About the Herb Man: Blaine Andrusek grew up in north central Saskatchewan where he spent a good deal of time in his beloved Boreal forest. By the age of 14, Blaine was regularly hunting and trapping and had a keen interest in native traditions and all that the forest had to offer. At 18, Blaine ran off with a few provisions and adequate gear to survive minus 27 and five feet of snow and ended up spending nearly four months living mostly off the land. Although he didn't understand the concept of ‘totems' at that time, Blaine had many experiences with Owl, who told him that his mission, this time, was to never stop learning and to teach. When Blaine returned to Calgary a few years later, he met Terry Willard, who had just started his practice and founded the Wild Rose College of Natural Healing. Blaine was one of the earliest graduates of the Master Herbalist program, and by the Spring of 1981 began teaching. Although mostly a hobby interest at first, ten years later, Blaine gave up other interests in favour of becoming a full-time teacher, public speaker, and practitioner. A focus on essential oils captured his interest, and Blaine was soon formulating and supplying fellow herbalists, aestheticians, and massage therapists from coast to coast, and speaking to eight to ten audiences a week. From children's summer camps to Elder Hostel, numerous massage schools, television work, and eventually keynoting national and international conferences, Blaine has had an extremely diverse and rewarding career and has been honoured as an herbal Elder. He is the creator of and namesake behind Blaine Andrusek Phytotherapeutics, a line of high-quality essential oils. As well as the author of the forthcoming autobiography: Child of the Boreal: the Story of a Young Man.

We have a right to health! We should always have the choice to curate our own healthcare regime using herbs, supplements, and other natural health products as we see fit. We are more than capable of this and there was never a problem here to begin with. Bill C-47 is now on our doorstep creeping ever closer to being pushed into full effect. This MUST be the line in the sand. Not only is it unethical to impose these restrictions, but it is also very reckless and dangerous! Many people are alive today because of Natural Health Products. Their quality of life and access to those products depend on them. If this bill moves forward along with whatever else Health Canada has in its plans, the natural health community as we know it will be gone. In conversation with Herbal Elder Blaine 'the Herb Man' Andrusek. In this episode we covered a wide range of topics including Lobelia, Tobacco, Overcoming addiction particulate to smoking, the circulatory system and how it works, including foods and herbs that could help. We delved into Indigenous connections, Iridology and so much more. Oh yes - we talked about Clary Sage, its properties, and the origin of the name as it relates to one of its main uses. This was chat number 21 in the Wild Wisdom & Storytelling series of interviews with Blaine Andrusek by Malcolm Saunders of Light Cellar. What would you like to hear Blaine share his perspective on? Get in touch by email, info@lightcellar.ca. Let us know what you thought of this episode, and stay tuned and subscribe to this podcast for more.

Did you do your homework? This is Part 2 of my interview with Malcolm Saunders and I hope you are as pumped as I am to finish this one. Picking up right where we left off continuing with how Malcolm has been looking at food and everything that comes along with that. Then we touch briefly on some of the other topics that I enjoy talking to Malcolm with and hearing how he got to his beliefs and views. A little mushroom talk. How are mushrooms helping to heal you? How do you help your kids get the nutrition they need? And yes some covid chat. Malcolm has pretty active in sharing his voice, research, and views for himself and his business. Helping customers find natural healthy foods, herbs and supplements, to help your body be able to thrive. You may not agree with all that he says about the subject, let's face it that is a big split on much of this. However like I say in the show I feel that Malcolm is saying these things with love in his heart. And of course you are welcome to your own option on the subject. For over a year now the world has been in constant fear of something so benign that it has a survival rate of over 99.7%. How is that even possible? Because fear is all the media talks about. On today's episode we take that fear and turn it upside down. We have nothing to fear, even those people that are instilling the fear. We are strong. As human beings we are capable. But that is not enough we also need to be able to chose for ourselves, and to choose we need at least two views of a situation. Well we haven't been given a second view unless we looked real hard for it. That is why this episode is so important, it is a second view of what is going on in the world. Listen and then make your decision on how you will continue but at least you get to make the choice of how you will proceed knowing both sides. Freedom is of the utmost importance. Without options there is no freedom. To be able to choose how we will take care of our bodies is fundamental. Probably the most important aspect of health. Without the choice there is no freedom. On today's episode I chat with @themalchemist about a second opinion of what has been going on over the last year. Enjoy and share this is so important!! Malcolm from the Light Cellar! Yup that's right we get to hear from this amazing human. If you are yet to hear of my guest this week from Light Cellar please come along this ride with me. First time meeting Malcolm personally or even going to the store. I was so pleased right from pulling up! All of the staff was super nice and you could see the passions on their faces, for their job and helping others. Defiantly my kinda place and now I can't wait to get back! The love and education that spills out of this soul is not found often these days. Listen to how one persons relationship with food, turned into a life of passion for his family and community. Learn so many new things about food and a healthy lifestyle that you maybe didn't know or could use a refresher on. When someone spends so much of their life dedicated to a healthier life, you can tell Malcolm is swimming in information and research. Such a unique and beautiful way to look at food and the food industry. I truly admire all of the love that Malcolm has for his community. Trying to work together for the greater goof for our planet and everything within it. But what do you think? Is he on to things or just another Hippie? I'm sure there are many people on both sides of that question. I enjoy that either way you are leaning to Malcolm is such a great leader in my mind because he gets people thinking. Gets people in the mood to learn more about anything just simply to learn more. A nocturne is a piece of music that's inspired by, or which evokes, the night. It's also the name of a podcast I've been enjoying recently. Nocturne is made by the independent American audio producer Vanessa Lowe, who's intrigued by how people and places change as day turns into night. We play excerpts from a couple of her recent stories. 'Blackfish' is all about a Cornish fisherman called Malcolm Saunders who does some of his best work at night, fishing off the coast of the south west of England. Meanwhile, if you've ever stayed somewhere without power, or just turned off the lights at night so you can light a few candles and enjoy the way it makes the room look different, then you might appreciate 'Candle Hour'. It's the story of writer and journalist Julia Scott who was finding that technology use and 24/7 access to often negative news stories wasn't the best preparation for bed. So she thought back to the power cuts and snow storms in her childhood in Canada decades before, and started a relaxing ritual before bed.

Malcolm Saunders is a fisherman in Cornwall, on the southern tip of the UK. While most of the old fishing ports have transformed into tourist attractions, there are still some working fishing boats, manned by seasoned weathered fisherman. They're holding onto to an almost forgotten way of life – one that ties their livelihood to nature, with all of the thrill and hardship that goes along with it. Their lives are governed by tides, and weather, and time - A fisherman goes out where and when the fish are, day or night. There's nothing else to it.
