Hello, and welcome to episode 160 of the Financial Crime Weekly Podcast, I'm Chris Kirkbride. In this week's episode, we look at fresh developments in sanctions enforcement, money laundering crackdowns, and fraud investigations. The UK government is pressuring Roman Abramovich over £2.5 billion in frozen funds from Chelsea FC's sale, while OFAC targets Guyanese and Colombian drug traffickers using narco-subs and secret airstrips. We explore how Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) are strengthening financial crime investigations and discuss the European Commission's push to grey-list Monaco over lingering AML deficiencies. Plus, AUSTRAC warns of AI-driven money laundering risks, and the EPPO takes down a €100 million VAT fraud network.A transcript of this podcast, with links to the stories, will be available by Monday at www.crimes.financial.

„Je pomocník pri dobrom spravovaní verejných financií, no právomoci zastaviť nejaké financovanie či „vymazať“ niektorú rozpočtovú položku nemá. Dáva nezávislý odborný pohľad na veci tým, ktorí o nich môžu rozhodnúť v europarlamente. Ak máme podozrenie alebo odhalíme spreneveru či nelegálne konanie, tak to ďalej riešia inštitúcie ako Európska prokuratúra (EPPO), Európsky úrad pre boj proti podvodom (OLAF) a podobne,“ uvádza pre TREND členka Európskeho dvora audítorov (EDA) Katarína Kaszasová. V rozhovore s Veronikou Vaňkovou vysvetľuje, aké právomoci má dvor audítorov a aké správy vydáva. One of the key challenges is how to train powerful models while being prudent stewards of our clients' essential business data, and how to do so while respecting the increasingly complex landscape of international data regulation. // Bio Katrina Ni Katrina is a Machine Learning Engineer in Slack ML Services Team where they build ML platforms and integrate ML, e.g. Recommend API, Spam Detection, across product functionalities. Prior to Slack, she is a Software Engineer in Tableau Explain Data Team where they build tools that utilize statistical models and propose possible explanations to help users inspect, uncover, and dig deeper into the viz. Aaron Maurer Aaron is a senior engineering manager in the infra organization at Slack, managing both the machine learning team and the real-time services team. In six years at Slack, most of which Aaron spent as an engineer, He worked on the search ranking, recommendation, spam detection, performance anomaly detection, and many other ML applications. Aaron is also an advisor to Eppo, an experimentation platform. Prior to Slack, Aaroon worked as a data scientist at Airbnb, earned a Masters in statistics at the University of Chicago, and helped develop econometric models projecting the Obamacare rollout at Acumen LLC. // MLOps Jobs board https://mlops.pallet.xyz/jobs // MLOps Swag/Merch https://mlops-community.myshopify.com/ // Related Links --------------- ✌️Connect With Us ✌️ ------------- Join our slack community: https://go.mlops.community/slack Follow us on Twitter: @mlopscommunity Sign up for the next meetup: https://go.mlops.community/register Catch all episodes, blogs, newsletters, and more: https://mlops.community/ Connect with Demetrios on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dpbrinkm/ Connect with Jake on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jakednoble/ Connect with Katrina on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/katrina-ni-660b2590/ Connect with Aaron on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aaron-maurer-4003b638/ Timestamps: [00:00] Aaron and Katrina's preferred coffee [00:41] Recommender and System and Jake [02:06] Takeaways [05:38] Introduction to Aaron Maurer & Katrina Ni [06:53] Aaron Maurer & Katrina Ni's Recommend API blog post [08:36] 10-pole machine learning use case and Rex's use case [10:14] Genesis of Slack's recommender system framework [11:47] The Special Sauce [12:58] Speaking the same language [15:23] Use case sources [17:08] Slack's feature engineering [17:52] Main CTR models [18:40] Data privacy [21:33] Slack's recommendations problem [22:09] Fine-tuning the generative models [23:30] Cold start problem [26:02] Underrated [28:24] Baseline [28:55] Cold sore space [30:15] LLMs in Production Conference Part 2 announcement! In this episode, Lieutenant Colonel Laura West, Solf-Warren Chair and Professor in the National Security Law Department (ADN) at The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School (TJAGLCS), interviews department colleague, Lieutenant Colonel Dan Maurer, about an emerging issue in National Security Law (NSL). LTC Maurer discusses the recently fielded “ePPO” app, a cell phone-accessible program that permits Ukrainian civilians to visually identify, locate, and track the trajectory of airborne threats like Russian drones, helicopters, and rockets. Given a State's duty to take feasible precautions and constant care to prevent or limit civilian collateral harms, LTC Maurer analyzes whether these conditions (a government actively providing the means or encouragement to engage in direct participation in hostilities (DPH)) trigger a legal duty on the State to warn its civilians of the legal consequences of their DPHing. The question is broader than the “ePPO” app itself, but the Ukrainian context provides a starting point for examining how modern technology pushes against the boundaries of conventional international law.

The term A/B testing gets thrown around a lot in startups, many use it to great effect, and some know they should use it, but never quite do. Our guest today is Chetan Sharma, Co-Founder and CEO of Eppo, a platform that helps companies run useful, reliable experiments by automating the analysis, diagnostics, and investigations, all on top of your data warehouse. We get into the power of A/B testing, how Eppo can unlock that power for startups of all sizes, and best practices for implementing them.About Chetan Sharma:Chetan Sharma is the Co-Founder and CEO of Eppo. Previously, he was Data Scientist at Webflow and Airbnb. Chetan worked in empirical healthcare policy, helping to craft metrics and incentive systems as part of the Affordable Care Act's pay-for-performance programs. He has BS and MS degrees from Stanford.A word from our sponsor:At Ripple, we manage all of our fund expenses and employee credit cards using Jeeves. The team at Jeeves helped get me and my team setup with physical and virtual credit cards in days. I was able to allow my teammates to expense items in multiple currencies allowing them to pay for anything, anywhere at anytime. We weren't asked for any personal guarantees or to pay any setup or monthly SaaS fees. Not only does Jeeves save us time, but they also give us cashback on our purchases including expenses like Google, Facebook, or AWS every month. New users can earn up to 3% cashback for their first 90 days. The best part is Jeeves puts up the cash, and you settle up once every 30 days in any currency you want, unlike some other corporate card companies that make you pre-pay every month. Jeeves also recently launched its Jeeves Growth and Working Capital initiative for startups and fast-growing companies to enable more financial freedom for companies. The best thing of all is that Jeeves is live in  24 countries including Canada, US and many other countries around the world.Jeeves truly offers the best all-in-one expense management corporate card program for all startups especially the ones at Ripple and we at Tank Talks could not be more excited to officially partner with them.
