In this episode of 'Extraordinary Living with Bill and Roger,' the focus is on finding peace and guidance through obedience to God, even in troubled times. The topic is introduced through a review of Judges chapter 6 from both the NIV and New King James versions of the Bible. Roger shares a deeply moving message about the importance of crying out to the Lord when you are desperate and trusting that He will answer, regardless of past mistakes. He underscores that getting off track is inevitable, but staying there is not necessary. Roger encourages you to recognize your identity as children of God and stresses the importance of obedience, even when it requires courage. Through personal stories, including his experiences raising children on a farm, Roger illustrates the significance of being both willing and obedient to God's call. Practical steps are explained, such as tearing down idols, confronting the problems, and realigning with God's plan. Finally, the episode ends with an invitation to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:   00:00 Introduction: Crying Out to the Lord 00:23 Welcome to Extraordinary Living 00:43 Laying the Foundation: Judges Chapter 6 01:16 Recognizing When We Got Off Track 03:20 Desperation and Crying Out to God 04:07 God's Response and Obedience 07:14 Knowing Who You Are in Christ 14:36 The Importance of Obedience 21:08 Confronting the Problem with Courage 22:51 Receiving God's Plan and Anointing 26:42 Invitation to Accept Jesus     Connect with Bill & Roger Ministries: www.billandroger.com Email: roger@billandroger.com

Send us a textFor this week's podcast episode, we're continuing our series through the letters written to the seven churches at the beginning of the book of Revelation. The letter to the third church was located in an Ancient Greek city called Pergamos (Revelation 2:12-17). The New King James translation refers to this church as "The Compromising Church" and you'll see as we discuss through the text that there were valid reasons for this title. Jesus warns the church as some members were adhering to the teachings of Balaam and the Nicolaitans, which involve idolatry and immorality. The letter urges them to repent and promises rewards to those who overcome these issues, including the gift of hidden manna and a white stone with a new name!We also would like to invite anyone who lives in the Philadelphia area to worship and study God's word with us at our in-person meeting that takes place every-other Monday night at 7:30pm. In this podcast episode, host Dave Wager and guest Jeremy Lundgren explore the art and importance of studying the scriptures. They begin by reflecting on Malachi 3:1, discussing how a simple English reading of the Bible can be both accessible and profound. They emphasize that while many can understand the Bible at a basic level, deeper insights come from engaging with the text, reflecting on its context, and exploring various translations. The conversation delves into the differences between Bible translations and paraphrases. Dave shares his experiences with different versions—from the New King James to the ESV and NIV—illustrating that each translation offers unique nuances. Jeremy explains how understanding the original languages and using study tools like Bible handbooks and concordances can help uncover richer meanings, such as the layered interpretation of the word "prepare" in scripture. Ultimately, both speakers encourage listeners to read the Bible regularly and thoughtfully, regardless of the translation they choose. They highlight that the goal of Bible study isn't just academic understanding, but forming a personal connection with God's word—a connection that transforms lives, sharpens our spiritual discernment, and equips us to face life's challenges with faith. Ecclesiastes 12:11-14 The words of the wise are like cattle prods—painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep. But, my child, let me give you some further advice: Be careful, for writing books is endless, and much study wears you out. 2 Timothy 2:15-16 Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior. Send us a textI remember when I first made Jesus the Lord of my life, I was on fire for God. Nobody was going to stop me from going all in. However, I had a problem. I didn't know what it looked like to actually go all in with God. Nobody showed me how to practically live out the transformation God had performed in my life as a 17 year old.  I would see other teens my age who were Christians, but most if not all of them were lacking that spark…that fire for the Lord. I even tried going to a youth ministry my senior year of high school, but it almost seemed like a joke. I couldn't quite understand why it seemed like these Christians didn't even care. The youth pastor would start to teach on a topic, but the message would be overrun by teens making a joke out of it….the youth pastor did nothing but play along. Needless to say, I didn't go back to that youth ministry often.  I didn't quite understand how I was supposed to practically walk out my Christian life when I didn't even see other Christian teens walking it out. Was I supposed to just pretend this life change with Jesus didn't happen…because it did and it was very real.  So, how do we put God first in our life. Practically, what does that look like?  1.   Put God first in your day. Create the first bit of the morning to spend with God. If you have been struggling with reading the Bible every day, with spending time in prayer every day, with taking time to worship every day, I encourage you to do the First 15. What does 5 minutes in the Bible look like? I encourage you to start in the book of John. In most versions of the Bible, you will notice that the chapters are split up into sections. For example, with the New King James version of the Bible, John 1 is split up into seven sections. The first section's title is called, “The Eternal Word" and it's 5 verses long. Read through the whole section one time through, go back through it a second time and right down or underline anything that stands out to you. Then ask God, “Lord, what do you want me to know about this passage? What do you want me to do?” Write it down and take action.  Next is 5 minutes in prayer. Take time to talk to God, just like you would your best friend, about what's coming up that day. Ask Him for wisdom to get through whatever it is you have going on. He so loves you and cares about even the smallest of details.  Then the last 5 minutes is spent in worship. Worship is a response to God's goodness. Take 5 minutes and thank God for the good things He's doing in your life.  2.    Write out the key areas of your life and ask God, “Lord, will you show me how to put you first in every area of my life. Send me a Text Message! In the last few episodes, we've come back more than once to the importance of prayer, right? It's fascinating to me that the two people most entrusted with God's revelations about the end of time, the time of the end were both people of prayer; proven, persevering, you might even say gritty people of prayer. So as we come to the last chapter, the conclusion of God's vision given to Daniel about the time of the end…I want to pray a prayer for you, for us. It's a prayer based on the themes of the last 30+ episodes of Daniel. One of the verses that we did not actually look at that much, provides a bit of a refrain in my prayer. It's the last part of Daniel 11:32, I like how they put it in the New King James version. "But the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. So the refrain of my prayer for you is this, "When people know their God, they do great things." That's my prayer for you!

Zephaniah 3:17 CEB My daughter, Dana, was in college when she experienced her first real heartache from a relationship breakup. I had just finished speaking for a retreat out of state when I received her phone call from my hotel room. How it hurt my heart to hear her cry and to be so far away from her and unable to hug her or wipe away her tears. Dana knew God was good and that He was close, but still her heart was broken. I prayed with her on the phone and then continued to pray for her throughout the night, waking every few hours and calling on the Lord to comfort her with His presence.  A couple nights later, after I was back home, she texted me from her college dorm room. She couldn't sleep. Her heart was still hurting. In that moment, I remembered how music resonated with her like nothing else. Music had always been a huge part of her life and, at the time, she was studying to be a vocal performer. Music was often how she processed her thoughts. We all sense God's presence in different ways. Perhaps she needed His songs. I texted her a few verses and told her to listen for her Heavenly Father singing over her.  Zephaniah 3:17 gives us a beautiful description in the Old Testament of how our warrior God, who fights for our hearts, will also tenderly comfort us in our time of need. The New English Translation reads: “The Lord your God is in your midst; he is a warrior who can deliver. He takes great delight in you; he renews you by his love; he shouts for joy over you.” The New King James version translates those “shouts for joy” (which sound like a battle triumph) as a sweet love song of God's for His beloved: “He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” “God sings over you, Dana,” I texted. “Listen for His songs.” God not only sings over us, He puts songs in our hearts to deliver us. In Psalm 32:7 (NKJV) David sang, “You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.”  In the Contemporary English Version, that verse reads: “You are my hiding place! You protect me from trouble, and you put songs in my heart because you have saved me.”  In Job 35:10, we read God is the one who “provides us with songs in the night” (HCSB). Finally, I texted to my daughter Psalm 119:54: “No matter where I am, your teachings fill me with songs” (CEV) and Psalm 42:8: “The Lord will send His goodness in the daytime; And His song will be with me in the night.”  Dana texted back: “I like the verses about Him giving us songs.” And with His music close to her heart, she was able to sleep. Intersecting Faith and Life:  God sings over you too. He knows your broken heart, your disappointments, your feelings of loneliness when they strike. He is closer than a whisper on the nights you can't sleep, on those days that drag on forever, and in the quiet when you feel forgotten and alone.  When the songwriter Asaph was going through a lonely time of feeling abandoned by God, he wrote this in Psalm 77:6 as the beginning of his mental process to convince himself God was still with him: “I remembered my songs in the night” (NIV).  Get quiet, my friend. Hush the questions going through your mind and listen. Listen for His song in the night, and His whisper of love through the breeze in the day. My prayer is that you will soon be declaring as the psalmist did: “You have helped me, and I sing happy songs in the shadow of your wings” (Psalm 63:7 CEV). Lord, thank You for the gift of music that can comfort our souls. And thank You, too, for putting songs in our hearts—songs of comfort and songs of joy. On those days and nights when we need Your comforting presence, help us to sense You singing over us. And when those we love need Your songs, may You sing them clearly in their ears as well.   For Further Reading: Psalm 77 For more on God's comfort and care, see Cindi's devotional book, God's Whispers to a Woman's Heart.  Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

The Crisis in Eschatology: Understanding the End of the Age   As we continue now with our study of the crisis in eschatology, the point I want to look at in this session is this question: When Jesus spoke about His coming at the end of the age, did He mean by that phrase the 'end of the age'? The end of world history, or was He talking more specifically about the end of the Jewish age? That's one of the critical points that are in dispute here with respect to timeframe references of New Testament eschatology.   I'd like to read a portion of the text of Matthew for you from the New King James Bible, or the New King James translation, where we read in chapter 13, verse 38, Jesus' interpretation of the parable of the tares. He says, and I quote:

Psalm 58 Psalm 58 is another Trouble and Trust Psalm within the series of 8 complaint Psalms from 52-59. Psalm 58 has some of the most difficult Hebrew to understand in the Psalter, both in how specific words should be translated and the understanding of certain phrases. Vivid description of what the wicked are like V. 1-5 The first hard to translate word is in verse 1, translated by the New King James as “silent ones.” It is the Hebrew word elem, and is only found here! In cases like this, we have to be humble as to the meaning of the word, and make sure we make much of how the words around it and the context help us understand what is meant. Instead of living by God's truth about what is right, the wicked people David is referring to think that they are right because they have gotten away with what they have done, and nobody has stopped them. They embraced pragmatism, “the end justifies the means” and did not reallt believe God would hold them to account one day. Psalm 58 has elements of chiastic structure in it. Chiastic structure has parallel words and/or thoughts at the beginning and end, and the verses unfold with parallel thoughts with a middle thought. Notice the progression of wickedness in verse 2 – first wicked plots are made in the head, and then carried out with the hands. According to verse 2, the sinful actions people think are okay because they get away with them are actually wickedness in God's eyes! We need to judge things using His standard of right and wrong, the Holy Bible – First for ourselves, and then as we call the wicked to repentance. Verse 3 goes right along with what David taught in Psalm 51:5 – we all have a sin nature that leads to sin choices early in life. Instead of turning to God, the perpetually wicked keep living in sin. Imprecatory prayer for the destruction of the wicked V. 6-11 A toothless snake or lion can still lash out and try to bite you, but can't do you lasting damage. So David prays that God will de-fang the wicked, make them only able to ‘gum' at the saints instead of devour them! Notice David is turning vengeance over to the Lord, and not taking action himself. The Lord may lead us to fight in a just cause and defend ourselves and others, but Old Testament saints weren't just looking to take matters into their own hands. Interestingly, teeth are featured in almost all the Psalms in the Psalm 52-59 series – 52:2; 53:4; 55:21; 56:1-2; 57:4; 58:6; 59:7,12. What do you think he has in mind by the figures of speech in verse 7? What do you think he has in mind by the figures of speech in verse 7? What do you think he has in mind by the figures of speech in verse 7? Taken together, David is obviously praying for the wicked's plans to be frustrated, his resources wasted, his instruments of harm to be rendered ineffectual, his movements to be stopped in their tracks, and for their judgment to come. Verse 10 reminds us of the difference between the spiritual dispensation we are now living in compared to the age of Old Testament Israel. Israel had physical enemies that would do them harm, and it was a good thing when God gave His people victory over them, and the blood on their feet was the enemy's blood, not their own. During this age of grace, Christians pray for their enemies to find the same salvation in Christ that they have. This is also a good place to say that Baptists have always been right to reject the idea of the state and church being tied together in supposedly “Christian” countries. Christians may serve their country to stop the Adolph Hitler's of the world, and rejoice when they stop him. But we are leaving the physical defense of Christ's honor to Christ Himself for when He returns to earth, and as Revelation 20 tells us, the blood of His enemies will again flow.

Let's talk about Proverbs, Chapter 20 & 21. Wisdom Series – Leadership Traits & Prudence Proverbs Chapter 20:28, 21:23 Today our inspiration comes for the book of Provers Chapters 20 & 21.  We'll be looking at Leadership in Chapter 20, verse 28, and then Prudence in Chapter 21, verse 23. Something that can be helpful in understanding a verse is to look at different translations of the verse, or reviewing a biblical commentary or using a biblical concordance to find other verse references.  I usually use the King James, New King James, or New International versions. However, there is a new version call the Passion translation that uses language/words that are more similar to the way people typically talk today.  So, I thought I would share today's verse references in both the KJV and the Passion versions. So, let's dive right in! Chapter 20, Verse 28 –   “Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by many.” KJV “Good leadership is built on love and truth, for kindness and integrity are what keep leaders in their position of trust.” – Passion Translation.” This verse speaks to important trait of good leadership.  Leadership takes care of others and seeks todo t he right thing consistently. When we lead with love and truth, the engagement of others to follow and to perform comes deeper from within than from a threat of external failure.  It is important for leaders to have the trust of their employees. Chapter 21, Verse 23–   "Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.” KJV “Watch your words and be careful what you say, and you will be surprised how few troubles you have.” – Passion Translation This verse was one that spoke to the importance of exercising prudence in our communications.  Our tongue can get us into trouble so it's important to keep it in check.  The issue is sometimes around what keeping things in check looks like.  Sometimes things can be said with no harm intended and it can lead to information being shared that had no need to be shared and that gets into the wrong hands. Proceeding with behavior that proves us to be trustworthy and a person of integrity is important to form good relationships. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 31st of December, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. I want to speak to you about a defining moment in your life and defining moments in the world. John 3:16 spells it out clearly, and I want you to read it to you out of the New King James version:"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."A defining moment in the universe's history - when God came down from Heaven to live with us on Earth, in the form of the Lord Jesus Christ. What a defining moment. We are now facing the end of 2023 and are about to embark on the exciting thought of 2024. You have to make some defining decisions in your life. The dictionary says, "Certain or sure about something." Have you made a defining decision in your life? Have you decided to change your ways to walk in the power, love and discretion of Jesus Christ? He will give you a completely new outlook on life. He's done it for me and will do it for you. Let us leave all the baggage, pain and all the disappointments of 2023 behind us. Let us make a brand new start; let's clean the board and start 2024 with Jesus Christ in full control of our lives. Then you will see some exciting developments in your life. Father, I pray for my friends as they face a new year, some with fear and uncertainty, others with excitement. Some do not know what to expect, but one thing we do know is that the Lord Jesus Christ is going before us. We ask this in Jesus' Name, amen. I want to wish you a very, very special 2024! God bless you and goodbye.

Dumnezeu i-a apărat.

Anchored by Truth from Crystal Sea Books - a 30 minute show exploring the grand Biblical saga of creation, fall, and redempti

Episode 207 – Ten Commandments – Part 3 – Visual Idolatry Welcome to Anchored by Truth brought to you by Crystal Sea Books. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” The goal of Anchored by Truth is to encourage everyone to grow in the Christian faith by anchoring themselves to the secure truth found in the inspired, inerrant, and infallible word of God. Script: You shall not make … any image or any form that is in Heaven from above or what is in the earth … or what is in the water beneath the Earth: You shall not bow to them and you shall not serve them because I AM LORD JEHOVAH your God, a jealous God … Exodus, Chapter 20, verse 4, Aramaic Bible in Plain English ******** VK: Hello! I’m Victoria K. Welcome to Anchored by Truth brought to you by Crystal Sea Books. We’re glad that you are able to be with us today. Today on Anchored by Truth we’re continuing our series on the Ten Commandments. In the studio we have RD Fierro who is an author and the founder of Crystal Sea Books. RD, you wanted to undertake this study of the Ten Commandment because you think that people either take the Ten Commandments for granted or dismiss them entirely. What do you mean by that? RD: The Ten Commandments are clearly one part of the Bible with which even non-Christians have some familiarity. The Ten Commandments are clearly one of the most recognizable parts of the Christian faith. But as Shakespeare warned us “familiarity breeds contempt.” By that Shakespeare meant that when things are excessively familiar with them we can lose our appreciation or respect for them. And I think that’s the temptation that confronts many Christians with respect to the commandments. We hear about them so much – and many of them make so much common sense – that I think we start to miss the amazing revelation they contain. Conversely, unbelievers hear the first commandment about not worshipping any other god but the True God and they then dismiss the commandments are just being so much “religious nonsense.” But what happens with either view is that we want up not paying much attention to the commandments. Either the familiarity or the disdain winds up diminishing the commandments importance in our lives. But if we will just stop and take a few minutes to look at the commandments, what they say, why they were necessary to the Exodus generation, and what they still mean today we see a truly amazing body of expressed wisdom. VK: And of course increasing our own wisdom is one of the principle reasons we need to become familiar with the Bible. We are certainly not discouraging familiarity with the Ten Commandments or any other part of the Bible. But what we are saying is we shouldn’t let our familiarity tempt us to look past the value that is in the commandments. As we’ve noted before on Anchored by Truth when you first hang a new poster or picture on your wall you see it every time you go into the room. But after weeks, months, and years go by you scarcely notice it. Probably the only time you really pay attention to it is when someone new comes to visit and tells you how nice the picture is. You see the picture then but you haven’t for weeks or months before that because it was just a part of the background. RD: And that’s what we want to do with this series on the Ten Commandments. We want people to notice them again and maybe for the first time realize that the Ten Commandments contain evidence of the necessity for them and evidence that they were legitimate pronouncements by an almighty God to a people who were travelling to a new homeland after a 400 year sojourn in a foreign land – with the last several decades having been in slavery. And the 2nd commandment is a great example of those two observations. VK: The 2nd commandment is found in Exodus, chapter 20, verses 4 and 5. We heard these verses in our opening scripture today from the version of the Bible called the Aramaic Bible in Plain English. Here are those same verses from the New International Version. “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. “You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.” So, what is the first thing that you want us to notice? RD: Well, first let’s note that the 2nd commandment and the 1st commandment are complimentary. The 1st commandment, “you shall have no other gods before me” establishes the bedrock principle that there is one and only One True God – the God of the Bible. The 2nd commandment begins the series of instructions that tells us how we are to incorporate that principle into our daily lives. And it is founded on a simple, plain, and practical observation about human beings. VK: Which is ... RD: That human beings are visual creatures. We have 5 senses – sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing. But unless someone loses their sight the vast majority of people learn the most about the world around them through their sight. Or said, slightly differently – and a little ominously – our eyes can get us into more trouble than our other 4 senses put together. VK: Well, that thought deserves a big “amen.” And the Bible even points that out. In the New King James version Proverbs, chapter 27, verse 20 says “Hell and Destruction are never full; So the eyes of man are never satisfied.” It’s pretty significant that the same verse that tells us that the eyes of man are never satisfied is packaged with the observation that Hell is never full. RD: Yes. We take in a lot of information through our vision, through our eyes. So, it makes perfect sense that when God began telling people how to avoid violating the 1st commandment He gave a command that had a strong visual component. God prohibited His people making any representation of Him for a wide variety of reasons but certainly one of the most important was because it is so easy for people to get misled by things they see. The widespread scourge of internet pornography is graphic evidence that an appeal to the eyes is the source of a lot of mischief. And one form of mischief that has plagued mankind for thousands of years has been rampant idolatry. Let’s remember that God gave the Ten Commandments to His people during the period of the Exodus when they were just emerging from living in a culture that worshipped, by some counts, over 2,000 different gods. Egypt was awash in gods and goddesses and certainly the Hebrews were well familiar with that religious system and with how those gods and goddesses were represented. VK: Pretty much anyone who has ever watched a movie or TV program about ancient Egypt knows that the Egyptian pantheon of gods was represented visually. And these representations were not just limited to temples or religious settings. The Egyptians put pictures of their gods and goddesses in all kinds of settings and buildings and even in hieroglyphs. And they know that one of the most common motifs for representing their gods was with figures that had the body of a human but the head of an animal. RD: Quite right. Horus was a falcon-headed man. Sekhmet was lioness-headed woman. Anubis was a jackal and Hathor was a cow. But sometimes the Egyptians just used human figures to represent a god. Amun-Re, the sun god and king of the gods, was quite often just represented by a male figure. But the use of images as part of pagan worship was by no means limited to the Egyptians. Most of the pagan religious practices of the other nations around the Israelites used iconography as part of worship. Iconography just means making an image or totem for use in worship. Often the images or totems were human type figures but the use of animal images was quite common. The Babylonian god Dagon was a fish-god and Heqet, an Egyptian fertility goddess, was represented as a frog. VK: So, when God prohibited the Israelites from making images He was prohibiting a practice that was commonplace in Egypt, Canaan, and the vast majority of the Middle East. Making and using visual idols is far less common today, though it is not unknown. Even in our day and age Satanic figures are often represented as human figures but with the head and horns of a goat and often with eagle-type wings. But, still, today we don’t see nearly as many god-type idol images as the ancient Israelites would have. RD: Correct. So, today we might almost think that the 2nd commandment is unnecessary but it certainly is not. Because one of the other functions of the 2nd commandment is to remind us that God must not be represented by any image because God cannot be represented by an image, statue, or anything tangible or visual. It would be impossible for any human being to create an image of God because no human being ever has or ever will see God – at least until after Christ returns and we have a new heavens and earth as described in Revelation, chapters 21 and 22. VK: The first reason human beings cannot make a representation of God is covered by 1 Timothy, chapter 6, verse 15. The New International Version of that verse says, “the King of kings and Lord of lords, … is immortal and … lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see.” So, Paul tells us that no one has ever seen God or can see God. This is particularly significant coming from Paul who at one point in his life had been “caught up to the third heaven.” We learn that from 2 Corinthians, chapter 12, verse 2. A common interpretation of the term “third heaven” is that the first heaven is the sky where birds fly, the second heaven is what we call “outer space” where the stars and stellar bodies exist, and the third heaven is the heaven which contains the throne of God. So, if Paul, who had been transported either by vision or physically, to the third heaven said no one can see God Paul would know what he was talking about. RD: Furthermore, we know from John 4:24 that God is “spirit.” The New Living Translation put it this way. “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” So, we add to the fact that anytime we might want to create an image or a sculpture we would have to have some kind of a physical image to work from. In God’s case there is nothing physical to work from to begin with. God is spirit. Now, a word of caution here. We sometimes use the word spirit like we use the word “ghost.” And we think of ghosts or spirits as being sort-of wispy, flimsy bits of semi-transparent puffs of smoke. To us ghosts or spirits are insubstantial. So, when we hear that God is spirit we can somehow get the impression that God is like a hologram that you might see but you could put your hand through. Nothing could be further from the truth. VK: We think of the universe we can see and touch and our world as being solid. In actuality most atoms are small bits of matter separated by a lot of space. But to us our world is “real.” And we think of the spirit realm as somehow being unreal. But Hebrews, chapter 11, verse 3 reminds us that “we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.” That’s from the New Living Translation. Or at you put in your book, Doors of Destiny, “the unseen created the seen and someday will lay claim to its own.” While the words become difficult the truth is that God and the angelic realm is more “real” than our physical realm. The point is we must guard against the temptation to think of God, who is spirit, as somehow being less substantial than our tangible world. God is immeasurably more substantial than anything that exists in our universe. RD: So those are two simple reasons why human beings are incapable of creating any kind of a representation of God. No one has ever seen or will see God and we have no way of portraying a spirit meaningfully. The Hollywood versions of ghosts and spirits may be fine for movies but they would be entirely inaccurate and disrespectful when it comes to God. The 2nd commandment was given to us in part to guard us from treating God lightly or disrespectfully by trying to employ our imaginations in creating some image of Him. The 2nd commandment reinforces our awareness of the spiritual nature of God by steering us completely away from doing something it would be impossible to do in the first place. But there is another one of God’s attributes also shows that the 2nd commandment makes perfect sense. VK: I already know what you are going to say. One of God’s most fundamental, and obvious, attributes is that God is infinite. 1 Kings, chapter 8, verse 27 puts it this way. “The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you.” That verse comes from the dedication speech that Solomon gave at the dedication of the temple he built in Jerusalem. Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, felt compelled to acknowledge God’s infinitude even as they had just built a magnificent building to honor God’s majesty. RD: Yes. God is infinite. That’s a way of describing God by saying what He is not. God is not finite. But if you tried to make an image whether by drawing, sculpting, or any other way the first thing that you must decide is where to start. And the moment you drew your first line or chose a block of marble you’re automatically working with a limit. But doesn’t have any limits other than those that come from His own righteous character and those have nothing to do with anything physical. As human beings our minds can’t really even conceive of the infinite. We are finite and we can’t escape or finitude. So, to keep us from making any sinful attempts to drift into sinful ways of thinking God just said, “Don’t. Don’t try to make an image of me. It’s impossible to begin with and any attempts you might make would only demean my majesty.” VK: And God also wanted to prevent another temptation which was common in the ancient world which was to assign a form of divinity to an object or creature. Many of the ancient cultures worshipped stellar objects such as the sun or moon. Among the Canaanites Shemesh was the sun god and Yareah was the moon god. Baal was the storm god and Yam was the sea god. And we have already talked about the fact that some cultures used living creatures as representations of their gods or goddesses. But, again, doing anything like this would make all of the same errors that we have already discussed. RD: Yes. In man’s limited mind you can see how someone might envision the sun, which is an impressive and life giving body, as somehow being divine. And that’s how some ancient peoples viewed it. But in the Bible the sun is just another created object fully subject to God. God certainly didn’t need the sun for His creation. He created both light and life before He made the sun the source of light to illuminate earth. In many pagan mythologies the sun was the master but in the Bible the sun is always just another one of God’s servants. The 2nd commandment helped the Hebrews coming out of a pagan culture with hundreds of gods to not bring their pagan errors with them. That’s one of the reasons God gave the Israelites the commandments at the start of their journey to the Promised Land. He wanted them to begin the new stage of their national development on the right foot. VK: The Ten Commandments are initially contained in chapter 20 of Exodus which is the 2nd book of the Bible. Then, they are repeated almost identically in chapter 5 of Deuteronomy which is the 5th book of the Bible. The Bible has 66 books so both the giving of the commandments and their reinforcement are fairly early in the revelation of scripture. And it is interesting to note that throughout the rest of scripture you never see the 2nd commandment violated. We have several descriptions of incidents where men were given visions that included some sort of divine encounter or even a divine figure on a throne. But there is never any attempt in any of those inspired reports any attempts to describe the Being on the throne. As Paul said the most we ever get is some kind of an image of a person that is obscured by transcendent light. RD: Yes. We have descriptions of what you might call the throne of God in Isaiah, chapter 6, Ezekiel chapters 1 and 10, Daniel chapter 7, and Revelation chapter 4. But in none of the descriptions of those encounters is there ever the least attempt by the inspired writer to describe the person they see in their vision. VK: Daniel, chapter 7, verses 9 and 10 are good illustration of what we’re talking about. “I watched as thrones were put in place and the Ancient One sat down to judge. His clothing was as white as snow, his hair like purest wool. He sat on a fiery throne with wheels of blazing fire, and a river of fire was pouring out, flowing from his presence. Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him. Then the court began its session, and the books were opened.” That’s from the New Living Translation. And you followed that pattern when you wrote your throne room scene for your allegorical adventure book The Prodigal’s Advocate. Here is what you wrote. “There was a royal figure on the throne. At least that’s how I thought of what I saw. Of the royalty I had no doubt; but to call the One I saw a figure is another injustice. The Person I beheld was so infinitely glorious that He overwhelmed my mind merely by His presence. I suppose you might say He appeared in some ways to be in the center of a cloud of radiant white light; but that would be like comparing a candle flame to the sun.” RD: Yes. It wouldn’t just be wrong to try to describe God in His essence, it would be blasphemous. That was something I definitely wasn’t going to do. But God has obviously felt that was important as He unfolded His revelation through scripture to give human beings enough of a glimpse of His majesty and glory to let us know that there was an awfully good reason to put the 2nd commandment in place to begin with. And it’s interesting to note that even when the 2nd Person of the Trinity took on a human nature and body, which obviously could be seen, that there are still no descriptions of that body in scripture. We have 4 gospels about the life of Jesus and others like Stephen and the Apostle Paul saw the risen Christ but not a single writer or reporter ever attempted to describe what Jesus looked like. VK: That’s something we don’t think about. In just about every book you ever read the first thing the author does is tell us what the hero or heroine, or villain for that matter, looks like. We’re always told whether they are tall or short, blonde or brunette, skinny or fat, or whatever. But no Bible writer throughout the gospels or New Testament ever tried to tell us anything about the appearance of Jesus. RD: And I think that takes us back to the fact that human beings are easily tempted by sight and image. If the Bible told us how Jesus looked I have no doubt that throughout church history some people would have tried to adjust their appearance to try to look more like him. If Jesus had been tall and we knew that, tall people would feel better about themselves. If we knew he had a particular color eyes, we would have been fascinated by that. Our eyes and imaginations get us into lots of trouble. God knows that. So, right after He told the Hebrews not to worship anyone or anything other than Him, he began telling them how to guard their hearts. Don’t try to create any images of me. VK: This, of course, does not mean, as some have asserted, that God is opposed to art or visual beauty. God commanded that some images such as cherubim and certain kinds of fruits be used as part of the decorations in the temple itself. Some people have taken the 2nd commandment to such an extreme that they try to condemn all art. But God wasn’t telling us not to create images of created things or angelic beings. He told us not to worship those images and not to imagine that somehow that His spirit or nature would ever be part of any created thing. God was guarding the nature of our worship to prevent us from drifting into idolatry and sin. And as we discussed last week God gave us the 1st commandment to prevent us from worshipping lesser things or beings. Because if we worship the lesser we will only injure ourselves. RD: Absolutely. God has made it plain that we to come boldly before His throne, the throne of grace. That’s Hebrews 4:16. Why, if are invited to enter the grandest throne room of all, the grandest throne room possible, would we ever want to settle for anything less. God is the only source of power anywhere and He wants to be available to us. That doesn’t mean that God gives His children anything and everything they ask for. That would be silly and dangerous. We often ask for things that aren’t good for us. God is not a heavenly vending machine. VK: A heavenly vending machine, really? RD: Well, that’s how we want to treat Him sometimes. At any rate, God wants what’s best for us and that’s the thrust of the 1st, 2nd, and all the commandments. God is trying to get us to start thinking correctly about Him and how we are to relate to Him because if we do that our lives will be built on an unshakeable foundation. But to think correctly about God, and to correctly relate to God, we must obey God and that starts with only worshipping Him in truth as well as spirit. If we follow the commandments faithfully that will happen automatically. VK: God gave us the 1st commandment to remind us of some very important truths. God is the Creator. He made everything that we see and He upholds it through His own power. Because He made everyone and everything He is the righteous sovereign and we must guard against giving praise or glory to any imitators or lesser things. God gave us the 2nd commandment to ensure that we don’t succumb to the temptation that is so common to people by letting our eyes and imaginations lead us astray. This sounds like a great time to go to God in prayer. Today let’s listen to a prayer for the renewal of the church so the church may once again be the light of truth to a world desperate in its darkness. People are hungry for the truth and God’s people possess the truth but we must be steadfast enough to share it during trying times like these. ---- PRAYER FOR RENEWAL OF THE CHURCH VK: We’d like to remind our audience that a lot of our radio episodes are linked together in series of topics so if they missed any episodes or if they just want to hear one again, all of these episodes are available on your favorite podcast app. To find them just search on “Anchored by Truth by Crystal Sea Books.” If you’d like to hear more, try out crystalseabooks.com where “We’re not perfect but our Boss is!” (Opening Bible Quote from the Aramaic Bible in Plain English) Exodus, Chapter 20, verse 2, Aramaic Bible in Plain English Evidence for the Bible (creation.com)

Have you ever experienced this overwhelming sense of… well, overwhelm When it literally paralyzes you to where you feel like you can't move forward at all? I know I have and I know it is a terrible feeling. That being said, I have a prayer for you when you are experiencing overwhelm or anxiety in addition to some Scripture that you can proclaim out loud when you are feeling this way. Because overwhelm, yes, is a feeling you are experiencing... but there could also be some spiritual warfare at play as well.  That being said, it's so important to use Scripture to biblically fight these battles, because Scripture is alive and active. Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." That being said, using Scripture is going to help you in so many ways. Spiritually. Mentally, Physically. Emotionally. Are you ready for this? Prayer was such an important part of Jesus' lifestyle that He would break away from the crowds that followed Him to go and pray to His Father (Matthew 14:23). Often He would go alone up on a mountain or into a secluded place.  One day the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. What Jesus taught them is known as the Lord's prayer and it is an example of how we can pray as well. The original King James Version uses old English that we don't use today. However, many of us may have memorized it when we were children. The following is from the New King James version. “Our Father in heaven,Hallowed  be Your name.(holy and praise be to Your name )Your kingdom come.Your will be doneOn earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts,As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation,But deliver us from the evil one (or evil). For Yours is the kingdom and thepower, and the glory forever.  Amen.”   This prayer was given to the disciples before Jesus went to the cross. After Jesus died, rose from the dead, and went up to heaven,  the old covenant of law (Old Testament/agreement) was fulfilled. Jesus brought the new covenant (New Testament)  of grace and truth through faith  which  was paid by His shed blood. Should we pray this prayer today or use it as an example of how to pray? We can use this example for prayer, but keep in mind that this was directed to the Jewish people during Jesus' time as they were transitioning from the Old Testament to the New Testament. Jesus was the fulfillment of the Old Testament because He came to be the perfect sacrifice that would pay for our sins once and for all if we accept Him into our hearts and make Him our Lord and Savior. As we start with the prayer, we should give praise and honor to God our Father. As we continue in prayer we can pray for spiritual and physical needs. Today, as a Christian, the kingdom of God is within us because Jesus our king reigns in our hearts. We ask for His will to be done in our lives. We can also ask for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Is it God's will to heal, to forgive, to save? Yes, so let's pray for others as well.Jesus is our daily bread and as we read, hear, and  study the Word we are able to feed our spirit being and grow in faith. We can also pray for our physical needs to be met. Thank God we have our debts  or sins forgiven because of Jesus. When we ask Him to forgive us of our sins and we receive Him by faith, we are forgiven. As we have been forgiven, we should also forgive those that have sinned against us. Does God lead us into temptation if we don't pray against it? James 1:13-15 says that God does not tempt man but man is tempted by his own desires. We are to pray that God delivers us when we are going through trials and temptations. God says that He will never allow temptations that are more than we can handle (I Cor. 10:13).Temptations can include unbelief, doubt, and fear.   Finally, glory, honor, and power are  the Lords Amen. As Christians we conclude or include the name of Jesus in our prayers (John 14:13-14) because the power is in the name of Jesus (Phil. 2:9-10).Read the rest at: https://litwithprayer.substack.com/p/jesus-always-honored-his-father?sd=pf

The Prayer of Jabez (1) // God Wants to Bless You, Part 1

Question: Does God want to bless you, yes or no? It's a very serious question because how you answer it, is probably the best indicator to tell you what you think of your God. So I'll ask you again, does God want to bless you, yes or no? NO, IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK! I remember, probably a decade or more ago, when I first read Bruce Wilkinson's book, The Prayer Of Jabez. It had a huge splash when it was first released. And I don't know how many millions of copies have sold since but it's been a huge hit. I distinctly remember though, how uncomfortable I felt reading the first chapter of that little booklet, which, I read all in one sitting in a bed when I was in New Zealand. This is the bit that really got me, Wilkinson writes: That God really does have unclaimed blessings waiting for you, my friend. I know it sounds impossible, even embarrassingly suspicious in our self-serving day, yet, that very exchange, your want for God's plenty, has been His loving will for your life from eternity past. And with a handful of core commitments on your part, you can proceed from this day forward with the confidence and expectation that your heavenly Father will bring it to pass for you. Think of it this way, instead of standing near the river's edge asking for a cup of water to get through each day, you'll do something unthinkable. You will take the little prayer with the giant prize and jump into the river. At that moment, you'll begin to let the loving currents of God's grace and power carry you along. God's great plan for you will surround you and sweep you forward into the profoundly important and satisfying life that He has waiting for you. Do you see why I was so troubled by this? On the one hand, Wilkinson was promising me the very thing that I wanted, God's abundant blessing. Do you want that? Sure you do! I want that too. Who doesn't want to be abundantly blessed by God? But on the other hand, it conjures up a fear … that perhaps the desire to have God's abundant blessing was a selfish thing to want. You and I, both, have seen the gross excesses of some who claim to be God's people and who live this extravagant lifestyle that looks nothing … NOTHING … like taking up your cross and following Jesus. I found myself in a conundrum that I think we all find ourselves in, when it comes to God's blessing. Should I ask or shouldn't I ask? Does God want to bless me abundantly; or does He not want to bless me abundantly; or at all for that matter? They're the questions we often find ourselves asking. Wilkinson hits the nail on the head, though, when he says that we live in a self-serving day, we do. And if we approach God's promises of blessing unlimited, in a self-serving way, then of course, it's not the right thing to do. To ask Him for blessings that just serve us. He's much smarter than to give us everything we want. He loves us way too much to instantly fulfil our every desire. When I was a child, even back then (over a half a century ago), the retailers in the stores figured out that the best place to put the sweets and the small toys was at my eye level, right at the checkout. They knew that I'd pressure my parents to buy me this and to buy me that. Do you remember pestering your parents to buy you these things when you were a kid, right? But no, being wise parents, being good parents and loving parents, they didn't always accede to our howls of protest as they dragged us kicking and screaming out of the store without that packet of lollies that we just had to have. And yet, I'm able to look back on all that my parents did for me, for the eighteen or so years that I spent under their roof, I tell you inequitably, that they blessed my socks off. I think most of us can look back on our upbringing and say exactly the same thing about our parents. Good loving parents don't always meet the selfish wants of their immature children. But they still bless them beyond measure because that's how parents are wired … to bless their children. That's exactly what God's like. You don't believe me? Well, let me ask you this, what's the very first thing that God said to and did for Adam and Eve, when He created them, the very first thing? Do you remember? So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them and then God blessed them and God said to them, ‘be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. God said, ‘See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of the earth and every tree with seed in its fruit you shall have them for food and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the air and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food and it was so. God saw everything that he had made and indeed it was very good and there was the evening and there was the morning of the sixth day. (Genesis chapter 1, verses 27 to 31) The last thing He did after completing all of creation, was to hand it over to Adam and Eve. God blessed them and He told them it's all theirs. The whole cotton picking lot, He gave it to them. He gave it to us. And it was only then, on the following day (the seventh day), once He'd done all the hard work of creation, once He'd given it all away to us that He decided to take a day of rest. Now, if you have any doubt, any doubt whatsoever that God wants to bless your socks off. If the story of creation still doesn't do it for you, then please turn your gaze with me to the cross of Christ. Galatians chapter 3, verses 13 and 14: Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us for it is written ‘cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'. In order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. God doesn't want to bring us up as spoilt brats. But wrap your mind around this; He wants to bless us beyond measure. The picture that Bruce Wilkinson paints in the passage I shared with you from his book, The Prayer Of Jabez, of standing near the river's edge asking for a cup of water to get you through each day, is how we've been conditioned to think about going to God, and asking for His blessings. "Don't ask for too much, don't be too demanding, don't impose on God". Well, that's not how we are as parents, are we? Of course, we don't want to spoil our kids. But the more they show us their gratefulness and maturity and selflessness, the more we want to bless them, right? We're wired to bless our children without measure, in the right way. Do you imagine that God isn't up to the same mark? I mean do you really? Here's what Jesus said on the matter, Matthew chapter 7, verse 11. If then you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more then will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask it. So let's get this thing about God's blessing straight. God is a good Father. He will never give us things that will cause us to become spoilt brats. So forget asking Him for that boat, or that holiday house, or that personal jet, or that bank account filled with millions and millions and millions of dollars or whatever currency you desire. He will no more fill us with that stuff than my parents would fill me with the candies at the store, that I demanded each time we were there. But ask Him for good things, worthwhile things, things that will achieve amazing stuff on this earth. And watch God open up the windows of heaven and pour untold blessings into your life. "What to ask for? How to ask for it?" is what we're going to be chatting about tomorrow and for the rest of this week on the program But right now, let me finish up by saying this, your God wants to bless you! EXTREME BLESSING Okay, so God doesn't want to turn you into a spoilt brat, we get that, right? Dear God, please give me the latest model of the BMW 7 series, in a nice deep midnight blue colour. That's a prayer that's unlikely to get much of a response out of God. And certainly, when I talk about the blessing of God, that's not what I'm talking about either. But, in scrubbing those self-indulgent desires from our prayer list, I think, sometimes, we scrub off the idea of all blessings or at least the idea of abundant blessings, the sort of blessing that overflows out of us because we just can't contain it. The reason why I've called this series of messages, God Wants To Bless You, is because God wants to bless you. And no more so do we discover that, than in the prayer of Jabez. Maybe you've read Bruce Wilkinson's book by that name. I only re-read it again recently. And I realised, even though I'm someone who spends a lot of time in God's Word, I realised how easy it is to be drawn off track in our thinking, and in our perception of what God means, when He says "I want to bless you". I truly believe that if we can wrap our hearts around the truth of God's blessing for us, it will completely change the way we understand God, the way we see ourselves and the way we see the rest of the time we have left here on this earth. So let me read to you straight out of God's Word, the prayer that Jabez prayed to God. It comes from 1 Chronicles chapter 4, verses 9 and 10. Now Jabez was more honourable than his brothers and his mother named him Jabez, saying, ‘because I bore him in pain'. And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that you would be with me and that you would keep me from evil, that I may cause no pain. So God granted him what he requested. Now these two verses, 1 Chronicles chapter 4 verses 9 and 10, are buried deep inside nine chapters of genealogy. Can you believe it? Nine chapters? I've read my Bible – front to back and front to back and back to front and back to front – on quite a number of occasions. But can I be honest with you? I lost it in these nine chapters, really. I know that all Scripture is inspired by God. I know that all Scripture is useful for teaching, reproof and correction and for training in righteousness, 2 Timothy chapter 3, verse 16. I get that, but nine chapters of genealogy? Give me a break! That is, until you stumble across Jabez's story in these two little verses. This dry list of names goes on for pages and pages and pages. And the only breather, the only diversion, the only bit of insight in all of that, is the prayer of Jabez. In other words, God is saying to us that this Jabez fellow is meant to stand out head and shoulders above the other five hundred plus names on that list. He was not a great king, not a great Prophet. He was for all intents and purposes a bog ordinary human being like you and me. That's the point and yet, he stands out head and shoulders above the rest. In fact, God very clearly tells us that "he was more honourable than his brothers". Why? Was it because of the great start he had in life, is it? Well, no, we're told his mother had a particularly difficult childbirth when it came time for Jabez to pop into this world. I obviously don't know how much it hurts to bring a child into this world. But in theory, I can tell you that every birth has pain associated with it. For the Bible to comment on this particular birth, means, that it must have been a tough one. So tough! So painful, in fact, that his mother gave him a name that means literally that he was a pain. I've tried to imagine what my life would have looked like, if instead of calling me Berni, my parents had given me a name "you're a pain". "Hi you're a pain, how are you going today"? Do you think that would have influenced his life badly, in a culture, where the meaning of your name was synonymous with who you are? You bet it would! The kid had a rotten start. But the Bible tells us that he was honoured above his brothers because he prayed a particular prayer. And the first part of that prayer was this. Oh, that you would bless me indeed. (1 Chronicles 4:10) Now, in some of the contemporary Bible translations they omit the word "indeed", which is a mistake. And which is why I've used the New King James translation here. The short of it is that the tense of the original Hebrew word for "bless me" makes it emphatic. It's as though he underlined it and put three exclamation marks after it. So the sense of what Jabez is asking God is this, "Oh God bless me a lot", that's the meaning. Have you asked that of God? Not a specific prayer for this or that but an open prayer for God to choose the blessing. And whatever it looks like, whatever form it comes in and whenever it does come, that it would be a huge blessing, that you will be blessed indeed. That the blessing would be so big that your tiny mind simply can't comprehend it. Have you ever asked God for that sort of blessing? And if so, why not? Because the Bible tells us that because of this prayer, Jabez was honoured above all his brothers. And as a result of this prayer, verse 10, God granted him what he requested. This is a prayer that I pray often, almost every day of my life: Dear God, bless me a lot. Not the blessings that I choose but the blessings You want to choose. Because I know, that You're going to think of stuff that I would never ever think of. I know that You're going to come up with blessings beyond anything I can ever hope for, dream or imagine. How do I know that? Because in Ephesians chapter 3, verse 20, I'm told that God is the God, who by the power at work within us, is able to accomplish abundantly far more than we can ask for or imagine. And if that's the God He is, if He can and He wants to do stuff that we can't even imagine, why wouldn't we simply ask Him to bless us the way He wants to bless us. Why wouldn't we leave the choice open to Him? And if the Bible tells us that Jabez was honoured above all the others. And that God gave him what he asked for, why wouldn't we ask for the same thing? It seems pretty obvious doesn't it? And here's what happens when we do, God begins to move supernaturally in our lives despite and even through some of the tough things we're going through. God starts to make appointments for us. He starts to give us opportunities to take the blessing He's giving us, to let it flow through us, into the lives of other people. A blessing is literally someone speaking well of you. In the New Testament, the Greek word for blessing is eulogia, from which we get the word, eulogy. A blessing is God speaking well of you. But when God speaks, something amazing happens. The Bible tells us, God calls into existence things that do not yet exist. (Romans 4:17) So when God blesses you, He speaks into your life and supernaturally makes things happen that don't yet exist and would otherwise never have happened. Sometimes, He does that of His own accord. Dad's are like that. As our Father, His heart is to bless us. But as any father does, He longs for us to come to Him and ask. He longs for us to humble ourselves and turn to Him and ask for His blessing, His eulogia. He's calling into existence things that don't yet exist into our lives. Does that give you a different perspective on God's blessing? Does that make you want to get down on your knees right now and ask for His blessing? Does that make you want to pray this prayer at the start of every day? If it doesn't I have absolutely no idea why. And here's the great thing, the totally fantastic thing … by leaving the decision up to God, it means that instead of asking for selfish things, we know that we're going to get God's good things. And you know what Jesus said? He said, If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish and it will be done for you. (John 15:7) So then, the only question is, what are you waiting for? IT'S TIME TO ASK I'm not a great one for prayer formulas. I don't think God works that way. In fact, Jesus made it clear that the way to pray wasn't to heap empty praises upon empty sentence before God; that just doesn't impress Him at all. What God wants us to do is to pray from our hearts, but can I tell you this? Since I've started praying along the lines of that Jabez prayer (it's something that I do almost every day these days), I have seen God's answer to that prayer in so many ways; in powerful ways; in mighty ways; ways that have always been much, much further and beyond anything that I could have conjured up. The Bible says that: God desires everybody to be saved and to come to a knowledge of truth. (1 Timothy 2:4) And that's why He blesses the likes of you and me; so that we can be the entry point of His abundant overflowing blessing into this world; so that He can bless the lost and the hurting through you and me. If you're still not convinced that you should be asking for God's blessing, then listen to Jesus Himself. John 16:22, Jesus said: Until now, you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. I want to encourage you to start asking for God's blessing every day in your life. The thing about God is that He's like any good father. He knows when to bless and He knows how to bless. Just the other morning, I was talking to a very, very wealthy man about his children over breakfast, and I asked him, "How do you go about blessing your children? In fact, when they grow up, are you going to help them financially or will you allow them to make their own way through in life?" and this is how he answered me. I thought it was really wise. "Well," he said, "that depends on them. If they want to go out and serve God and sacrifice their lives for other people, I have told them if they can't afford it, I'll buy them a house. I'll help them, of course I'll help them, I'm their father. But if they want to go and sit on the beach and laze around and be selfish and lazy, I've told them, they're on their own. The choice is really theirs." And I thought to myself, "What a Godly piece of wisdom!" Isn't that how God wants to deal with us? Of course, He wants to bless us, but it really depends on us – on our heart; on our attitude. And if you and I have an attitude of putting other people before ourselves, of serving them and serving God, hey; why wouldn't God want to bless us abundantly? He's the best Father that's ever been, or ever will be. So I pray the prayer of Jabez pretty much every day – not by road, not as a formula, but from the heart. That's why I find myself praying for you every day. I pray that God would expand my territory by letting His Word take a hold of your heart – by growing the kingdom of God in you and through you, into the lives of countless other people. To me, sitting here and chatting with you, (and just quietly a few million other people around the globe as well), is like throwing a pebble into a pond and seeing the impact ripple out through your life. It's like throwing a few million pebbles in a few million ponds, and seeing them ripple out. That's been the impact for me of asking God to bless me indeed and to expand my territories. A simple prayer by a simple, ordinary guy, and it's what God does. And if He allows His blessing to flow through a clutz like me, I can't begin to imagine what He can do through someone as beautiful and gifted and talented as you are. Are you starting to get the picture here? Perhaps, you haven't been receiving because you haven't been asking. Perhaps, it's time to start asking and asking, and asking and asking, day after day after day after day, ‘cos I guarantee: if you're asking for the right reasons and not selfish reasons, you are going to see miracle after miracle happen in you and through you So here's the challenge, here's the dare: start asking! You'll be amazed at the miracles because God wants to bless you.

On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we travel back in time to that Wednesday morning where Jesus Christ was crucified according to the scriptures, buried in a borrowed tomb, and spent 3 full days and three full nights in the pit of Hell. By the time Friday comes along, everything is nearly finished and not just starting as Roman Catholic mythology would tell you. Not only that, all the modern Bible versions, including the New King James, removes the word 'Easter' and replaces it with 'Passover'. This is a glaring error, and only the King James Bible retains 'Easter', and for a very good reason as you will soon see. Join us tonight on Rightly Dividing as we shatter your illusions about Good Friday and replace them with the sure foundation of biblical truth that you can bet your eternity on. All over the world this Friday, non-denominational Christians and Roman Catholics will be observing Good Friday. The Catholic church teaches that Jesus went to the cross on a Friday and rose from the grave on a Sunday morning. It sounds right, and mostly everyone across the board accepts those days and that chronology. Only one problem. It's completely wrong according to the biblical account of what actually happened that day on the cross at Calvary.

BODY Day 2 - Psalms 139:14 The Bible translations that I want to review today are the new King James Contemporary English version and the new living. New King James says, I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well. The CV says, I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me. Everything you do is marvelous. Of this, I have no doubt. The New Living translation says, Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex. Your workmanship is marvelous. How well I know it. What's interesting about this scripture are the three words that I want to highlight. Fearfully. Reverence - High esteem - to admire with pride, to have joy and wonder and delight to approve. High regard - to consider or think of someone or something in a specific way. Great respect - a deep feeling of admiration of someone elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. God says you're fearfully and wonderfully made. Now this word wonderfully means Wonderfully Distinct - Recognizably different. Separated - viewed as a unit by yourself, masterpiece, work of art. Distinguished - An observable difference, respected, impressive. Marvelous Extraordinary - very unusual, exceptional, amazing, astounding. Surpassing - incomparable, outstanding Wondrous - inspiring a feeling of wonder or delight. So you're exceptional, you're amazing, you're outstanding, you're inspiring, delight in wonder. You're recognizably different. You're viewed as a masterpiece of work of art. There's an observable difference about you that's respected. People admire you, they have joy and wonder, and they take delight in you. And they have great respect for you, which is a deep appreciation. So how can you not have confidence? How is it that you not say to yourself that you're wonderful, that you're created this way on purpose, that the hard work and skill and equality to God used to create you makes you extraordinary? That you were created with admiration and pride and joy and approval simply stated that you're enough. That you are fearfully and wonderfully made; that you're impressive. Your abilities and qualities, and achievements are built into your DNA. How could you not have self-confidence when you understand what the word of God says about you? He says that you're fearfully and wonderfully made. You were created with a wonderful purpose; you are extraordinary; The hard work and great skill, quality, and materials used to create you. You are enough. You are designed with appreciation, joy, and approval. You're fearfully and wonderfully made. Again, I say God made a marvelous work with you. And you have impressive abilities, qualities, and achievements built into your DNA. Finally, you're fearfully and wonderfully made approved of distinguished and exceptional. Let's end here with a prayer. Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you. Praise you for fearfully and wonderfully making me everything you do is marvelous of this. I have no doubt. God, I choose to believe your word about who I am. I walk in your confidence that you built in me. Every day, I will remind myself of where I come from and who I am, and what I'm capable of. I'm more than enough. I'm more than a conqueror. I can do everything that I was created to do. And as always, you give me exceedingly abundantly above all, I ask, or think, according to the power that's active in me. So, Lord, I activate the power of self-confidence you placed in me and move into my day assured of the success you planned in my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen. What does it actually mean to 'overcome'? I discuss the context of overcoming strongholds as we enter into the thoughts and strategies that Jesus gives us in His word about overcoming anxiety. If anyone knew about anxiety, it was the Apostle Paul. In this episode, I will take you through a journey in Philippians, chapter 4, where Paul shows us how he overcame his anxiety. I will also point to where anxiety was experienced on our behalf, so that we would have a way out. I encourage you to get out your Bible. I like to use The Passion Translation, but I also like to refer to the New King James version as well as the New Living Translation. I want you to be hopeful that if you experience anxiety, there is a way to freedom. Tune in, and don't forget to check out the other episodes for encouragement and hope.

Do you wonder where to find hope in this day? Has the turbulence of life and media manipulation caused you to believe that this is a season of hopelessness? Then join us below as we discover how YOU can find hope in all circumstances, as well as, how hope found in God is based on biblical promise! Promises of the Word From Genesis to Revelation, God's promises are written. Many of them we know—at least in part—however, by examining the Word, and we realize that they are more numerous and wonderful than we could ever imagine! “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”—Numbers 23:19 “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”—2 Corinthians 1:20 Every promise of God is sure, and through Him we have a right to access those promises. However, to do so we first need to know what His promises are… With God, Hope is Not Deferred The word, hope, can be found 151 times in the New King James version of the Bible, 170 in the CJB version, and 180 in the NIV! While not every instance is directly related to God's promise of hope, they all build upon it and remind us why hope is an important blessing. So, why is hope important? Why do we not only need hope, but another of God's promises in turn—the promise of fulfillment?
