The 250th edition of the Four Four Magazine Local Selection is here, and we are ecstatic to showcase the Drogheda-based DJ and producer Hunteryx as the latest entry to the series. Find yourself encapsulated by his distinct style which stems from the house and techno era of the 90s and 00s. Having burst onto Ireland's techno scene over the past 12 months, Hunteryx has impressed a range of dancers, DJs and producers alike with his fast-paced, nostalgia-driven discography taking inspiration from the golden age of dance music. Gathering support from the likes of Yasmin Gardezi, Skin On Skin and Shampain during this short span of time. Constantly improving in every way, Hunteryx found himself making his festival debut this summer at Otherside's One In The Woods with Research and Slither while earning lucrative support slots for Sunil Sharpe, Fjaak and DJ Plant Texture too. This recording is a fine display of where Hunteryx finds himself stylistically at the moment. Quick, snappy mixing as he bounces between tracks with groove at its core. Now Dublin-based, the exciting DJ and music producer has marked his entry into the series by means of providing us with a solid workout that encompasses a variety of breakbeat and electro sounds throughout. Our latest entry to the Local Selection Mix Series is Phacade. The skilled musician has supplied us with a pacey recording that features an abundance of breaks alongside some choppy, playful vocals for the duration of the mix. Having previously featured on Project Radio last year as well as performing at LOST and Hidden Love parties, Phacade released some impressive tracks on Filth Inc and on his own Soundcloud in the process. Notably, his musical inspirations can clearly be heard throughout his productions. This ranges from Steel City Dance Discs mainstays Mall Grab and Skin On Skin to more sinister electro and breaky vocals that usually are associated with various grime and rap artists. Yazzus is one of the most exciting DJs out of the UK right now. But she doesn't play the usual UK stuff. Instead, her work—her productions and her DJing—is both a historiography and a dialogue of the Black Atlantic connection, taking in dance music genres from both sides of the pond. Her work, encompassing techno, electro and sometimes house, is an Afrofuturist project that combines past, present and future. Her recent EP, Black Metropolis, accomplishes this with a genuinely innovative take on '90s Black dance music that uses a vintage template to do something fresh. She calls her RA Podcast a "Black excellence" mix, traveling between eras and places, featuring artists like Skin On Skin, Paul Johnson, Drexciya and Huey Mnemonic. It's part of her mission to highlight (and remind people) about the Black origins of dance music, and also the vitality of today's Black dance music.
