Send us a textIn this lively episode of the podcast, Scott and Chasity kick things off by showing their new merch from American Fire Brigade, known for their popular fire service merchandise and memorable memes that helped firefighters cope during COVID-19. (@americanfirebrigade). The duo shares personal stories about fire service culture, including a fascinating discussion about "coffee table culture" - the unique morning ritual where firefighters gather to exchange information and engage in witty banter. The conversation takes a serious turn as they discuss recent cases, including Scott's first trial in 26 years of investigations and a challenging fatality fire they both worked on. They explore the complex dynamics of public and private fire investigators working together, emphasizing the importance of maintaining professional relationships and preserving scene integrity. A particularly poignant discussion emerges about how people react differently in emergency situations, illustrated by stories of a resident who ran upstairs instead of outside during a fire, and a veteran medic who panicked when his own son had a seizure. The episode wraps up with an extensive "We Train Frequently" segment, highlighting numerous upcoming training opportunities across the country. Most notably, they announce their exciting plans to conduct live podcast recordings at the upcoming IAAI ITC conference in Atlantic City, where they hope to interview international investigators, students, instructors, and capture the presidential transition. Hey everybody, I'm Greg Sowell and this is Why Am I, a podcast where I talk to interesting people and try to trace a path to where they find themselves today. My guest this go around is Andy Kay. This individual is one of LA's finest Private Investigators, but he may not be what you expect. Not only does he travels the world helping his clients, but he also takes certain cases very personal…much the way I think I might. After everything he's done and seen, I figured he'd be pretty jaded, and while he does have a healthy dose of skepticism, he still sees the good in the world, and it seems he tries to embody that good himself. I hope you enjoy this chat with Andy.Help us grow by sharing with someone, like, subscribe! Please show them some love on their socials here: https://kayandassociates.com/https://www.facebook.com/kayandainvestigations/https://www.instagram.com/KAinvestigates/Find more info at http://whyamipod.com.If you want to support the podcast you can do so via https://www.patreon.com/whyamipod (this gives you access to bonus content like the Fantasy Restaurant!)

From The Vault:Private Investigators and Dealmakers are Teaming up More Often than Ever!We covered an unusual topic in this episode, that we learned wasn't so unusual afterall. Private investigations within the M&A space. As buyers and sellers become more leary of the trustworthiness between them during dealmaking, the advisory team is completing the circle of trust by having what they disclose verified. Our guest today is Tom Jaeb, Founder and Managing Director of JR Risk Advisors. Tom's background in private investigations goes back to working with his brother's PI firm in 1993. When that firm sold, he and his brother took a year off to honor the Non Compete and then launched J2 Risk Advisors. This time around, their sole focus is on M&A transactions, being hired by PE firms, Investment Bankers, and others in the Dealmaking space. They verify all kinds of information that has been disclosed, and watch for red flags in areas that could be missed by the untrained eye. You'd think that a credit report, courthouse search, and online search would bring up enough to make a case for or against a deal going through, but J2 digs deeper. They conduct research that examines the Press, Social Media, College Degrees, and other background sources as well.Tom says that most deals are free of 'red flag' items that would derail a transaction. However, he said that each search uncovers things that weren't necessarily discussed or disclosed, simply because the buyer or seller didn't think it was relevant. Say for instance a lawsuit settlement that the company was a party to 10 years ago. The key to deciding whether research and analysis are necessary is to determine if there are patterns of behavior or isolated incidents. When it's a pattern, it's a red flag, but if it's something that happened once many years ago, they're not going to be as concerned.Tom shared some intriguing client stories that you will find surprising! He said that Private Investigations during the dealmaking stages are more common than you think. The point about trustworthiness can be carried over from little things to big things; it's then up to the buyer or seller to decide whether to move forward.Listen to the episode here!Connect with Julie Keyes, Keyestrategies LLCFounder, Consultant, Author, Pod-caster and Instructor

I'd learned how to tap phone lines and bug hotel rooms. I worked as a CIA contract operative, and went undercover for the FBI, infiltrating The Gambino crime family. As an illegal PI, I straddled both sides of the fence. From the glamour of Hollywood, to the sleazy underbelly of LA's vices.
