Rahul Vohra is the founder and CEO of Superhuman. Prior to Superhuman, Rahul founded Rapportive, the first Gmail plug-in to scale to millions of users, which he sold to LinkedIn in 2012. He is also a prominent angel investor, and his fund has invested $50 million in over 120 companies, including Placer, Supabase, Mercury, Zip, ClassDojo, and Writer. What you'll learn:• The unexpected insight about virality Rahul gained from LinkedIn's head of growth.• Why Rahul restructured his entire executive team to spend 60% to 70% of his time on product, design, and marketing instead of the typical CEO responsibilities.• The counterintuitive approach to finding product-market fit using a methodical system inspired by Sean Ellis, and how this algorithmically determines your roadmap.• How manually onboarding every user (Superhuman had 20 full-time people doing this at peak) created superfans and allowed engineers to focus on product rather than onboarding flows.• The “Single Decisive Reason” framework for making better decisions by avoiding collections of weak justifications.• How Superhuman's AI features have evolved to create a truly intelligent email experience that works while Pour ce nouvel épisode je reçois Alexis Fogel Après avec co-fondé il y a 10 ans Dashlane, la célèbre solution de gestion de mots de passe, Alexis a monté Stonly avec deux associés, un SaaS qui permet de créer des guides interactifs. Today’s episode represents a new chapter for Invest Like the Best, so requires a longer introduction than normal. Starting today, I’ll be bringing you two episodes per week on the same feed. On Tuesday’s, I’ll focus on investors, and on Thursday’s, I’ll host builders—founders, CEOs, and operators from all different fields. We call this new Thursday series Founder’s Field Guide. There’s nothing more interesting to me than how great businesses get build, and how investors can identify those businesses at the right time. We’ve already recorded with founders build companies in food, technology, infrastructure, shipping, collectibles, and many more categories. The goal each weak will be to have a builder share what they’ve done, how they’ve done it, and what they’ve learned along the way. We view this as a critical next step in furthering our mission: to capture and openly share the world’s best knowledge on business and investing. Onto the kickoff episode with Rahul Vohra. Rahul is the Founder & CEO of Superhuman, an extremely popular product for managing email. Rahul describes himself as a Computer Scientist, Gamer, Entrepreneur, and Designer. You’ll see quickly why it’s the intersection of these areas that sets Superhuman apart. We discuss why emotion matters when building products, and how other entrepreneurs can learn from his experience. Please enjoy the very first episode of Founder’s Field Guide, and stay tuned in future weeks as we host leaders from Nike, Cisco, Twitch, and so many more…listen in as we explore the world of cannabis, baking (not that kind), manufacturing, hardware, software, and more. Let’s dive in.   This episode is brought to you by Microsoft for Startups. Microsoft for Startups is a global program dedicated to helping “enterprise-ready” B2B startups successfully scale their companies. If you’re a founder running a B2B company targeting the enterprise, you should definitely check them out.    This episode is also sponsored by Vanta.  Vanta has built software that makes it easier to both get and maintain your SOC 2 report, at a fraction of the normal cost. Founders Field Guide listeners can redeem a $1k off coupon at vanta.com/patrick.    For more episodes go to InvestorFieldGuide.com/podcast. Why you have to check out today’s podcast:  Find out how subscription-based pricing works for software B2B companies  Discover the metrics and criteria you need to track your SaaS subscription business   Know the pros and cons of feature-based pricing model for SaaS  Ryan Glushkoff founded Fraction8, a consulting firm focused on delivering pricing and product marketing expertise for business to business (B2B) software companies.  He worked in the software industry for a massive 20 years and has relevant experience in both pre-sales and post-sales for the mass-market and custom-enterprise type of software companies.  These opportunities gave him an advantage in understanding how SaaS (software as a service) companies need to position, price, and market themselves for success.  He was a student of Mark who took the first Price class in his Pragmatic Marketing course.  In this episode, Ryan shares the foundations of his career in pricing and his exposure in the B2B software market which paved the way of starting his consulting firm catering to the same market.  His insights into the evolution of pricing, risks in changing the pricing structure, and the concept of feature-based pricing model.   Get an in-depth explanation of the pricing metrics of subscriptions – the three essential criteria and the process of identifying the appropriate metrics for customers.   “Talk to your market, whether that be your customers, your prospects, your churn customers or your white space prospects that you’ve never spoken with before in your town. Get out there and talk to them because there is no substitute for hearing from them firsthand.” – Ryan Glushkoff   Stay updated on all thing pricing. You got to be good with numbers of course because it is pricing after all, but you have to also be very good at discerning behavioral patterns that you are not easily visible in the market.”– Ryan Glushkoff  “Subscription pricing means that you as the buyer agree to pay a fee in perpetuity or at least until the end of your contract term in exchange for a product or services that are rendered to you.  (While) Non-Subscription pricing means that you're obligated to pay only once, or at least according to the payment terms of your contract.”– Ryan Glushkoff  “How the customer pays do not necessarily have to align with the value derived. Although I would submit to you that it works out better economically for the vendor if the pricing is aligned to the value created by the product per surface. And that's the whole value metric side and software subscription.”– Ryan Glushkoff  “You have to be careful with customers though because a paying customer is better than a churned customer even if they aren't as profitable as you'd like them to be.” – Ryan Glushkoff    Resources Mentioned:  Monetizing Innovation: How Smart Companies Design the Product Around the Price    Connect with Ryan Glushkoff:  fraction8.io  LinkedIn  Twitter    Connect with Mark Stiving Email: mark@impactpricing.com  LinkedIn  Twitter
