Take a break from the present, Pilgrim and mount up! Jovial Jay and Shua strap on the chaps, kick on the spurs, and don the ten-gallon hat as they remember some of the great Western movies and TV shows they grew up with. Get along l'il doggies and Enjoy Stuff!   Hollywood may have romanticized the Old West to create a pretty unrealistic view of history, but it sure made for some great movies. Cowboy movies have been around for more than 100 years, but some of them really stood out as we were growing up. Giddy up, pardners and get ready to Enjoy some Westerns.   News Kellogg's and Nickelodeon are ready to fill your guts with slime! Well, Apple Jacks Slime Cereal anyway We have new, official images of the LEGO Atari 2600 set, and it is almost cooler than the real thing.  The ice cream van is coming down your street. And the sign on the truck says “Hot” and “Now” because there are new Ice Cream inspired donuts at Krispy Kreme Nintendo is breaking into pictures! They just bought a movie studio to make their own movies based on their IP What we're Enjoying Look out for Shua because he's been flinging axes at a place in town called Flanneljax. Who knew that axe throwing could be a fun group activity? Well, Monty Python knew it was OK to be a lumberjack. Jay finally made it to see Pixar's Lightyear. He enjoyed the story but thought they could have done even more.    Sci-Fi Saturdays/MCU Location Scout Be sure to check out Jay's articles on Retrozap.com. This week he revisits the 1995 Bruce Willis film 12 Monkeys. Willis plays a time traveler that is sent back in time to save the future from a raging disease. The world is a mess because of disease and famine and a bunch of leaders that aren't helping to solve the…uh…  Um, I don't think he succeeded. And don't forget his articles on MCULocationScout.com for some great, interactive maps of filming locations.    Enjoy Movies, Pardner! Did you know that Westerns have been around since 1899? That's practically the Old West anyway. (Maybe they were just called movies back then) The famous Great Train Robbery (1903) may not have been the first, but it helped secure the genre as a main staple in Hollywood forever.    When we were growing up, a lot of the classics were played on TV. That's where we saw great flicks like The Magnificent Seven (1960) and Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). Clint Eastwood established himself as a very tough cowboy in the Spaghetti Westerns by Sergio Leone. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (1966) especially has some legendary scenes.    John Wayne really epitomized the cowboy image in a ton of movies. The Searchers (1956) didn't paint a very good picture of the Native Americans, but director John Ford established some incredible vistas that movie makers still use to set the scene today. And True Grit (1969) won him an academy award for the part of Rooster Cogburn. A role that would be reprised in 2010 by Jeff Bridges in the remake.    The 80s and 90s were no slouches when it came to Westerns either. The success of movies like Silverado (1985) brought forth a resurgence of the genre. Young Guns (1988) and Tombstone (1993) helped young stars make their mark and build some strong careers.    But they weren't all just straight Westerns. Some were hysterical, like Blazing Saddles (1974) or Three Amigos (1986). Or they may have Sci-Fi elements in them like Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann (1982) or Back to the Future III (1990).    Plus, it was a genre that could be easily played out on TV. Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Big Valley, and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. were going strong for years. The Westerns audience was built up by early stories of The Lone Ranger, Davy Crockett, and Daniel Boone.    Historically accurate or not, Westerns give storytellers the opportunity to tell some morality tales and establish some very interesting characters.    Do you like any Westerns? Would you wear a white hat or a black hat? Are you reading all the show notes? First person that emails me with the subject line, “There's a snake in my boot!” will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know. To infinity and… beyond? For the first time ever, we got a completely new take on the beloved character Buzz Lightyear in Disney and Pixar's ‘Lightyear.' This Buzz really is the Buzz Lightyear, the super space ranger that inspired Andy way back in 1995 to ask for a Buzz Lightyear action figure (and the sheets and curtains to go with it). It's a bold though somewhat obvious idea for a Toy Story spin-off but none of that matters unless the movie is a home run. In this Lightyear review, we get into all of the details including how it ties back to the original Toy Story series and whether or not this should be considered a success both as a film and a business decision for Disney.   Thanks for listening!   Please rate, review, and subscribe if you liked this episode!   Chat with us on Discord: https://discord.gg/7wGQ4AARWn Follow us on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/popcornforbreakfast Subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeVJZwPMrr3_2p171MCP1RQ Follow us on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4HhMxftbuf1oPn10DxPLib?si=2l8dmt0nTcyE7eOwtHrjlw&nd=1 Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/popcorn4breakfast Follow us on Twitter: @pfb_podcast Follow us on Instagram: @pfb_podcast Follow us on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@popcornforbreakfast? popcorn4breakfast.com Email us: contact@popcorn4breakfast.com   Our original music is by Rhetoric, check them out on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/44JvjuUomvPdSqZRxxz2Tk?si=hcYoSMLUQ0iPctllftAg2g&nd=1   Additional sounds from https://www.zapsplat.com

They spoke during the release of his 2016 memoir “No Dream is Too High: Life Lessons from a Man Who Walked on the Moon.” You'll even hear him quote the famous "Toy Story" movie line, “To infinity and beyond!"

Good Luck To You, Leo Grande is a fantastic new British movie that sees Dame Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack spend a lot of time together in a hotel room. So that's exactly what we made them do again this week, with Ella Kemp (making her Empire Podcast debut) talking to the stars of Sophie Hyde's movie about an ageing woman who, having had very few positive sexual experiences, hires a sex worker (McCormack), and complications ensue. The film is frank, funny, and insightful, and their chat with Ella is similarly so, featuring Dame Emma's reminiscences about The Tall Guy, and one of the best answers we've ever had on the podcast. Hint: it features an Oscar. Then, in the podbooth this week, Chris Hewitt is joined by James Dyer and, for the first time in ages, Helen O'Hara, and truth be told, being reunited makes them go a little doolally. So, in-between answering a listener question about the film sets they've accidentally stumbled upon in a non-professional capacity, they talk about Helen's Wikipedia page, and Chris and Helen educate James about the history of the Giant's Causeway. They also discuss actual films at some point, including the week's movie news, including Lady Gaga possibly joining Joker 2 (which may be a musical???), the announcement of the Paddington 3 director, and their feelings about the official title of Knives Out 2: Benoit Boogaloo. In the reviews section, they run their eye over Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, Spiderhead, Everything Went Fine, and Last Seen Alive, and Sophie Butcher goes to infinity and beyond to help everyone get to grips with Pixar's Lightyear. Enjoy. TIMESTAMPS! (timings are approx.) Today on the show, we welcome screenwriter-director Angus MacLane! Angus has now worked at Pixar for over 20 years. He was involved as an animator in films like A Bug's Life (1998), Toy Story 2 (1999), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), The Incredibles (2004), Cars (2006), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008), Up (2009), Toy Story 3 (2010) and many more. After co-directing Finding Dory (2016), Angus is about to release his debut feature film, Pixar's Lightyear. Our hosts, Giles Alderson and Dom Lenoir, sat down with Angus to talk with him about his filmmaking journey: He discusses the films that inspired him, how he started working at Pixar, what the industry was like back then, and how he slowly climbed the ranks at Pixar. He obviously talks all about Lightyear, how it came about, the emotional core of the film, the importance of collaboration, tone, and why you need to be an expert on the genre you're working in. Angus gives a lot of great insight into the job as a director, which also applies to live-action directors. Sit back, relax and enjoy this week's episode with Angus MacLane.   LIGHTYEAR is out on the 17th of June!
