"It sounds easy but it's really hard when you've worked this hard to be a physician to say 'oh I'm gonna do a little less'. What I've realized is that myself and I think maybe some listeners out there might resonate with, we often feel like our productivity and our value to society is based on how many procedures we do, patients we see, hours we put in. Usually I would be the first one there and the last one to leave and you know we wear it kind of as a badge of honor, but over time that narrative in our head can really lead to burnout."This episode is with Dr. Shanika Esparaz, a board certified ophthalmologist and welness coach for women in healthcare. In the first half of the episode we discuss Shani's personal experiences:- Her experience with burnout and the unexpected ways it showed up for her- The pivotal moment where her daughter was injured in the care of their nanny and how this made her re-evaluate everything- Her experience getting a coah (it was great!) and how this inspired her to become a coach herself- Getting a coach and then became a coach herselfIn the second half of the episode (starting at 25:00), Shani puts her coaching hat on and gives some invaluable advice for those of you who may struggle with any of the following:- Recognizing burnout in yourself- Realizing you may be burnt out but being frustrated by the fact that it's your work environment that's the problem and not you - Feeling like taking care of yourself is just one more thing to add to your plate that you don't have time for- The factors to consider when thinking of switching to part time- Getting started journaling (can be so quick but so beneficial!) - Detaching your worth from things outside of yourself like productivity, promotions, etc.- Performing a time audit- and so much more!Connect with Moms of Medicine:- Instagram @moms_of_medicine- Momsofmedicine@gmail.comConnect with Dr. Shanika Esparaz:- Website- Doctorgoals podcast episode on setting up a direct care practice - @shani_esparazmd on instagram

This week, we're replaying a classic episode where Steve and Yvonne interviewed Kyle Farrar and Wesley Ball of Farrar and Ball, LLP (http://fbtrial.com/).   Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here to Rate and Review.   View/Download Trial Documents   Case Details: Farrar & Ball trial attorneys Kyle Farrar and Wesley Ball share how they secured justice for Shanika Brown and her infant daughter, who underwent arm and leg amputations, respectively, after being ejected from a car that hit a blown truck tire from a concrete mixer owned by Silvi Concrete on I-295 in New Jersey. The failed Bridgestone L315 tire, which was poorly retreaded by McCarthy Tire and negligently maintained by Silvi Concrete, was left in the roadway and caused the car Brown and her daughter were riding in to swerve and crash. Bridgestone, the original manufacturer of the tire, settled pre-trial. McCarthy Tire settled early in the trial and Silvi Concrete settled with the infant daughter before the case was presented to the jury. A Philadelphia, Pennsylvania jury ultimately assigned 85 percent of the blame to Silvi Concrete. It returned a verdict of $10.6 million to Shanika Brown and $65,000 to Shanika's mother, who was driving the vehicle. Combined with delay damages, the verdict totaled $11.7 million.   Guest Bios: Kyle Farrar Kyle Farrar is a veteran litigator with an active trial caseload in state and federal courts across the country. He has secured record jury verdicts and settlements on behalf of individuals injured by dangerous products and reckless and negligent parties. In addition, he has taken leading roles in high-profile multidistrict litigation (MDL) in cases involving dangerous and defective medical products. Kyle began his career at one of the nation's largest law firms, representing Fortune 500 companies in multimillion-dollar lawsuits. He founded his firm to focus on representing individuals who have suffered catastrophic injuries caused by tire blowouts, tread separation, and tire failure linked to defective tires and automotive products. Kyle is a national thought leader regarding tire and vehicle safety, and his work has helped spur manufacturers to improve safety and recall defective products. In this capacity, Kyle routinely assists peers and helps educate lawyers at product liability litigation conferences nationwide. He is often asked to assist as trial counsel in cases and trials, having appeared in Courts in over twenty different states and trying cases to a successful outcome in ten different states. Read Full Bio   Wesley Ball In 2005 – three years after graduating from Baylor Law School – Wesley Todd Ball co-founded Farrar & Ball, LLP, and built it brick by brick to what it has become today. In 2013, the firm joined forces with Kaster & Lynch, LLP to create Kaster Lynch Farrar & Ball, LLP, one of the top product liability law firms in the nation. Mr. Ball's work is concentrated on automotive defect cases, including tire failures, rollover incidents, airbag failures, seat failures, fuel-fed fire cases, and related design and manufacturing defects.  In addition, he has extensive experience handling major multiparty products liability litigation against virtually every major domestic and international vehicle manufacturer, tire company, and automotive component manufacturer in both state and federal court.  As such, Mr. Ball has tried cases to successful outcomes in eight different states, including Texas, Kentucky, Florida, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Minnesota, California, and New Mexico. In episode 431, Megan chats to Shanika Graham-White about how to incorporate videography into our businesses and why it is essential in today's video-focused social media world. Content creator and recipe developer, Shanika, is part kitchen ‘ninja' and connoisseur of interior decorating (hence her passion for beautifully staged food photos and videos). She is a self-taught cook and baker, who has partnered with top brands like Ripple Foods, So Delicious Dairy-Free, Vitamix and California Olive Ranch, to be the source for comfort food and sweets, with a healthy twist. She desires to help others turn the ‘little' that they have into something magical - great food. On her blog, Orchids + Sweet Tea, you will find traditional dishes using organic ingredients as well as dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan versions of your old and new favorites. In this episode, Shanika talks through her videography workflow, equipment and tips for creating captivating videos. - How to best transition to videography in a video focused social media world. - Translate food styling/photography into the space of videography. - The new age of food blogging and the need for social media AND SEO. - The best equipment to get started in food videography (for the novice and expert). - How to manage content creation, using techniques like batching. - Avoid trends and "burnout" in the new video age. This week on the #MoneyMagic Podcast, I talked to Shanika Malcolm, the founder of Starseed Landing, an organization that focuses on regenerative living, consciousness, and transformation on the planet to help people live in harmony with nature. Shanika is passionate about helping people live an empowered, authentic, and real life.     If you didn't know, Shanika is the first African American woman to complete the Naked and Afraid 21-day challenge in Chiapas, Mexico in the Jungle. She loves connecting with nature, and as with so many things that Shanika is into, there's not enough representation of people of color, but this has not prevented her from achieving. Her mission is to create a path for people of color, especially women, to feel confident and comfortable in their quest.   In this episode, Shanika shares how she has always had home births with just her boyfriend and/or a midwife, without attending a single appointment with doctors or going for check ins and just working with her body and how her kids very rarely fall ill. She also shares what it's like to travel the world with 3 kids, who are getting homeschooled.   She also discusses with us how as women, we're constantly forced to make ourselves smaller and how a lot of the beliefs that we have about ourselves are not our own. Most of our beliefs come from a traumatic, wounded, and unnatural society, which makes self-awareness and healing very important. Healing yourself is healing the ancestors and the next generation. Healing yourself is also healing the planet. You heal backward in time and forward in time, and it starts with your womb. That is your power center, which holds many emotions and energy.    Becoming self-aware of what you think about yourself, connecting with the body, and working with the womb will help you align your beliefs with what you want to feel, heal, feel comfortable in your body, and build confidence.     Tune in! During this episode, you will learn about: [00:01] Introduction to the show  [03:23] A bit about our guest today, Shanika Malcolm [05:41] Bridging the gap, living an empowering life, and how Shanika does it   [08:13] What inspired Shanika to the Naked and Afraid 21 days challenge   [09:43] Shanika's experience as the only person of color in spaces and her secret to success [12:35] Mindset work that won Shanika a space in the Naked and Afraid show  [15:18] Self-love and acceptance in building confidence within ourselves [17:35] Shanika's practices that help her heal and feel comfortable in her body   [22:18] Shanika's experience in the Naked and Afraid 21-day challenge in the jungle  [24:24] Survival skills and how she worked her way to survive from the beginning    [30:22] Land acknowledgment and how it helped Shanika to keep going  [35:35] Shanika's brand vision on ecovillages and how you can support them to grow  [39:13] Womb and self-retrieval work and why it's important in your life  [41:34] What inspired Shanika into womb work and healing  [45:07] Feeling unsafe and how it can lead to trauma and affect the outcome of your life [52:53] Why your pelvic and your yoni are the most powerful parts of your body  [55:02] Tuning in to ourselves and our innate knowing  [56:21] How Shanika arrived at her birthing process, birthing at home [00:00:01] Making birth seamless by working with your body  [01:04:36] How to get into your feminine through deep breathing and relaxation  [01:11:43] Shanika's intention and mission of sharing love and life  [01:12:58] How to reach out, connect and work with Shanika  [01:13:26] Ending the show and call to action  Notable Quotes  Being the only person of color in spaces takes a lot of self-awareness and confidence to go into and take up space.  When you know the power of who you are, you can show up as that, and people will feel it.  Building confidence within yourself comes down to self-love and acceptance. A lot of beliefs that we have about ourselves are not our own; they come from a traumatic, wounded, and unnatural society. How you feel in your body, and the inner environment will reflect around and how you interact with people   The best environment to have a baby is the same environment the baby was created. When you start connecting with the body and working with the womb, you learn how to relax, surrender, drop into your feminine and feel safe. The breath and the mind are connected; a deep breath will help you connect with your body and feel relaxed.  Resources  Shanika's Naked and Afraid Video Update: https://twitter.com/nakedandafraid/status/1504188508092653573?lang=en Connect With Us Shanika Malcolm  Website: http://www.starseedlanding.org/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/moonchildhealing_sm/  Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/people/Starseed-Landing/100077004544642/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyZHGOa9av7BDLcfOeb4NaA Vangile Makwakwa Website: https://www.wealthy-money.com/moneymagic  Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/vangilemakwakwa/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vangilemakwakwa/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/wealthymoney1

Shanika is joined by her friend, Paige Cooper to discuss Hulu's newest series, Pam & Tommy. They discuss their love for Motley Crue (Paige) and Pamela Anderson (Shanika). Paige tells a great story about her husband‘s Motely Crue tattoo. How women have always been raked through the coals in media compared to their male counterparts. Shanika shamefully (or shamelessly) crushes over Tommy Lee's charm in the second episode (Sebastian Stan is playing the hell out of the role, y'all). Talking appendages…yup. Tommy's and Pam's past relationships. How this isn't a sex tape but an Exploit Tape. Note: During the episode, Shanika talks about Pam Anderson's other show, VIP and calls her Valerie Malone. Valerie Malone is a character from Beverly Hills 90210, and on V.I.P. Pam Anderson's character was Valerie Irons. Heads up: there was a bit of an audio issue for the first six minutes of the episode. What do you do when you have a set back? Say “Damn it all to hell!” and burn everything down. Kidding! Mercury in Retrograde kicked our butts and we made it out (barely). We both share situations where we've had setbacks and how we stay on track by focusing what is in our control. We also discuss the new to us story about the heavenly time Eartha Kitt spent with James Dean and Paul Newman. God bless Eartha.
