In this episode, I introduce you to Heather S. She is a mental health counselor who is married and mom to 5 children. They have their own little “farm” they call home. Heather was in a hard season of life when she heard Sara Dean interviewing me on the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast and I was talking about the Sunday Basket®. Heather was a grad student, her dad was ill and Heather was his primary caregiver, not to mention she had a 21/2 year old at the time. Her brain felt very busy and she thought the Sunday Basket® could help. Heather believes that planning and organization is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves. Sometimes, as women, it seems as though we are expected to know how to keep a house. It's ok if you don't know how and you need to hire someone or purchase a course to teach you. We both agreed that organization is self care! There's one component of being a household manager that negatively impacts a person and it's the emotional. It's based on how well we think we are at the managerial and cognitive pieces of running the home. And there's a lot of negative internal chatter about it! The Sunday Basket® quiets those comments. Heather had been successfully using a DIY Sunday Basket® with her large family, so Heather and her husband agreed to invest in the Organize 365® Sunday Basket to get additional support. She shared about how she does Christmas. She shared her hacks on how not have to wrap presents the night before, how she makes her kids lists, and how to not overspending! And wait till she explains her sick box, genius solutions! And since that was such a success, it made sense to invest in the old All Access program to get their house in order to sell. It made $20,000 in sense! Once they decluttered and met with their realtor again, they added $20,000 to the selling value of their home by just painting and decluttering! Then they moved, Heather got her Masters, added some dogs, and a child!! The last half of our conversation was about Embrace, currently the self-guided retreat until I am done with the PhD. She pointed out how important it is to do the journaling and coming to terms with your past. Through journaling we can all notice what we say to ourselves, the lies we tell ourselves, and look at what we wrote to decide if it's true. We can journal to explore what we want. And specifically with Embrace, it made so much sense to Heather because she's done that hard work of journaling and reflecting. And there is are many scientific benefits of pen to paper. The reality is you can't get to “What is my unique purpose and how can I share it?” until you have accepted that you are worthy and have great value to give. She lost her father shortly after having her 5th child. How does one grieve and celebrate a new life at the same time? Heather had to use her planning and journaling skills to work through that grief while still taking care of her family the way she wanted to. She scheduled her grieving time and you may need to do the same. Take the time to process your past to get to the place where you can feel worthy of organization. You can then realize you have so much to offer this world. And finally with embrace, explore how you can impact the world with your unique gifts and talents. Heather has this great 6 step art therapy journal prompting process that she takes her clients through. She really shared a lot about the process and I believe so many people would benefit from doing the internal work before diving into Embrace. We are all worthy and valuable. Heather's advice is, “We need to start with the internal work. Sitting and taking time to do the internal work first will let you stay motivated and on track to do what you need to do.” Heather shared her desire to do so in collaboration with Organize 365® someday. If you liked Heather and her ideas, you DON'T want to miss the next Coffee Chat!! What steps can you take to ensure every voice is heard and valued in your workplace? Imagine walking into a room and knowing that no matter who you are, your ideas matter, your experiences are recognized, and your contributions are celebrated. In this episode of the Inspirational Leadership podcast, I speak with Sara Dean about the importance of creating environments where every voice is heard and everyone feels valued. Sara is a Seattle-based keynote speaker, executive coach, business consultant, and trainer for leaders and teams. She supports women in leadership who want to become more courageous in their thoughts, actions, and conversations. From women's empowerment events to corporate training series to long-term resiliency and creating custom talent development curriculum, Sara teaches folks how to identify and own their greatest strengths in order to show up and shine in the areas they most want to grow and evolve. Listen in to learn how to create space as a leader for people to process, practice, and engage with new skills and not just deliver volumes of information. You will also learn about the common struggle with confidence across all genders and the importance of leaders recognizing and addressing this issue. Key Takeaways: The importance of helping women take up space and use their voices in powerful ways. How to effectively lead, cultivate, and empower other leaders by creating space for people to process, practice, and engage with new skills. The importance of providing resources and engaging in dialogues to foster learning and growth within organizations. The value of regular, open dialogues and personal sharing to build trust and connection in the workplace. Standout Quotes: “It's been really cool to see men step into allyship and advocacy for women and trying to unravel some of the ways that they've been socialized can be just as harmful as the way that women are socialized.”– Sara [05:04] “If we aren't creating space for people to process the information or to practice using new skills, we're missing a huge aspect of leadership that allows us to cultivate and empower other leaders.”– Sara [13:31] “If you give people the opportunity to share, demonstrate a little bit of vulnerability, and then connect around that, that experience makes them feel seen, heard, held, and valued in the moment, and then they also want more.”– Sara [17:02] ⇢ Get full show notes and more information here: https://bit.ly/SaraDeanPodcast

High-achieving women who struggle with alcohol are often smart, hard working and struggle with trusting in their own worth, instincts and decisions. If this is you, you're probably extremely capable but live with insecurity, a healthy fear of failure and a loud inner-critic. You might look to your boss, partner, parents or friends for approval and validation of your work. You might have a hard time drawing boundaries or feel like you can never relax because you could be doing more. And you might drink to quiet the constant chatter in your mind. Before I stopped drinking I identified as a people-pleaser and an overachiever who lived with a somewhat constant fear of failure, a need for approval and a lot of self doubt. I started relying on wine to turn off my busy mind, let me relax and quiet my insecurities. But ironically, once I started drinking to cope it became even harder to trust my choices, feel confident and capable. I asked my friend Sara Dean, a business and leadership coach and the host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, to help us understand why women lose self-trust and how to get it back. 3 Ways I Can Support You In Drinking Less + Living More Join The Sobriety Starter Kit, the only sober coaching course designed specifically for busy women. I am willing to bet that even the most confident person you can think of probably feels inadequate from time to time. Another way you might describe this feeling is by calling it self doubt, and that's a struggle that I often hear from women in this community. Today I'm talking with fellow podcaster, Sara Dean. And even as a woman that radiates confidence she knows what to do when you feel inadequate because she has learned some tough personal lessons on the subject. To start, we talk about why women specifically may deal with self doubt and inadequacy more often. Then, Sara has four ways to use the information that you already have about yourself to help you feel qualified, capable, and worthy of achieving the things you want for yourself. And if you listen to the end I issue a little "extra credit" challenge, based on her advice, that we can do together! My FREE habits class is now available!! I hope this conversation, and the challenge Sara offers us to cut the crap and calm the chaos, inspires us to show up as Sara does, with humility and bravery, honesty and humor, and as she says, shameless #everydamnday. If you're someone who's thinking, “I do not have time to come up with my values and vision.” then this episode is perfect for you. Today we are chatting with Sarah Deam from the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, and we are going over values and vision, burnout, and leadership — all with practical steps around everything we go over. 1% on any given day doesn't matter but when you have 1% every day, it matters a lot over the long run so let's stop shrinking and playing small, and let's be leaders in our lives. Sara Dean lights up our lives once again while Ryan, Scott, and Boston try to win the point spread.
If you've been hanging out with me for any length of time, you are likely a person who gives a shit about growing and developing and becoming the person you truly want to be. But, what does that actually look like? What does it really mean to actively work toward a more evolved version of yourself? What if you are so stuck in a cycle of working, taking care of everyone else, putting out fires, rinse, repeat and have no idea what you actually enjoy or really want? It can be so easy to get into a tornado of a career/work life and forget what you even like to do for fun. Or maybe you threw yourself into raising children and in between diaper changes and college tours, you forgot what you're really passionate about. It's not uncommon to get to a place in your life where you feel like your entire identity is wrapped up in one major area of your life. And then you're like, “No wonder I'm not happy… I have no idea who I am and what I like anymore!” On this week's show, I dial up my pal, Sara Dean, a mindset and leadership coach who, following the birth of her son, rebuilt her own identity one step at a time. She is passionate about helping women own their space and embrace all of who they are… even if they aren't sure where to start. In this discussion, we break down where we tend to lose who we are and we also dig into Sara's easy-to-implement steps you can take to uncover who you want to be. This pod explores: Sara's two-prong approach of “Frequency and Recency” and how you can use them to become more of the person you want to be How to own your personal superpower even if you are feeling lost, stuck, and have no idea what you want What it looks like to stop waiting for permission and how to ask for support instead How to examine what kind of evidence you are collecting and if that is helping or hurting you from becoming the person you want to be HIRE ME TO SPEAK AT YOUR EVENT! Today we talk about what it means to Play Bigger Without Asking for Permission. It's an important topic especially in light of last week's conversation about imposter syndrome. Notables: Women have historically tried to shrink their bodies which carries over to their minds. Sara's goal is the opposite; to help women take up space We ask for permission partly because it has been modeled that way - women have been trained to ask for permission before we allow ourselves to do things Own your superpower: Be really clear about what we're good at. Say it out loud. How do you identify your superpower? It's often what we're naturally good at, what feels easy to us. It's okay to pick the easy thing, Give yourself permission to not be good at everything. For moms who are raising boys: What do we do to help them support strong girls and women? Sara says, "Model the behavior we want them to see. Help them make space for others' experiences." Entrepreneurship is often freaking exhausting - sometimes it takes all our energy just to stay standing. How can we manage our energy, hope, and expectations when facing so much fear, uncertainty, risk, and challenge? And how can we cultivate an attitude of patience amid all the shiny promises of immediate gratification and subsequent let-downs? This week, Annie P. sits down with Sara Dean, the fearless and fabulous matriarch of The Shameless Mom Academy. Sara has amassed tons of knowledge in her own entrepreneurial journey and eagerly shares the secrets of traction, imperfect action, and honoring the complexity of your clients. So many moms struggle with their identity after having kids, and not many know what to do with that shift. It comes with a shift in values, purpose, and time, and many moms get stuck in a spiral of not knowing who they are and how to align with the various roles they have in their life. In this episode, I talk with Sara Dean, who is host of the well known podcast Shameless Mom Academy, about her journey into finding her balance, personally and professionally. What started as a career in the fitness industry, Sara pivoted to podcasting and coaching, in which she went from guiding women how to get smaller, to supporting them in living fully, unapologetically taking up space and learning to create the life they want to be living. We cover everything from identity struggle, parenting during Covid, overcoming the shame narrative, and the harsh reality of time flying. If you're mom, this episode is for you. About Sara: Sara Dean is mindset, business and leadership coach. She is also the creator and host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, a top rated podcast with over 3.5 million downloads. Sara's biggest passion is helping women own their space. After enduring her own identity crisis following the birth of her son, Sara took her background in psychology/health/ wellness and rebuilt her identity, one step at a time. Today on the podcast, the lovely and genuine Sara Dean gets honest with us about her struggles and how she has transformed her life. We talk about conscious actions that can move you closer to the person YOU want to be and the life you want to live. We also talk about the fact that embarking on a wellness journey doesn't have to be expensive. Listen in to hear Sara's story on how she is doing "at least something" everyday to move her closer to the highest version of herself. Anxiety, depression, disordered eating, substance abuse, co-dependency, low self-worth, and a myriad of other seemingly inescapable labels defined my identity, and to say that life was nearly intolerable is an understatement. Counseling and medication served as band-aids, treating symptoms to make it through each day, but I knew there had to be more to life than pushing through and that it would require healing the root of these symptoms to truly see change in my life. It was not until I stepped into my first Power Yoga class that I believe the life I had been seeking truly began; this was the place I first tuned into my body and breath and was able to quiet the constant chatter in my mind to use it in more productive ways. From there, I dove inward for two years, learning and applying new concepts in my life, essentially using myself as a science experiment to see if I could rewire my brain to move past survival and into something better. It has not been an easy road to travel, as it has been filled with many highs and lows as I examine and question the thoughts, beliefs, and patterns that I clung so tightly to, but I'd travel it many times to arrive here, right now, overjoyed to be alive to meet each new day. It is my deepest passion to use what I have learned to help others build a solid foundation within themselves to heal, grow, and experience all the joy that is available to us when we shed the heavy burdens and labels to step into alignment with who we truly are. I believe that many, if not all, of our perceived problems and personality “defects” can be mended through self-study and conscious living to bring the mind, body, and spirit into homeostasis. Despite our greatest efforts to not change because it's scary, this journey will surely bring a lot of change, but I am here as a living example of how possible it is and to support you along the way. Originally from Mobile, AL., I now consider myself a Pensacola local, living here since December 2013. After fighting a lifelong uphill battle against my mental and physical health, I stumbled into Power Yoga and have not looked back. After only a short time, I saw tremendous improvements in my overall health and had created a solid foundation to continue building on to grow and heal. I have spent the past two years in deep self-study, but have also taken a variety of classes at Pensacola State College and work with local practitioners in the health and wellness field to expand my knowledge in mental, physical, and spiritual health. Now armed with a 200-hour RYT certification, my hope is to share what I have learned and continue to learn along this journey to help others experience this deep peace that I have finally found within myself, whether on a yoga mat or off of it. Sara and Elise get together and talk about motherhood, reframing the stories you tell, making mistakes, and creating a safe space in your family. I might have had too much fun with this… The truth is I can geek out talking about business all day long. Why, you ask? Because stepping into my identity as a business owner and entrepreneur has allowed me to step into my role as a leader. Before I had a business, I did not see myself as a leader. A loudmouth? Maybe. Outspoken? For sure. But a leader? Nope. When I started owning that I was, in fact, a business owner so many things shifted for me. I took my work more seriously. I valued my contributions to my clients at a higher level. I became so much more thoughtful and intentional about what I was building. So, when you hear me geek out about this, I hope you understand it is in stepping up as a business woman that I've been able to step up as me: Sara Dean, the leader, and the legacy builder. It is my hope that you find this for yourself - that magical place where you see yourself as a leader and legacy builder. Maybe it's in your role in a traditional job, maybe it's in the work you do to take care of your family, maybe it's in the positions you hold in your community, and maybe, just maybe, it's in your work as a business owner - like me. Last week I had so much fun talking about some of the nuts and bolts of my business. This week I'm back for more - but this time I'm coming from a different angle. I'll be talking about how I manage my mindset when things get tough, how I stay out of the comparison trap, how I manage haters, and some nitty gritty podcast details (because some of you are dying for the nitty gritty!) I hope you enjoy this second week of me pulling back the curtain on my business. If you're nosy like me, it's really fun and fascinating to learn all the behind the scenes goodies of the people you know online. Lastly, if you want specific business advice, join me on Thursday, November 18th at 5pm PT/8pm ET for a free business training: 3 Building Blocks You Need To Grow Your Business. Caregivers in general, be they moms, dads or those caring for elder parents, are struggling at work right now in very specific ways. What can workplaces do to support them and see things from their point of view? Empathy combined with action will ensure you don't lose top talent, but instead enable them to thrive and help your company succeed.Today I have the utter joy to talk with Sara Dean, who knows a thing or two about moms and the many hats they wear at work and home. We talk about where exactly empathy is lacking for caregivers and what workplaces can do to better adapt and support them. Then, we switch gears to discuss the best ways to teach your kids empathy and share our personal journeys with our own kids so they can learn to appreciate and celebrate differences. Key Takeaways: If the Corporate world gave all parents permission to be the default parent, we would better understand that everyone needs certain exceptions during certain seasons of their life and it would no longer be looked at unkindly or as weird when a mom needs to feed a baby during a meeting. While workplaces are getting better because of the increased focus on DEI, corporations still need to look at the other identities that are carried by the people in their organization, visible or invisible, that they need to be making space for. There are ways to discuss race with children, as young as 2 or 3, that are age appropriate and healthy. These small conversations will lead to children being inquisitive and wondering what it's like to live someone else's experiences and lead with empathy. "We are all caretaking in really big ways right now. It ‘s important that we recognize the toll that it takes, and then create space for everyone's ‘One disappointment away from breaking.'" — Sara Dean About Sara Dean, Creator and Host, Shameless Mom Academy PodcastSara Dean is a mindset, business and leadership coach. I am your host Jessica Butts, and today Sara Dean joins me for probably my favorite episode of the series to talk about ENFJ! Why's it my favorite? Because it's my type too, haha! Sara is a dear friend, a podcasting genius, and the creator and host of The Shameless Mom Podcast.Overall ENFJs are extroverted, intuitive, feeling and judging which means they give their best selves to other people. They are big picture thinkers. They think outside the box, they're always thinking about what's next. It makes them great entrepreneurs. They are feelers, meaning they make decisions with their hearts and they are Js, which means they're normally pretty obsessive, highly organized, like to be on time, they are planners, and futuristic. And they pretty much have the horse blinders on, like, “Get out of my way, don't distract me, this is where I'm going.” The ENFJs and the ENFPs are interesting because they're very similar, but their front seats are different. An ENFJ is out in the world, giving, sharing, connecting in life and in business, right? We normally have a lot of friends. We have a lot of activities going on. People might think we're very social and, and extroverted and outgoing, which is true. But not the other half of us, the other 50% of us is inside in our hearts. In our mind, being intuitive, walking in silence, thinking in silence, journaling, having a morning practice, getting away by ourselves, taking solo trips, a weekend retreats by ourself, all a whole bunch of alone. And that my friends is where ENFJs get their ideas.Listen in to this episode to learn all about ENFJs, I'm sure you know some! Sara and I share some great stories and examples of life interactions where our type resonate, and where it clashes. I hope you enjoy today's episode. This week we're talking about a topic that we never discussed in any of our couple of hundred episodes already published on The Wellpreneur Podcast. We're talking about selling your business! My today's guest is Sara Dean of Shameless Mom, and she's actually been a guest on our show before in episode 157 to talk about running two of her businesses: a gym and a podcast that inspires guilt free moms. And Sara had a huge change in her business with selling her gym, so I really wanted to catch up with her because there are a lot of you thinking and considering the possibilities of just evolving in some other direction and passing on your wellness business to someone else because you feel like it's time for a change. Which is why we're starting this conversation from scratch, as when she actually got the initial idea of moving away from her gym, Sara wasn't even sure she had a business she could sell so she found a business broker, why the process of selling took 18 months. We really dive into what's important to consider when you think about selling your own wellness business anytime in the next 5 years. You'll learn more about something that in entrepreneurial world they call exit strategy + so much more! This episode originally aired on The Wellpreneur Podcast.Get the full show notes with links: https://wellpreneur.com/selling-your-wellness-business-with-sara-dean-2/Copyright 2012-2020 Wellpreneur Ltd. In this episode, I'm interviewing the amazing Sara Dean. We're talking about going from a business model in the fitness industry that was all about making women shrink to one that is about helping them grow and expand. She's sharing tips about how to curate what you allow yourself to be exposed to on social media and the connection between confidence and beauty that has nothing to do with size. I'm also answering the question, "What are some quick things I can do when I'm just feeling blah and unmotivated?"
Today we're chatting with Debbie who runs a website called TILT parenting which provides an abundance of insight and inspiration to parents with differently wired kids. She affectionately uses this term rather than disability or disorder and has her own differently wired 12-year-old son with ADHD and aspergers. We hear about Debbie's very many challenges of bringing up her son and how she didn't have any sign posts to help her out along the way. As an author and former kid's TV executive, Debbie has taken her gift of connecting and creating communities to become an advocate to parents dealing with similar situations. Debbie talks about the unnecessary social stigma attached to those that are different and how it can create isolation and separation. She dives into the ins and outs of home schooling her boy in a foreign country and how he is thriving with his curriculum. We also raise issues about the traditional educational model and how it is outdated in many aspects. If you know of a close friend or family member that is differently wired, you'll gain a fresh insight into how you can approach the many unique aspects of their lives. This week we are talking about shame with Sara Dean of Shameless Mom Academy. Sara is a wellpreneur who owns on-site gyms and is also a host of Shameless Mom Academy podcast in which she talks about shame in motherhood. Sara and I met in the Philippines and I knew right away that I wanted to have her on the show to talk about the issue of shame not only with motherhood but also with wellness and marketing in our business. There is so much shame used in marketing starting from all the ways weight loss is marketed to women and generally by making people feel bad about themselves in order to sell them a product or service. But it doesn't stop there. We see shame in the entrepreneurial world in all of these “standards” that should measure the quality of your work from how you should have made 6 figures overnight to having thousands of people on your email list. So if you are looking for another way to talk about your business and help people achieve their fitness goals without having them feel bad about themselves, you are going to love this episode. And also we touch on other topics such as self-care, the importance of it and how to sell self-care, what to do when you have a business dream that's not really aligned with the work that you are doing, and more! This episode originally aired on The Wellpreneur Podcast.Get the full show notes with links: https://wellpreneur.com/selling-self-care-and-shame-free-marketing-with-sara-dean/Copyright 2012-2020 Wellpreneur Ltd. Sara has a clear passion in helping to inspire women and in particular new mums to create greatness in all areas of their lives. We met Sara in the Philippines and felt an instant connection with her. She runs an academy titled Shameless Mom Academy where she features her own podcast show. She is also the owner of Sync Fitness Boot Camp and Transformation Centre in Seattle. Sara was blown away with the struggles that came with motherhood. She felt she completely lost her identity and knew there had to be another way. When she found her feet, she wanted to dedicate her focus to helping other women, who were either new to motherhood, or any woman that might need help, to transform into becoming the best version of themselves. We talk about the physical challenges that come after giving birth, including a complete change in priorities and workout regimes. We also touch on the social expectations and pressures that are placed on new mums and how they are simply unrealistic. We look into the importance of self-love and self-care, including the mindset around losing weight. We also discuss the ethical problems that come with particular companies in the fitness industry, including the type of weight loss packages that 'shame' new mums into buying their products. Do you find yourself following fitness inspo on Instagram? We talk about why this could actually be bringing you down and provide more empowering ways in which you can replace this habit. When you're a new mum, any kind of movement can make you feel strong and powerful and Sara fills us in on all the reasons why!
