Is the entire California election system engineered from the top down? As the California primary election results 2026 stall in a grueling California 38 day vote count, millions of voters are asking the exact same question: “Why does California take so long to count votes?” The mainstream media calls the endless California ballot counting delay normal—but behind the scenes, a battle for California election integrity has just gone nuclear. From the historic Steve Hilton Xavier Becerra governor race to the chaotic Los Angeles mayoral primary 2026, the establishment is facing a massive populist revolt. The internet erupted after a stunning shift caused the Spencer Pratt lead flips overnight in the highly contested Nithya Raman vs Spencer Pratt race, igniting a national conversation over the state's controversial ballot tabulation process California uses to finalize the LA mayor race update. Now, the MAGA movement is calling it out directly as the front line of the Gavin Newsom vs Trump election fraudwar, claiming a widespread California mail in ballot cheating scandal is playing out in broad daylight. Activists are pointing directly to the systemic flaws inside the state's Voter Roles, lax Motor Voter auto-registrations, Universal Mail In Ballots, and weaponized Homeless registration voting rings. They thought they had the Los Angeles political news 2026 narrative locked down. They were wrong. A legal bombshell has just dropped. State Assemblyman Bill Essayli has triggered a sweeping Trump US attorney Los Angeles investigation, sending federal auditors into the system to freeze the data. We have just obtained a leaked internal memo from a whistleblower inside the registrar's office. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Jessica Steinberg for today's episode. US President Donald Trump celebrated the rescue operation for a downed US airman in Iranian territory, reports Magid, offering new details of the daring operation that included significant sabotage against Iranian forces, and a contingency plan in which the rescue teams had to assemble helicopters on the spot. It's crunch time for talks with Iran, Magid discusses, as Trump offered a deadline with his threat to blow up every bridge and power plant on Tuesday night if Iran doesn't accept the US proposal for a deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. A Friday deadline also looms for Hamas with a phased disarmament plan over eight months, says Magid, as Nikolai Mladenov, the High Representative for the Board of Peace, issued his own ultimatum to the terrorist group. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates.
President Trump says the US will end its war against Iran in the next "2 or 3 weeks" - but it will be up to other countries to secure the vital Strait of Hormuz. We'll look at how Australia is dealing with rising fuel costs, and whether it's a good idea for Britain's King Charles to visit Washington at this moment. Also: Donald Trump's White House ballroom project is halted; a special report from the North Sea on a plan to capture carbon dioxide; shocking news for families who had fertility treatment in Northern Cyprus; and we check in with our reporter at Cape Canaveral ahead of NASA's first Moon mission in five decades.
President Donald Trump said he foresaw the US ending the war on Iran within two to three weeks, suggesting the US had largely accomplished its military goals and would leave it to other nations to resolve issues with the Strait of Hormuz. Wall Street rallied today on optimism that the war that has jolted global markets and disrupted energy supplies may be nearing a conclusion. We spoke to Ross Mayfield, Investment Strategist for Baird Private Wealth Management. And for more on President Trump's latest comments on war in Iran, we heard from Jessica Genauer, Academic Director of the Public Policy Institute at the University of New South Wales. State media in Iran say officials have sent their response to a fifteen-point US plan to end the war and are now awaiting an American reply. Speaking at the White House, President Trump again insisted that Iran was "begging" for a deal despite repeated denials in Tehran. Also on the programme, lawyers have tussled over how to fund the defence of the ousted Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro at his second court hearing since his capture by US troops; and, the IOC has banned transgender women from all Olympic women's sports.(President Trump hosts cabinet meeting at the White House, Washington, USA - 26 Mar 2026. President Trump says the US Navy will escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz "if necessary", after shipping traffic almost entirely halted through the key sea passage following Iranian threats to "set fire" to ships. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Jessica Steinberg for today's episode. In the foreign policy portion of his lengthy State of the Union address, US President Donald Trump repeated his oft-mentioned talking points about Iran, Magid reports, noting the president's terminology about never hesitating to confront threats against the US. Trump has said he is "aware of" last week's killing of Palestinian-American 19-year-old Nasrallah Abu Siam in an armed settler attack in the West Bank, and Magid reviews why the US administration has not commented or gotten involved in this latest incident of Jewish settler violence. As the US Embassy in Israel announces first-time pop-up locations for consular services in the Jewish settlements of Efrat and Beitar Illit, Magid discusses the decision to hold the project in these new locations. With a formal communication channel established between the Board of Peace and the Palestinian Authority, Magid discusses how the PA is seeking legitimacy and aims to be as involved as possible in the Gaza reconstruction. Magid also reports on conversations with Arab and European diplomats involved in the Board of Peace, and their comments about the enormous amount of pressure required to be applied on Hamas and Israel for the disarmament of Hamas to succeed. Today's Headlines: This weekend was a lot. The Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl, the Winter Olympics kicked off in Milan, and Vice President JD Vance managed to make himself the main character by getting booed at the opening ceremony and delaying U.S. figure skater Alysa Liu with his massive motorcade — after reportedly flying a plane full of food to Italy, of all places. Embarrassing, but not even close to the most serious news. The FBI has invited election officials from all 50 states to an unusual “election briefing” later this month, amid growing concerns about Trump's repeated calls to nationalize elections. At the same time, DHS has reportedly used administrative subpoenas to try to obtain user data on critics of the Trump administration, including people sharing information about ICE activity or emailing officials to oppose deportations. The Tulsi Gabbard saga also deepened, with new reporting revealing that she allegedly blocked the NSA from circulating a report about a suspicious phone call involving someone tied to foreign intelligence and a person close to Trump — a move that ultimately triggered the whistleblower complaint now under scrutiny. Meanwhile, fallout from the Epstein files continued, with multiple high-profile figures in the U.S. and Europe facing investigations, resignations, or calls to step aside. European governments in particular have moved quickly, launching probes into Epstein's ties to human trafficking, Russian intelligence, and elite institutions — while U.S. consequences remain scarce. Elsewhere, China announced a renewed crackdown on crypto trading loopholes, reports emerged that U.S. service members were pressured to attend screenings of a Melania Trump documentary, the Trump administration allegedly threatened to freeze $16 billion in infrastructure funding unless major transit hubs were renamed after the president, and New York City lawmakers overrode a veto to strengthen labor protections for Uber and Lyft drivers. President Trump has announced the United States will run Venezuela until an orderly transition can be achieved, saying he wasn't afraid of putting boots on the ground. His comments came hours after US forces captured the Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro (and his wife) during an overnight raid in Caracas. Mr Trump said Mr Maduro would soon face narco-terrorism charges in New York, posting a picture of the Venezuelan leader blindfolded and handcuffed. Mr Trump warned the US military would remain engaged to prevent resistance, but US Democrats have condemned a prolonged American involvement. The president also pledged that US oil companies would take over and rehabilitate Venezuelan oil facilities.(Photo: Trump earlier shared a photo he said was of Maduro on board the USS Iwo Jima. The image shows him blindfolded and wearing ear defenders)
US launches strikes on Venezuela, captures its president, Nicolas Maduro, and takes him to New York. President Trump says he'll face "the full might of American justice" for alleged drug-trafficking offences. Venezuela condemns the attack but the opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, says the country's "hour of freedom" has arrived. But Mr Trump has dismissed the idea of her leading Venezuela.
