As we step into the early weeks of the new year, we are still in a phase of recalibration, a continuation of December's themes of closure and reflection. This is a time for investigating where and how we spend our time and energy. Energetically, the start of this year can feel unhurried, emphasizing the importance of allowing ideas to percolate and ripen before anchoring them as concrete intentions and goals. The first part of this month encourages us to create space for this percolation, finding the courage to balance holding back for right timing with moving forward when the green light appears. Cultivating Courage for Transformation Courage is the key energy of the moment. It allows us to cut through fear and resistance, empowering us to move toward—or away from—a situation, intention, action, habit, or pattern. Courage challenges us to face hard truths, make necessary choices, and commit to those decisions, even when they may lead to discomfort, disappointment, or difficult consequences. It is the force that keeps us disciplined and helps us release what no longer serves us while stepping boldly into the unknown. Without courage, we risk falling into cowardice, an energy driven by fear. Cowardice manifests as anxiety, lethargy, stagnation, self-judgment, and negativity. This week—and this month—invite us to build and use courage as we navigate the opportunities and challenges that come with the new year. Building Courage, One Step at a Time Courage, like a muscle, needs to be cultivated and strengthened through consistent practice. Start small and build gradually, challenging yourself to lean into discomfort while trusting the process. Here are some areas where courage may be needed this week: • Facing hard truths: Acknowledge what needs to change or be addressed in your life. • Making and committing to difficult decisions: Choose what aligns with your highest good, even if it's uncomfortable. • Stepping out of your comfort zone: Begin something new that excites and challenges you. • Releasing attachments: Let go of relationships, habits, or patterns that are no longer beneficial. • Taking responsibility: Own your health, well-being, and personal growth. • Changing negative patterns: Break free from self-sabotaging cycles and habits. • Trusting divine timing: Exercise patience and faith in the right path unfolding. This is a pivotal time to stay proactive, present, and aware. By accessing courage, we can embrace new opportunities, bring closure to what is complete, and eliminate what is no longer useful. Courage enables us to face the year with clarity, resilience, and a deeper sense of purpose. A Personal Reflection: Navigating Courage and Rest Currently, I am navigating the challenge of being evacuated due to fires in Los Angeles, CA. This experience has deeply reinforced the relevance of the "Rest and Replenish" theme. Even in uncertainty, I've found it essential to pause and ground myself through intentional practices like breathwork and journaling. Connecting with loved ones for support and taking small actions to nurture emotional resilience have been key. This experience has reminded me that rest doesn't have to be grand. It can be as simple as a deep breath, a comforting word, or creating a moment of stillness in the chaos. If you're facing unexpected challenges, these micro-moments of rest can serve as anchors, helping you feel more centered and resilient. The Cancer Full Moon: Recalibration and Emotional Clearing On Monday, January 13. This moon invites us to reflect on home, family, and the environments that shape our comfort and habitual behaviors. Pay attention to the lessons surfacing in these areas, especially those related to family imprints or dynamics that may no longer serve you. This is an opportunity to align with new, supportive patterns that help you cultivate personal balance and direct your energy more intentionally. Much love, care, and gratitude, Henri

When we think of courage we often imagine a fierce energy. One that pushes obstacles aside, cuts through barriers and fights battles. But courage can have a gentle energy, too. Sometimes, courage can look and feel like steady, caring presence - especially during mindfulness meditation and the practice of feeling what we feel. In this guided meditation, led by Sean Fargo, we are invited to sense into this moment, just as it is. With courage, we practice staying with our experience, allowing it to change and unfold as it is naturally inclined to do.  Listen in a safe, quiet place where you can be relatively free from distraction. Practice with eyes opened or closed, in a posture that balances comfort with alertness. May this meditation be of benefit to you in your mindfulness journey. And I had a big mystery in mine, which was: Who is my father?"We hang on to so much from our past. Regret, remorse, guilt, shame, rumination, unforgiveness… How should we think about our past? Can we reframe and redeem it for the present?Developmental Psychologist William Damon has spent his career studying the human lifespan and for almost 30 years at Stanford University's Center on Adolescence. Since the 1970s, he's been conducting research that has shaped our understanding of human growth and thriving. He's the author of numerous research articles and several books, including The Path to Purpose: How Young People Find Their Calling in Life, having written widely on character virtues, the moral dimensions of work and vocation, and moral formation for children and adolescents, and more.In the last 20 years, William has systematically studied purpose and how to operationalized it for human thriving. He defines purpose as “an enduring life goal that is both meaningful to oneself, but also makes a difference beyond the self.”But more recently, he's building a new area of study around life review. His latest book is A Round of Golf with My Father: The New Psychology of Exploring Your Past to Make Peace with Your Present. in it, he articulates a process that he's developed for investigating and kind of interrogating your life and your past for clues about your direction and purpose.William shares vulnerably about his own discoveries regarding mystery and his own upbringing that has shed new light on the latest chapter in his life.In this conversation with William Damon, we discuss:Positive youth development and the opportunities of childhood and adolescence. The practice of a life review, and how to look at our past in ways that lead to a healthy and fruitful future. The definition of purpose and how it plays a central role in human thriving. And he explains how charting a path to purpose took a very personal turn for him when he came to learn about the father he never knew, and how that impacted his life and his perspective on thriving at 60 years old.In that context, we discuss the emotional connections between courage and curiosity, particularly when it comes to pursuing self-understanding and exploring our sense of purpose and a life of thriving.Show NotesGet your copy of William Damon's book, A Round of Golf with My Father: The New Psychology of Exploring Your Past to Make Peace with Your PresentRead about Bill Damon's approach to Life Review at the Greater Good Science Center at UC BerkeleyStanford - Center on Adolescence “How does where you've been contribute to where you're going? Easy choices, hard life. Hard choices, easy life. Paul Goldsmith delves into the complexities of making tough decisions and the importance of being true to yourself and your calling. Addressing the anxiety and uncertainty that often accompany difficult choices, Paul recommends focusing on what you truly want; rather than seeking external validation or trying to meet others' expectations. Paul emphasizes the distinction between making choices for personal fulfillment versus those made to impress others or keep up appearances. What is considered "normal" is not optimal, like accumulating debt or conforming to unhealthy lifestyles. Rethink these norms and choose paths that align with your true self. Live a life by design, using your unique talents and intentions to make meaningful contributions to the world. Have the courage to face discomfort and unpleasant emotions head-on. These moments are opportunities for growth, wisdom, and strength. Take time to write down your thoughts on a hard choice, and honestly assess what is holding you back from moving forward. True courage lies in making choices that reflect our authentic selves and in taking the next simple step toward our goals, no matter how daunting it may seem.

Brian chats with Elliot Greenberger, a new entrepreneur who recently pivoted from corporate leadership to business coaching. On the episode, Elliot opens up about how he felt stuck and drained before he started his business, even though he had a successful career and a fulfilling family life. He also shares the practical steps he took to launch his coaching firm and tips for creating an effective sales process that aligns with your business's mission. Episode Highlights Mission-driven businesses are born out of a sense of purpose. Every business has a purpose, whether the leaders of a company know it or not. But what defines a mission-driven business is that the company is born out of that sense of purpose, according to Elliot. "What sets a mission-driven business apart is that there's a specific kind of intentionality and specificity about the mission," Elliot said. "That mission literally drives the business." For Elliot's coaching business, the mission has evolved into teaching his clients how to be courageous. He writes a weekly newsletter called "On Courage" and is thinking about teaching courses or doing speaking on the subject. Align your sales process with your mission. A company's mission can't go very far without a sales process to support turning that mission into a reality. That's why creating a sales process that aligns with your business's mission and vision is one of the most important steps you can take, according to Elliot. "Having a process really allows me to keep my integrity as a coach," Elliot said. "It allows me to really focus on my mission and make sure I'm attracting clients and getting clients who support the work I want to do." Carve out time for self care. One of the benefits of being a business owner is being able to more easily carve out time in the day for self care. For Elliot, that sometimes looks like ending his day at 3 p.m. and going for a swim as a way to care for himself and do what's best for his business. "The way I pace my day not only helps me become a better person to those around me, it also helps my business," he said. "It helps me as a coach, and there's something that can be transmitted about that to the people that I work with." In Here's to Your Dreams!: A Teatime with Noah Book (written for ages 4-8, and releasing from Tommy Nelson on November 8), readers will follow along with Daddy and Noah as one of their beloved father-daughter tea parties magically transforms into a fantastical adventure. As Noah pursues her dream of becoming a sea captain, it's not all smooth sailing: she realizes she doesn't know how to be a captain and doesn't even have a ship! With each challenge and difficulty, Daddy gently guides Noah to ride the waves of life with courage… and to chart her own path.
