On his daily First 10 podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey reacts to the Steelers' NFL Week 2 victory against the Denver Broncos. Can Broderick Jones be fixed following a penalty-plagued performance? Can OC Arthur Smith's offense as a whole clean up its numerous mistakes that short-circuited its second half? Are we seeing positive signs from Justin Fields with Russell Wilson's return from injury seemingly a ways away? And how good can coach Mike Tomlin's defense be after limiting Bo Nix and the Broncos to just six points? Then later, Jason reacts to Pitt's Backyard Brawl victory against West Virginia on Saturday. What does it mean for coach Pat Narduzzi's Panthers to have started 3-0? And what has quarterback Eli Holstein proven about himself after engineering yet another comeback?
On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, host Christopher Carter and Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo react to the team's NFL Week 2 victory against the Denver Broncos. Specifically they weigh in on Justin Fields' performance at quarterback. Is he doing enough to keep the starting job when Russell Wilson gets healthy? Or does he need to play better this week in a likely start against the Los Angeles Chargers? What impact did OC Arthur Smith's gameplan and frequent penalties have on his bottom line production. And are receivers including Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III letting him down? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Including: What's going on with Broderick Jones at tackle after a rash of penalties Sunday? Is his development being derailed by playing on the right side? How will coach Mike Tomlin handle his tackles including Troy Fautanu and Dan Moore Jr. moving forward? And can Teryl Austin's defense continue to be elite? Or are they padding stats against bad teams and players like Bo Nix and the Broncos?
Pat Narduzzi complained about officiating on Saturday and said Pitt beat West Virginia and also the refs. The officiating wasn't good but was it even worse in the Steelers-Broncos game?
Hour 3 with Joe Starkey and Bob Pompeani: Does Pitt have a chance to compete for an ACC Championship? It's way too early, but the wins are impressive and it's surprising how Pitt won both games they trailed double digits. Pat Narduzzi complained about officiating on Saturday and said Pitt beat West Virginia and also the refs. The officiating wasn't good and wasn't either in the Steelers-Broncos game.

September 13, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 24 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare for their Week 2 Sunday road game against the Broncos. We go over the Steelers' Thursday injury report, QB Justin Fields likely to make his second consecutive start and which players are likely to be on the Sunday pregame inactive list. We also briefly wonder if we might see a Saturday practice squad elevation again as well. Is QB Russell Wilson likely to be sidelined by his calf injury in Week 3 as well? Alex and I address that question early in this show. By the sound of things, rookie T Trot Fautanu is likely to start on Sunday for the Steelers with second-year T Broderiock Jones likely to be benched. Alex and I discuss that topic very thoroughly on Friday morning and what that might mean for both players. On Thursday, we heard from two of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin, so, as usual, Alex and I recap the few main talking points top come out of those two media sessions. Alex and I welcome Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette back to the show, and he helps us get started with a preview of the Steelers' road game against the Broncos. Tomasson has covered the Broncos for quite some time and that means he has a great pulse on the team. At the end of our talk with Tomasson, he gives us his score prediction for the Sunday game between the Steelers and the Broncos. If not already doing so, make sure to follow Chris on X/Twitter at @christomasson and make sure to read his work online here: https://denvergazette.com/users/profile/chris%20tomasson/ After finishing with Tomasson, Alex and I provide our own preview of the game between the Steelers and the Broncos. We break down what are looking for out of both teams on both sides of the football ahead of the Week 2 game. Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for all of the Week 2 games in the NFL. We also give our score predictions for Steelers-Broncos to end that segment. This 106-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. On his daily First 10 podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey reacts to Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's Tuesday news conference. Why does it seem only natural for Justin Fields to start in NFL Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, in place of the injured Russell Wilson? And is now the time to settle on Troy Fautanu and Broderick Jones at the tackle spots with Dan Moore Jr. injured as well? Jason gives his thoughts on those questions and an array of others. Including: Why is a 1950s matchup between Pitt and West Virginia often overlooked in Backyard Brawl history? Should the Pirates plan to bring Andrew McCutchen back this offseason, given his continued solid production? What's the deal with the Penguins' defense corps? And could the Washington Wild Things win the Frontier League this week?
On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to react to coach Mike Tomlin's news conference Tuesday at the team's South Side facility. Does Justin Fields have any chance to keep the starting QB job after Russell Wilson gets healthy? If so, what does he have to show to Tomlin and OC Arthur Smith? Our duo tackles those topics, plus more from around the team. What's the situation at tackle with Dan Moore Jr., Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu? What does Terrell Edmunds bring to the safety room after GM Omar Khan signed him this week? And how big of a problem is this team's receivers group after a disappointing Week 1 for names including Calvin Austin III, Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller behind George Pickens?
Broncos beat writer Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post joins us to preview Steelers-Broncos and to talk about Russell Wilson. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Post-Gazette insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo report from the Steelers' South Side practice facility, where coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that the team is preparing for Justin Fields to start Sunday in NFL Week 2 against the Denver Broncos as Russell Wilson continues to nurse a calf injury. Is Tomlin being sincere? Or could he be playing mind games with Broncos coach Sean Payton? How are is Tomlin of the national interest in the QB situation? And why is this different than the Mason Rudolph vs. Kenny Pickett decision that Tomlin had to make last year? Our duo tackles those questions and gives an update on injured receiver Roman Wilson.

ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi joined the guys as the Steelers arrive to training camp. Aditi has been assigned to the Steelers-Broncos game in Week 2 of the upcoming season as Russell Wilson returns to Denver. She talked about how the relationship between Wilson and Sean Payton failed to evolve from that point on. Aditi's biggest training camp story with the Steelers is how the offense looks under new power. How much of a stamp can Arthur Smith put on this team? Would you rather be known as the explosive player, good for one or two plays per week or the hard-working player that flies mostly under the radar? Aditi doesn't think there is any concern of Cam Heyward being a cancer about his contract.

Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Is the door back to being ajar for Brandon Aiyuk even though he initially showed up to training camp? He doesn't think Aiyuk should have walked through that door. What are the odds the Steelers give Najee Harris a second contract after he plays out this rookie deal? Mike thinks Harris needs to have a massive year for the Steelers to consider re-signing him. Mike thinks Cam Heyward definitely wants to stay in Pittsburgh, but what happens if things do get a little ugly? Mike isn't reading too far into what Russell Wilson said about wide receivers, and even joked that he may have just been going in alphabetical order.

We ask Chad about the job Mike Munchak is doing with the Broncos offensive line and what the Steelers are up against. Chad says the Broncos injuries at wide receiver mean they can't stretch the field against the Steelers this weekend. Given Chad's success at playing middle linebacker and what we've seen from Devin Bush so far, we ask Chad what he has seen in Bush and if he has the traits needed to be successful at that position. Chad didn't paint a very pretty picture of what the Broncos are bringing to town. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We ask Jim about the Zach Banner situation and if he could be activated before Sunday's game. He doesn't think we'll see Banner but he says he won't be shocked if we see Joe Haeg starting at right tackle over Chuks. Jim talks about all the groin injuries the Steelers are suffering. Ty Polk, Chris Ward, and Brandon Walker with George Stoia, Broncos Beat Reporter for the Denver Gazette. They discuss the possibility of Drew Lock taking over for Teddy Bridgewater, the Steelers' chances against the Denver front seven, and the Broncos secondary, led by Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson. Ty, Chris, and Brandon give their predictions at the end of the podcast.
Andrew Stockey, Sports Director at WTAE in Pittsburgh, on the Steelers QB situation, Najee Harris, O-Line decline, and the talented AFC North
Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joins the Blitz to get ready for Steelers - Broncos on Sunday.
Extra Points with Cousin Sal, Dave Dameshek & Charlotte Wilder
Cousin Sal, Dave and Martin react to the AL Wild Card game and who gets blame for the Yankees disappointing season. Eddie Spaghetti thinks firing Aaron Boone is not the answer and was letting random people at the bar know about it. Then, it's over to the NL Wild Card game as the guys give their Dodgers/Cardinals picks – and Dave doesn't feel bad that a 106 win team is in the wild card game, they should have won the division then. Arkansas linebacker and Extra Points NIL athlete Bumper Pool joins the show to discuss the game against Georgia, his opinion on the college football playoff and this week's game against Ole Miss and Heisman candidate Matt Corral. Bumper talks about how he settled on Arkansas and trying to get the Extra Points podcast out there. Next, the guys move to the NFL to discuss the Cowboys/Giants game. Plus, the guys give their thoughts on the Urban Meyer situation and if he really lost the locker room. Then they discuss the competitive AFC West, Steelers/Broncos – and do the Steelers have any other options other than Big Ben? Finally, Sal looks to continue his winning streak making picks on Fox's Thursday Night Football Pregame show as the guys discuss the Rams (-2.5) @ Seahawks.

Will Brinson is joined by Ryan Wilson and John Breech to break down all the latest moves in free agency. What's the better WR signing: Kenny Golladay on a long-term deal with the Giants or JuJu Smith-Schuster back to the Steelers on a short-term deal? Also, are the Broncos a sneaky playoff team after several defensive additions, specifically to their secondary? The Pick Six Superfriends also analyze the state of the NFC East and who the favorite should be at this point. The guys also react to the lawsuits filed against Deshaun Watson. In this episode, I recap the Steelers 26-21 win over the Broncos with Shane Hallam (@ShanePHallam, FakePigskin.com). We talk about the plays of the game, the state of the running game, the offensive line, the wide receivers, the defense, Fichtner's play-calling, and how they'll do against the Texans.
The Pittsburgh Steelers looked to be running away against the Broncos, but a rash of dumb penalties and a couple of second half turnovers almost let the game slip away. But Terrell Edmunds, who struggled mightily throughout the afternoon, came up big with a crucial fourth-down sack. The Steelers prevailed in their home opener 26-21 over Denver. As always, Mike Tomlin was available after the game to comment on the proceedings.
