You may have noticed a growing popularity for day time clubbing events in recent months. It would appear nightlife is changing, with a shift towards the day time for socialising and dancing. On this episode we learn more about this new trend, where it came from and what impact it is having on the local industry. First up Rosalind speaks to Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure and partner the writer/producer Jonny Owen about their day-time clubbing experience Day Fever. Vicky's mantra is 'music is medicine' and the couple tell Rosalind how this is translating into packed dance floors at 4pm up and down the country. Meryl Gilbert, the Arts and Business Director of SWG3 in Glasgow, also joins Rosalind to talk about the changes she has seen in the industry. She tells her that the rise of day time events is something that's been happening in New York and elsewhere for quite a while and it's not necessarily all about ageing clubbers wanting to be home to let the babysitter go! Hannah George, Sustainability Coordinator at SWG3  joins Earth Care for episode 4 of the Sustainability in the Live Music Industry series.  SWG3 is one of Scotland's busiest venues and welcomes 250,000 guests yearly. In 2021, SWG3 began their substantial shift towards net-zero. With the help of Stance, they began measuring the carbon footprint from their operation to better understand their environmental impact. The team then used that data to develop a baseline that allows them to continuously move the sustainability needle.  In 2022, SWG3 introduced a form of renewable energy that no other venue had tapped into, BODYHEAT. Since then, SWG3 has been powering music gigs and live events thanks to energy generated by all of the venue's visitors. The venue's mission to keep dancing, keep working, keep creating, while operating in a responsible way that recognizes the seriousness of the climate crisis.  In this episode, Hannah discusses the venue's journey to becoming net-zero and the various sustainability initiatives SWG3 has implemented. She explains the BODYHEAT technology and shares how long it took the venue to create it. We also learn about SWG3's reusable cup system, the circular swap shop, the active travel initiative, and their plans for reducing touring emissions. Hannah emphasizes the importance of collaboration and communication within the live music industry to drive sustainability efforts.  MORE FROM SARAH: Take the FREE #FansChooseToReuse pledge here and commit to reducing plastic bottle pollution at live music events! For those who aren't, here's a wee bit of background. Often described as The West's most significant and valued spy of the 21st century, Aimen worked undercover with MI6, deep within Al Qaeda, providing a constant stream of invaluable information to the British security services. Something that has irrefutably saved thousands of lives.  On joining MI6, Aimen's initial debriefs took place in safe houses all over Scotland, sparking an intense love affair with the country. A nation he calls his spiritual home. After moving to Scotland in 2019, Aimen enrolled his young daughter with one of the country's top private girls' schools in Edinburgh. He thought his family were set for life, in the land he chose to call home. But now, just two and a half years later, the family is set to leave Scotland completely, as things have gone drastically wrong.  Aimen explains the series of events that have led to this decision to leave the country for good… And he gives his reasons for speaking out, particularly for the protection of those who may be in a similar situation in future. www.dontfretaboutdebt.net/blethered/ Contact: seanmcdonald.podcast@gmail.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/seanmcdonald01

Today we're buzzed to welcome 3 of Scotland's soundest promoters and party starters, ALL U NEED to our hot seat, as they provide us with a whopping 4 hours 30 mins mix of club heat, recorded live from Subclub, in Glasgow on Halloween night. The Glasgow based collective, made up of Alex Dobie, Zander Coulter and Graham Brown, first came onto our radar back in 2019, whilst we worked on a sold out KETTAMA club show in Glasgow's huge SWG3 venue. Upon visiting Glasgow and attending their party, the crew, not only excellent hosts and party throwers, we got to experience first hand their tight mixing skills really and absolute fun taste in tunes. ALL U NEED has been a constant for 7 years, set up by a group of friends getting to do what they love week in, week out. Foremost, the trios main focus is to promote local and emerging talent, who are briefed to play “solid club music” every week in Subclub, as well as promoting their favourite emerging international DJs. As a solid crew in their own right, it makes sense for them to take the reigns every now and then, promoting the sounds they curate in the club. All U Need come through with quite frankly, all you could possibly need in a mix. The four and a half hour mix span's through house, techno, breaks, grime, acid, rave, electro and a whole lot more. The mix serves a vivid representation of the energy building on a dance-floor, throughout the night. The mix reaches an ultimate climax and then the energy crawls it's way back down. Tension goes up and down down, like a yoyo and keeps you on your toes the whole time. Covid-19 has left many people tired, dazed and frustrated - there is a danger that we collectively press the ‘pause' button to catch our breath. But accelerator for change organisation After the Pandemic, co-founded alongside Laura McHard by our guests in this episode Fergus Bruce and Graham Hogg (from Lateral North), are passionate about mobilising and engaging communities, particularly young people, to ‘rethink, reimagine and redesign spaces and places to be greener, more resilient and more vibrant'. Joining them in conversation with @TheGreenAmanda is young Glasgow student Colin Li, whose powerful climate change focused mural design was one of seven winners in the Grantham Institute's national competition for young people and now adorns the SWG3 railway arches beside the Clydesdale Expressway. Together they highlight the power of creativity, design and education to stimulate positive grass-roots change for the world's future. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Panda shares his emotional journey from growing up skateboarding in Paisley to a decade of excessive partying and working in bars to recently getting sober and using that energy to developing his art and "Big Heid's". The Big Heid's are visible all across Glasgow and loved by many. Panda references his early years and implies the Big Heid's are influenced by The Beano, The Simpsons and can be reflective of the faces witnessed during those years of partying. Panda talks about SWG3 in Glasgow and their Yardworks Festival which showcases local graffiti artists & his own project Colour Ways Glasgow CIC which was founded in May 2020. This artist led organisation aims to support and promote graffiti and street art within Glasgow. Panda reflects on a youth group he was involved with ran by Darren McGarvey / Loki and how that has encouraged him to support other youth groups now. The pair discuss how graffiti is viewed by the wider public, the language that is used when describing graffiti and the elements of control in a society that is built on fear. Panda talks about the power of graffiti and street art, the first time he painted during the night in a public place and the money wasted by Glasgow City Council on removing art that isn't deemed offensive. Enjoy. DW!

With this episode I just hit record and started talking! I'm frustrated and disappointed by the Summer Nights at Kelvingrove Bandstand being cancelled. Surely this is the ideal venue to trial live outdoor concerts at? Glasgow is a UNESCO city of music, a UNESCO creative city. We love music, we live for music, we really need it. Not just for the economy, but to lift spirits. I sincerely hope that some promoters, bands and labels are working on ideas for live music in the summer. I think the Bandstand and SWG3 in Glasgow are the venues we should be testing things at. Other cities in the UK are doing it. So what will my first post COVID concert be? Will Doune The Rabbit Hole go ahead? Do I hedge bets and buy tickets? What will my first show be? I basically use this podcast to get a lot of things off my chest. Chances are, if you are a music fan you'll be feeling the same.
