It is so important for you and I as followers of Jesus to remember the things that are revealed in the Holy Scriptures. You can hear the passion and concern that Peter has for the false teachers that are seeking to destroy the church with their heretical teachings and perversion of the gospel of the grace of God(2 Peter 2).You can also hear the passion and concern that Peter has for the lost as he tells them that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). You can hear his concern, passion and warning that he has regarding those who are living what I would call “borderline Christianity” in light of the fact that the pending Day of The Lord is imminent (2 Peter 3:10-14).But before Peter says goodbye, he exhorts them in 2 Peter 3:18 to grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen. Dearly beloved, my prayer for you and I as a church family is that we, both individually and corporately will grow in grace and in the heart knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.Because of the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, we are not getting what we deserve. I personally believe that Peter was telling these saints that one of the ways that we grow in grace in our personal lives and as a congregation is by being conduits of the grace of God towards each other. Remember beloved, the gift of eternal life is rooted and grounded in a vital, loving, intimate knowledge of the Only True God, and His Son, Jesus Christ. And the fruit or overflow of that relationship will Him will bring forth fruit in our lives that brings Him glory both now and forever, Amen. SELAH

THE ONLY TRUE GOD, Part 4 of  Chapter 11 of The Church and The Gospel  Pages 167 to 173 To Summarize This Chapter   The Prophet Joseph Smith said that “very few” understand “rightly” the true character of God.Scientists and philosophers have fallen short in their ideas of explaining the creation of man on this planet.Mankind are the offspring of God. All things are reproduced through no other means than procreation and generation.All the plants and animals came to this earth from another world.Adam (Michael, the great Prince, the Archangel) came here with a resurrected celestial body, and brought Eve (one of his wives) with him.   By eating of the fruit in the Garden of Eden, their bodies were transformed, allowing them to have mortal children.This doctrine, as taught by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, was gradually rejected by subsequent Church members and leaders, and today is           considered as merely a false theory.

THE ONLY TRUE GOD, Part 2 of  Chapter 11 of The Church and The Gospel  Pages 153 to 160 The Priesthood is an everlasting principle, and existed with God from eternity, and will to eternity, without beginning of days or end of years. The keys have to be brought from heaven whenever the Gospel is sent. When they are revealed from heaven, it is by Adam's authority. (TPJS, p. 157) Adam delivers up his stewardship to Christ, that which was delivered to him as holding the keys of the universe, but retains his standing as head of the human family. (DHC 3:386) Commencing with Adam, who was the first man, who is spoken of in Daniel as being the “Ancient of [160] Days,” or in other words, the first and oldest of all, the great, grand progenitor of whom it is said in another place he is Michael, because he was the first and father of all, not only by progeny, but the first to hold the spiritual blessings, to whom was made known the plan of ordinances for the salvation of his posterity unto the end, and to whom Christ was first revealed, and through whom Christ has been revealed from heaven, and will continue to be revealed from henceforth. Adam holds the keys of the dispensation of the fullness of times; i.e., the dispensation of him from the beginning to Christ, and from Christ to the end of the dispensations that are to be revealed. (TPJS, pp. 167-68) He set the ordinances to be the same forever and ever, and set Adam to watch over them, to reveal them from heaven to man, or to send angels to reveal them. “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14) These angels are under the direction of Michael or Adam. (TPJS, p. 168) This, then, is the nature of the Priesthood; every man holding the Presidency of his dispensation, and one man holding the Presidency of them all, even Adam. (TPJS, p. 169)

A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him; thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the judgment was set, and the books were opened. I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven, and [161] came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that shall not be destroyed. (Dan 7:9, 10, 13, 14) The Ancient of Days is now taking His seat in judgment and aspects of His wrath are beginning to manifest themselves on the earth. Soon His Son Jesus Christ will return in the clouds of heaven and in righteousness He will judge and make war against all evil. (Destiny Magazine, Dec. 1953, Vol. 24, No. 12)

THE ONLY TRUE GOD, Part 1, Chapter 11 of The Church and The Gospel    Pages 147 to 153   This Is Life Eternal . . . The Prophet Joseph Smith once said: There are but a very few beings in the world who understand rightly the character of God (TPJS, p. 343) And again- The things of God are of deep import; and time and experience and careful and ponderous and solemn thoughts can only find them out. (TPJS, p. 137) We never can comprehend the things of God and of heaven, but by revelation. We may spiritualize and express opinions to all eternity; but that is no authority. (TPJS, p. 292) I want to ask this congregation, every man, woman and child, to answer the question in their own hearts, what kind of a being God is? Ask yourselves; turn your thoughts into your hearts, and say if any of you have seen, heard, or communed with Him? This is a question that may occupy your attention for a long time. I again repeat the question-What kind of a being is God? Does any man or woman know? Have any of you seen Him, heard Him, or communed with Him? Here is the question that will, peradventure, from this time henceforth occupy your attention. The scriptures inform us that “This is life eternal that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.” (DHC 6:303)

In today's conversation I chat with New Testament Scholar, Dr. James McGrath, about his most recent books, The A to Z of the New Testament: Things Experts Know That Everyone Else Should Too, as well as Christmaker: A Life of John the Baptist. Dr. McGrath discusses, among other things, whether the eye of the needle really was a gate in the city wall, if there is a book in the Bible called Revelations, and if John the Baptist was a lone hermit or a charming herald. Goodwin Chair in New Testament Language and Literature at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. He has a Diploma in Religious Studies from the University of Cambridge, a BD from the University of London, and his PhD from Durham University. He is the author of John's Apologetic Christology, The Only True God, Theology and Science Fiction, and The Burial of Jesus, as well as (with Charles Haberl of Rutgers University) the two-volume Mandaean Book of John: Critical edition, Translation, and Commentary. Also author of numerous articles (and a few science fiction short stories) and the editor or co-editor of several volumes.

Now in Joshua 22, we come to a very interesting incident and conflict that almost caused a war between the tribes before they hardly get settled into their inheritance because of the “great impressive altar” that the two and half tribes built on the border at the Jordan River.   The word traveled quickly that the tribes east of the Jordan had erected an altar. While these two and a half tribes had been very sincere in what they did, their action was misunderstood; and the other tribes prepared for possible war. But wisely, they waited while an official delegation investigated what was going on. "He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him" (Prov. 18:13).   The delegation of ten princes, one from each tribe, was led by Phinehas, the son of the high priest, a man who had already proved himself courageous in defending the Law of the Lord (Num. 25; Ps. 106:30-31). It was the responsibility of the tribal leaders and the priests to investigate every situation in Israel that appeared to be a breach of the Law (Deut. 13). God had instructed the Jews to destroy the altars of the heathen nations in Canaan and not to build altars of their own. There was to be one altar of sacrifice at the one sanctuary that God had appointed (Deut. 12; Lev. 17:8-9).   In Joshua 22:15-20, it's likely that Phinehas made this speech, but note that his address represented the agreement of all the tribes. Phinehas called what they had done "an act of treachery”, which means Joshua had commended these two and a half tribes for their loyalty, and now it appeared that they had proved faithless. They had “turned away” (vv. 16, 18, 23, 29), which meant they were no longer following the Lord (see v. 5). This word carries the idea of "backsliding," gradually moving away from the Lord. The strongest word used was “rebel” (vv. 16, 18-19, 22, 29), which means deliberately resisting God's will and disobeying His Law. In building an unauthorized altar, these two and a half tribes were guilty of apostasy. "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry" (1 Sam. 15:23).   From the nation's recent history Phinehas cited two serious cases of rebellion as warning to these tribes. The first was the participation of Israel in the heathen rites of the Moabites, when the men committed harlotry with the Moabite women (Josh. 22:17; Num. 25). As a result, 24,000 people died. The second was the sin of Achan after the victory at Jericho, when he deliberately took the spoils that belonged to the Lord (Josh. 22:20; see Josh. 7). His sin led to defeat at Ai and the deaths of thirty-six Jewish soldiers. It also led to his own death and that of the members of his family.   This conflict between the tribes should remind us as believers that we are all apart of the “household of God”, His Church, the body of Jesus Christ, and what we do affects the whole body. Also, we shouldn't even give the appearance that we are worshipping the altars and gods of this world in our attempt to worship the One and Only True God, through Jesus Christ! Being a borderline believer can cause all kinds of conflict and mislead other believers.   Think about it!   God bless!

Today on the Unchanging Word we consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. Our verse of study is Hebrews 3:1. When Jesus was on earth He prayed to His Father in John 17:3 : "This is eternal life, that they might know Thee, the Only True God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." Jesus is God's apostle, the one whom God sent to us, to you and to me. And even now, our Lord is in heaven before the Father praying, interceding and advocating for us as our Great High Priest. So many religious leaders missed the Christmas miracle that was and IS Jesus, 2000 years ago. There is so much you can say about the story of the birth of Jesus. Although I believe at times, we have made much of the story a grand production losing a lot of the significance this actual event holds. It is part of the foundational beliefs we hold to. It is more than a “Christmas production” or a “light-hearted story” we tell our children. What about the pain Mary went through while giving birth? What of the 9 months did she spend in tiredness, sickness, and her joints loosening to prepare for the birth? What of the fact that she didn't go to a hospital and one doctor and five nurses to help her give birth? She just had a man – her husband a carpenter – and some animals as her cheering section. Well, we are not going to focus on the story of Jesus' birth today. What we are going to focus on is what we are called to do with this story. I n Luke 1:39-45, Mary visits her relative Elizabeth, who is also giving birth to a son, John; or as we know him – John the Baptist. Inside the womb, Elizabeth's baby leaps for joy when Mary says hello. Why? Jesus is in her womb. She gives Mary encouragement and ends with this statement, “Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished.” At this moment, for us that statement would read, “Blessed is the one who has believed that what the Lord has said WAS accomplished.” Many people think that in order to believe in God and go to church, you need to raise your life to a high standard, and if you don't, God will not accept you, or the church will not invite you in. God will accept you at any stage in your life, but the church, unfortunately, is not as gracious. So people stay away and come only on the days of the year they feel obligated to come to. I wish for all those around us to understand that we are not exclusive. We are not a club in which you must pass certain tests in order to be a part. You don't even have to believe in Jesus in order to come here! All we ask you to do is listen to the message and allow God to help you see that He is who He says He is. Jesus is the Son of God who desires to have a friendship and lasting relationship with you. He wouldn't have died for you and I if that were not true! You will be blessed for believing without having seen with your own eyes. I urge you to look into your heart today and let God show Himself to you. All you have to do to be part of God's family is believe and call on the Name of the Lord and you will be saved. That is a confession of Faith in Him. We are here to help you in your decision and to help you grow in Faith and understanding of God and what He desires of you. Now, to those of us who believe and have already called on His name. We are called upon to do something I feel we too often do NOT do. In Luke 1:76-79 it says, “And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for Him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide or feet into the path of peace.” Although we are not John the Baptist, we are also called to do the same thing. Even though Jesus has already come once, He is going to come again. This is why our message is a message of Hope. There will be a time when He will come again to take all who believe in Him to be with Him. For us that is heaven. That is the hope – that our life has purpose. We are to go before the Lord and prepare the way for Him to come again. We are to hold out this message of Hope to those around us in new and creative ways. We are to help lead people to the answers to their questions – the One and Only True God – to Jesus, Yeshua PRAY. PREPARE. PROTECT. PROCLAIM. PERSIST. PERSEVERE. PRAY AGAIN. PASS IT ON. POWER UP. In the Old Testament, there were times during the year that every child of God had to travel to Jerusalem to meet with God. Why was that so? There was just one temple where God dwelt and to meet with Him, they had to go there. But in Christ Jesus, God came to live in us and we became His temple! I don't know what that means to you; if you value that your physical body is the Permanent House of the Living, One & Only True God. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps! I carry God! The Only True God Reader: Jon Watson Date: 4th August 2021 Time: Passage: Isaiah 45:21 ------------------- The passage from which this verse comes is a wonderful Gospel passage speaking about many people coming to plead with God for salvation. Many of the people spoken about had their idols of wood and stone, but they would come to the Jewish people to see if their living and true God would accept them. God's answer was that of course he would: "Turn to me all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other" (Verse 22). God wants all people to be saved. But look at how God describes himself in verse 21: "a righteous (just) God and a Saviour." One meaning of God being a righteous or just God is that he can be trusted; he speaks the truth and tells only what is right (45:19). But one other great thing about this text is the fact that God has a way of being just and a Saviour at the same time. We see this in a clearer way in the New Testament when God's perfect Son the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross. He took all the sin of all who put their trust in him and paid the penalty for that sin (God is just and he must judge sin) and so he became at the same time the Saviour. God is just so does not demand any more punishment for the sin of those for whom Jesus died. That is Gospel good news and it is the message God wants all people to hear. It is true. ## Prayer Dear Lord, as I thank you for Jesus, help me to spread this good news. Amen.

The slavery that the Galatians are in danger of embracing again is not just a matter of forfeiting sonship, but of abandoning the Only True God. So the Apostle Paul makes an impassioned plea for them to understand the nature of their adoption into God's family.

This week's portion contains two of the most fundamental concepts in Judaism: the Asarat HaD'varim (the Ten Words, also known as the Ten Commandments), and the "Shema". This is Parashat Va'etchanan. Moshe is still outlining some familiar reminders of Isra'el's disobedience and the awesome fact that HaShem nevertheless has brought them this far! In fact, they are right at the eastern side of the Yarden (Jordan) River! Call to Greatness Chapter four contains what I like to call the "Jewish Great Commission". Here in verses 1-14 Moshe carefully instructs the community to live out the Torah in such a way that the surrounding nations will see and learn about the unique and awesome mercy of the One and Only True God. Because of its significance, I want to quote some of this passage at length: "See! I have taught you rules and laws as God my Lord has commanded me, so [that you] will be able to keep them in the land to which you are coming and which you will be occupying. Safeguard and keep [these rules], since this is your wisdom and understanding in the eyes of the nations. They will hear all these rules and say, "This great nation is certainly a wise and understanding people." What nation is so great that they have God close to it, as God our Lord is, whenever we call Him? What nation is so great that they have such righteous rules and laws, like this entire Torah that I am presenting before you today? Only take heed and watch yourself very carefully, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes saw. Do not let [this memory] leave your hearts, all the days of your lives. Teach your children and children's children about the day you stood before God your Lord at Horeb. It was then that God said to me, "Congregate the people for Me, and I will let them hear My words. This will teach them to be in awe of Me as long as they live on earth, and they will also teach their children." You approached and stood at the foot of the mountain. The mountain was burning with a fire reaching the heart of heaven, with darkness, cloud and mist. Then God spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words, but saw no image; there was only a voice. He announced to you His covenant, instructing you to keep the Ten Commandments, and He wrote them on two stone tablets. At that time, God commanded me to teach you rules and laws, so that you will keep them in the land which you are crossing [the Jordan] to occupy." (D'varim 4:5-14, Pentateuch) What makes this passage stand out is Isra'el's position and influence among the surrounding people groups! Such a legacy—to be the vessels to share the precious Word of HaShem with those who have not heard! Doesn’t this remind you of the intents and purposes of the Great Commission? In the TaNaKH the Torah “emanated” from Isra'el for the entire world to see; in the Apostolic Scriptures Yeshua’s talmidim actually took the Torah to the world! Indeed, it is the very same good news that is contained within the Torah, the message of the mercy and grace of an all-loving, all-forgiving God, who is intimately interested in the well-being of his created subjects, both Jew and non-Jew!
