On this week's episode we welcome Josh Garza of one of the most acclaimed rock bands of the 2000s, the SECRET MACHINES. The SECRET MACHINES helped define the sound of the era, along side contemporaries Interpol, Spiritualized, and TV on the Radio. Laden with sprawling arrangements occasionally pushing the 9 minute mark, Curtis and Garza have always been most comfortable with the term “space rock.” Josh gives us some insight on what it took to create their latest album "The Moth,The Lizard, And The Secret Machines." The album was a labor of love that took almost fourteen years to complete. Josh and dive deep into the world of noise rock and what it takes to be apart of something different. SECRET MACHINES - "The Moth, The Lizard, and The Secret Machines" OUT NOW!!!Thanks for listening!!! Please Follow us on Instagram @hiddentracks99
Having gone back and forth for over a decade to finish this album "The Moth, the Lizard, and The Secret Machines" we finally get to hear it. I got to speak to Brandon and Josh about this album, and the space and time between starting this effort, and it's release. We covered the headspace they were in, and the issues behind why the started it in the first place. (And how they came about finishing it, you also notice the use of the word "Space" there is a reason why). I have been a fan of theirs since pretty much the beginning, but that's cause I liked the bands these guys were in prior to this one. I referred to this album as their "Huck Finn" as the one piece that Twain couldn't let go, or finish, and it sat there bugging him for ages. This album was what Secret Machines wanted to do, and they did it on their terms, exactly how they wanted it, and it was worth everything they put into it. We covered their songwriting, history, and general rock band stories of being on the road with U2, and Spiritualized. Veteran musicians giving you some of their most introspective work, I give you "The Moth, The Lizard, and Secret Machines" Enjoy.Website facebook Twitter spotify instagram#secretmachines #trippingdaisy #kingsofleon #u2 #neworder #glastonbury #spiritualized #huckfinn #brianeno #shoegazing #gonzomusicjournalism #stickyjazzpodcast
Welcome back to the Rock 'n Roll Ghost Podcast. On this week's episode, the Ghost speaks with musician Brandon Curtis of rock band Secret Machines. Curtis discusses the band's new double EP, Dreaming of Dreaming and Day 21, as well as the September 23rd reissue of their s/t album. Curtis and Josh Garza remain the two sole members of the band after Curtis' brother, Benjamin Curtis left the band to form School of Seven Bells. Benjamin sadly passed away in 2013 and Brandon and I discuss having lost our brothers at an early age. Secret Machines is not currently set to tour, but Brandon has been a touring member of Interpol for years now, so you can see him on the road with them this fall. In this week's special Thanksgiving episode, Steve and Ian return to the Indiecast Hall Of Fame. In case you don't recall, the honor was designed to honor albums in the indie rock and alternative rock realm that were influential and beloved at the time of their release, but have since been lost to the test of time and sadly — some might say shamefully — left out of the widely accepted canon of the genre. After paying tribute in past episodes to albums by Counting Crows, The Promise Ring, Saves The Day, Secret Machines, and many more, Steve and Ian are now turning their attention to albums from Jane's Addiction, Robbie Robertson, The Stills, and The Jealous Sound. In this week's Recommendation Corner, Ian is vibing with Frailty, the new album from dltzk that is the first digicore album he's ever really liked. Steve is enjoying Highway Butterfly's The Songs Of Neal Casal. You can submit questions for Steve and Ian at indiecastmailbag@gmail.com, and make sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for all the latest news.

Secret Machines - Everything Starts
Welcome to the premiere issue of The Bottom Forty Podcast™. I recently caught up with Brandon Curtis who is a founding member of the band Secret Machines. It was the first time we've spoken since we were both living in Williamsburg, Brooklyn two decades ago. We discussed the band's first album in 12 years 'Awake In The Brain Chamber', the passing of his brother/bandmate Benjamin in 2013 who plays an important role on the new album, how a member of Pink Floyd's crew had an impact on the signature Secret Machines sound, meeting David Bowie and more. We'll also listen to a few tracks from the new LP along the way. Thanks for turning on, tuning in and dropping by! -Greg Glover/Portland, OR Email: thebottomforty@gmail.com Support The Bottom Forty: https://anchor.fm/thebottomforty/support --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thebottomforty/support

This month is the 15th anniversary of Logic Will Break Your Heart, the debut album by Montreal quartet The Stills, one of many scruffy, post-punk bands that followed in the wake of the Strokes in the early '00s. For a while, any band that sort of looked like the Strokes or sort of sounded like the Strokes had a shot at a major-label record deal. Many of those bands are now forgotten, but there are a handful of groups, like the Stills, that had at least one really good album in them. In this episode, critic Ian Cohen joins Steve in remembering some of those post-Strokes bands, including Secret Machines, Longwave, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Hot Hot Heat, and The Bravery.
How "credible" does an eye-witness have to be before their account of an Unidentified Flying Object is taken seriously? Whom would you think is the most credible sort of witness for this type of impossible craft, aside from the beings or forces that made them? How about an elite jet fighter pilot from the US Navy, highly trained to identify every known aerial threat – known to a conventional military, of course. Tonight, we sit down again for Part Two with our friend Rob Kristofferson, from the Our Strange Skies podcast to discuss in detail the eye-witness report and related consequences of David Fravor, USN Ret., former Commanding Officer of Fighter Squadron VFA-41, who along with his Weapons Systems Officer Lt. Cmdr. Jim Slaight engaged a target that behaved like nothing they could imagine. After hearing about Fravor's account, you just might start to believe that "Secret Machines" do indeed exist... and your next thought will be, "...well then, who, or what is controlling them?" Get ready for some "Soft Disclosure" everyone. Visit our website for a lot more information on this episode: http://www.astonishinglegends.com/al-podcasts/2018/1/21/ep-95-imminent-disclosure-part-2
Too often people assume that those of us in the field of music recording had a distinct idea of what we wanted to do when we started. The truth is almost always that it's a wild and unpredictable path we end up on. Vance Powell is a perfect example. His work has earned him three Grammy awards (Jars of Clay, Buddy Guy, and The Raconteurs). Along the way he's recorded with a wide variety of artists, including Keb' Mo', Martina McBride, The Secret Machines, Karen Elson and of course Jack White. Larry Crane ran around Nashville on a crazy tour with Vance for 11 hours one day and, near the end, they sat down to chat. Find out how Rodrigo y Gabriela went from headbanging in Mexico to busking in Dublin to headlining festivals around the world. Plus, Jim and Greg remember Phil Everly and Benjamin Curtis of Secret Machines.
For their latest episode of errant gunfire, Nocando and Jeff welcome Zilla Rocca, Curly Castro, and Prem Rock for a discussion on Philadelphia hip-hop, noir-rap, their "otherground collective" and the occasional reggaeton digression. In addition, Nocando and Jeff talk about what they did for New Year's and pour out a little hummus for James Avery of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and Benjamin Curtis of The Secret Machines. Recorded at the Cosmic Zoo Studio in Atwater Village.

Of course, if you want to hear more of the hockey talk, check out The Crazy Canucks. In this episode, we talk about the Northern Voice conference and try to make our case to the organizers of the event as to why we deserve one of the travel bursaries to attend the event. We also talk about Rebecca’s upcoming involvement with the Amazing Hunt in Vancouver. Matthew Good has a new album that he’s recording, and your dear hosts have a few other tidbits to share in that area. [Show Notes Link]Direct Download Link | | Direct download link It’s been a while since we’ve done a recording while driving around Vancouver, but having access to a car is a rare opportunity. With minidisc and mini-lapel mic, this episode ends up being a little long. The storms that plagued the lower mainland have caused problems with Vancouver’s water supply, so we highlight some of the issues. In fact, it’s a topic that takes over most of this podcast. Amazing that we can talk about water so much. We also cover how we celebrated American Thanksgiving here in Canada, my first time ice skating in Vancouver, and announce our upcoming interview with Wintersleep from Halifax, Nova Scotia. They will be playing at The Plaza Club on Dec. 2nd, and we will be there for a quick interview with the band. [Show Notes Link]Direct Download Link | | Direct download link We’ve been really busy lately, and that has delayed getting this episode out. Rebecca and I took time to record something last night and post it this morning. Rebecca’s really come on board with the podcast, and I highlight some of her awesomeness. In fact, she has secured yet another interview opportunity with a band coming to Vancouver, so we make that announcement as well as discuss the new avenues that RadioZoom is exploring. Being part two of my one year anniversary in Vancouver, we can’t get through this episode without doing some Vancouver Trivia, no matter how much Ubercaster messes up on us. I have to say, I’m really amazed with how much I have learned about this city in the past year. We also take a moment to get to some feedback that we’ve received from listeners. Be sure to check out the ever changing website for RadioZoom. The “RZ Blog” has been added and will feature updates about the podcast. Also check out the “Episode Archive” to see a list of every episode of the podcast that is available.
