While this softens the blow of the 360 marketplace's closure there are still a massive amount of games being left behind. Physical copies of these games will and in some cases already have seen an increase in value. Digital only games like Rush ‘N Attack Expatriot, Rez HD, Vigilante 8 Arcade, and all of the Arcade Kinect games will be largely left to time, piracy notwithstanding. Here's hoping that the recently rumored renewed focus on backwards compatibility from Microsoft comes to fruition.     - PS3 -While Sony had previously announced in 2021 that it was shutting down its PS3 digital storefront, the company reversed its decision after a backlash from fans. Both the PS3 servers and store remain in operation in 2024.   Thoughts -   Community Couch     JosiahP. — 04/22/2024 10:21 AM Super Mario Maker for the Wii u hit me hard- do you think that revival services like RiiConnect24 or PriiTendo are a good option for revival projects? Eric Plunk — 04/22/2024 10:40 AM I wish I had the foresight to download the Konami Rebirth series of games from WiiWare before the Wii Shop closed down. Every company should make a better effort to preserve and make these games available on future hardware.   adam — 04/22/2024 2:21 PM don't have a story to tell, but instead a meme to share! but it's wild to me that games like the crew can get delisted.   Presto — 04/22/2024 2:48 PM What's your favorite WiiWare game?   Mike Writes — 04/22/2024 4:09 PM Xbox 360 store is going offline in June. We're gathered here today to mourn & celebrate the life of a video game console, Nintendo's last handheld-only device, the small but mighty Nintendo 3DS.As of March 27th, 2023, the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS and Wii U will be officially shut down, meaning 866 Wii U games and 1547 3DS games will no longer be available to purchase. We've already dedicated an episode in the past to the Nintendo Wii U, so today we're taking a look back at our memories of the 3DS: our favorite games to grace the device, StreetPass & other quirky apps, its hit-&-miss use of its signature stereoscopic 3D gimmick, and some last-minute purchases we've recently downloaded & played in the eShop's twilight hours. Plus we wax poetic a bit about the death of digital media, the importance of video game preservation, and the ethics of p*racy & emulation (not that we know what tf we're talking about! we're just two gaymers with a podcast and opinions!) If you're listening to this before 3/27/23, we hope this episode provides a couple of last-minute game recommendations to download! Otherwise... we don't know what to tell ya, but thanks for listening anyways! Good luck finding a physical copy of some of these games on eBay I guess?  RIP to the 3DS. You had a good at it, thanks for your input

It's Question Bucket Time! As always, we start out by wrapping up our series discussion, including some discussion of The 08th MS Team's reference to the Vietnam War and whether we think there's anything even there or if US viewers just jump to Vietnam because it is our jungle war but not necessarily Japan's jungle war, why we chose The 08th MS Team despite knowing a lot of people are down on it, the value of talking about things you have mixed feelings about and debating with someone else about different reads, more homie kissing, what kind of albums each member of the 08th MS Team would press. Also, Niamh manages to talk about Icelandic sagas for a bit because fae is extremely that bitch. We then talk about Connor's non-anime thing, The Commercial Album by the Residents. We talk a bit about trying to engage with music even when it doesn't come to you quickly, the history of the Residents as a band and art collective, the racist ethnography of Nanook of the North, the tension between conceptual foundation for an album and the actual experiential quality of listening to an album, Niamh being a bit of an asshole, and the possible influence that the Residents might have had on music that came after. After that, we discuss Niamh's non-anime thing, Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale, but then kinda just be bummers about how neither of us can identify with this sweet and idyllic portrayal of childhood, but also the ways this game still rings true to some of our experiences with media and card games as kids. We also talk about the differences between sugar-coated, gritty, and bittersweet. We also quickly answer a few questions about tokusatsu (we hate it), magical realism (we love it), and what recent anime we would send through a wormhole to the ‘90s to change anime discourse forever. Set in the 1970s, Attack of the Friday Monsters: A Tokyo Tale is a game about the childhood of a young Japanese boy. Playing off a nostalgia that probably most westerners never lived through (1970s, Japan, the giant monster craze) the game some how grabs the player, unlike king kong scaring the hell our woman, the peaceful game is very reminiscent of Ghibli films and the like. Partly why is because the video game is developed by Level 5, The developers of Ni No Kuni a game co-developed with the agreement of Toshio Suzuki (the preseident of Ghibli Studios). Ni No Kuni included the musical accompaniment, cut scene animation and more from the Ghibli Studio.Blog Post:http://musicsthehangup.com/blog/s01e16-attack-of-the-friday-monsters-a-pure-nostalgic-video-soundtrack/Join Us on Social Media:Twitter - https://twitter.com/MusicsTheHangUpInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/musicsthehangup/Discord - https://discord.gg/34RcqkNSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/musicsthehangup)

Em stood by the grave, and looked upon the headstone. Time had withered the slate, there was no name left to mark a life long since lived. And all the people seemed to pass on by, catching the bus, going to work, eating chips and going to bed. He didn’t understand how they could walk here without hearing the warning, those deafening screams of the forgotten, keeping him awake night after night after night. One day he would be screaming too.“No,” they whispered to themself, turning away. He couldn’t change his fate, but he could tear down heaven and hell to punish those who chose it. Who were Gods to sign his death sentence, to force upon him an existence never requested, and all too soon, steal it away? No longer could this cycle continue. The Gods would fall to their hand, and for one brilliant, shining moment, as the pain of existence blinked away, there would be silence. You can get our podcast on iTunes, on Stitcher, or you can download it directly by clicking here. This Month’s RPG Explorer’s Club: Final Fantasy VIIINext Month’s Game Club: Attack of the Friday Monsters!!Games Discussed: Final Fantasy VIII, Pokemon Shuffle, Star Wars, Super Mario BrosMusic This EpisodeBlown Away by Kevin MacLeodAmi by Nobuo UematsuShuffle & Boogie by Nobuo UematsuFragments of Memories by Nobuo UematsuMan With A Machine Gun by Nobuo Uematsu

Already proven wrong about Layton x Wright, what else will be awesome in 2013? Despite the games only coming out AFTER recording, NFR has managed another full round of discussion. This time in New Business, Donald takes an appetizer in Attack of the Friday Monsters before digging into the full meal deal of RPGs in Shin Megami Tensei IV. Austen rolled through Borderlands 2 quickly enough that he took a +1 to DLC with  Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep, while Stephen inflicts whiplash on his co-hosts with Cut the Rope on the Leap Motion and a PC-bundled Shark Dash and the incredibly hardcore Anno 2070. After a fabulous Now Posted segment, Whatcha Watchin' starts with a round of everything made up and irrelevant points as Donald celebrates the return of Whose Line Is It Anyway?. Austen brings some sci-fi goodness with a full recap of Warehouse 13 before a rash of superheroism with Justice League's "Flashpoint Paradox". Stephen keeps the superheroing alive with Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Superman Apocalypse and Planet Hulk, with a side of prison comedy with Netflix's original Orange Is The New Black and sci-fi (Generator Rex). We asked - repeatedly - and you came through with a Feature Discussion centered around a preview of the fall, including our Games We're Most Excited For - and some of the answers are already outdated, while others will probably stun you. The Mushrooms put a bow on things with appreciation of well-used system features and... fruit, but also contains a fierce rebuke of recent gaming news. This podcast was edited by Donald Theriault, Austen Parkin and Stephen Shook. The theme of this week's Besties is giant monsters. The gang discusses kaiju, space ants and malevolent monolithic mega corps from the not-so-distant future. Like the summer's big films, a number of recent game releases are sci-fi allegories about the way we live now. Or in the case of Attack of the Friday Monsters, the way we lived way back when. We also talk about the week's big news: Microsoft's indie marketplace strategy. But the monsters are the thrust of the episode. I should probably mention there's another large monster that makes an appearance. It's possible you've met him before. He's from New York and has a long neck. I'll let him introduce himself. 3:30 - Best latest strategy update from Microsoft (Xbox One indie self-publishing) 15:00 - Best game you can't buy in the US (Earth Defense Force 4) 22:15 - Halftime! 28:20 - Best game you can buy in the US, unexpectedly (Attack of the Friday Monsters) 37:05 - Best mechanic with the worst implementation (Remember Me) 45:15 - The winner is ...
