Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We're missing John for this one, after a failed attempt to record our anniversary episode last week threw our schedules for a loop. That said, Kevin & Randall have all sorts of gaming goodies to dig into per usual, so let's get right into it... Randall kicks things off with an update on the recent Resident Evil 4 Remake that has been soaking up a large quantity of his gaming time, as of late! And later on, he dives into another recent remake, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, which he's been playing co-op with his daughter! Sandwiched in-between those two topics of discussion, Kevin digs into a couple of ninja gaming classics (both indie and retro) that have more than stood the test of time — and even manages to completely mix-up the careers Soren Johnson & Nels Anderson, thanks to an amazing episode of the Designer Notes Podcast. We all know how much word of mouth and the opinions of others can influence our decision-making process, so if we can have some sort of control over this, some way of building a referral system, then surely this would be a long-term tactic that will pay off. Enter Stacey Brown-Randall. Stacey teaches small business owners and sales professionals how to generate referrals without asking, without the dark arts of manipulation and even through being your authentic-self. Why should we believe her? Because this is how Stacey built her own business up and now she’s here to walk us through the Referral Ninja Master Framework™. In this episode we cover; - Old school referral tactics and why they don’t work Go through the 6 integral elements to a great referral strategy: 1 - Laying the ground work 2 – Referral source identification 3 – Building a referral experience 4 – Planting those referral seeds 5 – Planning and implementation 6 – Tracking results and improvements - And explore the mentality of play the long game Watch the episode video: https://youtu.be/RnKsqNb_1aQ Takeaways Top Tip Stacey mentioned ‘referral seeds’ which are the touch-points where consumers come into contact with your business. I’m a huge fan of knowing and understanding your touch-points and improving these to improve your overall referral success rate. Favourite Quote When Stacey looked back at the old school tactics getting referrals which were ‘you have to ask for them…. You have to pay for them… You have to be overly promotional or gimmicky’ which can lead to the falsehood of viewing these as the only tactics that work. Don’t let that happen! And Finally, the Most Important Takeaway from this Episode If you want to improve your referral rate, think of the quality not the quantity. If you do this, you’ll see your closing ratio improve. So, let’s start to put some thought behind our referral tactics. Music Featured on this Podcast: Sleepy in the Garden Lobo Loco www.musikbrause.de Creative Commons License

Ninja Master, Marital arts, instructor, author, Buddhist priest. Some of the many titles used to describe Stephen K. Hayes. In the 1970s, Hayes traveled to Japan In June 1975, he met and began training under Tsunehisa Tanemura and then after Tanemura left Masaaki Hatsumi , who refers to himself as 34th Grandmaster of Togakure-ryū ninjutsu and is the founder of the Bujinkan (武神館) organization. Hayes returned to the United States with his wife, Rumiko, in late 1980 when his Japan residency visa expired, and began teaching and authoring numerous books and magazine articles. In 1985, he was entered into the Black Belt magazine's Hall of Fame as Instructor of the Year. He was again featured on the cover of Black Belt in the March 2007 issue. The magazine's opening editorial described him as "one of the 10 most influential living martial artists in the world". In 1993, Hayes was awarded the judan (tenth-degree black belt) in Togakure-ryū ninjutsu from Hatsumi. In 1997, he founded the martial art of To-Shin Do, an art based in his experience of budō taijutsu. In 2006, Hayes's name was removed from the display of active Bujinkan teachers, ending his official role within that organization. That his name plank was removed from the Bujinkan Honbu wall has been documented by both parties. However, the specifics regarding the motivation for the removal are in dispute. Some suggest Hayes was expelled from the organization. Hayes explains that he simply no longer participates as an active Bujinkan instructor. To-Shin Do is taught through his SKH (Stephen K. Hayes) Quest locations. The SKH Quest network now spans 31 schools across North America, Europe, Australia and Africa. Hayes acted in the 1980 television miniseries Shogun and in 2004 was featured in the Discovery Channel documentary Unsolved History regarding ninja and their practices. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/martial-maze/support

Vigor Life Podcast · EP105: How to Learn for Success, the Unicorn Approach and Overcoming Challenges w/ Mark Fisher Mark Fisher is one of my favorite humans, a close friend, and the co-owner and Ninja Master of Mark Fisher Fitness; is one of the most successful gyms in the history of the fitness industry. Within its first five years, MFF grew from a single personal trainer to a staff of over 35, more than 800 members, and its own studio in midtown Manhattan. Earning it a spot in on the prestigious Inc. 500 list of fastest growing companies in America in 2015. With a reputation as the fitness home of choice for the Broadway community, MFF has been featured in Forbes, The New York Times, New York Post, The Wall St. Journal, NY1, and more. Living by their mantra, “ridiculous humans, serious fitness,” MFF provides progressive training and nutrition protocols in a delivery system of subversive humor, fantastical imagery, and outrageous antics. Mark and I tend to have these conversations frequently, so it was great to record a podcast with him. In this episode we discuss the challenging times, the science behind overcoming adversity, how to lead people and teams through this and stand the test of time. We also dive deep into how to learn for success. This is a must listen to matter what industry you work in. Let's go. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN What's valuable right now during this emotional time - the two things that are key and the fine line between them. Why we don’t want to be emotionless, because emotions help us make decisions, but also have to understand that emotions are flawed. We discuss how to navigate them.Practical coaching examples for how to help a person who is stuck in ruminating, verses someone not processing and burying their emotions. How to bring healing to yourself by being a light to others; action, service, and giving creates a positive feedback loop. Why there is no successful repression, it’s going to show up somewhere, which is why we must deal with it. Working it out is not enough! Why asking the hard questions is the only way to start working on dealing with adversity and what you should be asking yourself. What we’re learning, changing our minds on and where we’re finding meaning during these times. What Mark thinks about visioning, goal setting, and writing out what you’re going to achieve.Productivity, developing skill-sets for the future and wrestling with what matters most when it comes to work. Why THIS is the time you must be brutally honest about what you want in every area of your life (and what you have to keep, add, and let go).An unusual tip and exercise that may seem counterintuitive but will create breakthroughs for you. What “Tomorrowland” is and how it can help you envision the life and business you want to create then reverse engineer it by looking backwards. Our thoughts about the law of attraction and is it really B.S?How Mark and I brainwashed ourselves from books, courses, mentors, and collected role models in the areas of our life we wanted to grow. Can a book really mentor you? Our thoughts around getting the most out of reading and learning how to learn. And so much more. The brick and mortar fitness industry – gyms, group fitness classes, Crossfit facilities and big box fitness companies – are all reeling because of social distancing and business restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many are trying to do their best by offering virtual classes through video-conferencing applications and social media. But the long-term impacts of such restrictions on businesses will forever change the industry. We are fortunate to have Mark Fisher – co-owner of Mark Fisher Fitness based in New York City – on board for Episode 073 to give us his impressions of the current situation and how he is working hard to prepare for every potential scenario moving forward with his business. Whether it is a gradual, phased approach to returning to full operation and/or a continuation of virtual training as part of the return to normalcy, Mark gives his personal and professional impressions of how we can deal with all of the challenges, while maintaining a positive attitude and bolstering our mental health.Mark Fisher is the co-owner and Ninja Master of Mark Fisher Fitness, one of the most successful gyms in the history of the fitness industry. There is nothing better than helping a client more than double their referrals in one year. Listen in as Clark Woodard of the Bagwell & Bagwell Insurance Agency and I talk about how they took their referrals from an average of 50 per year to 115 in their first year following the Growth By Referrals program. She will also share how they involved their team to buy-in to the program and each do part of the work. ** Game talk starts at 15:30** We're on Twitter - @memberthegameand Instagram - @memberthegameand Facebook! facebook.com/rememberthegame And for $2/month you can get a bunch of stuff and support us on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/rememberthegame Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (Shinobi III moving forward, that title is too long) is what retro gaming is all about. The graphics, the music, the gameplay, the difficulty. It nails it. I played this for the first time in my life almost 26 years after it released, and if you told me it was a retro-inspired indie title that just came out this year, I'd believe you. It seems to me like Shinobi was Sega's answer to Nintendo's Ninja Gaiden series. You play as a bad-ass ninja, running from left to right, wall jumping and killing bad guys. You die a lot. But admittedly, I never really felt like the deaths were cheap. Ninja Gaiden has caused a few controller throws in it's time, but I don't know if Shinobi III has. The game is hard as fuck, but there weren't too many instances where I felt my deaths were cheap. It nails, for better or worse, that classic 90's "play it over and over until you can beat it" model. When I think of the Sega Genesis, I think of Sonic, sports games, and Disney. I think most Nintendo kids feel the same way. But that little black box has some phenomenal games in it's library that I feel have been passed over undeservedly. This game is one of them. I had a fucking...blast...playing through this game on my Switch, and I'm pretty excited to talk about it on this week's podcast. If you've never played it, give this episode a listen. We may just convince you. I say "we", because as always I'm joined by a fellow nerd. This week, my buddy Miklos returns to the show. You may remember him from our "Sega vs Nintendo" and "Shining Force" episodes. Mik was a die-hard Sega kid, and I owe him a great deal for helping to open my eyes and show me that the Genesis had more games than just crappy over-rated platforms about a little blue rat. (I kid, I kid...mostly). Enjoy the podcast!
On episode #056 two Referral Ninja Masters joined me to talk about their journey from beginner to master. Being two and three years into their journey, they shared a great perspective of their journey. But what is the first year link on the journey to become a Referral Ninja Master? In this episode, I welcome David Ferguson and Mark McIntosh to share what their first few months has been like as they move from Referral Ninja Beginner to Referral Ninja Master. David has been following the Growth By Referrals program for 6 months and Mark for 3 months. They have a great perspective to share. All resources mentioned in this article, including links to learn more about David Ferguson and Mark McIntosh can be found on the show notes page at www.staceybrownrandall.com/58.

Pasate!!
This episode we visit a past Sega franchise that has been relatively quiet of late, the Shinobi series and master ninja Joe Musashi in what may be the best game in the series -- Shinobi 3 for the Genesis. How does this one stack up to other 16-bit era platformers, and the rest of the series in general? Listen to see! We also share our thoughts on several topics such as the Final Fantasy series, new retro consoles, sports titles, and other non-Shinobi topics when we answer several listener questions at the end of the show! Lion’s Mane has long been used by Buddhist monks for better focus during meditation for years. I know you're going to say you don't want to drink coffee that tastes like mushrooms, but it doesn't. Four Sigmatic: Is gut friendly and great for those who get an upset stomach from regular coffee. Gets you cranked up for your day, but not jittery and anxiety ridden because it contains less than half the caffeine of regular coffee. Comes in handy packets that you just mix with hot or cold water. Takes just a second to prepare. Go to http://www.foursigmatic.com/jay and use the code JAY to get 15% discount.

Soness Stevens remembers growing up with a childhood dream of being a ninja. She takes us along, with her amazing story-telling ability, from her younger years moving frequently in the US to her now home in Japan. She shares personal stories of connection with her brother Chris, her “Ninja Master.” His words of “Ninjas Never Give Up,” seemed to be the driving force that never allowed her to quit through her tough childhood…and perhaps even beyond. She offers a story of being hurt and wanting to confide in her Barbie, who felt completely unrelated-able, with her unfading smile. Soness’ spiritual path began to be evident to her following an interview for a paper products company in Florida, in her early 20’s. She saw herself walking into an industry that would lock her in a direction that did not feel progressive. After turning down a lucrative job offer, she decided to get her MBA at Harvard. For her to be able to specialize in what she was pursuing, she needed to be fluent in Japanese. This required a year’s studies in Japan. While in Japan, she became Japan’s first Feng Shui consultant, as well as the English voice of Hello Kitty. Following her realization that she needed more than a year to truly learn Japanese and the Japanese culture, Soness decided to make Japan her “always” home. She has lived there now for 20 years. Since then, Soness has built a life teaching connection and compassion through public speaking. She has a nationally broadcast television show, as well as a career as a university professor. She walks both students and coaching clients through their personal “Speaking Journeys” and teaches them how to create TED/TEDx worthy speeches. She helps them to define core thesis’ and to find value to offer to others. Soness is also a TEDx speaker and speaker coach for other speakers. As a global communicator has done multiple TEDx speeches herself. She incorporates connection and compassion to all of her lessons teaching others to recognize the “oneness” and similarities we all share. Additionally, she describes the Japanese method of “reading the air” to integrate the intuitive nature that once was so commonplace in the Japanese culture. You can see one of her talks here. She also took time to share about her latest online teaching program, “How to Create a TED Worthy Application,” helping others to get their messages out to the world. More than anything though, Soness describes her process of “teaching others to be at home with themselves.” Her heart is huge and her commitment to the success of others is to be appreciated and valued. Take a moment to listen. You will be inspired and your heart will be warmed from her truly amazing journey to where she is now.
