Crimes Tribunal. Trump says he needs expanded spying powers “for our national security.” But are you really good with this government spying on you, with Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard and the nationalist crew peeking into your life in the name of “patriotism”? In this fiery solo “Rebel Yell Friday” episode 495, Paul Rieckhoff breaks down Trump's new Iran deal spin and the fight over the Strait of Hormuz, the dangerous 10‑day FISA surveillance extension, the purge of American generals, and ICE's ongoing culture of cruelty—from gassing protesters and kicking in doors to detaining an 85‑year‑old WWII widow. He rips into RFK Jr.'s unhinged anti-vax crusade, calls out attacks on NPR, PBS, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel, and explains why huge new donations to public media are a win for democracy. From Ukraine's brutal night under 300 drones and 19 ballistic missiles to the Pope's social media smackdown of Hegseth, this is national security and politics analysis you won't get on party-line shows. Paul also brings you some badly needed light to contrast all that heat. He spotlights New York City Mayor Mamdani's new “tax the rich” pied-à-terre tax that targets vacant $5M+ luxury pads to fund childcare, cleaner streets and safer neighborhoods—and explains why independent, populist ideas like that are catching fire while both parties fail us. Paul salutes President Zelensky's call for a global war crimes tribunal, leads a first-of-its-kind podcast moment of silence for Ukraine's murdered children, and then closes with “something good”: the return of Avengers: Doomsday, NHL and NBA playoffs, downtown Little League opening day, and a reminder that America is a team sport. If you're among the 45% of Americans who are independent—or just independent-curious—this fast, fun, and relentless Friday episode will help you stay a step ahead, stay fired up, and stay vigilant. -WATCH full video of this episode here. -Join IVA and stand up to Trump's Forever Wars. -Learn more about Paul's work to elect a new generation of independent leaders with Independent Veterans of America. -Learn more about American Veterans for Ukraine here. -Remember Independent is an Attitude. -Learn more about The Headstrong Project for Veterans, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and Department of Veterans Affairs resources in your area. From October 2, 2024: Israel has hit Hezbollah very hard over the past few days, killing much of its senior leadership and eroding its capabilities. It has also displaced hundreds of thousands of Lebanese and now has ground forces in Lebanon. Iran has responded with a missile barrage against Israel, to which an Israeli response is widely expected. To discuss the latest events in the expanding war, Lawfare's Editor-in-Chief Benjamin Wittes sat down with Firas Maksad of the Middle East Institute, Natan Sachs of the Brookings Institution, and Lawfare Senior Editor Scott R.
