Three-time BloodList writers Joe Russo & Chris LaMont's Netflix horror movie, The Inheritance, directed by Alejandro Brugues (Pooka Lives), is currently in post-production. They re-wrote The Locksmith, a thriller starring Ryan Phillippe, Kate Bosworth and Ving Rhames, which shot in November 2021. Their screenplay, Soul Mates, wrapped production in July 2022. All three are expected to release in 2023. In 2020, the writing duo penned the thriller The Au Pair Nightmare, which Russo directed. The movie debuted to strong reviews and ratings, with USA Today saying it, "pushes all the right buttons." They wrote the Bruce Willis actioner Hard Kill, which was the #2 movie on Netflix over Thanksgiving. Russo also directed the short film Be Mine for Crypt TV. His short, Midnight Clear (featured on Entertainment Weekly, Nerdist and io9), was released on Gunpowder & Sky's digital platform, Alter. Russo produced the horror anthology Nightmare Cinema, which was the #2 movie on Shudder in 2019 and associate produced the Skydance/Apple movie The Greatest Beer Run Ever, starring Zac Efron and Russell Crowe and directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book), which debuted at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. He has The Untitled Hulk Hogan Biopic set at Netflix with Chris Hemsworth starring and Todd Phillips (Joker) directing. Russo also produces the critically acclaimed podcast series Post Mortem with Mick Garris, featuring over a hundred in-depth conversations with genre legends like Stephen King, John Carpenter, Guillermo del Toro, Edgar Wright and many more.

With ultra-violence akin to Amazon's hit The Boys, Invincible dismisses the overdone cliches of the sub-genre and creates a much needed departure from the rituals and narrative beats of superhero stories we've been familiar with for generations. Would god-like people really "save us" from mass devastation? Would they always use their powers for good and be the most selfless people on the planet? Invincible takes us to a superhero landscape we've historically refused to accept but perhaps would be more probable if super-humans were real. To me it stands alongside HBO's Watchmen and Todd Phillips Joker as a subversive and meta-critique of our culture's understanding of the uber-wealthy, super strong and incredibly intelligent -- the cohorts we're used to seeing being the best heroes. I also geek out a little too.

Hi everyone, hope all who are reading this are at home and healthy! We here at the Twisted Mug are hoping that you find some entertainment in our new review of Todd Phillips' Joker. The boys are all back to continue the DC series, and come back soon for our Birds of Prey review! Listen to the opener by Ryan for an update on the channel.
Rejected by an austere society in which the poor begin an uprising against the rich, Arthur Fleck is a desperate loner with aspirations of being a stand-up comic. Dreams backfire as Arthur becomes a spearhead for change in the city.Todd Phillips’ Joker was a departure from what we have come to expect from a comic book movie. Controversial & Oscar winning but still box office busting. Love it or loathe it, Joker’s impact on the industry was huge. All The Right Movies are putting on our happy faces as we discuss Joker
Things get a little weird on this episode. OK, maybe not that weird as Erik & Sergio Mims delve into some Ealing comedies, war films and a pair of television comebacks. Sergio finally gives his take on Todd Phillips’ Joker and tells us of his latest commentary track. In the middle of all of this though they go through a trio of films that run the gamut from one of Charlie Sheen’s first big roles to what maybe should have been Tawny Kitaen’s last. And Erik presents his theory on the film he somehow wiped away from memory that has been described as “Nickelodeon by way of David Lynch.” Film Movement (Passport to Pimlico, The Titfield Thunderbolt) Warner Bros. (Joker, Penelope, Cimarron, Two on a Guillotine, Veronica Mars: The Complete First Season, Big Little Lies: The Complete Second Season) Severin (The Peanut Butter Solution, The Boys Next Door, The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak) Kino (Tobruk, Ulzana’s Raid, War Lord)

What are the Oscars thinking? We need answers. Aside from railing against the Academy Awards' glaring omissions, the Double Feature team of Jonathan Roberts, Cheow Sue-Ann and Joanne Soh review Greta Gerwig's astounding take on Little Women and want to know how a film that good does not warrant for a Best Director nod at the Academy Awards. This will also prompt another anti-Joker rant from Mr Roberts. He's cheerleading team #anyonebutJoker And then Joanne Soh explains why Robert Downey Jr's post-Marvel career has got off to a flying thud with Dolittle. 00.35: Little Women reviewed, Greta Gerwig defies the odds with the eighth version of the Louisa Mae Alcott classic. Saoirse Ronan wows us, we finally get why Timothee Chalamet sends the girls swooning – and all without the use of Shawn Mendes. 07.50: What's wrong with the Oscars 2020 nominations plus wishlists and predictions and a rant about why Lorene Scafaria's Hustlers is more deserving of Best Director than Todd Phillips' Joker. 22.10: Last and least, it's the Dolittle review. Cinema like everything else in the current year is now political. Hollywood is now more explicit about pushing its worldview. On a Friday’s WilmsFront with a night at the movies on people’s minds catch up with Melbourne’s most red-pilled film buff Richard Wolstencroft to explore the politico-Hollywood complex. I provide the latest on the groyper war with Ben Shapiro of Daily Wire pre-empting the Q&A session with a 45-minute denouncement of the alt-right and America First host Nick Fuentes. The ABC has pulled Monday night’s episode of Q&A after countless complaints about its all feminist panel advocating violence against men, they will conduct an internal inquiry. Richard’s Melbourne Underground Film Festival has found itself deplatformed by its venue for this year’s festival after complaints to the owners. The festival is due to begin at month’s end so the search for a new venue has begun thick and fast. Veteran film director Martin Scorsese has kickstarted a debate about what should be considered cinema. Tim and Richard debate if the Marvel Cinematic Universe is cinema, it has proven more successful than other efforts to create film serials such as Star Wars. DC Comics has emerged in 21st-century cinema as the philosophical movie franchise. Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy began this with deeper explorations of the villains the Joker and Bane. Todd Phillips’ Joker has made $1 billion at the box office despite all the rage against it. The elites don’t like the movie exploring how a person like the Joker is born in our society. Another recent film that has contemporary political commentary is Rambo Last Blood whose plot is an exploration of Mexico drug cartels violence on the US southern border. The biggest box office bomb of the year is Terminator Dark Fate with its pro-feminist anti-male plot. The Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey sexual misconduct coverups only scratched the surface of the sinister culture that is engrained in Hollywood. Ronan Farrow’s book Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators documented his battle with NBC who refused to break the Weinstein story to protect their NBC Today host Matt Lauer. Hollywood also is eager to plague hostile actors and rogue states as the North Korea Sony Pictures hack in 2014 demonstrated. South Park also recently exposed Hollywood writing out any plotline which is critical of the Chinese Communist Party. An innocent bar crawl opens up the eyes of the Rubber Ducky Gang. After seeing the changes that have been made in their neighborhood, Nicky Trendz wanted to start a conversation on Gentrification. Not that she doesn’t love having a new brewery open every month in Ridgewood, Queens. She just wonders about the possible displacement going on! The questions comes up of how these new businesses are helping the neighborhood they open shop in. Are they employing locals or transplants? Are they using local vendors for menu items or chain-establishments? How do the neighbors feel about non-native people who come just to drink and take up precious limited parking spots?! Manny Oso chimes in here, too. With the popularity of the Todd Phillips’ Joker film, fans have been flocking to the stair streets of the Highbrodge neighborhood in The Bronx. The problem with this, is there have been no changes, clean ups or updates. No new stores or “Joker Breweries” to help the neighborhood keep tourists coming. Instead, a flood of influencers and selfie sticks! Locals have complained about the people who are just getting in the way of regular commuters and yet some have looked at it as hope for positive change in The Bronx.
