Fearlessly Facing Fifty and beyond - What does it mean to see yourself through a lens of beauty rather than criticism? This question forms the heart of my conversation with former Ford model turned photographer Kristen Jensen, who has mastered the art of capturing authentic beauty in everyone she photographs.Kristen's journey began in front of the camera, traveling to 34 countries during her 20-year modeling career. But it was the moment she picked up a Hi8 camera and started filming behind the scenes that she discovered her true calling. "I was used to being photographed, but I wanted to be on the other side," she explains. This transition from being seen to seeing others became her superpower – the ability to look at people through what she calls "a soft lens" that reveals their inherent beauty. As we navigate our 50s and beyond, many women experience a dip in self-confidence and struggle with visibility. Kristen's perspective offers a refreshing antidote: "It's not about perfection, that's not what sells. It's about energy." This wisdom extends beyond photography into how we present ourselves in every aspect of life. Whether starting a business, moving to a new community, or simply facing another day, authenticity trumps perfection every time. Our conversation explores the challenges of reinvention – from building new friendships to redefining purpose. We discuss the importance of having cheerleaders in your corner when taking risks, the reality of aging bodies that require different care, and the poignant experience of losing parents. Through it all, we return to the central question that defines this stage of life: "Who am I now?"Ready to see yourself through a kinder lens? Listen now to discover how embracing your authentic self – wrinkles, imperfections, and all – might be the most fearless act of all. Then join our community of women who are choosing courage over comfort every day as they fearlessly face their futures.Connect with Kristen hereReady to FEARLESSLY FACE all the F WORDS – be inspired and encouraged? As parents, we spend a lot of time and energy ensuring that our kids are safe in their physical spaces. We put up safeguards around hour homes. We go to great lengths to live in a safe neighborhood and send our kids to a safe school.   But what about our kid's digital spaces?   The threats for our children are as significant in cyberspace as they are in their physical space.   Catherine welcomes back Kristen Jensen, founder of Defend Young Minds, to discuss the threats our children face in cyberspace and how to protect them. Defend Young Minds creates powerful resources to protect children online   Our culture says that our children deserve privacy online, but no child deserves to face these threats alone. We may think that our child is just upstairs playing a video game, but there are dangers in digital spaces. You wouldn't drop your child off in Central Park and say, “Have fun! I'll see you in a few hours…” And yet we often leave our kids vulnerable to dangerous influences from around the world when we hand them an unprotected, unmonitored device.   Some digital dangers that can ensnare kids include: Pornography Sexting Cyberbullying Sextortion Trafficking   Tackling all the technology surrounding our kids may seem like an insurmountable task, but while our kids may have more tech savvy, we have wisdom. And we must use it to protect our kids.   About the Guest: Kristen A. Jenson, MA is the founder of Defend Young Minds and #1 best-selling author of the Good Pictures Bad Pictures series of read-aloud books which have translations in 10 languages. Few conversations make parents fill more ill-equipped and tongue-tied than discussing the topic of pornography with our kids. How do we even broach the subject?   Catherine's guest has created a book series that does all of the hard work for us. Kristen Jensen is the #1 best-selling author of the Good Pictures Bad Pictures series of read-aloud books, which have been translated into 10 languages. These books define pornography and warn against the threats, and then they provide parents and kids with a game plan to defend young minds against the dangers.   In this episode, Kristen walks parents through the Defend Young Minds triple defense plan for parents:   Get the facts. Arm your kids. Continue the conversation   As parents, we must give our kids the proper vocabulary to discuss this threat while explaining the dangers lurking behind enticing pictures and videos. And we need to empower our children to resist the temptation.   Pornography isn't your child's fault, but it is their problem. No child deserves to face the porn industry alone. They need to be educated and they need to have a strategy for the moment when they encounter pornography.    About the author Kristen A. I want to share what I went through because I know it helped me to hear from others who went through their own experiences. I do not pretend to think that because I went through this situation that I understand anyone else's situation. We all have our own experiences and we handle those experiences differently. If you have gone through something like a miscarriage or difficulty conceiving, I can promise you you are not alone. There is someone else who has experienced this hardship too. And you are never alone because Jesus promised He will always be with you. And Jesus will bring you through this. In John 16:33 Jesus says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Review of natural family planning charts when we were “not, not trying:” how we identified our fertile window, peak days, times of intercourse. If you want to learn more about the Marquette Method of natural family planning, take my class: www.nfppharmacist.com/resources. The Marquette Method of natural family planning helped us know exactly when to try to achieve pregnancy, when I ovulated, and when to expect my next period.A note on days of intimacy - the timing does not always work out when you want it to!-Urine pregnancy tests detect hCG, a hormone produced by a fertilized egg that has implanted, and are most likely to be positive on the day of an expected period-My first positive pregnancy test was on a Sunday and then I started bleeding on the following Thursday-Trust your gut and advocate for yourself. If you think something is not right, even if your doctor or practitioner has told you that you are probably fine, speak up for yourself.-God can do miracles, but that doesn't mean He will every time. He doesn't always answer our prayers the way we would like him too.-Early pregnancy loss (EPL) is generally defined as the loss of a pregnancy in the first trimester-Miscarriage is a broader term, generally defined as the loss of a pregnancy in the first or second trimester-The incidence of EPL is as high as 31%. The true incidence is difficult to determine as many losses are not recognized.-Risk factors for EPL: age >35 years, prior pregnancy loss, or certain medical conditions in the mother or father-Previous episodes related to taking care of your health before pregnancy:Episode 59: Preconception health - featuring Dr. Liz Berg, DC, LCEpisode 36: Nourished for Life - featuring Kristen Jensen, RDEpisode 16: Self-care to Reduce Stress and Balance Hormones with Dr. Heather Rhodes -Exposure to toxins, pollutants, and other environmental factors may also increase the risk of EPL-Previous episodes related to removing or avoiding these harms:Episode 64: Tuning into what your body really needs - brain integration, nutrition response testing, and more - featuring Anita BastianEpisode 60: Limiting exposure to endocrine disruptors to optimize your hormone health - featuring Courtney Warday, RDEpisode 53: Safer Skincare - featuring Helen Helgeson, Crunchi advocateEpisode 47: Opening your body's channels with acupuncture - featuring Brianna Kraus, Full Circle acupunctureEpisode 44: Balance and support your hormones with herbal remedies - featuring Phyllis Jaworski, herbal practitioner at Sacred Ibis BotanicalsEpisode 22: - Thrive with a Functional Medicine Approach to Health - Interview with Dr. Melody Hartzler-Women with EPL are likely to have subsequent normal pregnancies.-Episode 51: A restorative approach to fertility - featuring Nora Pope and Dr. Jessica Liu, NDI am never going to say this was a good thing that happened, but I believe Romans 8:28 that says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” I believe our bad situation can be used for good. What did you think? Explicit Content & Our Children Today, sexually explicit images aren't just those naughty magazines sold from behind the drug store counter. Milder or “soft” versions of it can be seen on billboards along the highway. Stronger forms are readily available out in the open now as well. They may be lurking just next to the candy aisle at your local convenient store. These images are not only in the line of sight of your children but well within their grasp. But this isn't the worst of the readily available images. Many parents are continuing to harbor explicit images and scenes by way of satellite or cable TV packages. These images are in high-definition motion picture and living color, truly bringing these scenes to life and leaving nothing to the imagination. Could there be anything worse? Unfortunately, yes! Many parents have given (often unknowingly) their children their own private access to it. The access comes by way of the devices they carry to school, to play, and even to bed each night! All of this and more are available with a simple click on their smartphones. How do we protect the eyes, hearts, minds, souls, and spirits of our kids against a now socially acceptable poison? On this episode of the Shift Changer Podcast, I sat down with the lovely and beautiful, Lorna Wells. Native to Houston, Lorna is the wife to Tauren Wells and a mother to 3 with bundle of joy on the way! She's also an amazing singer, a lover of God, her family, and people. I started following her on Instagram and then on her blog, Alive and Wells, where she keeps it real while sharing the goodness of God! What really stopped me in my tracks that lead me to reach out to her was a post she made about Purity. She mentioned in her post about values her and her husband, Tauren, teach their kids monthly and they find a verse that goes along with that value. As a mother trying to do the same thing, I am inspired by her pursuit to instill Biblical values to her children. Lorna shares her wisdom that I believe all women can gleam from, not only mothers. This episodes Sticky Note Quote is: "Most things are caught not taught." Essentially, good or bad, our children learn by how we live our lives in front of them. Lorna talks about the book to make your kids aware of what pictures they can & cannot see in this digital age: Good Pictures, Bad Pictures, Jr: A Simple Plan to Protect Young Minds. by Kristen Jensen and Debbi Cox and the advanced copy for older children: Good Pictures, Bad Pictures: Porn Proof Today's Young Kids. I highly recommend this book! SHIFT | CHANGE ACRONYM TAKEAWAY: S - Spend one on one time with your children. Childhood is a season. Don't let the season and moments pass you by. H - Hear your kids out. Put your phone down and enjoy the gift of your kids! Savor the moments you have with your children by hearing them out and them desiring to talk with you. Again, childhood is a season. I - Intentionality. Be intentional with your kids. If you don't plan and think it out, it won't happen. There is some work to be done in the background in teaching your children, but they are worth your time & investment. F - Fight for your marriage. The health of your marriage or relationships strongly determines the spiritual and emotional health of your children. T - Train them to love the Word and follow Christ. Commit to the time and consistency. I hope you enjoyed this episode! Connect with Lorna on Instagram here and her blog, Alive and Wells. Have a story that inspired change by you or someone else? While Mormons claim Joseph Smith as the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is still very much Brigham Young's church.  Brigham's leadership was formative in shaping the LDS movements as it is today.   The husband of 55 wives Brigham's influence was more than organisational.  He was also responsible for establishing a patriarchal structure and suite of doctrines and practices that affirmed that loyalty to the highest priesthood office in the church was the church's primary orthodoxy, and the feminine role was to honour that priesthood. So, what of those who directly inherited Brigham's legacy.  What of his female posterity? Great, great, great granddaughters of Brigham, Kristen Jensen and Crystal Chamberlain along with the great great great granddaughter of Zina Huntington (one of Brigham's wives) join me to discuss what it means to have inherited Brigham's legacy along with the wounds of their grandmothers.

The Patrick Coffin Show | Interviews with influencers | Commentary about culture | Tools for transformation

Clay Olsen is a man on a mission. The organization he cofounded and now leads, fightthenewdrug.org, is dedicated to education young people of all ages understand the nature of pornography addiction but also the emotional and social harms occasioned by even “moderate” or “occasional” porn use. FTND is not faith-based and doesn’t rely on religious principles to engage the phenomenon. It’s all about the science of how porn affects the brain and the quality of relationships. And it is filled with high-quality media content of may different kinds. In our interview Clay shares many stories about the struggle toward recovery, including a heartbreaking personal anecdote about a nine-year-old girl who found hardcore porn online and ended up watching it nightly for months on end before her parents found out and intervened. Parents: Get. A. Clue. The pornography industry never sleeps, is always on the prowl, and doesn’t negotiate with its hostages.   BOOK RECOMMENDED IN THIS EPISODE Good Pictures, Bad Pictures    by Kristen Jensen and Dr. Gaily Poynter The Porn Myth: Exposing the Reality Behind the Fantasy of Pornography  By Matthew Fradd   Don’t forget to subscribe to the show to get automatic updates. I received a phone call from a dad the other day. He was in shock. His 9 year old son was searching for pornography on the family computer. He was typing into Google words that he heard at school. His son was now staring at images to graphic to describe. His father shocked, disgusted and terrified as to what to do next. So if this were your nine year old little boy, what would you do? My guest today is Kristen Jensen, author of "Good Pictures Bad Pictures" and she has great advice along with a strategic plan as to what parents can do to start the porn conversation with their young children.
