In this episode, I introduce you to Heather S. She is a mental health counselor who is married and mom to 5 children. They have their own little “farm” they call home. Heather was in a hard season of life when she heard Sara Dean interviewing me on the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast and I was talking about the Sunday Basket®. Heather was a grad student, her dad was ill and Heather was his primary caregiver, not to mention she had a 21/2 year old at the time. Her brain felt very busy and she thought the Sunday Basket® could help. Heather believes that planning and organization is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves.  Sometimes, as women, it seems as though we are expected to know how to keep a house.  It's ok if you don't know how and you need to hire someone or purchase a course to teach you. We both agreed that organization is self care! There's one component of being a household manager that negatively impacts a person and it's the emotional. It's based on how well we think we are at the managerial and cognitive pieces of running the home. And there's a lot of negative internal chatter about it! The Sunday Basket® quiets those comments.  Heather had been successfully using a DIY Sunday Basket® with her large family, so Heather and her husband agreed to invest in the Organize 365® Sunday Basket to get additional support. She shared about how she does Christmas. She shared her hacks on how not have to wrap presents the night before, how she makes her kids lists, and how to not overspending! And wait till she explains her sick box, genius solutions!  And since that was such a success, it made sense to invest in the old All Access program to get their house in order to sell. It made $20,000 in sense! Once they decluttered and met with their realtor again, they added $20,000 to the selling value of their home by just painting and decluttering! Then they moved, Heather got her Masters, added some dogs, and a child!!  The last half of our conversation was about Embrace, currently the self-guided retreat until I am done with the PhD. She pointed out how important it is to do the journaling and coming to terms with your past. Through journaling we can all notice what we say to ourselves, the lies we tell ourselves, and look at what we wrote to decide if it's true. We can journal to explore what we want. And specifically with Embrace, it made so much sense to Heather because she's done that hard work of journaling and reflecting. And there is are many scientific benefits of pen to paper. The reality is you can't get to “What is my unique purpose and how can I share it?” until you have accepted that you are worthy and have great value to give.  She lost her father shortly after having her 5th child. How does one grieve and celebrate a new life at the same time? Heather had to use her planning and journaling skills to work through that grief while still taking care of her family the way she wanted to.  She scheduled her grieving time and you may need to do the same. Take the time to process your past to get to the place where you can feel worthy of organization. You can then realize you have so much to offer this world. And finally with embrace, explore how you can impact the world with your unique gifts and talents. Heather has this great 6 step art therapy journal prompting process that she takes her clients through.  She really shared a lot about the process and I believe so many people would benefit from doing the internal work before diving into Embrace. We are all worthy and valuable.  Heather's advice is, “We need to start with the internal work. Sitting and taking time to do the internal work first will let you stay motivated and on track to do what you need to do.”  Heather shared her desire to do so in collaboration with Organize 365® someday.  If you liked Heather and her ideas, you DON'T want to miss the next Coffee Chat!!  EPISODE RESOURCES: Embrace Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter  On the Wednesday podcast, I get to talk with members of the Organize 365® community as they share the challenges, progress, missteps and triumphs along their organizing journey. You probably noticed by the title that this episode just came out the other day, but I'm re-releasing it again because it's guided by my very good friend, Sara Dean, and I did not give her the proper introduction she deserves. So, it's here for you again. But first, a bit about Sara. Sara Dean is the host of the Shameless Mom Academy podcast. She is such an advocate for mamas living their best lives and really getting real about what this job of motherhood is actually about - the highs, the lows...everything. And ultimately, she just wants each of us mamas to be boldly ourselves. Go subscribe to her podcast right now! https://shamelessmom.com/ The reason this meditation is so special is because Sara's not a meditation guide. She's just so passionate about helping mamas live intentional lives! So, I reached out to her to ask if she would create something special for you...and she did! It's gorgeous and I hope you love it as much as I do. Love,

High-achieving women who struggle with alcohol are often smart, hard working and struggle with trusting in their own worth, instincts and decisions.  If this is you, you're probably extremely capable but live with insecurity, a healthy fear of failure and a loud inner-critic.  You might look to your boss, partner, parents or friends for approval and validation of your work.  You might have a hard time drawing boundaries or feel like you can never relax because you could be doing more. And you might drink to quiet the constant chatter in your mind. Before I stopped drinking I identified as a people-pleaser and an overachiever who lived with a somewhat constant fear of failure, a need for approval and a lot of self doubt.  I started relying on wine to turn off my busy mind, let me relax and quiet my insecurities.  But ironically, once I started drinking to cope it became even harder to trust my choices, feel confident and capable. I asked my friend Sara Dean, a business and leadership coach and the host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, to help us understand why women lose self-trust and how to get it back. 3 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. My proven, step-by-step sober coaching program will teach you exactly how to stop drinking — and how to make it the best decision of your life. Which working mom do you know who has it all together? I can't think of anyone. Oh wait…why don't we ask the same question about dads? Why aren't they called working dads? Being a parent is an incredibly fulfilling experience, but it comes with a heck of a lot of challenges, none of which you can ever be fully prepared to face. But the truth is working moms face different challenges, not just in their homes, but also, especially in the workplace. Gender bias, ageism, imposter syndrome, and psychological safety are just some of the issues we have to combat each day. What gives? Fortunately, we have someone with me today to provide tips on navigating these complex issues. Sara Dean is a Mindset, Business, and Leadership Coach for Moms. She is the host of The Shameless Mom Academy Podcast. This podcast covers everything from overcoming mom overwhelm to being an advocate and ally in your community. And this episode is not just for moms, but any parent who works outside of the home.Join us in this candid and energetic conversation. We might be having a good laugh while talking, but believe me, we are taking these mommy and daddy issues very seriously!"You're breaking down trust when you say it's safe, and then you continually prove that it's not. If you've been hanging out with me for any length of time, you are likely a person who gives a shit about growing and developing and becoming the person you truly want to be. But, what does that actually look like? What does it really mean to actively work toward a more evolved version of yourself? What if you are so stuck in a cycle of working, taking care of everyone else, putting out fires, rinse, repeat and have no idea what you actually enjoy or really want? It can be so easy to get into a tornado of a career/work life and forget what you even like to do for fun. Or maybe you threw yourself into raising children and in between diaper changes and college tours, you forgot what you're really passionate about. It's not uncommon to get to a place in your life where you feel like your entire identity is wrapped up in one major area of your life. It's an important topic especially in light of last week's conversation about imposter syndrome.  Notables: Women have historically tried to shrink their bodies which carries over to their minds.  Sara's goal is the opposite; to help women take up space We ask for permission partly because it has been modeled that way - women have been trained to ask for permission before we allow ourselves to do things Own your superpower: Be really clear about what we're good at. Say it out loud. How do you identify your superpower? It's often what we're naturally good at, what feels easy to us. It's okay to pick the easy thing, Give yourself permission to not be good at everything. For moms who are raising boys: What do we do to help them support strong girls and women? So many moms struggle with their identity after having kids, and not many know what to do with that shift. It comes with a shift in values, purpose, and time, and many moms get stuck in a spiral of not knowing who they are and how to align with the various roles they have in their life. In this episode, I talk with Sara Dean, who is host of the well known podcast Shameless Mom Academy, about her journey into finding her balance, personally and professionally. What started as a career in the fitness industry, Sara pivoted to podcasting and coaching, in which she went from guiding women how to get smaller, to supporting them in living fully, unapologetically taking up space and learning to create the life they want to be living. We cover everything from identity struggle, parenting during Covid, overcoming the shame narrative, and the harsh reality of time flying. If you're mom, this episode is for you.   About Sara: Sara Dean is mindset, business and leadership coach. Caregivers in general, be they moms, dads or those caring for elder parents, are struggling at work right now in very specific ways. What can workplaces do to support them and see things from their point of view? Empathy combined with action will ensure you don't lose top talent, but instead enable them to thrive and help your company succeed.Today I have the utter joy to talk with Sara Dean, who knows a thing or two about moms and the many hats they wear at work and home. We talk about where exactly empathy is lacking for caregivers and what workplaces can do to better adapt and support them. Then, we switch gears to discuss the best ways to teach your kids empathy and share our personal journeys with our own kids so they can learn to appreciate and celebrate differences. Key Takeaways: If the Corporate world gave all parents permission to be the default parent, we would better understand that everyone needs certain exceptions during certain seasons of their life and it would no longer be looked at unkindly or as weird when a mom needs to feed a baby during a meeting. While workplaces are getting better because of the increased focus on DEI, corporations still need to look at the other identities that are carried by the people in their organization, visible or invisible, that they need to be making space for. There are ways to discuss race with children, as young as 2 or 3, that are age appropriate and healthy. These small conversations will lead to children being inquisitive and wondering what it's like to live someone else's experiences and lead with empathy.  "We are all caretaking in really big ways right now. It ‘s important that we recognize the toll that it takes, and then create space for everyone's ‘One disappointment away from breaking.'" —  Sara Dean About Sara Dean, Creator and Host, Shameless Mom Academy PodcastSara Dean is a mindset, business and leadership coach.  She is also the creator and host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, a top rated podcast with almost 4 million downloads.  Sara's biggest passion is helping women own their space.  After enduring her own identity crisis following the birth of her son, Sara took her background in psychology/health/ wellness and rebuilt her identity, one step at a time.  Sara motivates and inspires women to stop shrinking and start shining.  She is on a mission to inspire women and moms, in particular, to live bigger, bolder, braver #everydamnday.Sara serves women through her podcast, her thriving Momentum Mamas membership community, her Tenacious Mamas business & leadership mastermind and her annual event, Shameless Mom Con (coming this spring!)  When she's not supporting Shameless Moms, you'll find Sara with her husband and 8 year old son - building Legos and pretending to understand Minecraft. Connect with Sara Dean:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shamelessmom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/115233012688776Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/shamelessmomacademy/Podcast: https://shamelessmom.com/ THANK YOU TO THIS EPISODE'S SPONSOR: HOPE TIMBERLAKEOur guest today is all about helping women shine. While so many are hitting the ‘pandemic wall’ these days, I want to bring you all some joy today by sharing my interview with just an amazing individual who I met a few years ago, and whose beliefs and approach so closely align with my own. Sara Dean, creator and host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, has a passion for helping women own their space, and is on a mission to inspire women, and moms in particular, to live bigger, bolder, and braver everyday. Through her various platforms, Sara motivates and inspires women to stop shrinking and start shining in every aspect of their lives (sound familiar?), and today she joins me to talk about her remarkable life and work. She starts by updating us on how she is doing these days, and then relates the story of her journey through her businesses to where she is now, and what she will be carrying forward into this new year. Along the way, she discusses how her core values and her goals in helping women have shaped and shifted her business, the impact of women leaving the workforce during the pandemic and her hope for them to start their own businesses, and the struggles she finds most common among her clients. We’ll also explore the most significant steps she took in taking up space, how she has changed over the years, and our Enneagram results and the role they can play in our lives. I know that you will agree with me that Sara Dean is one freaking awesome badass who is paving her own way and doing amazing things to help women to really find their power – precisely what we all need as we put 2020 behind us and move through this ‘ultramarathon’ together. Her biggest passion is helping women own their space.  After enduring a long infertility journey, and then a full blown identity crises following the birth of her son, Sara took her background in psychology/health/ wellness and rebuilt her identity – one step at a time. Today, Sara motivates and inspires women to stop shrinking and start growing in every aspect of their lives.  She is on a mission to inspire women and moms, in particular, to live bigger, bolder, braver #everydamnday. "I realized over time that I wanted to be having conversations about helping women take up space, rather than always trying to shrink in the space they existed in.” “Perfect is paralyzing.” “If you're in perfectionism, there's no momentum.” “We need to give ourselves permission to feel in big ways and to be vulnerable with those feelings.” “It's okay to cry, but suffering in silence is the most surefire way to destroy yourself.”   What you’ll hear in this episode: The role of mindset  Outcome versus process goals  Moms and worthiness Why perfect sucks Perfectionism, procrastination and high achieving women How perfectionism robs you of momentum Doing B- work The role of routine and structure Creating mental freedom Giving ourselves permission to feel Intuition and finding the lessons in the chaos Learning to sit in discomfort Finding gratitude in hard moments and hard phases The universality of challenges and trauma  Why women suffer in silence   What does Joyful Courage mean to you? So for me, joyful courage means finding joy in being uncomfortable. So I think about courage around, like, embracing discomfort and intentionally doing uncomfortable things. That, for me, is how I frame courage for myself. And last year, I made myself pickup skiing even though I'm terrified of heights and chairlifts, and speed and I think that chair lifts are like death traps. But I made myself take up skiing because we wanted my son to ski. And so I learned how to ski. And it took a ton of courage, pretty much didn't want to do it at all, ever, every time I went up to the mountain, but I also got up there every week and was like, “Oh my gosh, look how beautiful it is up here.” There were so many rewards from it. And I also had not pushed my body, as someone who's been in fitness for many years, I hadn't pushed my body in a new physical endeavor in a really long time. And I forgot how rewarding that was to find strength in something physical, something new that was physical. And so there was just all of these rewards that came out of it that I did not expect that had nothing to do with like, actually skiing down the mountain that became kind of like “Oh, cool. And I also get to ski down the mountain on top of all these other things.” So yeah, so I would say, finding the rewards in discomfort and then seeking that and then moving forward seeking more discomfort, which I'm, like, stubbornly seeking discomfort. In this week’s episode (Episode 16) of Supermom Rehab podcast, I get to speak with Sara Dean, creator and host of the Shameless Mom Academy podcast, about the divide that exist between black and white mothers and the historical legacy of mistrust that exists among many moms of color when they enter white mom spaces. There aren’t that many candid conversations between white and black moms that center specifically on race, and we speak on how moms of color can no longer give white moms a pass for not acknowledging their privilege and not using it to elevate, center and support the voices of moms of colors, which often get shut out of so many conversations. We spoke about how it is insufficient for white moms to be allies and how moms of color are waiting for  white moms to be proactive in becoming accomplices and dismantle the structures that perpetuate racism.   Some of the points that Sara and I discussed were: The importance for moms of color to have their own spaces and why white moms should respect those spaces. Sara’s personal story that opened her eyes and the need for moms of color to get comfortable with calling out white moms who aren’t practicing inclusivity Sara spoke about the need for white moms to be courageous enough to get uncomfortable and have conversations about race- and how silence is actually reinforcing structural racism. I discussed anxiety that many black mothers have when leaving their children in predominantly white spaces, such as schools. I also discussed how many black moms have valid suspicion when they enter spaces with white moms because many times their needs are marginalized or not included in conversations. Sara’s journey of how she is moving from allyship and how we as moms of color should demand for white moms to be proactive in becoming accomplices. I spoke about my privilege as a black doctor and how looking at how we want white moms to show up is helpful to think about how I need to show up for black moms who may not have the same privileges I have. Sara also talked about the power of social media to allow us to get more educated without putting the onus on those who are even more marginalized and to eliminate our desire to ask others to educate us. Managing work life and family life can be a challenge, and many moms end up giving up on their dreams or putting their own desires and interests on the back burner. My guest today, Sara Dean, knows all about this. Sara is the creator and host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, a top rated podcast rapidly approaching 1 million downloads. Sara's biggest passion is helping women own their space. After enduring her own identity crises following the birth of her son, Sara took her background in psychology/health/wellness and rebuilt her identity, one step at a time. Sara motivates and inspires women to stop shrinking and start growing. She is on a mission to inspire women and moms, in particular, to live bigger, bolder, braver #everydamnday. Sara shares some of her struggles as a mom early on, coming to grips with the way her life was changing, and creating a new story for herself and her own life. She had been running a successful gym, but as she struggled to live a bigger and bolder life and create her own space in this world, she felt in conflict with helping women to shrink their own bodies and take up less space. So, she sold her gym (using curiosity to fuel this transition) and launched The Shameless Mom Academy and The Shameless Mom Academy podcast and began helping women “live bigger, bolder, braver every damn day.” Sara says that a shameless mom is unapologetic, gracious, and tenacious. She makes space for herself, not by asking for permission but by having confidence around her needs, being vocal about her needs, and taking radical responsibility for building a life that makes her happy. She gives practical suggestions for how one can create space in one's daily routine, and how one can start the day proactively instead of reactively. Sara addresses -- and challenges -- some of the common assumptions about mothers and fathers and how they manage their lives and schedules and families, and provides a framework for helping moms feel comfortable with their choices to create space for themselves and for their own interests and passions. She also offers suggestions for alleviating anxiety and building confidence. When Sara and I met through a mutual friend, as she interviewed me for her Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, the conversation flowed immediately. Sara was so honest, open, and generous. She shared her stories with heart and vulnerability, something I find to be very difficult for many.  She also went out of her way to share her podcasting wisdom with me, to guide me as I launched this show. That woman-to-woman support is priceless, and one of my favorite things about creating this podcast… meeting amazing women who want to support each other, and the broader community, to shine brightly. Enjoy this real, raw, “naked” conversation with Sara Dean.  Email me at support@sagebhobbs.com or message me on Instagram @sagebhobbs to let me know your thoughts. We talk about: What it means to be shameless The body image continuum… from loathing to loving Her “fit-spiration” purge on social media The power of doing hard things Imposter syndrome and self-doubt Letting go of control More about Sara: Sara Dean is the creator and host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, which has been featured in 5 categories of iTunes New & Noteworthy for 2 years, and is rapidly approaching one million downloads. What is a shameless mom, and is it the same as being selfish (and is it really a "bad thing)? How can we (especially moms) change from habits of self-neglect to self-care, and how does the Shameless Mom thrive in her daily life? How is she helping her child to live shamelessly amid gender stereotypes? We go even deeper, exploring feminism, people-pleasing, needless apologies, giving ourselves permission, resolutions vs. goals, and priorities. It's one of the BEST episodes we ever published and I know if you're a mom, you'll love it. Sara Dean, our guest, is the creator and host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, which has been featured in 5 categories of iTunes New & Noteworthy for over a year now.
